Well although I’ve got a whippet and not a dachshund, I got a sausage dog mug and a lovely Daschshund Pollock” tea towel! Two useful Christmas gifts were 1. A stylish waste bin for my sewing bin and 2. A beautiful natural bristle with wood, hand held brush that sits it it’s own little dustpan.The brush has a magnet to keep it attached to the pan and I use it to sweep up the mess from my overlocker into my lovely bin. Made my Christmas 😂..easily pleased!
Happy New Year from New Zealand. My sewing machine and overlocker both died before Christmas. A bother as was making gifts & it is Summer the country closes down for several weeks. Will see if repair man is back on deck this week. Some new machines here are the price of a not so small car.
No weird sewing themed gifts this year but there have been some corkers in the past - a decorative bedazzled dressmakers mannequin - full size - is probably up there at the top!
Happy new year Kate, and the the Foldline team! don't forget to show us that pin cushion. I received the Prym Creative Tool. And that's an awesome choice. A hiccup, however, is that Prym isn't really sold here in the states so it's difficult to get any of the tool bits and fasteners that one uses with that tool, or with the Vario pliers. Perhaps I should tell the gift giver that there is an implied ticket to Europe that is part of the gift!
HNY Kate and all at the fold line! I didn’t get any sewing presents, but I bought some Derwent Inktense pencils with Xmas money to colour in some sewing projects. Love the blouse and bag.

Also bought Selvedge as the textiles looked irresistibly sumptuous. Have been off sewing for a bit due to festivities and a bug but can feel my sewjo returning!

Welcome back! My husband bought me a lovely sashiko sewing kit for Christmas. For my birthday 10 days afterwards he bought me a scarf knitting kit which was a lovely thought but it’s a really fine yarn, the scarf is huge and I barely knit because I have issues with my hands. It’ll take me forever! I might pay my friend to make it 😂 The hint with a link to my Foldline wishlist obviously wasn’t a big enough hint!

In the UK, Saga is a company for older people - they do holidays, insurance etc. 'Silver' is also used to describe people over a certain age! When I heard the name I did actually think that the patterns would be for that age group, too - my bad! But the dress Kate showed us is beautiful so I'll be adding Silversaga to my list of designers to keep an eye on 😊
Happy New Year to Kate and The Fold Line! Loved that simple top with all the variations. Any tips for a good youtube tutorial for sewing the necks on jersey tops like this? I've only been sewing for a couple of years and I always seem to stretch the necks out so they don't sit as nicely as they should. I have a family member who has been getting me fabric for presents and usually it's fabulous - this time the print is great but it's definitely upholstery fabric...so I'm not sure whether to make cushions out of it or to make some sort of shift dress and wander about the world looking like a sofa...
I say, don't try to wear upholstery fabric! Bags? Cushions? Stash? As for knit necklines....take a look at Lauren's videos on making and applying bias binding. That's Lauren of Gurthrie & Ghani. And my main suggestion to make sure your binding is short enough -- you do need to be stretching is slightly for it to end up flat. I always quarter my bindings and quarter my neckholes. And then, you know, I mess them up anyway!
