This brings me to tears every time I hear it. Reminds me of my father. He was my guitar hero my entire life before I lost him. He was responsible for my music career, starting in 1986. This was his most favorite instrumental song ever. It was the song he asked me to play the night he passed away. I'll never get over how beautiful this piece of music is. ❤️
This song makes me cry. It hurts the soul thinking about my father that I lost last year to this awful COVID. He died alone in the hospital and it has scarred me for life. @@woodywoodlstein9519 the learning process is sacred. What a musical genius and yet shows an approachable method. Learning what he does. Easy no. Hard work of both structure of music and creative genius again. Can you do better. I cant
I was at Berklee in 1979. Steve was there and played like this then. He was 18 years old. I told him then that he would be great. He and bassist Victor Bailey were in the same band. Two super musicians. Glad to have that experience. We where all just teenagers.
Sometimes I'm inspired as a guitarist. This, as usual, is amazing. Steve never disappoints. Sometimes, especially when I go to the comments section, as a guitarist, I'm very ashamed. Some of the comments are deplorable. This guy plays as good as a guitar can physically be played.
He goes beyond just being a guitarist though. He is also a fantastic performer and perfectly understands how to build tension and release according to the audience. Few performers (let alone guitarists) are able to truly capture audiences not just impress them with skill.
Adolph Oliver Bush I play, Yngwie turned me onto guitars and then I searched others. Hence my name I like.to tell people he did more with just one song " For The Love Of God" than some guitarists entire discography! FACT
Like Joe Satriani, Steve is living, breathing, walking music. I can't be mad at him for all the effects he uses because without all of it, it would still be mind blowing.
What a guitar player this guy is!! Why haven't I known more about him?! He I a phenomenal player!! He never drank did drugs or mess around with women, he's just a great guy!! I really misses long hair though.. 🎶🎸🎵
Little known fact, this was shot at a much more fluid frame rate. But the raw power and talent of Vai and his group was so immense that the cameras began melting and lost a lot of the frames.
This man is a freaking MASTERPIECE guitar player that captivates any audience into his personal journey with any song he is playing in my opinion. ..Just listen to this song and that should be all you need to know about this man and his music.... thank you Steve Vai for your incredible gift of music 🎵🎶❤️
Not generally a fan of the "shred merchants" - something Vai can do when he chooses of course - but Vai pushes the limits of possibility with the electric guitar in terms of sound and virtuosity and this performance is simple beautiful and a joy to watch and hear. You can also see the joy in his face and body as he performs. Exceptional amongst guitarists.
@@brycecooper9073yeah it’s just so much talent for sure, reminds me to Gary Moore same felling and talent just giving everything on stage.. they’re souls and life.
No words can explain the feelings I`we got every time I hear this song. Thank you, Steve, for all the emotions that surround me while listening to your melodies
"Whispering A Prayer" is an amazing spiritual experience every time I listen to it. Thank you Steve Vai for pouring out ur heart. You are a true Virtuoso who has impacted my life. Forever grateful!🙏
It's fitting that the name of this song is "Whispering A Prayer" because the sound truly is an utterance to God which cannot be inspired by anyone besides Him. Thank you Steve for expressing your heart in this most beautiful and passionate way. And may God hear your lovely whisper.
As a musician, to have a song or an idea in mind and have it come out "precisely" as you envisioned is phenomenal, at least. But to play said song live with an audience, and to convey that same idea to everyone that hears it, is otherworldly. At least, if you are Steve Vai and your song is "Whispering a Prayer," then it is business as usual. And that is what makes him and his music so freakin' special, to me..
My inspiration. Once I heard him make the guitar sound like another instrument or language it changed my life. True music, I can escape and forget about everything!
The expression and feeling in his performance is just amazing. Steve Vai has amazing technique, but above all he seems to have an incredible respect and understanding of melody. This really hit me emotionally.
What a good feeling this song brings! He managed to bring out the many wonderful passages of my life !! Steve is incredible! Great master in his art...
Steve Vai uses the sustainer beautifully on this song, it's so nice to see him play with emotion and feeling. Beautiful work, and he uses his effects (Echo, natural feedback from the amplifiers) to the fullest extent on this performance.
Its incredible to hear what Steve Vai is able to get out from his JEM without overwhelmed sound clusters. A gentle synthesizer and some very few drum notes ... a simple melody and a deep knowledge about his instrument and technique efforts - no more is necessary to create great music. No speed races no endless shredding .....
I think when Steve finally lays his head to rest , FLO and EVO will be buried with him. Those two guitars are about as symbolic to his playing and to himself than any instrument that any musician has played with. When he is using either of those two , its two completely different feelings and he conveys that through them both so easily. FLO is clearly his melodic and hit you in the feels guitar , and EVO is his pick me up and shredding guitar. A master of the sound he creates with both. We listen to him , he listens to them , and it shows.
I love Steve. I have since I heard Passion & Warfare in my early teens around 1990 ... I have that guitar (Jem7vwh) it's so easy to play and sounds amazing. There's a lot of people (gen z mainly) who shit on him claiming their guy ia better and tbat steve has been far surpassed ... I'm an objective person and that is categoriacally untrue ...
@@sci_ent_ificsui_neg9236 well , i have always been the person that would say , what does better mean? Are there people that play notes faster? cleaner? Know scales better? Maybe its better at different genres of music? I mean wtf does better actually mean? I can tell you this , Steve Vai , is a virtuoso , which is as good as it gets for anyone to be classified as that. One of my personal factors that I think is true of only a few guitarist. When a song is heard , without reading who the guitarist is , can you TELL who it is. I can honestly tell you , there is a few that are so distinct , that its almost as solid as granite stone. I can literally hear any song they are playing in , and within seconds , tell you who it is playing. That to me is more defining of what is better than anything else. Here are those guitarist on a very short list , Steve Vai , Joe Satriani , Hendrix , SRV , Eddie , Malmsteen and Rhodes.
@@Obxhatman Totally agree. If I HAD to pick one guitarist still technically in front I'd say Alan Holdsworth, but that's with a gun to my head. However I love Vai the most because YES he's a genius as a technician and innovator but most of all because his melodies can bring me to tears with the emotion. Without Vai I wouldn't play.
he's blessed with his music, and we are blessed with him! after listening to any of his solo, i feel like leaving everything else and to pick up my guitar, find my way, to find peace, joy and give meaning to life!
A true master of his craft. Undeniable talent just drips from this man's guitar. Rock on Steve. Fucking kill it. Blow my brains all over the floor man!!

One of my most fond memories was being on stage with about 350 people right up front hanging on every note. Covering sober with everything I had. One of the most existential and surreal experiences I have ever had. No drug even comes close. This is the essence of performing arts.
Bravo!!!👏👏👏What a maestro, Steve Vai is! Glorious composition here! Such incredible passion in his music 🎵🎶, & you can see it exuding from his intensely beautiful pores & soul! This, just ripped my heart right out, & sent it soaring to the heavens above! Wow! Thank you, Steve!🌹💜🌍
Spot on man.... Seriously this video put me in such a happy place. Steve vai seriously dedicated his life to his craft.... Like insanely devoted.... If you actually watch what he does and how he feels the song... That's straight emotion
This is the difference between mindless shredding and meaningful playing. Yes, there are many notes, but every singe one of them has dramatic purpose and emotion. In my opinion, not a single "shredder" even comes close to delivering the kind of emotion Vai does.
La hace cantar la hace sentir a su GUITARRA. Es como si fueran uno mismo. Es uno solo. Es el sonido. ESPLENDOROSO . DEL CANTO DE LAS CUERDAS. ACARICIADAS POR LOS DEDOS . ELLA CANTA HACE LO QUE LE DICE. Y ELLA ESPLÉNDIDAMENTE TOCA MÚSICA HERMOSA.

thats the subjective part and opinions will vary, his knowledge, skill, and desire to share with oyher musicians is not. These were the thongs i was commenting on. btw, i am usually entertained by his creativity and melodies.

Steve Via invests so much emotion on every single note he plays and we receive the return on his investment. He is so far beyond great it can’t be described, only felt.
Saw him play this live during his passion and warfare 25th anniversary tour and it was transcendent. It was absolutely perfect and there were many people with tears in their eyes for good reason.
Amazing talent and skill. Inspirational the music is so incredibly moving and yet its there instilling a special note or unique sound resonating it's own octave. He is extremely clever in creating the story and tells it so well with the original music from a magical almost electric guitar. Awesome style. Thank you is not enough. STEVE VAI
So true. As I apply some of Steve Vai techniques in my guitar playing. Humble beginnings for me in the area of playing guitar at professional level, only a dream I guess until now. Always prompted never thought it would be a life calling. For now half time training technique half time playing freestyle by ear. I don't have a demo but will get one done professionally by my skills and ability as soon as I am happy with it and professional standard. My Dj experience seeks high standards. Thank you ever so much xxxxxxxxx
Its mysterious feel, build up and relatively quiter moments is a good representation of what happens in that state of mind and being. Its artistical genius in the way presented. Represents the motions involved in "Whispering A Prayer. The intensity and subtlety is a great paradox. Love it.
My inspiration to my travel mood board. All your music and fashion go hand in hand. Art for art sake, personal yet magnificent. Hopefully I will do you justice in my work carrier. Music and fashion. Fantastic
I love this song and also for the love of god. Steve Vai,Marty freidman, john petrucci they created really fantastic melody line in their tracks i love those. And one more guy synster gate.
A guitarist friend of mine from years back said to me once that he had extraordinary respect for Steve Vai's ability to play guitar. (He didn't have much to say about anyone else.) He went to one of Steve Vai's guitar clinics and was the first to arrive. When he walked in to the room Steve was sitting in a chair with one leg up on a desk playing his guitar when he stopped and greeted him by speaking with his guitar, saying "How are you?" "Thanks for coming, take a seat." He said that he was really impressed by that because it meant that Vai really knew his shit when it came to playing because what he did wasn't musical in nature and it would take an extraordinary talent to even figure out how to make a few words sound right but Via went on to have a conversation using his guitar to talk with like it was as easy as using his own voice. I always thought was interesting.

He’s used “less effects “. When he taught himself to play.

this man puts every fiber of his being into every single one of his notes, something extremely rare, but extremely brilliant.
I never know that electric guitar could play such a beautiful music until I watch this video.
Few performers (let alone guitarists) are able to truly capture audiences not just impress them with skill.
perfect comment
Adolph Oliver Bush I play, Yngwie turned me onto guitars and then I searched others. Hence my name
I like.to tell people he did more with just one song " For The Love Of God" than some guitarists entire discography! FACT
Indeed!
10K people gave this thumbs up, he's getting the respect!
I saw Steve Vai at a G3 concert and when he played this it brought tears to my eyes.
Such a special masterpiece.
RESPECT ✊🏼
He brought tears to his own eyes! Look at his face at 2:10, he is crying...if that isn't connecting, what is???

Guitar has amazing sounds and steve is the best🇬🇪🇺🇸
Like Joe Satriani, Steve is living, breathing, walking music. I can't be mad at him for all the effects he uses because without all of it, it would still be mind blowing.
Effects are great. Add dimension and accentuate the music. That's all
Listing to Steve Vai taking tone, harmonics, feedback... ect.... to a whole new level. How can one define "soft notes"?
I was completely sold on this song with the first 4 notes.
.my Dogs cry along with Steve's guitar... The King of it all❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a guitar player this guy is!! Why haven't I known more about him?! He I a phenomenal player!! He never drank did drugs or mess around with women, he's just a great guy!! I really misses long hair though.. 🎶🎸🎵
Finding new ways, new sounds, after all these years. There are guitar gods, then there's Steve Vai.
Steve Vai and his guitar ..... a never ending Love Story and you can hear it in every moment ! I love his playing !!!
A man that loves what he does and will

@@brycecooper9073yeah it’s just so much talent for sure, reminds me to Gary Moore same felling and talent just giving everything on stage.. they’re souls and life.
This is really emotional. Steve's fingers are the extension of his soul. He is playing with his soul.
The guitar "singing" so beautiful
No words can explain the feelings I`we got every time I hear this song. Thank you, Steve, for all the emotions that surround me while listening to your melodies
"Whispering A Prayer" is an amazing spiritual experience every time I listen to it. Thank you Steve Vai for pouring out ur heart. You are a true Virtuoso who has impacted my life. Forever grateful!🙏
Incredible. It sounds like a hybrid between a guitar and an organ. Never heard anyone play a guitar that way. Such awesome control.
Listen to Jeff Beck sometime..Steve is awesome..but Jeff was a vocalist on the guitar.
It's fitting that the name of this song is "Whispering A Prayer" because the sound truly is an utterance to God which cannot be inspired by anyone besides Him. Thank you Steve for expressing your heart in this most beautiful and passionate way. And may God hear your lovely whisper.
I saw him live at Dallas city limits front row and it was magic. This was no different. Same feeling every time.

Couldn't have articulated it better.
Doamneee, cum sunăăă , te transpune intr-o altă eră ...Bestial !!!!!

A true master of his craft. Undeniable talent just drips from this man's guitar. Rock on Steve. Fucking kill it. Blow my brains all over the floor man!!
This is by far my favorite song he’s ever composed. Absolutely genius.
"Whispering a Prayer" Live at Astoria 2001 still the best ♥️
His playing transforms melody into prayer. Amazing and skilfull fingers.

I was there at the Astoria filming.. faaak my ass was crying 🤯🤪🍻🍻
That's no surprise because Vai overdubs his recordings. Live he is worse..
Experience a live show in a small club its not just playing the guitar...there's real energy required to bare your soul on stage and you can actually feel it in a live situation...vids are cool but not even close to the real thing....
"Peace and love and good happiness stuff"

One of my most fond memories was being on stage with about 350 people right up front hanging on every note. Covering sober with everything I had. One of the most existential and surreal experiences I have ever had. No drug even comes close. This is the essence of performing arts.
Sober, by who?

Bravo!!!👏👏👏What a maestro, Steve Vai is! Glorious composition here! Such incredible passion in his music 🎵🎶, & you can see it exuding from his intensely beautiful pores & soul! This, just ripped my heart right out, & sent it soaring to the heavens above! Wow! Thank you, Steve!🌹💜🌍
what a beautiful melody. steve and joe are truly magnificent and you cant help but your soul melt away when they let their guitars sing
He uses a beautiful melody as a theme and puts whales' singing into this ...music for a fairy-tale.
Spot on man.... Seriously this video put me in such a happy place. Steve vai seriously dedicated his life to his craft.... Like insanely devoted.... If you actually watch what he does and how he feels the song... That's straight emotion
Now i just see whales singing lol
Eye contact with fan up front at 2:40 has me dying lmfao! Kind to dead serious
This is the difference between mindless shredding and meaningful playing. Yes, there are many notes, but every singe one of them has dramatic purpose and emotion. In my opinion, not a single "shredder" even comes close to delivering the kind of emotion Vai does.

thats the subjective part and opinions will vary, his knowledge, skill, and desire to share with oyher musicians is not. These were the thongs i was commenting on. btw, i am usually entertained by his creativity and melodies.

I believe Steve Vai plays from the heart awesome player
WAAAAAYYY beyond magnificent, almost got mud in the valley it was so awesome !!
So beautiful...
Fantastic

His voice is his guitar and vibe that comes out is so intense and beautiful
Best sensational guitar player ever..
