My dad used to do this stuff with me. He's passed away now and I'm 55 but I'll never forget even if I live to be 100. They were the best times. I knew it then and I know it now. I'd give the whole of the rest of my life for one day camping with my dad.
Hello Simon and Tom such a wonderful video in today's world it's great teaching our kids life skills to survive it melts my heart you are such a beautiful man/ father such a blessing from Australia 🤠🇦🇺
@royflint3551 - I used to go fishing with my dad, but only the boys (my brothers) were taken on wild camping trips and taught to hunt - not sure why. Could be that I was a teenager by then!!
Great video Simon, really enjoyed seeing some proper Father and Son bonding in this crazy world. And lucky Tom, he will cherish these memories for the rest of his life. Fabulous.
MAKING MEMORIES THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME.TOM WILL GROW UP AND PROBERBLY TAKE HIS KIDS CAMPING. I HAVE FOND AND LASTING MEMORIES OF MY FATHER TAKING ME. THANKS DAD AND RIP
So wonderful to see a father spending quality time with his son! Tom seems so polite and cheerful, and is quite a handsome young man. I am sure you are so proud of him! Your meal looked delicious, and I really liked the bench you made. Thanks for sharing another wonderful video with all of us! God bless you and your family! :)
+Linnee Kay -Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. He's a good lad, and the weekend was great fun thanks to him sharing it with me. Tom made me bring the bench home so he can have it in the garden!! (I think it was his way of returning the favour for the Dutch Oven!! Hehehe!) Take care, and all the best, Simon (and Tom).
Sorry to sound like a girl ;) but I loved this video Simon! What a great memories for Tom he will carry the rest of his life. Wished you had shown the finished spoon. Really enjoy your stuff.
My team did this to me on Duke of Edinburgh award. We packed up camp and I assumed all the cooking equipment had been divided amongst the group as we previously did on the previous night. We finished up that evening and I realised I had pretty much 90% of the cooking gear stuffed deep in my bag. If its any consolation to Tom, he's a stronger man than he was yesterday! Cheers!
Hey Simon, I don't know if you will see this comment or not, because of this being an older video, but if you do, you're an awesome father!!! All the best to you, Tom and the rest of your family!!!
An excellent video Simon. A fine lad you have there! My boys also enjoyed the video and this will hopefully encourage them to come with me more often. He may forgive you one day for the Dutch Oven in his bag, but he'll never forget it. All the best, Al
+Knucker - Cheers Al! He's certainly not forgiven me yet! I think he'll be milking it for some time! Lol. Glad you and your boys enjoyed it. Atb, Simon (and Tom).

@@simonablokeinthewoods 🤣🤣 As a dad myself that was something that will stay with me forever haha. Seriously glad I found your channel. Amazing content keep on keeping on brother!
I cried and got angry at this video... I never had a good relationship with my father and this made me seriously jealous I cant ever have kids but it’s nice to see how a real father son relationship looks like
Sir I realize that this video has been out for a few years. It is the most absolute favorite video that I've seen from yours so far! Outstanding many blessings

Watching this older video, and it was so lovely to watch! What a lovely time to have woth your son....and what a fab meal you cooked! Love that you whitled a spoon as Toms spoon broke....just so relaxing to watch.....now who carried the dutch oven back to the car??😁. Ha ha! Thanks Simon for this lovely video, which must seem a lifetime ago to you and Tom now😊.
Wow! Just fantastic looking roast and food for dinner. You are making me hungry Simon! I think it is so cool you go camping, hiking, and cooking with your son Tom. Congratulations!...Bart
Simon, My beautiful bride sniffled and was tearing up as she watched this video I had shared with her. We have built 72-hour survival bags for our kids to keep at school. The DepEd (Department of Education) in the Philippines actually requests parents to supply each student with a very basic bag. We do training sessions for practice as a family. Doing a trip like this just for the fun will be a new experience for the three great kids my wife brought to our marriage. The reason for her tears? She is overjoyed that we will soon be enjoying similar adventures to what you have shared. Thank you for the video, it was a great family moment.
Thank you Jack! I’m truly thrilled that the video has been a inspiration! I hope you all have a lovely adventure! The emergency bags sound like a really good idea and essential I guess I a part of the world where earthquakes, flooding and tsunamis are a real threat. Cheers, Simon
@@simonablokeinthewoods Yes Simon, the DepEd here in the Phils have taken the potential threat of natural disasters much more seriously in recent years. I for one, am happy they did so. The request from the schools is too basic but is a beginning point. They asked students to have a bag "with a change of clothes, some basic toiletries and a canned good." We went far beyond that with fully stocked 72 hour kits. We train regularly with the same gear we packed in the kids EDCs. Even a power outage can turn into a home adventure when the gang breaks out their gear and practice their skills. Thank you for your reply.

Hey..simon... love your videos....my name is ray..I love in the u.s.a...the state of Washington...in a wooded area...camping is still easy to do here...lots places to go...but I always find it interesting to see how other people camp and enjoy nature in other countries...hope to see more...thanx.
In answer to the firecraft; I always bring empty cans (soup cans etc) where they first have to make their own hobo stove (with woodgasburning - so 2 cans) and I let them fiddle about with either lighters, matches, ferro rods, magnesium sticks or friction fire - all according to their age . I do not hold their hands but observe, show an example and observe again. I figure that if they can handle the hobo stove, they can handle most fires. Afterwards we split the food and we all cook individually . When the cooking is done we just put all the meals in the middle and share. Love your channel. FYI I have 7 kids ranging between 23 and 9 years old. They all come to the outings. Mama stays at home (she does not like the camping out) and makes sure we have hot soup and real meals when we get back :-) . Thanks Alain
That sounds wonderful Alain! Great to give them the opportunity to work it out themselves with a little help and encouragement when needed. I love the communal sharing of the finished offerings too! Lovely!
Another great video Simon - thanks for sharing. Proper father & son time - can't beat it - lifelong memories for you both 👌 Hoping to get my boy Charlie out with me in the next couple of weeks if I can get him off of his PlayStation that is 🥴😂
there's nothing more precious in life than spending time with your children. My wife gives me a had time so it's nice to escape with are children or on my own.
Simon outdoors - Totally agree Simon, it was a nice weekend. It's not often my kids want to come out and rough it a bit as they once did! Modern life!!!! Atb mate, Simon.
Ha ha the next video i watch, and there you are building the bench. Your lavvu looks different to ones i have seen reviewed, has that one got a built in ground sheet. Loved this video, the quality time with you and your son, This is what i am hoping for with me and my daughter.
Cheers Chris, yes, it was a lovely overnighter - quality time without the distractions of the x-box!! The lavvu started life as a bog standard polish poncho tent/lavvu. I modified it by sewing on side walls, a floor, zips, vents etc. I have a two part video on it - quite an old one! Atb, Simon.
Made a spoon...empathy, kindness and a Father's love, well done Simon.

I wish that every child had this level of quality parenting. Tom will go a long way in life because of this grounding.
It was beautiful to see your son putting his arm on your shoulder, that’s the most beautiful part in the video
I saw what you did there, you gave your son the big plate 😎...#a real Dad

FYI I have 7 kids ranging between 23 and 9 years old. They all come to the outings. Mama stays at home (she does not like the camping out) and makes sure we have hot soup and real meals when we get back :-) .
Thanks
Alain
That sounds wonderful Alain! Great to give them the opportunity to work it out themselves with a little help and encouragement when needed. I love the communal sharing of the finished offerings too! Lovely!
Another great video Simon - thanks for sharing. Proper father & son time - can't beat it - lifelong memories for you both 👌
Hoping to get my boy Charlie out with me in the next couple of weeks if I can get him off of his PlayStation that is 🥴😂
This video suggestion just popped up so I watched it.
Excellent bond between you two. I wanted to see when you gave him the spoon.
there's nothing more precious in life than spending time with your children.
Atb, Simon.
very handy man then. Good to see as now i know me and my daughter would fit in one. cheers
