    What a timely video 🙏🏻
I JUST received my arm lock putter from Sub-70, and used it for the first time on Monday.
    My initial impression is …
the jury is still out 🤷🏼‍♂️
It IS different, and I did NOT putt well on Monday. It really felt awkward to me. But to be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure how to use it. Of course, left hand low NEVER felt comfortable to me either.
I setup with it … FIRST, locking it into my left arm, and it seemed I was setting up with my shoulders OPEN (many putts missing LEFT). Then, I had trouble getting the length right; gripping lower on the grip, then standing more upright and gripping it toward the middle of the grip.
There just isn’t much out there (even on UA-cam) on HOW TO USE IT.
I think (next time I play), I will try setting up conventionally … first, aligning the clubface to my intended line; THEN, press the top of the grip to my left forearm (resulting in forward shaft lean). Worth a shot.
Bottom line: It’s going to take some time; my initial impressions were NOT good.

Drivers used to be made of wood. Then they added metal bottoms with screws. Then they became plastic with titanium faces. Then weights were added. And they can be adjusted for weight shift and loft. It appears much more change has been allowed with drivers. We now have irons that are hollow and filled with foam. Armlock putters just have a longer shaft.

Yes but none changes in the play clubs have fundamentally changed the way the club is held and swung. They are still held with the hands and the hands only.

I bought a Stroke lab double wide arm lock putter and I really enjoy it. I'm not holing every putt but, I am more consistent and confident. My speed and distance control is off but that will take practice and with the length of the putter I can stand a little more upright and that helps my lower back on long practice sessions. I would suggest to anyone who has putting problems give it a go, it's definitely helped my accuracy and I sank a thirty footer on the first day out! Love the channel! Cheers mate.

I received my Arm Lock putter a last week and have used it on two rounds so far, i bought the same model putter as the one that is reviewed on this video, the Cobra 41 inch Grandsport. My review of it is the roll of my putt is very smooth. However it is very awkward when i first used it , and feels that i could hole some putts that i can usually hole out on with my regular putter. But just like you said Ali, the distance control is something that i have to work on. It is very different, as I have to use my core and focus on how much to rock my shoulders. Even if this gets banned, I feel that as a training aid it is very good, as it works on making sure you are rocking the putter the correct way. I will keep trying the putter to try to be good with it. What I like is i don't have to worry if I am pushing or pulling my putter, instead only focus on the distance control and feel. Great Review btw. !! Cheers.

I bought an Odyssey two ball Ten recently, after considering it for quite a while. It's not a massive difference, but I have been more consistent with it. Like you said, it still comes down to green reading, pace, and line, it doesn't do those for you. I don't think they should be banned. I think the rules they have now are more than enough. I also agree about it being a good training aid. I've always been a 'handsy' putter, which somedays is really good, and other days not. This is helping me to get used to not using any wrist hinge at all. I don't play in comps, so it doesn't really affect me anyway, but I can make the same stroke with a regular putter if I have to, if I adjusted the loft for the forward shaft lean.

I've got the same putter. I've been making a lot more putts, and more starting on my intended line. Had a similar issue, hands to active. Armlock can only help golfers get more enjoyment from the game.

Loved the tip about bracing the putter grip against the trailing forearm instead of the lead forearm. I am already using the Arm Lock technique to putt left-handed with a left-handed putter for putts under 10 feet. I wanted to be able to do Arm Lock for right-handed putts as well using a right-handed putter, but for the putts equal to or greater than 10 feet. It didn't feel comfortable at all for me to brace against my lead forearm (i.e. left forearm) on right-handed putts, so I tried your (i.e. Matt's) trailing forearm bracing technique and it feels so much better to me for the the right-handed putting. Since I have not modified the loft on my putters, I feel like trailing forearm lock just might be adding loft naturally. What do you think? Probably a way to measure if that is the case. The reason I say this is because it is similar to a forward press of the hands with the Driver de-lofting the club face at address (vs.) holding the hands somewhat behind the Driver club face at address which should increase the loft. Right?

Ali, just for clarification. The regular Cobra putters with SIK is 4-3-2-1 but the arm lock versions are 7-6-5-4 due to the increased push angle created with arm lock.

I’ve come to the same conclusion about armlock. I definitely have trouble judging the length, because it does feel more mechanic somehow. But the consistancy can’t be argued, and I think with time, juding the length probably comes too.
I do not think it should be banned, because of the simple fact that no one (even at the professional level) is using it with such success it makes them unbeatable or even much better than someone with a regular length putter. Could it improve the results for some? Sure, but it’s not for everyone, and banning it for those who like it, and might have used it their whole life, definitely not an issue big enough to ban armlock.
I have to give it to Cobra though! Their putters from last summer are amazing! I have the same model you used here, but I would love a regular length Supernova as well. But I’m not that rich! 😅

LA Golf armlock putter is AMAZING.
    Game changer for me.
    Rock steady face angle.
MAKE sure to watch Brysons video on how to Lock out your left and right shoulders and wrists.
    He has the proper technique.
Ali, has improper shoulder, stance and has bent elbows,, argghhh.
I cant miss short putts anymore, and like Bryson says " I'll never go back" and
he is the tours Best putter.

I had that same putter.. lie angle wasn’t quite upright enough and I wasn’t a fan of the feel of the face.. I’m currently using an Evnroll midlock and I’m pretty happy with it but again the lie angle is a few degrees too flat. I just ordered a Sik flow C armlock with a 78 degree lie angle. FULLY COMMITTED to armlock!

I don't see it as cheating.
You still need to hit it correctly
Still need to judge the speed and read the green correct.
The only thing I see this doing is helping with stability.
So, yeah, keep it in the bag 👍👍

Fifteen or so years ago I had the yips something terrible, went to an Arm Lock putter for a year and a half and putted well with it. The around the two year mark went back to conventional just to see, well a dozen years later I'm still putting with my trusty Taylormade Modena 8 putter, now that being said there were a few times I felt yippy and went right back to the arm lock for a short time, then back to conventional, so. The arm lock kept me playing, otherwise I might have just had to give up the game, why did I not stick with the arm lock, I just made more putts with my regular putter with no yips, much better touch with longer putts for sure. So. Every case is different and I do not think the arm lock is cheating whatsoever. My opinion.

I bought my first arm lock putter 1 month ago because I've been struggling with distance control (too much wrists vs locked wrists vs some wrists). The arm lock is heavier so it definitely impacts distance control. I try for a straight back straight through swing - especially on short putts. It feels like I have to be very careful with how much I lean over the ball and my swing arc due to the longer handle and having the putter "tipped back" due to it touching my lead arm. I think the switch definitely takes some practice to adjust to. It's winter here now so too cold and snowy to golf. That's perfect for indoor putting practice time! I'll give it a real test on the course this Spring.

My personal opinion is as all clubs are handheld and swang by the hands below the chest so the putter shall be operated.
Meaning ban out all kinds of elongated putters, and require that only hands shall be used to 'operate' the putter not different from any other club.
E.g. it is hardly to judge if there is no hand contact/fixation with any other body part. I see so many broomstick users where it is impossible to judge if there is any space/light between upper hand and chestpart.
Putting is a skill and should be simple and equal for all players.

    • @ryandavidtrapasso

I see so many situations where it’s hard to tell if a player caused a ball to move or not. Why would we default to the judgment of the player in that case and not to the judgment of the player on if they’re anchoring with a broomstick or not? (I’m fine with your proposed ban tbf, I just don’t get the other point’s logic)

My question Ali is how do we know if it's the "arm lock" part of the putter or the putter head itself that is providing positive results? What would the Scotty be like with the arm lock shaft and how would the Cobra head work with a 35" shaft?

I don’t care if it gets banned. I play for exercise (walking) and fun. I use a different ball to putt with as well. Armlock has helped my putting a lot. I have had people watch me while putting conventionally and they say I break my wrist. Doesn’t feel like I am honestly but now that issue is gone and I am stroking it pure.

I thought the rule was about 2 points of contact with the putter, that obviously are the 2 hands. The arm lock putter plays its role only when the forearm is in contact with the grip, hence making a 3rd point of contact. Has this rule been modified? Thanks, cheers

Long putters, outlaw or legalize for all methods, period. Those using long putters are anchoring even if their top hand thumb is brushing their shirt! Which it is in most if not all cases. I'm not against long putters but feel USGA must legalize or outlaw completely. To many gray areas come into play with the current rule. Impossible to police as is.

I use left hand low (as a righty) and while it isn't quite the same as an arm-lock it does go a long way to providing the same outcome - little if any left wrist movement. I can even (tried it a few times) effectively anchor my std length putter to my left wrist using LHL. So I agree. ban one, ban them all. May as well limit putter length to 30". That would stop it all. LOL

Not by any definition or interpretation is it anchoring. Anchoring requires it be anchored to a fixed point, the arm moves through the stroke, so it is not fixed. If you took your hands off a belly or broomstick putter the club would stay in place, it is anchored. Take your hands off an armlock and the club falls over, so it is not anchored or fixed.
It's not anchoring by any definition. Thank you for attending my ted talk.
