Awesome video!!! I Frankenstined a Ping Sigma G blade putter when this armlock craze started. Sold it to a buddy of mine. I later found a Sik putter for $200 and I will never go back to conventional.
Great video AJ. Thanks! For someone like me who often builds his own clubs, your videos are a huge help. This will be a great way to try armlock putting without spending a fortune on a new putter. My other project is to build a "Not a Chipper" and test it out.
Good info. I could never get along with a traditional arm-lock putter so I tried a reverse arm-lock putter on a whim where the putter locks into my trail arm and have not looked back. Such a much better putter as a result.
There's an arm lock putter at my local golf store. Between an Odyssey Armlock and a Taylor Spider Tour... both $350, I love the feel of both, and I get consistent shots with both. Just not yet willing to part $350 for a putter....
Awesome video AJ. Although I don’t use one, I love the arm lock style putter especially that grip which I believe Evenroll was the first company to design that style grip. Yeah left hand low is the way too go especially with an armlock. I’ve been putting left hand low since the early 90’s ! What I don’t understand how the broomstick style putter isn’t banned entirely. Yes it’s allowed as long as the butt end is not touching your body (chest) but it’s a pendulum motion and takes out your hands entirely out from the stroke !
Did you feel any need to adjust head weight? I believe most arm lock putters have a head weight of about 400g. With my DIY arm lock conversions I found that having a putter with adjustable head weight was really helpful for me to get a good feel for lag putts.
This is what I was going to mention as well. You didn't address the fact that a lot of putter heads are going to be way too light feeling and will likely need a substantial amount of weight added to them to feel right in an arm lock
Hello, just wanted to ask, how long did you let the epoxy set for? Also am I understanding what you said correctly, to align the flat top side of the grip to the sight lines of the putter, and not to align it to the putter face?
Isn't one of the big perks of the SIK and Cobra armlocks the descending face technology along with a maximum upright lie angle. Seems like pretty important aspects of correct armlock putting to ensure straight back straight through putting ? Simply extending a 34" 2 ball putter 6 inches would probably cause the toe to dig in ?
AJ, I see by the time/month stamp on my previous comment that eight months have gone by since watching this video. So now I have a question in regards to ( wrist lock putter grips ), do you know if the slant of the shaft bore hole is angled to the side the same as the Arm Lock putter grips, so as to not need a loft adjustment. I have a Maltby lie/loft machine with ability to adjust putters on it, so want your opinion and maybe a new video on wrist lock putter grips being installed and used. Thanks for any reply, love your instruction videos in/on all golf related stuff...
Not sure of any other grips that use an angled bore other than the Lab putter grips. Wrist lock grips usually have a straight bore that I know of at least.
@@EFGMC Being inventive ??? I tried the old ( shine a flashlight ) down the vent hole of the top of the grip, then looked into the bottom end. The placement of the shaft goes straight into the extreme right edge of the grip, as seen from the players view looking down toward the putter head. The left side of the top end of the grip that bulges left toward the left wrist and therein fits snugly into the left wrist. Where I live in mid west Illinois the weather looks to let me play this coming Sunday, I'll put the grip on tomorrow with a three inch extension and give it a try then. Thank you so much for your reply.
Would love to see a video on installing a stability putter shaft. I have a Scotty 5s that I think is 350mm … was thinking of buying a 335mm shaft cutting it at 350mm then installing that to cut for the stability putter shaft to attach to then keeping the original shaft if I want to set up with original again… does this make sense or do I have it completely wrong?

I don't know if more feel is the term I'd use. Just different feel. I have found that a counter balanced putter grip helps my hands feel like they work more as a single unit vs 2 independent ones.
Question, I'm going to try this with my Odyssey Triple Track Ten S putter, I removed the grip last night and it had a 40 Gram weight in the butt section of the shaft. It also had two 20 removable weights in the head... After installing a shaft extension do you suggest adding this much weight back into the butt of the putter? I stopped using it last summer and went back to my Red 7 Putter, so I figured the Ten would be a good one to try this with.
Thanks for the great video. This could really change my game for the better. I was wondering if you thought using masking tape to install the putter grip would work like it does on irons. I wanted to try different heads and it would be easier to get the grip off and on with masking tape. Also, what about using an old shaft to extend the putter rather than ordering a shaft extender?
You can for sure use an old shaft as the extension. As for the masking tape/compressed air method. I'm just not sure it would work. I've never installed a long putter grip with air.
1. Instead of an extension, can you just cut an old club? I realize there will be a slight bump. 2. It looks like you cut yours a bit short. Not sure if you are getting the full benefit of the arm lock concept. Your thoughts?
You can use an old shaft, that's the way it used to be done. I cut it to what they recommended, though full disclosure I don't like any longer style putters so I'm in the end not the best case study.
@@EFGMC AJ I have just bought a Jumbomax JMX Jumboflat 17 inch putter grip can I place the flat part to forearm with out adjusting the loft of my Taylormade spider putter ?
Great video AJ. I been wanting to try an Armlock putter but didn’t want to spend money on another putter, I have too many as it is. I have two identical putters so I am going to try it on one. Forgive my ignorance but I went to order the extension and you have to pick 0.580 or 0.600 butt size. What is the difference and how do I know which one I got? Thanks a million.
It's based on the size of your putter's current shaft. If you can measure with some calipers the inside diameter you will know for sure. Irons have pretty much all gone to .600 shafts these days, putters you can still get some with a .580 size. Other option just get one of each size as they are cheap.
Hey AJ. I recently found an old bullseye putter in the bag of some clubs I bought. I realised it was not as buttery as my other bullseye's because I didn't have any whipping. Have you ever tried adding whipping to dampen "bad" vibrations from putters?
I had a Bullseye that a adding tungsten powder to down the shaft. Dulled the feel way down. Ended up removing it because I preferred the feel and feedback even with less head weight. You could easily add some foam down the shaft and cut down the vibration.
i have a few questions ( unrelated to this video which was very good)on club length and unfortunately i have very no good fitters near my home. im thinking about cutting my irons dow 1". im a shorter golfer (5'5") so i think this would fit me better. do you need to add head weight for swing weight? is putting weight in the shaft he best method? how much weight is needed? thanks in advance for any insight you can offer
Take your current clubs, choke down 1 inch and go play them. If they feel light then you will want to add some weight. If you like the feel then you won't need to change. Lead tape is the easiest method to add weight but if you don't like the look, tungsten powder down the shaft would be next easiest.
What should I do if I want to change to a broomstick putter? Is it the same method with two extensions? Will the lie require changing? Can you do a video on this???
Just bought the AL-3 grip. The instructions on their web site (for the AL 2 grip) says "The grip should be installed so that the logo faces out towards the ball." I don't think their wording is very good at all. I sent a question to their support people. However, the picture on the instructions show the logo facing the putter head, which makes sense, they would want their logo to face forward like that. I'm installing the AL 3 grip this weekend. I don't think they updated the instructions for the AL 3 grip but I suspect the instructions would be the same as the AL 2 grip.
I'd try one is these, but I don't have enough room in any of my golf bags to allow me to shove that grip down in the bag. And if I did pull that off, then might have a problem getting the putter/grip out of the bag. Oh the humanity.

Could a regular broomstick putter be easily modified to a face on/ sidesaddle putter?
Are there any loft considerations for using just a wrist lock grip?
Depends on how you end up anchoring the grip against your wrist. Need to keep an eye on it and see if you are delofting more/less with that setup.
