- !!! DISCLAIMER !!! THIS IS THE "EASIEST METHOD", but not the safest. Please note below to use Fully Enclosed bracket instead of Orange Low Voltage bracket.
Detailed how-to video installing additional electrical wall outlet on opposite side of existing one.
Easily add additional outlet on opposite side. Whole process took less than 30 min.

⚠️ This is a faulty install. When installing a second box, it has to be offset from the existing as they are too deep to back-up to one another. An offset of several inches is needed to ensure they don't interfere with one-another. I'd suggest correcting it by patching the new location and installing the proper components several inches away using an enclosed box. For the safety of others, I'd suggest deleting this video too.
It's not too deep if you use a low voltage frame like he did. It's just a fire hazard and a bad idea for everyone involved.
@@CorneliusBueller I think you’re missing the idea that installing a high voltage line into a low voltage frame is not an acceptable practice. Those lines should be enclosed.

So if I want to pigtail off of an outlet by my front door to put one in my garage, would that be OK? The original is up against a stud and I intend to place mine on the opposite side of the wall and the opposite stud
People I am a retired electrician everything this guy is doing is highly illegal and very dangerous don't follow his instructions

Unfortunately, that is an Orange low voltage box not safe for 120V+ outlets. You would need to use a fully enclosed "new work" box. Also, drilling holes in a box compromises the fire rating, use the appropriate knockouts. If there's a fire and the investigator traces it to your hack job, your insurance will not pay out.
@Shadi2 is correct, please see my description, this is the easiest way (using the orange low voltage bracket), but the best way and protection is to use a fully enclosed box. As I also provide a link for in the description. However you have to find a stud or way to secure the fully enclosed box.
@@DIYGEEKTEXAS "New Work" enclosed boxes have tabs that hold to the drywall, just like the orange box. I usually glue in thin shims above/below on the inside of the outlet hole, so the tab holds against the board rather than drywall.

@@DIYGEEKTEXAS There are electrical boxes that now secure themselves to the drywall (sheet rock). They do not need to be anchored to a wall stud. They're for finished walls where you can not use a hammer to drive the nails into a wall stud.
If you don't have a friend 🥺, you can plug in a loud radio and flip breakers until the music stops.

That orange wall bracket is a low voltage bracket. Used for phone or network jacks, not 120v wiring.
All 110 connections need to be in a box. You're using a wall mount bracket for low voltage or data.
See this is why UA-cam getting rid of the dislike button was bad. Because people do dangerous things like this and there's no way of telling that it's the wrong way and dangerous unless you read the comments.
It is ridiculously unsafe to push 120 volts through a low-voltage box intended for telephone or tv. Please take down this video.
Isn't the GFCI outlet he's using meant to support up to 20amp as indicated by the horizontal slit on the neutral side? I think that gives a false impression of supported voltage; that's dangerous.
@@rithlim6016 You are correct. 15 amp branch circuit 15 amp devices. 20 amp multiple receptacles 15 or 20 amps. A dedicated 20 amp circuit with single receptacle 20 amp only.
You are keeping this up for the views? My guy, take it down. You can put all the disclaimers you want but its still wrong to show people how to do it wrong. You should change the title to say "Adding Electrical Wall Outlet on Opposite Side of Wall - The Dumbest and most UNSAFE Method" if you plan on keeping it up.

This install is against the code, You are not allowed to enter an electric box without running the wire thru a stress relief fitting.
Are you using 14/2 cable with a 20V plug?
Not trying to be rude but you did a lot of explaining but when you come to installing the outlet you showed nothing but some fast clips of nothing and music. Simple explanation and good videos of what is actually being would be best. Thanks

Okay, this may be a bad idea for 120v electrical outlet, but this will help to do the same for my internet. Some numbskull put my only internet outlet box in the kitchen. So I'm going through the wall opposite of it into the living room for my wifi. Why would they design the home for the wifi to sit under my cereal cabinet on the countertop???

That orange box is for low voltage only
List of violations of NEC. Low voltage frames are not tested and listed for 120 volt devices. Installing receptacles open back is not legal unless the devices are tested and listed for the installation. That receptacle is not. Drilling holes through the back of the box violates its listing. Must be listed. Connecting two ground conductors under one screw is a violation. Installing a 20 amp receptacle to a 15 amp branch circuit is a violation.
It is very sad that people having no idea what they are doing put this type video on UA-cam to try and make money.

Do not install this way in north america. This does not meet code
Totally illegal to use low voltage bracket with 110V.
People should not post DIY electrical unless professional/licensed, this is a hazard install, not to code at all. if failure of that new electrical outlet do not have the proper box for containment. and some insurance companies, if DIY electrical is a cause for a house fire, good luck getting that claim.

The new extension outlet could have been set up with the orange bracket and wired with electrical wires first then push it through the other side and wired together with the old outlet. I did that with mine and it was done much easier.
When you call neutral "common" you shouldn't be working on it.
