It’s sad to see them go just like Lenny‘s closed. Almost a year ago but they closed for the same reason. They were getting older and working six and seven days a week. All those hours are not easy and at least they’re doing it for the right reason to spend more time with the family. Owning your own business takes a lot of sacrifice. The only thing I wonder is, would they not be able to put people in place and just work part time. They would make less money, but they would still have some money coming in and not lose the place altogether, unless if someone offered them a real nice penny for the property something I think happen with Lenny. I’m not sure but I think someone came in wanted the property for medical buildings and who knows if somebody paid them some big bucks it was worth it to leave again that is just something I heard it may not be true, but I don’t know why else you would give up and not have someone else run it for you and I know you can never trust somebody as much but with today’s cameras and technology it’s not like back in the days.
The owner is closing doors because they are not making money. Its just not there due to inflation. Also they never updated the interior of there store to appeal to the next generation. 😕

Oh, and it's a SLICE of pizza, not a cut, and it's a PIE !!!! Some places say "We're not a bakery, we don't serve pies." Well......BUNK TO THAT !!!!!
it was a sad day for sunset park yesterday, we are losing all our original pizzerias, started with Scotties, then Charles , then royal kings , now Johnny's we have no decent pizza on 5th ave anymore , this shit is super sad, but everyone deserves to retire , they served nothing but smiles for years.
I went to the area a few months ago with my kid there was nothing left in the area I was so sad took my kid so he can see where I grew up and all I saw were Mexican stores hardly no restaurants but Johnny's was still there standing I took pictures I will never forget this spot good memories
Younger generations want nothing to do with established family businesses. What a shame. They don't want to work that hard
Why are these places closing down with such little notice?
Building probably being torn down.
You heard the second guy, medical problems. I remember back when I was a kid there was a barbaer shop in the nieghborhood. It was run by two brothers. One day one brother found the other sitting in the chair dead. They closed that day and never opened again.
@@boristheamerican2938 I did not see that part.
So many places like this are closing with so little notice it even seems like they're keeping something from us.
Usually if You want to retire you sell the business and have the money for your retirement and your family. If theres no family to run it or take it over you see if the employees want to buy or run it.
This is the 4th great pizzeria to close in this manner in the past two years.
All 4 with short notice. Just sayin, seems weird.
@@fuddcar Us boomers are retiring like flies, I get my gold watch in 7 weeks. No conspiracies.
2 home the shit on the borr grints
@@boristheamerican2938 if you were retiring from a business you created and owned wouldnt you try to sell it. Maybe to your long time employees?
Why close it ,why not just leave it to the employee's to take the legacy further
Sell it.. There's a brand
Sadly you could now expect a Taco Bodega or a Chinese take out
Papa John's moved in right next door. That couldn't have helped. I hope people chose the old character-filled place over the mediocre chain restaurant, but that's not always how it works. Sad.
Rocco. Enjoy your retirement. God Bless.
I have heard of this place Johnny's Pizzeria, it's sad to hear that it's closing, the old local pizzerias are the best, better than the national chains
Sad to see place close
Electric stoves make crap pizza. F ny state
I wish they told the truth why they were closing.
The owner is closing doors because they are not making money. Its just not there due to inflation. Also they never updated the interior of there store to appeal to the next generation. 😕
Are you telling me there is no one who wants to buy this successful business?
Why not sell the business and keep the legacy alive.
Im curious what their annual net profit is.
Enjoy life my friend many blessings
Why not sell it to new owners and keep it open?!?!?!
Damn
Over 50 years, they can’t earn enough to buy a building themselves so they can run the family business privately??
Pizza doesn’t make money
@@jenny8588 then how does the 99cents pizza pop up all over New York, and survive high rent ? (Over the past few years, dollar stores demonstrates the resilience of cheap products and is deemed an even better investment than some regular stores), same here. And as long as you have a famous store, easy mortgage. Cash flow is there.
@@michanel888 99 cent pizza shops have been trying to increase prices for years. Dollar stores have equal or greater buying power and pricing then walmart or cosco. Do you think local pizza shops have the same economic model? Study business and economics a little more homie.
@@drayne3750 I’ve seen they go up to 1.50 during the pandameics, that’s simply a model I am referring to. At Brooklyn, it cost probably 1.5-2m for a building now, so much cheaper in the old days. With a store with this, you don’t think they can come up with a mortgage?
Then how does the Chinese and Mexicans became a better economics mentor than you? Because they figured out how to buy their buildings and yet you aren’t?
Chinese and Koreans own their laundromat, how are they able to come up and buy their shop while the family work 50 years, and aren’t able to? THEY need to learn economics 😆
@@michanel888 Hey dumbass who said I was an economic mentor? You have the elitist attitude not me homie.
Maybe they own the building and will sell it to finance their lower stress lifestyle?
Clearly they shouldve gone to you to figure out how to make more money
Your also the kind of guy to complain about a .50 cent increase to a price of pizza. Do you think they lowered prices because they wanted too or because you cried about it?
Now if you just show up from out of country you get the American dream. If you're born here, you're living the American nightmare.
nah thats cody rhodes
@@eddiew2325 Haha 😅 okay you win.
So they all simultaneously decide to give up on this 50 yr old family business bc of other pursuits? Doesn't add up. They just don't want to say why.
Probably taxed to death. Not enough reliable employees?
Lots of ppl list family business or gettin ready too loose their business The economy is not great Who can afford too eat out n prices sky high. Sorry
I don’t get it why not bring in a GM and let him run it or sale the business. Something isn’t right here
Because they were afraid of giving out their secret ingredients and recipe
