Cool! Just one suggestion, avoid adding more than these five drives to your RAID5. Rebuilding will take ages and you increase your risk losing the whole array with a rebuild the more drives you use. You very likely are aware of this anyways. I had an 8 disk RAID5 array, that was a mess once a drive failed...
Yep i was playing with different RAID levels and getting familiar with the MegaRAID. But i did do RAID 6 cause i know what RAID 5 is and all the pain if offers. :)
You have got a great setup. You must have learned a lot of things along the way. Keep up with the great work. I would appreciate if you could give some advice. Presently I have about 25TB of data scattered all over in external drives, I want to consolidate all of my data in a rack server. In India, the Dell R230 is available for about USD 1000. I can install 4x6TB drives in it, as that is what it supports. I am confused so as to what operating system should I go with, and how the file sharing would work? I don't care about the redundancy since I have a backup of all the data in external drives. Please suggest if it would be a good idea to install Ubuntu Desktop, with Samba file server, and can I access that data on my Mac which would act as a plex server? What kind of transfer speed can we expect from Mac to Samba Share on Ubuntu over 1Gb Ethernet, WD Red Drives?

Nice job, was wondering if you would do a tutorial on setting up OpenFLIXR? Have been trying to setup on ESXi and Hyper_V and am failing.
Love it :)
