I am a crocheter, and I can knit. I bought the addi for 1 purpose ( well 1.5). To make acrylic hats for the homeless (and bust thru my older stash) I still hand crochet and knit some of those hats, but I need at least 80 hats each year, so I fell in love with my addi. Last month I bought the 22-pin addi and now I’m cranking out preemie hats. I don’t think I’ll ever hand knit a premie hat again. So with my machines I can crank out hats ( well on the big machine I use a motor or a drill) and I still have plenty of time each year to make whatever other projects I want. So the Addi works for my lifestyle. For fun I will learn some other projects. Your video is very thorough.

Yes, multi-craftuous! Aw! The preemie hats sound so sweet!

This video was super interesting! I've not used a knitting machine before but was curious about how it worked. It was cool to hear your descriptions of the differences vs. hand knitting and the limitations too! So cool that while you had it, you could involve your kids in making their own hats, that's super awesome 😊 The rhino and unicorn hats are so cute!!

Thank you so much! It was really fun! I would love to try a sock knitting machine sometime, but those are pretty expensive. Maybe someday though!

Thanks for this information. I wonder if the Centro would be worth it for charity knitting..for quick items like scarves and hats?

I think so! I am most definitely gifting many of these.

Very interesting. I thought about buying a Sentro knitting machine, just to try it. But after watching several videos on the topic I lost interest, because I really don't like how the stitches look. I've been crocheting and knitting for the last 45 years, so I don't really have a need for such a gadget, because that's what it would be for me. It could be different if I had kids to knit for.

I was excited to get my Sentro too. Didn't last very long though. I found the tension to be the big issue as well. I don't like the idea of needing to make hats and cowls twice as long as I need in order to get the thickness I want. I live in the far north next to the Canadian border and it gets pretty windy here sometimes. I need something that is thick and dense. I love double knit loom knitting for both of those reasons. I also don't like that you can't really get the stitch patterns with Sentro as it is designed to just knit. I've seen videos with interesting strand maneuvers, but to me it defeats the purpose of having a speed machine to do the knitting. So I felt it was basically just good for people who want to make shorter head bands or those who have a business with lots of orders in which a machine could speed things up. Since I'm not really in either of those categories, I much prefer the versatility of needle and loom knitting/crocheting. I don't have a need to crank out hats and cowls at lightening speed. My Sentro will like be a novelty dust collector. 😂

You don't have to cinch hats from an Addi or Sentro. It's easy to slip it onto some DPNs and shape the crown. And where do you live that those double layer hats aren't warm? It was -40F here last week and my hats were more than warm enough.
The stitches you're saying are "messed up" are tucked not dropped. Those can be easily fixed on or off the loom before you finish the item. They're are also ways to avoid them happening altogether, the easiest of which is reducing the static in the yarn using silicone or just a dryer sheet at the yarn feed or a water mister. Static is the main cause of tucked and dropped stitches on plastic circular knitters.
On your headband, rather than cinching I graft them using a kitchener stitch into a complete tube. Other people do a twist on the front. But cinching isn't the best way to finish those.
But more than all of that, it's not a hat machine. I've made blankets--both for babies and adults--scarves, wraps, and even a couple of sweaters.
Whatever. I'm too old and disabled to knit the way you do anymore. I'm tired of the idea that there's a lack of creativity using circular knitters, be they CSMs or Addis and Sentros. I have been knitting since 1967 (and crocheting since 1966), so I've done my time. Now I can stretch my creativity in a new and different way. I might give your review more credence if you'd made something that wasn't a hat with that Sentro. Again, it's not a hat machine.

Hi! I'm aware you can make more than hats with knitting machines, but for me and my family, that's what we needed at the time.
I live in Northern Indiana and it was very close to the temperatures you described last week, so I'm sure you understand that it's very cold. As I was saying in the video, once I got to a bulky or super bulky weight the double layer was fine, but before that the wind was blowing through both layers and for my kids in negative temps, that just not ideal.
Thank you for all the ideas on how to utilize the machine more. My review wasn't so much a slam on the machine, but more on the pros and cons of how it could serve me and what I wanted.
We still use most of the hats on less frigid days, so it was still a great way to use up some yarn I wasn't excited by and make it into something useful. :)

You tried it Kap and it just doesn't work for you. Handknitting will never go out of style, it doesn't judge nor finalize a project worth mentioning. Nice podcast. I value your opinion on a product. It may work for others and that's absolutely great. Take care Kap. Enjoy 😊 the sunshine. Ken

Thanks for the info! I hear the Addi machine has fewer pins, I wonder if that would result in a tighter gauge. Could you go buy one and test it for me too please🤣🤣🤣

Guage is huge on Addi. It says to use #4 worsted/arran weight and the fabric is still not tight enough to wear as a single layer garment. Hoping that I can use cotton and/wool and shrink it to make a tighter fabric.

I’m so glad I happened upon your review today. I’ve been checking through quite a few videos to find out if I might enjoy using a sentro knitting machine. I’ve knit two Musselburgh hats already on 2.75mm needles and have already cast on another three, completed all the crown increases, ready for some mindless TV knitting! However, the examples of gauge I was seeing knitted on the machine was definitely not my cup of tea, and I was wondering if there was a way to achieve a finer gauge. You have answered that question for me.I was also concerned that the cranking action would actually become exhausting (I’m 73), and I think you covered that too. So thank you. I think I might just stick to knitting hats and socks the old fashioned way as I much prefer the look of the fabric knitted on fingering weight and small needles. Also… love your Musselburgh Hat! 😊

I am so glad too! I'm making the same decision as well. We can knit Musselburghs and socks together! Someday, I would really love to try a sock knitting machine. I have a feeling it would be a lot closer to what I'd like, since it's so many pins in such a small circumference, but I'll have to see!
