    Glarry recently came out with some new models so they asked me to check one of them out. I chose the GIZ 102 because it looked like a new guitar! I later came to find out it is based on the Ibanez AX120 model... but Glarry's is $50 cheaper... and a set neck! I used to really love the Glarry Strats... but these GIZ 102s are my new favorite. I would suggest giving one a shot!

      PSA, tape off and/or cover the fingerboard before using Blue Magic (or any metal polish). Different grades of fingerboard woods can potentially absorb and hold some of the polishing compound causing a discoloration.

      IMHO, the '57 Goldtop with natural back and side w/Stinger is just different enough as to stand out among a crowd of beautiful Bursts.
      Either version would be amazing.

I am so glad my wrist is all healed up and I can play normally!The guitar itself is nice and a good beginner guitar for my lefty wife.

But I'd be interested in picking this up just to slap the Heafy pick ups in, idk why, but I love that idea. excellent value. after seeing so many guitars on this channel that costs 30 X to 40X of this price, this is a really good guitar to start with for beginners. the pickups sound better than expected and probably all it needs is a change of pots (when the time comes for replacement) and some better tuners. even much more expensive guitars do not get a bone nut. i like that double cut shape as well. the only thing i think which will improve the guitar significantly is a change of logo. Even just putting in a symbol instead of the word will be better than the current one. Maybe they can ditch their standard glarry logo they use for other instruments and come out with a logo just for the guitar range or perhaps use a new logo for the "series" instead of the parent logo. perhaps they can start a logo contest for their guitar series with a guitar of choice for the first 3 winners.

    • @lurklingX
      @lurklingX Рік тому

    • @lurklingX
      @lurklingX Рік тому

      also they reaaaaaaaaaaaally need a better logo for instruments, especially guitar. totally agree with you. i think it looks cheesy as hell, like for kids. limits their market imho.

      @@lurklingX full sized CTS pots are usually used in the pricier guitars. Supposedly to be better made since they cost more and are american made. But alpha pots are used extensively by many manufacturers too. I would only replace them when the time comes for replacement (scratchy or faulty) but not straight away when they still function as it should..

    I always use those big pink pencil erasers to polish frets. a person still has to use some elbow grease but they work really good. I always keep about four or five of them in my guitar tool bag along with the rest of the guitar tools. they work way better than steel wool and most polishing compounds. besides steel wool is not good to use on guitars. it can find it's way into your pickups and damage them.

I know some of the name brands do bundles for beginners but I think they'd do well for experienced guitarist to offer bundles other than for the really high end guitars . Of course with better cables and at least a soft side hard case. When I bought my American Special Telecaster I told the sales man no deal unless I get a sturdy case and he can keep the cheap gigbag.

Except for one of the latches not being completely stable and the fact that it only has 4 latches instead of 5 I'd compare it to many cases costing twice what I paid for it even without a brand on it. I'm actually keeping my Studio I just bought in it till I get the Gibson case thata on backorder. Much better than Glarry's 6 string banjo. Ordered one and it arrived in pieces. Contacted Glarry and they replaced it, told me to keep the first one. Looks terrific. Sounds pretty good, plays just awful. The neck on that is like playing on a log or a vent pipe. My winter project will be sanding to slim that fat puppy down. Ordered a couple of their cases afterward, well made held up well inr shipping.

    For a bit more (310 bucks, according to Yamaha's website), a Yamaha Pacifica PAC112v will require way less initial maintenance and will come with a bridge that you can actually adjust.
    If you add up the cost of the products that Austin had to use to bring the Glarry to a semi-decent state, you may be spending less money with the Pacifica. Just my two cents in case any viewer is considering a purchase.

    You know, Austin, I started watching this vid thinking that I might purchase one of these beasts. You convinced me otherwise. One thing I always try to consider when thinking about cheap guitars is, "How can I upgrade them?" Upgrading (for me, anyway) is harder with hard tails than with vibrato-equipped axes, so I think more about them. The thing that kills this Glarry for me is the fretboard radius. I'm a very bluesy player, and even my vibrato tends to be the type that bends strings. If that Glarry had the 12 inch radius that it looks like it has, I'd be down -- but instead, for some idiotic reason Glarry went with Fender's 9.5 inch radius. That by itself might be (MIGHT be) okay, but then Glarry went and did a radius mismatch between the fretboard's radius and the bridge radius. I'd lay down money that the bridge and tailpiece that they used conform to the usual specs for TOM-style bridges and stopbar tails. That would set those radii at 12 inches (like a Gibson) and that would constitute a radius mismatch. Since TOM-style bridges offer bupkus for individual string height adjustment, the mismatch is permanent. All of the replacement TOM-style bridges I know about maintain the 12 inch radius standard; they can't help. And yes, it's true that I own and love two guitars with 14 inch radius fretboards and 12 inch radius bridges, but here the fretboards are FLATTER, not ROUNDER, than the bridges. I say that Glarry went the wrong way here ... and my money says that, too! Too bad, too. I might have bitten this bait, but I can't fix a fretboard that's too round for my taste, and replacing the neck would be just as big a problem for the Glarry as for any other set neck axe ... if not worse.

      I understand what you're saying, but Fender has many 9.5" radius guitars that have TOMs, some very expensive. I could be wrong but I can't imagine they would put a 12" radius bridge on a 9.5" radius neck (meaning Fender, I wouldn't be surprised if Glarry did something like that)

    I have an EPI LP sunburst and a 67 or 68 Gibson SG I bought in the 70s for $150. Some dumbass split the headstock trying to put Grovers on it. Excellent repair job, you really can't tell it was split. I got the LP for $325 with a hard case. I wanted a GIZ101 in the purple, but you didn't like that one, so I passed. I may spring for this one in gold. You can never have too many guitars or motorcycles.

    I dig the idea of this guitar, but the decked hardware would definitely make me shy away from it. Someone could swap the bridge and tailpiece studs for lower profile units, but then you're at nearly the same price point as the Ibanez version.
    Set neck versus bolt-on... that's a very subjective argument, really. They each have their pros and cons, but at the end of the day, things like nut material, bridge/tailpiece mass, and tremolo sustain block seem to make much more of a difference in terms of sustain. I have guitars that have both, and, properly set up, either is great to me.
    The poplar body is super cool, I have to admit. If it wouldn't sit too high (that decked hardware...), I'd be curious about throwing a Bigsby on there. As long as they would stay in tune, the tuners would probably be acceptable, but I have a feeling that even a cheap set from Harley Benton/Thomann would be an upgrade. I have a set on my Gibson Sonex, they're actually really good.
    What I'm most impressed with is the pickups. Those actually sound really good for cheap pups! They're likely molybdenum magnets, given the output, but underwound, giving them more of an AlNiCo IV/V vibe. Someone put some thought into those, and it paid off. Good on them.
    If it wasn't for that bridge and tailpiece being decked, I'd buy one. As it is, it would be cool to see if swapping the bridge and tailpiece studs would make a difference, because if it does, it's a perfect platform for those mods, and you would have a decent quality instrument for not much money.

    Assuming you have it setup well. IMHO the pickups sounded dark, a little muddy on the string separation and overall. All of which got worse dirty. Dirty the bridge had a really loose, flubby bottom end and slightly shrill top end. I get the price point. But, it would need new PUPs imho, and that tight rout might make that hard.

    One of the downsides to a poplar body is that it is one of the softest woods you can use for a guitar body, so if you look at it hard it will dent the body. I also think I would almost want a bolted neck with the poplar body. Forget about neck bends.
