- Rokka’s rescue is more of an epic saga than a mere story. It all began on the evening of 26th July 2021, during a routine patrol along the Tiva River. Flying over a popular watering point, our pilots spotted a lone baby elephant. She was far too young to be on her own - seven months old, at most - and looked extremely stressed.

Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

I am so honoured to Foster a number of Elephants as you all do such an amazing job. Thank you for saving this little one before lions could get her. I have also just adopted Taabu for my one year old grandson and have bought him the Garzi book and puzzle as I want to teach him about saving wild life from an early age. So when I have left this world my grandson will continue my fight to help all wildlife and keep them safely in the the wild.

Beautiful rescue. Sad the calf lost her mother to poachers. I am so happy she is at the nursey. She will thrive with all the love and support from her Keepers and the other orphans. With her courage and spirit, she is going to thrive. Thank you for rescuing her.

Poor little girl!! Despite the fact that she most likely saw her mother being slaughtered, she seems to be settling in and making new friends quite nicely. Thanks to everyone who helped rescue her.

It is disgusting that these babies are orphaned at such a young age by poachers and evil greedy people. Thank God that people like those at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust exist to take care of these innocent souls. I wish I had a lot of money as I would adopt each and every one if these sweet babies. Poor little baby. She has had a very hard start to life and she lost her mother who she won't understand why or how. It's sad but so blessed to have people like DSWT to make me feel better that I know she is in great hands and knowing she is going to be having a better life now

Claudette: Today Dec. 15 is Rokka's one year old birthday! Help me celebrate my new foster angel as I have wished her a Happy Birthday across the miles. I blew her good wishes from CA in US and hope they are celebrating her in Kenya. L-Ove at first sight--well almost !! At first great admiration for the ranger and others who saved her--and her lovely eyes on way to Sheldrick! Then standing so lovingly and being so pert as she traveled along.with carers and other orphans. Picking up her bottle from the lawn, with bending knees and sweet trunk was the final decision YES must adopt her of the Heart. Her adoption starts tonight the l3th of Dec and she will celebrate her first birthday in 2 days!!! on Dec.15.2021. Happy Birthday sweet angel!💞💗💖💝🐘💞

Rokka is one of my adoptions and I am so glad that she was rescued by you amazing people but she must have witnessed horrific trauma seeing her mother killed..these poachers are disgusting to eradicate these precious lives and to just carry on with theirs if nothing has happened..Hope to visit SWT in nr future and Big Thanks everyone @SWT.💖👏👏

I am not a mean or wicked person at all. I just have the worst thoughts about poachers! They should have a Poaching poachers Unit. The sense of anger I have towards them is so grand that I just can't say anything nice BUT to Sheldrick Trust! You all have been such an inspiration to me and my love of elephants ever since I can remember! Daphne and the entire family are all Ele Angels!
