The ctc tones can be easily changed via the menu system in the Radio just go to the menu and hit the middle button. Gotta learn to toggle it. Great review!

@@MCTGMRS78009 thanks for the review. I bought this radio simply because you liked it and I figured you knew what you were talking about. All those radios in your room lol. Thanks for your advice and insight much appreciated.

I have a set of 6 of the regular RB17 for passing out when I do audio gigs and they are fantastic! I might give the RB17P a try to put in the kit to have a couple dual monitor radios that are simple to use.

For the price, you can't beat them.

The problem that he is taking about concerning the input of ctc tones is not hard at all. Its only a few kets away you just have to know how to change the tones. Go to menu and go t-ctss and the middle button and you can change the tones easily. You need the cable to program names. Cheers

It's not hard, it's time consuming and unnecessary in my opinion.

Received my RB17P today (15Apr2023), and the Retevis software still has the Ch.17 glitch. I was able to program the name to Ch.17 and additional channels using the current (14Apr2023) version of chirp. Seems like it's working great from my testing so far.

thanks for the honest review. I first heard of Retevis because I like the design of the RA86. I'm still up in the air about buying new Chinese or used Japanese for GMRS. there are lots of old but extremely durable Kenwood and Icom UHF radios floating around second hand and their software is top notch. I'm just not convinced these radios are ready for real life beyond an enthusiast or ham lol I want radios I can just hand my wife and nephews and not have to explain anything but how to switch through numbered (not by frequency) channels.

100%! We've started purchasing the simple HTs for the same reasons! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I've had mine since September & it's missing menu items, but the transmit audio & range are excellent, so I still use them.

Would you put this over a Baefung U5-VR? Or are they really two different classes of radio. I'm in Medina County and interested in getting into this by entering at the handheld level.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I would say these are a more simple/basic radio than the uv5r's. I have a few of these that I give out to folks to try and they all seem to like them bcs they don't have all the buttons and don't look so intimidating. If you decide to pick some up, let me know and I can show you how to get them programed up or help you. We meet for breakfast just about every Sunday at 9am at El Portal in Castroville 👍

I'll try skipping up that way for one of your meetups. Just really trying to decide between these Retevis and Baefong radios. @@MCTGMRS78009

These have some similarities to the Btech GMRS Pro (Button placement) The screen and speakers are reversed.

The only way to program this model is via PC and programming cable. What updates is it needing?

As far as transmitting and receiving my Retevis RT76P is ok .?the problem I have is stuck in narrow band . I have to punch the frequency mode. Retevis makes a quality builld as far as rugged felling . Yes not sure why retevis alway bolts there antennas on GMRS radio. I have been checking that model out. I wish retevis would make a 50watt mobile radio also

OMG! a 50 watt mobile option from them would be amazing! I really like their products, they just always seem to have a quirk with something. 🥴

What's that unit next to your white fan? I'm looking for a desktop GMRS solution. Best I can do now is use a car unit and bench top power from 110 to 12v.

So, that's the Vertex VXR7000 desktop repeater a friend sold me for 100 bucks! It's ready to go, just need to program it. I plan on using it as a base station and a backup for the Dunlay repeater if ever needed. It's only drawback is its only 16 channels.

Not bad radios for $70, considering the minor inconveniences. I don't have access to a computer, so, is correcting those annoyances really hard by fpp input? Thanks for sharing.
