Thank you to www.travelchin... for hosting me on my trip to Tibet!
Today we had the honor of going to a local Tibetan family home for an outstanding traditional, and special Tibetan food meal. It was not only a chance to try Tibetan foods that are not typically available at a restaurant, but a total learning experience about Tibetan food and culture. #Tibet #Lhasa #TibetanFood
After arriving to the family home we first enjoyed some Tibetan butter tea and snacks, and then proceeded to the kitchen to start cooking. I loved the decoration and style of Tibetan homes, so warm, cozy, and welcoming.
Some of the main Tibetan food they prepared were yak and cheese momos, fried potato momos, soup with yak meatballs, a steamed sheep head, fried mutton with potatoes and onions, ginseng fruit with sugar and butter, and a number of other impressive Tibetan foods.
The food was delicious and meaty (and very hearty), the setting was gorgeous Tibetan culture, and the hospitality stood out among everything. What an outstanding day in Lhasa, Tibet!
Thank you to Travel China & Tibet (www.travelchin..., they sponsored my trip to Tibet, and they did an amazing job to cater to the exact things I wanted to do. Highly recommended when you visit Tibet.

My best friend Tenzin was from Tibet. Dinners with her lovely family were some of my favorite childhood memories! My young mind was amazed to see how different the food was from what I was used to! It was amazing to learn about the variety of the dishes, and the different flavors! My mom says I would want to go over there every night for dinner. Now as an adult, so many Tibetan dishes are pure comfort food for me. I’m so thankful for that influence as a child.

Without meats and fat you can’t survive in high altitudes. Mostly , Tibetan people believe eating big animals which provides lot of meat also fulfilled many people stomachs and losing one life . Small animals like a chicken and seafood won’t work. Lots of life in one dishes. I love Tibet.

Musroom, cheese, milk, curd, butter are also like a meat.only meat is not good for health.lots of people in the world are eating veg and fruits items.ordinary peoples can eat meat items but buddhist monks and nuns should be pureveg and live simple life without violence.this is real buddhism.

I have been blessed to travel to China twice. Beautiful people, kind, loving. We went to Shangrila to a monastery and saw their beautiful garden of vegetables.
At a family's home we had tea, one with yak milk and one plain.
It was hot and SALTY. Small pieces of yak cheese, again SALTY! We enjoyed so richly the friendly family with 3 little children. The large house had the animals on the first level. The 2nd level was the family. Not much furnishing but they had a large flat screen TV. The children were so excited to share with us. For school they travel a long way and stay for week and home on weekend. State run school.
