AtomRC Dolphin -6S- Fastest on YOUTUBE VERSION3 (Part 4)

- This is the build and top speed runs of the version 3 atomrc dolphin. Serious aerodynamic modifications has been made to this radio controlled plane ( airframe ) in order to push the boundaries and achieve incredible top speeds and also withstand the top speeds achieved in this video. The record stands at 190mph by " Jeff does this " with his twin motor build. In this video i set a new record for a single motor 6s atomrc dolphin. The modification's made to my airframe will allow it to push past the 200mph mark. The aerodynamic modifications plus the electronic upgrades allows full control of the aircraft at top speed unlike the other versions i have built in the past. Today i got i rite and tomorrow i will set a new record for this airframe.

Great job my friend😊
What pitch prop are you running you need to go smaller diameter more pitch that will equate to more speed 😊 I proved it on my funjet and my dolphin ! I'm running a 4.25 by 5.5 cut down camspeed prop and reaching 185mph in level flight and 206 from a shallow dive ! 4s high kv. Inrunner !! Hopefully soon I will be able to make and post a video 😊 I'm rooting for you rotor flex 😊
Nice editing! Wonderful mods, dremel for the win!
@hsynneva, thanks buddy. The dremel is one of those tools that I wonder how i survived without it…Rotorflex👍
His dive looked like a gps glitch he didn’t sustain the speed at all
Amazing!
Tom, cheers buddy. Was an interesting build for sure.👍
Nice mods it looks stable at high speeds. Speed runs should start at level flight and end at level flight, everyone does it but dives don`t count
Agreed, going for a motor upgrade and we will hopefully break the record on a level run. Cheers……Rotorflex👍
Mate 176mph Brilliant for a real dolphin single motor pusher prop it looks like a dolphin the fastest 6s single motor on youtube you hold the title mate
as that Jeff guy iis NOT as he has 3 motors and everyone knows extra motors cause drag a dolphin only has ONE MOTOR so you are KING OF SPEED
Jeffs 190 was completely BULL
Id apply lightweight glass cloth and epoxy to the wings to give them rigidity and a high gloss finish. Balsa Elevons....This is the occilation cause in the dive....You need an eight inch pitch prop to go faster. The prop could also be holding it back....Gliders go faster...lol...😏😏🇬🇧
@EnglishTurbines, During the flight i thought all was well until i was editing the video and seen the occupations at max speed. The wings have been shortened to reduce the leaver affect plus drag, the laminate is extremely strong making the wings very stiff but part of me now wishes i had glasses them to remove all doubt. The main thing is that i still have full control at high speed and no unwanted rolling is occurring. I am using a 5x5 speed prop at the moment with a 2200kv motor, A larger prop is an interesting concept to me and believe me your not the first to suggest this on youtube but it has always went against what i have been taught and learned from my fast nitro days. The theory i was taught was a smaller prop will allow the engine to rev out in the air and not act as an airbrake (windmilling) when the engine is getting close to its peak rpm allowing a little more extra top end speed and performs better in a dive that a larger prop. I am definitely willing to give the larger prop ago as you have suggested so i will match it with a lower kv motor to stop me melting another one. Some gliders definitely go faster, i have quite a few models that will outperform this dolphin but i want to keep pushing this little PNP foamy to see what i can get out of it for giggles 🤭. Thanks for your comment and the suggestions. I will let you know how i get on with trying a larger prop..... Rotorflex 👍🏼
Just need a variable pitch/constant speed prop 😋
@@MatyasArby a variable pitch prop would definitely be the answer. Thanks for the comment buddy…..Rotorflex👍
X2 of what he said. I’ve been toying around with fiberglass and epoxy and it’s definitely worth the little added weight
@@dronepilot260rc for sure, I use to glass some of my older models and the strength benefits are brilliant. Thanks for the comments dronepilot…..Rotorflex👍
😂😂😂 superb!
@@irvine40 thanks, was a fun video to make….Rotorflex👍
If you love this airframe, you’ll really love the Strix Goblin 👹
@@dronepilot260rc I would love a Strix Goblin in my fleet for sure. It’s one of those planes that will do everything well. Thanks for the comment buddy…..Rotorflex👍
Big investment of your technology please sir
What is SHIM? Never heard of
@@sebastiantomczyk4577 a Shim is used to space or align, it can be many different shapes and sizes to suit the desired outcome. I made my own Shim to correct the motor mount angle so the motor thrust is inline with the wing cord. The Shim was made from ply wood. Hope that helps and that’s for the comment……Rotorflex👍
@@torquedude do I see correctly, did you mount that shim with some angle? I guess thats for compensaton of the initial angle that prop was installed. But why the producer included in its design this angle?
@@sebastiantomczyk4577 great question. Atomrc has designed the dolphin to fly at low and mid speeds ( 15 to 100mph ). On the original design the combination of motor up thrust, downward facing winglets and tapered tail fins allow the dolphin to be very stable at low speeds. I had to remove these features to achieve the high speeds on 6s but at a cost. My dolphin is no longer stable at low speeds so I have to land a little faster than normal. Atomrc have definitely done a great job with their design but I want to see how far I can push this airframe…..Rotorflex
@@torquedude wow, thats great.
@@sebastiantomczyk4577 thanks for the comment and happy to help and explain the modifications……..Rotorflex👍
Horizon mode?
@@scottyh72 the horizontal run was in horizon mode and the dive was in acro mode. I carried out a lot of testing in acro mode as horizon can mask a lot of issues, I believe that’s why my older versions crashed due to rolling on their own at high speed. Thanks for the comment buddy…..Rotorflex👍
@@torquedude Horizon is scary af. I fly acro only, even vtol. Inav puts I term in the levelling loop, that doesn't work. They need to run more I term in acro so all the accel needs is a set point, but Darren thinks acro is manual with some P term. Dumb.
@@scottyh72 interesting. I must admit that I have gotten lazy over the years with fixed wing and find myself using horizon more often but will fly quads acro only. Thanks for the info and I’ll stick to acro from now on with fixed wings. A lot has definitely changed regarding Fc tuning. I use to help out on the open pilot project many years ago but I have honestly lost touch with all the filters that have been added. Again thanks for your help……Rotorflex👍
