Dormin is definitely not a good guy. If it wasn't for the sage who entrapped Dormin again while fleeing, the Dormin would have definitely killed and destroy everything and everyone involved its capture. The plan was to be resurrected by using Wanderer, but in the end, Dormin was stopped by the sage who was 100% sure Dormin was going to get destroyed when he did what he did. He just wasnt sure if there was a way for the Wanderer to survive the spell.
In case you didn't notice, Wanda (the hero) looks progressively worse after every fight, until he sort of looks like a zombie in the end. I think it becomes noticable after the 3rd or 4th colossus.
I found it incredible how he went through the loss of Agro in the same way I did... First disbelieving, even laughing... And then almost crying... Soon after focusing all his energy on hatred and saying he would kill the next one for her. And then losing himself so much in hatred to the point where he even forgot about Agro, until he saw horses at the end and realized how much he lost himself on the way. Seeing all of this reminded me exactly how I felt the first time and it was magical. Thank you.
What an exellent playthrough Mati. A little fun fact: If you replay the the Game 2,5 times, your stamina grows so big you can climb the temple and you are able to visit the garden you saw in the credits and traverse the big bridge.
No need to replay, you can do it by hunting every white tail lizar in existance. Oh and also there are fruits in the garden. But as everything in this it has a symbolism as well, instead of giving you more health, instead it takes a lot of heatlh and stamina from you. You know. To humble you down now that you're a god that can climb everything in the mortal realm.
Also fun fact with this game, I was 13 when it came out and I got it on release, as I was starting it my mum came in and talked to me about something irrelevant, and I completely missed the tutorial about shining your sword to reveal the direction you needed to go, so I spent the entire damn game riding around a blank map searching for the colossi.. I had a little hand drawn map with things like "sand temple, maybe later?" Written on it, because id found the arena for the 10th Colossus before even finding the 2nd.. it turned the playthrough into about an 150 hour experience and I actually really enjoyed it 😂😂 I also didn't realise you could kill lizards and pick fruit so every colossi was done with base stats.. couldn't believe it when I did my second playthrough at 15 years old and realised.. It's the weirdest gaming experience I've ever had due to me being super dumb and not paying attention, but also one of my favourites, haha
I've watched many gamers start live streams of this game & they skipped the opening, so of course they didn't know what to do. It reminds me of your situation when you first played. lol
@@timmadone8930 interesting haha, I wonder how many of them went the whole game without their chat going within 5 minutes "hey you dumbass hold circle to see where to go" xD I have to say it was pretty wild going the whole game like that, the first time I held my sword in the air was to open the door to the last colossus and that's because I stood on the plinth and pressed every button hahaha
@@joeleary3014 Actually most of the people I've seen do this just quit the game after 5 or 10 minutes & call it trash. Another thing I've witnessed more than once is players getting to the area of the first colossus but not figuring out you have to grab the vines to climb up. They try jumping & grabbing everywhere but the vines, & then they give up. The game is not difficult, but it does require having at least a few brain cells.
@@timmadone8930 unfortunately doesn't surprise me. Obviously wouldn't be possible nowadays with the internet in its current state, spoilers everywhere, UA-cam shorts, everyone knows every mechanic of a game within minutes.. but I tell you man, having my little hand drawn map folded up in the game case along with the disc, making little notes about things that looked like possible boss arenas that I might wanna go back and visit.. it was like no other game I've ever played or will ever play, but at the same time part of it felt like that's how it was *meant* to be played. I remember having entire 2-3 hour sessions around doing school homework where I was just riding around.. and I found nothing, I turned off the PS2, but that was okay. My characters story was riding around on his horse searching for colossi, and that's what I was doing, I loved it
@joeleary3014 I'm pretty sure I've searched every inch on the map to make sure I found every shrine, lizard, and fruit. I imagine you did the same, just out of necessity lol.
So glad you played this game. There are a lot of places that you can travel to in the world that you have missed. That includes a lot of really cool areas like the beach or a cave. There are 79 colectables to be found in the form of gold coins. You have already found some and can explore the open world and search for them. Also, you can do time attacks that give you special rewards for beating colossi in a certain time. You can also do hard mode or play the last guardian or ICO or... I am just so exited that you played this game. Thank you. I hope that you will keep playing this, but I know you have other games to play and things to do.
Also, if i remember correctly, you can get to the top of the tower as the boy if you collect all the lizards (have max stamina)? Can't remember that well after all these years, but i think i recall it being the most difficult climb in the game...
@@TheLegendOf1977 You can and have to for platinum. You can only do that with nearly maxed out stamina wich you will get after a couple of ng+'s. I don't think that even with all lizards, there is a way to reach it.
@@lightofthecolossus You can climb that area with Full stamina, there are fruits there that lower your health. At least in the PS2 version. If i remember correctly in the game demo at the time, there was a headless girl there as well
Not going to lie. This was an short but AMAZING journey. 1- Bosses design is awesome. 2- Bosses location is superbly designed. Gave me the idea of Cambodian and Thailand temples. Simply beautiful. 3- General landscape is breathtaking, specially the ones with the waterfalls. How they managed to do their animations is beyond me. Although it has a bittersweet ending, I'd say it's a 10/10 game.
Not true, I’ve played this dozens of times and it truly never gets old. Plus, all the secret items make it worth it. This game can be played indefinitely in my opinion
@@fenn__fenn honestly the impact of shadow of the colossus puts on you after completing it makes it perfect. You can play it over and over again but that first time you beat it will always be the best feeling.
I am old. I played this game in my 30’s on PS2 originally. The ending still brings a tear to my eye after all these years. The investment this work gives the player is something I haven’t come across often, if ever. Truly remarkable game, truly epic and truly legendary. Thank you for letting me live it again.
Im remeber playing this game as kid, it was first time a main character died for me, it broke me, when I played this game again I never finish the game and I was scared the main character is gonna die. Its really have sad ending.
If you think about it, Mono probably knows Agro if her and Wander were close enough for him to do all this for her. So her waking up and seeing Agro injured, with Wander nowhere in sight, was very poignant. Like, does she maybe have some idea of what he ended up doing for her?
i rewatched this ending crying. i played it on frigging PS2, im 39 years old now. Most heartbreaking plot in the videogame history you just cant replay this game without sadness for each collosi you kill.
Honestly, I think it would be poetic if you play ICO as your next Fumito Ueda game, which is available on the ps5 through PS+. I say this because ICO is the game that inspired Miyazaki to quit his job and start working at FromSoftware. So without ICO, we may never have had the Souls games. And without the souls games, this channel might not be what it is today. (But finish Armored Core 6 though lol)
Love that idea bro! Any idea on how I can get it on my PC perhaps an emulator? I'd love to play it with decent graphics although I'm aware that might not be possible lol I could get it on my PS2 it's just gonna be very og graphics. Also will do ;)
@@matiasgagoI’m pretty you can emulate the ps2 version on pc, but it would be the pure ps2 version. Maybe the remaster is just available to emulate now as well. Otherwise the game is on ps+ on the ps4/5 right now for like 10 bucks if you want to sub for a month if you don’t mind playing it on console. I highly recommend that game as well, even if you don’t want to stream it, I’d recommend it if you just want to play it off stream for yourself.
Yeah, no. I've played through this game multiple times on all three versions: PS2, PS3 and PS4, and the final boss is a long hard slog every time. 1.5h for the first time is pretty good, IMO.
@@DanielRisacher can confirm. I've run through this game more times than I can remember, and the cockiness and impatience ruins my run on the final colossus every time. I'll be on the head, the only place I need to damage, and will try to pull off some stupid physics-based jump stab and end up back at the waist
Interesting to know that is a speed run strat since that was the only way I found back in the day to get to the top of the colossus. Those old tv screens were dark man, I couldn't see the weak point on the shoulder lol, or maybe bc I was too angry for thinking Agro was dead and didn't realize how it was properly done.
Ya I legit teared up when Agro fell, and I’ve beaten this game like 5-6 times. It always gets me. What’s special about it is how they make you develop a bond with her in her controls, she doesn’t control like a Zelda horse that listens to your every input, she has a mind of her own. And in that they really make you develop and wordless relationship with her. Love this game so much! One of the greatest puzzle platformers of all time! Mati, you should really play Ico and Last Guardian next, the two games that came before and after respectively, both masterpieces!
Same brother. I was blown away back in the day bc you really feel that Agro is a whole being. Also it's really rewarding to platinum this game, get all the special items and specially the sword.
A bag of emotions - a 10/10 episode in the 10/10 game! I feel like tearing down the bridge is the best gift those "godly" people could give us - we can just live on in this beautiful, beautiful world happily ever after. It's for sure a happy ending to me. Also, I checked the trophy list after "finishing" the game and realized that there's so much the game still has to offer - belts & whistles perhaps, but nonetheless worth further exploring. I love what you said in the end and will be thrilled to tag along and "chase the feeling" with you! By the way, the psychological assessment is probably that you're adorable.
I’m surprised you didn’t try spam-jumping during the ending sequence! If you didn’t know; you can actually make it pretty close to Mono (the girl) by doing this. However, the developers sadly put a hard barrier before you can even reach her. You should definitely look into it. Thanks for another great let’s play, Mati. ❤
43:48 oof… I loved your playthrough of this game, and i'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did. I also want to add in case you didn't notice: That the last colossus (Malus [el malo xd]) is all the way to the south center of the map, looking north. He also can't move around, right? That means that each time you killed a colossus and those beams that shoot to the skies appeared, Malus saw them. He knows you've been killing his brethren, and he knows that after you've killed them all, he is next. That's why as soon as the fight starts, he starts blasting at you immediatly: HE'S PISSED Looking forward to whatever game's next! You're pretty much my "comfort channel" :D
1:02:40 to 1:02:48 "that's how we make it from the hand to the shoulder" I was so happy when you finally got that. Not that you hadn't found a workaround already. It was fun to watch someone go through this journey for their first time. I'll be keeping an eye out for a Last Guardian and Ico series for sure. As for looking for a video to help you with lore there is not really any video that could properly help for this game as the developers intentionally left so much open to interpretation. Anyone trying to present things to you as anything but their interpretation are just straight up lying. You're really only given just enough information to come up with several questions at the start and more later but the game never once gives you a concrete answer to any of them. Is Dormin good or evil? Maybe. Is Wander doing the right thing? Maybe. Is Emon trustworthy? Maybe. Throughout the whole game we are given zero context for anything. What was Wander's relationship to Mono? We don't know. Did Mono truly have a cursed fate? We don't know. In fact we're not even told who said Mono had a cursed fate, or what that fate was, only that she was sacrificed because of it. Having been resurrected is Mono now free of that cursed fate or doomed to live it out? What was Emon's relationship with Wander? Did Dormin use Wander? Did the Colossi have true sentience? The closest any question really gets to a concrete answer is a maybe... except for one. Is Agro the best horse? Yes.
I love this game... I played this game on PS2, and my todler daughter would watch... Last summer, when she turned 18, she beat this version while I watched... It was an emotional thing for her...
If you're interested, this game is actually a prequel to another game made by the same developers called Ico, if you wanna continue this kind of game (I highly recommend it). It originally came out on the PS2, but got an HD remake for the PS3. Also, if you are wanting to better u derstand the ending of the game, then I recommend a video by The Sunn Brothers that is simply called "Shadow of The Colossus Story & Lore Explained. Though, if you are looking for a more combat oriented title, then Ghost of Tsushima is one I think you'd find interesting (I also highly recommended this one too). Though, whatever game you play next, I know is gonna be great. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we are excited for the next game you play. I personally have really enjoyed the growth that both Mati and this community has done. We've all come a long way, I suppose. It was genuinely great to see so many people invested in this short little adventure. I hope we get to see more of that in the future. Thank you for you're time.
@@ChaosRupture phew.. really ghost of tsushima? it's literally an achievement hunt and has all the 0815 Ubisoft common tropes for map completion and no interesting mechanics or at least doesn't try to teach you to use the given mechanics in different ways, like Shadow of the Colossus did (Also I know it's not made by Ubisoft, they still use the Ubisoft formula). I know it's a beautiful game, the graphics really help the game and if you only focus on the Story it's not so much of a hassle and has okay pacing, but the moment you decide to dabble into Sidequest stuff it literally becomes a chore, because you end up doing the same stuff 200 times. Ghost of Tsushima felt like a hassle even before finishing Act 1, due to too many symbols on the map. I first wanted to complete every little sidequest stuff you could do on the first Part of the Island, before going to enter Act2 and about halfway through I had enough and just rushed towards act2, saw many more symbols upon entering Act 2 and decided to rush the whole story without doing any sidequest sht ever again, because it's just too much. Maybe you liked it, maybe he will like it as well, but it's 100% not gonna come close or give him the same type of feel Shadow of the Colossus did, based on what he liked about SotC I'd much rather recommend him games like Nier Automata/Replicant, Hollow Knight would be insanely good or Journey (though that is probably a bit too short) simply put other games with strong Art direction. If you have any games in mind that are similar in Art direction to SotC and the games I mentioned pls send em over to me as well btw haha Also just wanted to add at the end I don't think Ghost of Tsushima is a bad game at all. If you focus on Story it's actually a pretty great game, he just asked for games similar to SotC and I don't think it is similar at all.
I found your channel through this series and I gotta say I LOVED IT. The pace you got with editting, leaving only relevant, non-repetitive comments was perfect. You're a very entertaining youtuber. Hope you get this as a full-time job so we can se more of you. You deserve it. I'm a huge fan of this game and I gotta say I got a little jealous of your first experience. I was a little boy when I played this back in the ps2 and the older brother of a friend spoiled some colossi for me. Along with the whole ending. I wanna murder him nowadays hahaha
That ending was bonkers. Wander becoming a child with horns and the girl picking him up and all the animals coming around them, it was heart breaking and heart warming at the same time.
I can explain the baby but it could count as spoilers so view as you will. The baby is Wanda or Wander(the main guy) reincarnated almost, that's why it had the horns you gain at the end where Dormin(the spirit that speaks through the roof hole) takes over your body after you've gathered all 16 pieces of him. The horned child will be more significant in Ico/the last guardian so i'll leave you with that.
Love the wholesome reaction to a PS2 classic. One of my faves, truly underrated game. Subbed, and looking forward to your reaction of The Last Guardian and Ico. Once you get through both there are some interesting speculatory vids as how they all tie which I'd suggest you watch until you get through them all :D
What an amazing ending to an awesome game! Thank you for letting me experience another game i never got a chance to play through your time and awesomeness. Much love to you, brother!!!
10/10 says Mati went back just to explore the land and nothing else. If you can find a copy for the ps2 find it and play it, see the difference graphics wise. A lot of games back then were linear so when I played this game it blew my mind with how vast everything was.
Such a lovely playthrough, thank you! I enjoy relaxing after work watching some good vibe LPs (playthroughs or whichever name kids call em these days!) and your SotC series was amazingly fun and relaxing to watch
58:50 Wow I did not expect that to work. I’ve played this game a lot and I’ve never tried just leaping to its chest like that before, and then you go back to the hand! Not realising you could have just gone to the weak point on the head and spare yourself a lot of frustration and pain. I love that you worked out that you were supposed to shoot the shoulder with the bow on the run back. You should give Ico ago at some point, it is very relevant to Wanda becoming a horned baby. It’s old (2002) but it influenced so many games thanks to one simple but effective game mechanic, and then play The Last Guardian for the latest from these developers. Ico can be found on the PS store but has to be streamed through PSplus. Oh Also in that end credit sequence you are still in control of Wanda even as a baby. If you press any of the buttons he squirms and cries.
Happy for you that you got to experience this in your life. I have witnessed this ending probably close to 10 times at multiple parts of my life and it calls on different emotions and pain every time. After living long enough and losing loved ones forever this ending feels completely different indeed.
Seeing Agro fall into the abyss as an 8-year-old playing on the PS2 in my living room was the first time I experienced grief. She was our only companion and faithful friend in this surreal adventure. I spent hours with her because I simply enjoyed riding across the plains and exploring the landscape. Sometimes, Agro would drink water from small ponds where there were big turtles; she felt like a truly alive animal, especially because of the way she is controlled. Sometimes she wouldn't respond to commands or wouldn't move as I wanted. After seeing her fall, my tears prevented me from continuing to play. I ran to my bed to cry uncontrollably. My pain turned into absolute hatred, and I just wanted revenge and to kill that damned colossus, but my anger didn't let me overcome the challenges of climbing up to its head. It was also hard for me to spot the weak point on its shoulder due to my old TV, so I just tried jumping like Mati did in his first attempt, which is extremely difficult because of the timing. I had to leave it for that day; I was broken. I could only defeat it weeks later with a clearer mind. Contrary to what many say, this game has no sequel or prequel, but it is part of the same universe as *Ico* and *The Last Guardian*. It tells the story of the origin of the horned children. These two games are also masterpieces on par with this one, and you would absolutely love them if you played them. I have no doubt about that. Please consider playing them in the future. Trico from *The Last Guardian* feels even more alive than Agro, and I would love to see you experience it.
Don’t worry lol, those last two bosses took me forever to figure the first time I played this. Thank you for playing this series. I’ve been having a really bad couple weeks but these videos help make my days go by smoother.
So happy to see you playing this an enjoying it as much as I always have! A few notes: 1) When you transform into Dormin, you can attack the priest and his guards, and, though I don't think you can kill any, you have several attacks you can do. 2)After the priest tosses the sword into the water, when Dormin's form has worn away and it just leaves the boy being pulled toward the seal, you can control the boy and try to escape the pull, though it's not possible in the end. 3) If you go up on the main bridge and run down it to get out of the area, you can get all the way to the gate in the outer wall, but wind blows you back away from it, so you can't leave the region. 4) Lastly, if your stamina is high enough, you can actually climb the outside of the castle and reach the top. There are fruits you can eat up there, but they actually damage you, rather than grant health. It's a neat place to explore, though. I've been playing this game since I had a PS2, and I've been a diehard fan. SotC is considered to be the spiritual successor to "Ico", another game by the same studio, which is similarly minimalist and puzzle based. The next game they put out was "The Last Guardian", which is definitely set in the same world, though they storylines don't seem to relate. It is an amazing game, as well! I hope it's one you decide to try soon.
Agro "dying" absolutely broke me when I first played this on PS2. My GF at the time had no interest in games but she had insisted on watching me play through this one from the second I started it up when I bought it (she loved the music, the feeling of loneliness, the tragedy of the story/colossi). She screamed when Agro fell and started crying after sitting there stunned. We were both a mess! Anyway, this was a great series to watch so thank you very much Mati
Hey man, just wanna say thanks for playing this game. Every year there's 1 or 2 decent playthroughs of the game and yours is the most fun I've had in years. Also, I hope you play through some of the old school Playstation games like the Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter and Uncharted series, if you haven't already. I think you might enjoy them.
Even though I knew everything that was going to happen I still choked up when you did. I knew Agro falling was going to hit like a truck and when she came back was going to be mind blowingly happy. When I first played it I was with my bro and we were working together to figure out the colossi and when Agro fell I had to bite my tongue to keep from tearing up because 'Men' you know ...lol... so it was kinda cool going through that again with you experiencing it for the first time. Definitely 10/10. An All Time Great.
Hey man, new subscriber here thanks to this game. I've been obsessed over it since PS2. I've played it so much back then i was able to get the parachute, harpoon, everything... even managed to enter the secret garden on the top of the castle with the poison fruits. There's definitely a lot of replayability there. Fun fact: in this remake version, there's a secret sword (sword of dormin) you can get, but it's pretty tough to get. You should check out the videos on youtube about the secrets. You're gonna love it even more.
Im never getting over this... I played SotC for the first time back in 2006 and I still get the chills and tears from the ending. Absolute masterpiece. I LOVE ART MAN ! kisses from Brasil! it was nice seeing you journey through this brilliant game.
This is so special and from Fumito Ueda along with Ico and the Last guardian , the man is a genius . Mati i think Marz sums these game up as well as the Last Guardian . Thanks for playing it mate. Pinned by Marz @Marzz 5 years ago Another Marz n' Fam Highlights from Hellblade, Shadow of the Colossus, Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian!
I had so much fun playing all of these games and each one really affected me in different ways. Hellblade brought me insight I didn't have before, Shadow of the Colossus showed me how powerful a story and environment can be without many words, Heavy Rain brought me so many laughs and adrenaline rushes and The Last Guardian touched my soul. Wouldn't take back playing any of them and i'm glad I got to share them all with you!
Watched your whole play through in one day. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I played it on the PS2 originally and bought the remaster for ps3 and the most recent remaster. Your reactions to the game are what made me enjoy the game again through someone else’s perspective. 😊
I played this game back when it first came out. It was the first time a game made me feel so many things at once. Realizing a game could be so much more than point and shoot things.
Finally got around to finish watching this series and what a journey! Always great when i get to chill and watch your videos and I'm glad you got to experience this masterpiece, Mati!
Congratulations on completing this game, my man. This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, so I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did (and thankfully didn't hurt your brain too much in the process XD)
the girl waking up is absolutely secondary to seeing Agro's limping ass show up; the relief i felt way back when is unparalleled. lmao you should consider playing the other two Team Ico games as well, although they aren't nearly as cinematically intense as this one is The Last Guardian is my favorite, but i'm a dog person so it goes without saying
The way I see it this is one of those stories in which the character's actions trying to prevent a profecy from happening are what actually lead to it coming to fruition The masked dude seems to be some sort of religious leader, and them in their superstition sacrificed the girl because "she had a cursed fate", which set this whole thing in motion and ended up with her having to live isolated in the forbidden lands. Therefore, if they stopped with the tomfoolery and didn't do anything to begin with, none of this cursed fate would've happened. Masked dude is the real villain to me Dormin is probably no saint either, but hey, at least they keep their side of the deal. Better than sacrificing people just because 🤷♂
I watched all this series with you. I played ahead and then watched how you did and reacted. The game is amazing. I still have the disc on ps2 version, it became quite rare. Such a beautiful game for its time too. Look up the secrets!!
a sweet little detail/Easter egg is that with max stamina (every single lizard in the game, or maybe you even need more from NG+ if it works like that I don't remember) you can actually climb a secret convoluted path that gets you to the garden you see in the credits, during the main game!
This series has been amazing. When the horse fell I and you were freaking out I seriously had to hold back tears. So glad you played this masterpiece. I'm sure you can see how influential it has been in so many ways to the Souls games. The storytelling is on another level. Hope you play the original one someday!
This is the game that taught me to ALWAYS watch the credits. I played it on PS2 back in the day and I was so blown away. Like you no words, I just sat there in amazement and wonder. BTW, you can climb the castle and get into the garden. It's not easy but it can be done.
Man, I loved seeing your reaction to the game. Mainly part of Agro. It's one of my favorite games, although I never played the remastered version. When my play 2 was still working I played it many times. They must have already told you, but if you eat fruits your life increases and if you cut the tails of white-tailed iguanas your grip increases. The iguanas are almost always on the altars and the fruits on the trees (there is one on the tree halfway to the first colossus.) If you liked this game you should try Ico. It is the first game that company made (Shadow is the second.)
Watching you play this masterpiece has been quite enjoyable and made me realize that we don't always remember the number of mistakes we make when trying to achieve a goal. Over time, we only remember how to do it, not how we tried and failed countless times, which is why I find it so fun to watch someone else play. Please consider playing *The Last Guardian* as well; it's an equally special and emotional experience, or even *Ico*. They are all of the same quality. By the way, an interesting fact you might have missed: when you become the incarnation of Dormin, you can shoot large energy blasts, jump, and strike, killing some of the humans who shoot arrows at you. However, the controls are incredibly slow, putting you in the perspective of the colossi that were killed by Wander.
The time trials alone are worth to replay for SotC. I can do up to the 10th in under an hour in the OG version which took a LOT of trial and error. Really glad you enjoyed the experience! As for other games to try, people already recommended Ghost of Tsushima, but do give NieR Replicant then NieR Automata a try (and don’t just do one ending, you have to do at least 5 to get the full experience especially in Automata since the first two endings are basically the tutorial!). If those are too long since they’re a JRPG, maybe dip your toes into Zelda, mainly Twilight Princess (you can emulate it on Dolphin with shaders and stuff if the original look is too brown). I think out of all of these, since you’re a fan of the Soulsborn games, Automata will be up your alley, its just more impactful if you play Replicant first which can be a hassle to do since the gameplay can be repetitive and you need to complete all the sidequests to get every ending. Automata isnt as demanding for the endings, but if you prefer not going through Replicant, you can play Automata on its own!
I love that fact that, considering that the birds flight is what initially faded into the players story and at the end it fades back into its perspective, the whole story was in view of that passing by bird. Maybe it was watching over the scene or the player, or just a simple observer! I had to go back and watch the beginning of the first episode and definitely seems to be the case
what a quick one, definition of short but sweet, just on another level, glad to see you enjoying other game series though ❤ I'm excited to see what comes next, have a good one mati!
This is one of my all time favorite games (the soundtrack alone is an all time video game great, alongside Ocarina of Time, Celeste, and Ori and the Blind Forest). Loved your playthrough and appreciate your love for video games in general. Subscribed! 👍🏽
Honestly the saddest part of this ending to me is the reveal that Agro survived her fall with a broken leg. If you know anything about horses, you’ll know that the idiom “healthy as a horse” is a total fabrication because while they’re definitely strong creatures, they’re incredibly frail. Most vets will tell you that a broken leg like that is essentially a death sentence to a horse, and it’s a painful one full of suffering. Knowing that Agro limped all the way back to the shrine like that fills me with so much respect for her determination, but it’s undercut knowing that she’s already dead. Of course this is a game where you constantly survive deadly falls and constant whiplash so strong your insides should be jelly, so what do I know? XD
It was 2007 when I first saw someone play this game at a friend's house. I was instantly captivated and I've played it on every console it came out on since. It's just such a unique masterpiece! The music has been a constant in my playlist of favorites. Fun fact: The track playing just when the screen fades to black and it says END is called Swift Horse. :') Oh and for a different kind of masterpiece, please play Journey sometime if you haven't already!
Cant believe we are already on the last part of this game! Also I ve Been here since your Bloodborne playthrough and you are closing in on 30K subs! Keep it up bro!
Stumbled upon these videos and am so glad to see this game still get love. Special place in my heart for this game...also you can now unlock special weapons like bomb arrows in a harder mode.
I watched the whole series in one evening while doing needlework. What a joy. I can’t wait for you to play Last of the Guardians. I want SO much to play it but the controls make me crazy and I never get far.
So the Baby at the end is ICO this is a prequel to that game so if you want more of this lore I suggest you play ICO before you play The Last Guardian to go in order.
Thank you all for all the support on this short series truly an experience I'll never forget ❤
We’re all supporting you man!
Hoping for Subnautica next. I think you will enjoy said game
I Hope you look up for Monster Hunter World. That would be so entertaining
@@SlimtalisOh that would be awesome, Mati please try Monster hunter World out.
You should play ico next since it’s a sequel to shadow of the colossus
You've got to admit, for a demon Colossus, Dormin did keep its side of the bargain.
He was a bro, too. He literally was trying to tell the guy the cost of doing what he wanted at the start
fellas, is Dormin actually a good guy?
@reliktim i do not know exactly. it can be either way. Also, to some, you can be a hero to others. That same person can be a villain.
@@reliktim idk if hes good but just necessary in the circle of life. but but he did keep his word to the wanderer. so thats something
Thank you.
This final is one of the strongest in all of video game pop culture.
Rest that trigger finger Mati! One of the most epic endings in video game history imo. Well done bud :)
Glenn the absolute legend at it again 😅 Dude thank you for the generosity I really appreciate it. Your opinion is correct haha all the best to you!
@@matiasgagothere is a secret/real ending... if you dont want to play it yourself, look it up:)
What an exellent playthrough Mati. A little fun fact: If you replay the the Game 2,5 times, your stamina grows so big you can climb the temple and you are able to visit the garden you saw in the credits and traverse the big bridge.
Never knew that! Cool.
Just make sure you keep using the same save file, otherwise it's like starting a new game from scratch.
@@ciro73 Thought the symbolism was that it restores your humanity.
You can shoot the lizard's tail and it wont kill the lizard. You can go back and get it again and again.
I had a little hand drawn map with things like "sand temple, maybe later?" Written on it, because id found the arena for the 10th Colossus before even finding the 2nd.. it turned the playthrough into about an 150 hour experience and I actually really enjoyed it 😂😂
I also didn't realise you could kill lizards and pick fruit so every colossi was done with base stats.. couldn't believe it when I did my second playthrough at 15 years old and realised..
If i remember correctly in the game demo at the time, there was a headless girl there as well
@@eduardocoutinho4171 I know. The fruits are there as well in the remake. You don't actually need full stamina. Almost full also works.
Shadow of the Colossus is a prequel to a game called ICO. The ending explains how a character in that game came to be
Ico next! It should have been played first. Makes the ending of SOTC unreal!
i think ICO and shadow characters are completely separated tbh
@@CrimsonRayne they are. The ones on shadow's ending are distant ancestors
@CrimsonRayne not COMPLETELY separated but pretty far apart, they are ancestors
@@evanmiller4502 I know. The wording of that comment is inaccurate but I get what he means
The Outer Wilds is the only other "you can only play this once" masterpiece that rises to this level. Definitely a must play.
"Outer Wilds" though, not to be confused with "The Outer Worlds"
Depressing bro I would not have handled that well as a kid lol
If you think about it, Mono probably knows Agro if her and Wander were close enough for him to do all this for her. So her waking up and seeing Agro injured, with Wander nowhere in sight, was very poignant.
Like, does she maybe have some idea of what he ended up doing for her?
She's his sister
@@antonius.martinus She's not her sister, no relation is confirmed, but for the tone of the game, is highly doubtful that they're siblings.
A woman's voice is heard on the screen after defeating Colossus.
This is her voice telling Wander not to destroy the Colossus.
What makes me wonder is how agro knows the Secret Garden and guides Mono there. Like... it's not her first time there?
i rewatched this ending crying. i played it on frigging PS2, im 39 years old now.
Most heartbreaking plot in the videogame history you just cant replay this game without sadness for each collosi you kill.
Same brother
Also will do ;)
@@matiasgago you can try RPCS3 to get the ps3 remaster, or the PCSX2 emulator for the ps2 version.

Otherwise the game is on ps+ on the ps4/5 right now for like 10 bucks if you want to sub for a month if you don’t mind playing it on console.
I highly recommend that game as well, even if you don’t want to stream it, I’d recommend it if you just want to play it off stream for yourself.

I was waiting for this 🤣
You didn't see mine, thankfully :D
Lol Mati unintentionally doing speed run strats on the last colossus to get to his head instead of shooting him in the shoulder had me weezing
What a ride, can't wait to see what you do next!!!!
Hard to follow this one up but I got a few things up my sleeve :D
Blasphemous1 and 2. Nioh 2 or the surge 2. Remnant from the ashes 2.
I gotta thank you for playing this game so passinately, brother... kinda made me relive the times when I experienced it myself.
Been waiting for this!!! Thank you for sharing this playthrough man. Let me get my snacks brb!!!
Only way to watch youtube is with snacks haha thank you for being here to share it with good sir
I played Shadow of the Colossus on my PS2 and in fact it is my favorite game ever!
Another amazing journey, Mati. As always, thanks for bringing us along with you.
Thank YOU for being here Emi!
Man not enough people have played this classic. It saddens me
43:48 oof…
I loved your playthrough of this game, and i'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did.
That's why as soon as the fight starts, he starts blasting at you immediatly: HE'S PISSED
Looking forward to whatever game's next!
Yes.
Watching Mati go through the five stages of grief in 20 minutes hits different 🤣
GGs. I love this game. It was fun to watch you experience it.
I love this game... I played this game on PS2, and my todler daughter would watch... Last summer, when she turned 18, she beat this version while I watched... It was an emotional thing for her...
incredibly he went through all the stages of grief in almost 2 minutes when Agro died. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
1:22:44 I played it on PS2 in 2006 and it did blow me away. I still have my PS2 copy with the cardboard case.
Same too, And still one of my favourite games of all time
Same.
I second the Ghost of Tsushima recommendation. No hurry but as long as it happens eventually i’m sure Mati would love it
@@ChaosRupture phew.. really ghost of tsushima? it's literally an achievement hunt and has all the 0815 Ubisoft common tropes for map completion and no interesting mechanics or at least doesn't try to teach you to use the given mechanics in different ways, like Shadow of the Colossus did (Also I know it's not made by Ubisoft, they still use the Ubisoft formula).
Maybe you liked it, maybe he will like it as well, but it's 100% not gonna come close or give him the same type of feel Shadow of the Colossus did, based on what he liked about SotC
I'd much rather recommend him games like Nier Automata/Replicant, Hollow Knight would be insanely good or Journey (though that is probably a bit too short) simply put other games with strong Art direction. If you have any games in mind that are similar in Art direction to SotC and the games I mentioned pls send em over to me as well btw haha
Also just wanted to add at the end I don't think Ghost of Tsushima is a bad game at all.
Another great episode keep them coming
Appreciate the dono brotha so much more coming this year
That ending was bonkers.
I played this SotC on ps2 back as a teen. Magic. Wanted to witness someone with heart experience the remake, thank you for the playthrough dude. ❤
You will be happy to know my run on that final boss took way longer than you did.
This was so good I put like 6 ppl on to your video at work watching this on them long drives was epic
So happy to see you playing this an enjoying it as much as I always have!
A few notes:
1) When you transform into Dormin, you can attack the priest and his guards, and, though I don't think you can kill any, you have several attacks you can do.
Played the original game on PS2 and I got say, the cut scenes still hit hard to this day
Agro "dying" absolutely broke me when I first played this on PS2.
This play through was tons of fun but very, very sad and full of wonders. Thank you for bringing us this journey, man! Have an awesome evening.
Great series! One of my all-time favorite games.
Given your love for a good soundtrack, you _have_ to do a Nier:Automata playthrough at some point

Another Marz n' Fam Highlights from Hellblade, Shadow of the Colossus, Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian!
Realizing a game could be so much more than point and shoot things.
this is the first of your content ive seen and honestly couldnt imagine a better ride than shadow of the colossus, awesome work dude
Many games are called masterpieces. Very few of them actually deserve that title like Shadow of the Colossus does.
Finally got around to finish watching this series and what a journey! Always great when i get to chill and watch your videos and I'm glad you got to experience this masterpiece, Mati!
She later became a fire keeper
Hahahaha
@@matiasgagoAshen one, hearest thou my voice still?
Happy to see that you enjoyed the game im excited to see what you play next
Nothing but more masterpieces coming :D
This has been such a blast, was really fun to watch :))
I highly recommend the PS3 HD versions of Ico and SOTC by Bluepoint as well!!
Congratulations on completing this game, my man. This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, so I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did (and thankfully didn't hurt your brain too much in the process XD)
the girl waking up is absolutely secondary to seeing Agro's limping ass show up; the relief i felt way back when is unparalleled. lmao
you should consider playing the other two Team Ico games as well, although they aren't nearly as cinematically intense as this one is
The Last Guardian is my favorite, but i'm a dog person so it goes without saying
This ending makes me cry everytime! 😢
Thanks for your genuine reaction to this perfection of a game.
The way I see it this is one of those stories in which the character's actions trying to prevent a profecy from happening are what actually lead to it coming to fruition
The masked dude seems to be some sort of religious leader, and them in their superstition sacrificed the girl because "she had a cursed fate", which set this whole thing in motion and ended up with her having to live isolated in the forbidden lands.
Therefore, if they stopped with the tomfoolery and didn't do anything to begin with, none of this cursed fate would've happened. Masked dude is the real villain to me
Dormin is probably no saint either, but hey, at least they keep their side of the deal. Better than sacrificing people just because 🤷♂
I watched all this series with you. I played ahead and then watched how you did and reacted. The game is amazing. I still have the disc on ps2 version, it became quite rare. Such a beautiful game for its time too. Look up the secrets!!
Fun watching you play this, brought back a load of memories.
a sweet little detail/Easter egg is that with max stamina (every single lizard in the game, or maybe you even need more from NG+ if it works like that I don't remember) you can actually climb a secret convoluted path that gets you to the garden you see in the credits, during the main game!
This game is just beautiful and it makes me happy to see that another person enjoyed the journey
The iguanas are almost always on the altars and the fruits on the trees (there is one on the tree halfway to the first colossus.)
If you liked this game you should try Ico.
I feel you man.. the ending made me crying like a baby.. got the plat 2 years ago.. since then, the music has become my phone tone💔❤️
what a quick one, definition of short but sweet, just on another level, glad to see you enjoying other game series though ❤ I'm excited to see what comes next, have a good one mati!
Oh and for a different kind of masterpiece, please play Journey sometime if you haven't already!
When he said towards the beginning that he was fully prepared for Wander to die, I was just smiling cause I knew he wasn't ready for Agro.
I remember fighting for so long not to get sucked into the light at the end. You can fight back and hold on to things. But Nothing you can do.
I've played this game about 10 times now, and seen at least 20 people play it. Agro's fall hits the same EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Another person to the shadow of the collosus crew. Where it takes you to a different world
Thank you for allowing me to relive the wonder of discovering this game! Came for nostalgia stayed for the player, awesome style man 💜
Ngl the politest rage quit on that second to last vital stab. I felt that. ✊

Glad you fully enjoyed it👍👍 one of my favorite games on the PS2
