    Thank you Art and Bri for documenting this tragedy in such a respectful way. I have seen too many people going around shoving cameras in people's faces when it is clearly not a good time. And thank you for doing so much to help your community but please remember to take care of yourselves mentally. Praying for your family and everyone affected by this disaster 💜

    Be careful, PTSD can take a while to sink in.
    You can get seconddary PTSD if you are doing rescue work. You will take it in your pores.

      Thank you so much for your reports and taking us to the farm with you (and yes, that old barn is leaning more, but dang, isn't it an amazing piece of work!).
      Thank you for being respectful, and thank you for listening, and thank you for you care, and for remembering to take of yourselves, and for stepping back when you need too. Those who don't understand, won't, so just keep contrbuting what you are able to. And give Shep a good scratch on the head from me!

    • @susancraft7749
      @susancraft7749 День тому +1

      @@FadedRoseStoriesRussia why is it second hand if the person rescueing gets ptsd. Second hand means the person the resurrection tells a story to gets it….. which they can’t. It’s not a disease. It’s being traumatized by an experience you HAD

    • @FadedRoseStoriesRussia
      @FadedRoseStoriesRussia День тому

      @@susancraft7749 The phrase "second-hand PTSD" might not be the most precise way to describe what can happen in rescue or emergency work, but there's a real concept at play here, even if the terminology gets a little fuzzy. I should have said SECONDARY Traumatic stress. I edited it to be precise.
      Clarifying
      There is a concept called vicarious trauma or secondary traumatic stress. This happens when someone, like a rescue worker or a therapist, takes on the emotional weight of others' trauma. It isn’t from someone telling them about it-it’s from being immersed in others' suffering, often repeatedly. This can absolutely affect mental health and feel like PTSD, even if it's not quite the same as having the original traumatic experience.
      Why This Misunderstanding Happens:
      The term “second-hand” can imply that trauma isn’t directly experienced, which might make it sound less "real." So you are right to correct that.
      However, vicarious trauma is very real. Rescue workers absorb the suffering they see-it seeps into them, almost literally, as I said, “taking it in through their pores.”
      Direct trauma from participating in or witnessing distressing situations can lead to PTSD, while secondary trauma can happen from exposure to others’ traumatic stories or suffering. Both are valid and serious, though the mechanisms are different.

    • @caitlin6983
      @caitlin6983 4 години тому

      Maybe it’s more despair than PTSD, I don’t know, I’m not an expert in this; but I know that simply for “everyday mental health”-especially in this toxic world we live in that is constantly trying to tear us down and make us give up, to make us heart-sick-the “HALT” thing is golden. It’s hard enough to “love well” on a “normal” day and nigh near impossible if you let yourself go too long without taking stock of your own needs. Lucky for those that belong to Him, Jesus cares for us ❤

    Im in Greenville SC and you can drop off supplies between 9 am and 5 pm at the backside of the downtown Greenville airport off S Pleasantburg road at 21 Airport Road Extension in your GPS. Supplies are being flown up into NC. Thousands of volunteers are at this location doing rapid vehicle unloads and the line moves fast. Consider sending up HEALTHY foods like canned tuna, salmon, meats, veggies, and sugar free fruit. There are diabetics in need also. These people don't need to be eating crackers and pastries - nutrition matters in times of great stress. Please don't forget the equipment these guys need like saw oil, chainsaws, and gas! We have are large family and had to deal with the stress of how to deal with no electricity, no water, but thankfully we figured out how to make do with the bottled water and camp stove. Hearing that you're taking time to help you community when you're also struggling is the best way to deal with the loss. It helped us get through our much less devastating circumstances. Thank you for the updates. I am so proud of you and your wife; your what Americans are about. I glad you Mom & Dad were ok. You are my kind of American, love your story about yesterday, joining those other men and get out there and helping those who needed some help to continue working to get back on their feet. So much to be done. We pray for all the people and the ones who lost their live, may they RIP. I am 84 in good health and retired after 30 years at 55 and move to the mountain also 6,400, had 601” of snow last. I was a Police Volunteer Officer for 16 year with 7,000 plus hours, all field work (outside) loved helping other people. Be safe and well.

    Hey! Make sure you're taking care of yourself, too. It's easy to over exhaust yourself and run yourself ragged, especially when you're in a situation where you are able to help people.

    I’m so thankful your farm was spared! I believe you were blessed for a reason! I can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do! Praying for you all. Art, you are correct, people need to talk about what they’ve been through, and the things they’ve seen. It’s part of the healing process. My dad was a police officer, and he saw and experienced some horrific things. He had to talk about it to maintain his sanity. It’s important to release those kinds of things, and not keep them bottled up.

    Thank you both for keeping us informed as to what is going on in your area and what is needed! We, here in the midwest, want to help, but don't know where to start, how to help. We have been donating to Samaritans Purse b/c we know that the supplies will be distributed to places and people that need them. We deal with tornadoes here and yes, we have had friends and family at one time or another that have had everything they own just blown apart, but not on this scale. I can't begin to imagine. We have gone on vacations in your area many many times, such beauty out there. We were just in Asheville this last early summer. My heart breaks for all of you. We are praying for everyone and thank you for updating us with your videos. May God Bless you all.

    Thank you for ALL you are doing--and you are helping meet basic human needs, which EVERYONE has! Feeding peoples bellies, listening to them, and helping them refill their souls are priorities! It is also important to respect their privacy, and recognize they are experiencing shock and grief.
    I am near Raleigh, and we are filling truckloads with food, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, unopened over the counter medications (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, antihistamine, decongestant, cough medicine, Pepto-Bismol, antacids, antidiarrheals, etc.), basic demolition and construction tools, NEW socks and NEW underwear (for all ages), and more. People tried to donate bags of used clothing, but the NC Department of Disaster Recovery is discouraging that right now because there are no warehouses for storage--and sometimes donated clothes are not clean and in good condition.
    You are doing a wonderful job of reaching out to others! Thank you!
