hey guys! I get so many questions relating to money - how I save, budget, how I moved out, etc. so today I thought I would give some of my best tips on how I saved my money while I was in high school! Let me know if you want to see any more videos like this!

Also if you want to buy something, see the money as time (if you get 10$ per work-hour and you want to buy a new pair of shoes, ask yourself if those shoes are worth 10 hours of your valuable and important time...)
i automaticaly started thinking like that and now i spend so much less money.
I spent $50 on food at the movies and immediately after I finished it I was like wow that was 4 hours of work gone in 10 minutes and now all I do is save as I’m saving up for a car
10 dollars?!?! Im 15 and earn 5 euros per hour and that is A LOT in my country. Usually its 4.50 euros or even 4 euros which may not seem like a huge diffenerence but is in a week.

Saving money is one of my only skills. Some of my tips are think of money as 'points' I treat my bank account like a game and try and get as many points as I can. Also not having a social life helps as well.

Saving money sounds really exciting actually. My concern is if I can handle work during school.
You can if you only work on saturdays. Trust me, when I was a 15-year old I worked at a drugstore on thursday and friday. It absolutely crushed my sleep schedule and I found myself always rushing my homework just to get to work in time. My grades were dropping due to exhaustion and stress. When I started working on saturdays however, I didn’t have to worry about anything and had all the time in the world to do school stuff on sunday + getting sleep.
Remember that you are still a kid and are developin. Labor after school as a child can negatively impact your brain and increase stress levels. Be thoughtful of your body.
I worked 20+hours a week in high school and still managed A’s and a social life ☺️ you make time for what resonates with you! There’s more hours in a day than we utilise that’s for sure.
I can only work in the summer time
nevaeh I worked 36 hours while in school and I know this sounds crazy but I got mostly A’s in school when I started working then I ever did when I didn’t work. It did fuck up my sleep schedule a bit but with time I started to do things faster and smarter. Plus I when I didn’t work I would even stay all nighter by choice and make my homework very late. Might as well work. But that’s what worked for me.

Emma you really should just do it. Im also a shy person and was even shyer when i was younger. But it has bettered over time by just putting myself in situations that i know will make me feel uncomfortable. Applying for a job was one. But guess what I applied last august for my very first job ever, made a good amount of money, met this girl that is now one of best friends and Im so much more confident! Please also do this or else you will regret it later x

I need Help you can always get like a small job and then only work on weekends. That’s what I did I slowly worked on Saturday during the school year so that I could focus my attention on school and then in summer I worked more.
When you have strict parents that won't let you get a job even though you would keep your grades up and you have a 99% acceptance rate to a nearby university so you should be able to get a job because I thought ahead and even if my GPA goes a little bit down I'll still have such a super high chance to get into that university. My parents don't understand.
WishFromAfar maybe just apply without them knowing. It sounds stupid but maybe if they see that you are serious about it and that you are capable of getting a job by yourself then they will go easier on you.

yess I love this video and it was very helpful !! A few extra tips I found out:
1. For your birthday ask for things that could benefit you in the future (I.e movie gift cards so you don’t have to spend your own money on the movies)
2. Have a set amount in your account that you DO NOT SPEND! For emergencies! (Kinda like savings)
3. Use as many coupons/uni/student discounts as possible every dollar saved counts
4. Try not to waste as much money on eating out, this can be as simple as downsizing from a large drink to a small or sharing a meal with a friend
The fourth tipp is one of the very bessst saving tips. It helped me so so much🙏dont spent your money at food outside your house, if you can eat there too!

Could you do a video on getting a part time job? As a teen with anxiety who wants to get a job and be more independent, it would be great if I could gain more confidence from hearing others talking about getting a job. (especially in Australia as people always talk about jobs and stuff in other countries)
I also have anxiety, but I'm on my third job and never struggled to get one! What helps for me is when I go to interviews, I fake it till I make it. Even though I'm crying inside I just kind of pretend that I'm confident and outgoing (like I'll sit there repeating "I am confident I am confident" in my head) and it helps so much! It also helps me a lot to know that if I am really awkward or don't get the job, I never have to see that person ever again in my life, so it doesn't matter if I embarrass myself. And if you do see them again (i.e get hired) that means they like you and you don't have to worry!
I have anxiety, I’ve had four jobs and I’m 18. Try and find jobs that you are genuinely interested in or know people there so you feel more at ease during the hiring process. If you aren’t getting hired anywhere, try going in and handing them a paper copy of your resume even if the application is online, it will help a lot and you can meet your future boss in advance. And I don’t really recommend jobs in restaurants or as a cashier, or other things you will constantly have to talk to people if you are bothered by that. If you have panic disorder/panic attacks anything fast paced is not the best, because I’ve been in situations where I’m about to have a panic attack and it puts a lot of pressure on, when everyone is constantly yelling at you. The best advice I have is to work jobs that have a set time limit/seasonal jobs so if you hate it or can’t handle it, it will end soon and it takes a lot of pressure off you to be perfect. For example, work at a haunted house at Halloween, work at the park district or country club in the summer. It can make even the most anxiety inducing jobs bearable.
Katie Rielly cleaning. A few hours each night, alone listening to music while you mop floors. It can get boring but you literally don’t have to talk to people after you know where you need to clean. It’s just you and your cleaning stuff
Okay I got my first job when I was 15 and I too have anxiety. I really didn’t want to but my parents made me. That was probably one of the best decisions because getting a job sounded like the scariest thing in the world to me, but trust me it’s not bad. I worked in fast food and all the people were super nice to me considering I had literally no experience. I say just do it. Because if you wait until you don’t have anxiety, then you’ll probably waiting forever bc I doubt that’s going away anytime soon. Better to do it now than later, plus for me it’s helped with coping w my anxiety and kinda allowed me to gain experience. Idk just fake it till you make it honestly. That’s what I did and it worked for me :)

I’m 12 and made a business in school where I buy 1$ lipglosses and sell them for 4$ , I’ve made 500$ so far . That’s only last month all together right now I have 700$

Another Saving Tip, example if you get paid $115 per week save the $100 and spend $15. It enables you to spend something and save heaps at the same time 💕

My parents take 75% of my cut so I’m generally only get about 30 bucks each week to save for a dirtbike and other expenses
I’m 15, I really want to get a job but I live in France, so you can’t really work when you’re under 18 here (sometimes they can hire you when you’re 16, but still pretty rare, and literally nobody in my high school has a job so..) but yeah thanks for these tips anyway :)
I agree in France its so difficult because apparently its 16 but no one will hire you especially because you’re under their responsibility and you can’t touch any money
You can do some holidays jobs at the age of 17 but you need a diploma which is pretty expensive so the money that you just earned will just be to pay it
Moreover I’m in high school and I work until 6pm everyday but the Wednesday (I work until 3pm) and I also work on Saturday morning
So I clearly don’t even have time to do sports since my high school is 1 hour away (I live in Paris but I wanted to learn italian so I had to go to one pretty far)

When I was 14 I started working at a vet clinic and now 15 I’m continuing. It’s great for the experience and meeting new people and getting paid for it. I only work during summer when I’m off school

It is so awesome to see the hustle! Most middle aged adults never save enough to do what they want with their lives. Keep up the videos!
When I was in high school from grade 9 I paid my own school fees, bought all of my own uniforms, rent, food, utility bills (like electricity), 100hours of driving lessons so I could get a license etc, every menstrual product, every school excursion, my own school photos etc lol. I would have loved to have saved thousands but when you don’t have parents and still want to graduate high school that’s not reality. It’s funny that we live in the same city and have had polar opposite lives. The point of this comment is to let those who are in a similar situation watching this thinking how know you don’t have to feel bad for not having savings. You are surviving. You are doing what most don’t do until they’re 18-20. You don’t have a huge bank account but you have priceless life experience that the kids with bank accounts will never have. You’ve felt hunger, fear and you have street smarts. You can’t run to mum and dad to pick up the pieces. You may be “disadvantaged” but it’s such an advantage even when it feels like punishment ❤️❤️❤️

this video was really helpful as I'm 16 years old and just recently got my first job and I'm working on saving my money
TOTALLY AGREE!!!! I started working when I was 2 months shy of 14 and NEVER regret it! Getting a job at a young age sets you up for a good run of employment in the future. To be able to tell future employers that you kept a job throughout high school shows that you're responsible, trustworthy and have excellent time management skills. It also made me work harder as a student because I understood that I didnt want to work in retail my whole life!!! (not that thats a bad thing, but it wasnt for me!).
Personally, I took advantage of the fact that when I lived at home, my bills were minimal. Apart from my phone bill and car expenses, I wasn't paying for rent, school fees, utilities etc, so I took full advantage of having such a high % of my pay being disposable and SAVED- in a high interest account. Today I'm 22 and unlike my peers who wouldn't dream of entering the Sydney property market until their 30's, this is a reality I can look into now.
To all teens out there- GET A JOB! You'll never regret it!
Good on you!!!! Having those goals so young is a fantastic trait to have! I actually found tahtbit nade me do better in school! It forced me to be more productive because I had less time on my hands. It also created a bit more work-life- study balance and as I said it made me work harder in school because I knew I needed to get a good mark to get out of working in a retail job.
I used to work 15ish hours a week during the school term and still got a 99.8 ATAR in 2014. Now in medicine :)
Perhaps you could start working just a few hours a week and let your dad know that you want to show him that you can still do well in school and have a job?
Way to go for it and get a job! Most 14 year olds don't have the initiative to go out and get a job. I bet that served you so well you're whole life!

I started working with my uncle since I was like 12 and by the time that I've been working here I don't regret it because you know it feels good that after a long time working you get money and you can buy literallly whatever you want

In my country, you can't work and get money until you have 16 years... If you are younger you can only volunteer...
Later edit: Thank you so much for your answers! I was wrong when I said that you can only volunteer. Legally you can volunteer only at 16, but I started volunteering (even if i'm 13) with a paper that says that I can participate at the activities that other volunteers participate. That paper was signed by my parents

I started working a year ago at a little under 16 years old and I’ve already saved about 6000 on minimum wage. (I know that’s not a lot, but considering I initially had nothing, it’s pretty good.) So don’t let your age stop you!

I definitely agree with her when I was 14 I got a job working 7 days a week 11 hours a day I was homeschooled so I did my school at night and in 2 years I was able to save over 45 thousand I am 18 now and I am vary proud of all the money I have saved and I was raised in a family that was not vary wealthy one tip for everybody... get in the mindset of being exited to c your bank account getting higher

I’m fifteen and currently working my third job (i haven’t been fired from any). I was working two of them for about 4 months. My parents obviously help but don’t pay for anything other than stuff like toothpaste and my phone bill. I’ve bought some exciting things over the last few years, like an iPad Pro, fish tank, a shopping spree ($350- I didn’t have any that fit me nicely), a phone, and I’ve redone my room twice. It’s really annoying for me because I go to an expensive school so most of the kids are rich and their parents have bought them all this and so much more. I’m currently saving up for a Certificate lll in child studies and a bachelor of primary education, although I find it super discouraging that my peers won’t have to pay for that and won’t be struggling if they go to uni. Some of them have jobs but have no reason to save so they spend it on further luxuries like branded clothes and the latest iPhone. I know I rambled, but what I’m trying to ask is some advice on not falling behind on the social ladder, while also saving up the money I need for uni and a car or whatever (I plan on commuting but can ride the bus most of the way). Anyone?

Love this! I have only recently begun gaining control of my money again. I'm in my first year of uni and my campus is located in the heart of Sydney, so I found myself spending lots of money on lunches and materialistic item I really didn't need. But, with semester two approaching I'm hoping that I can stick to my strict savings plan and not spend money on random stuff i don't need 🙏🏻. Btw, I love your videos, you are such an inspiration ❤️

how do you divide up what goes into savings, bills, spendings ?
Everything you said was sooo helpful but one thing that you said I didn’t exactly agree on, which was to always have the mindset that you don’t have a lot of money. This is because, if you have the mindset that you don’t have a lot of money, then that’s all you are going to attract, but if you have the mindset or attitude that you have an abundance of money, then you are going to attract an increase in the amount of money that you earn and receive. Obviously you can still have a limit on the amount of money you spend each week, but never tell yourself that you don’t have much money, because then you will always not have much. This all has to do with the Law of Attraction btw☺️
i’m 13 years old and i babysit everyday! i so far have bought an apple watch and A BUNCH OF CLOTHES. i’m currently trying to save up for a macbook i need $300 more dollars my tip for you is to ask your self before yo buy something: will you use this object a lot, do you need it, is it worth it!

I did the same as you, an account that i never touches, and another account for daily lifestyle or needs. Couldn't exactly find jobs before i'm out of school, but i've tried to save from my pocket money- they weren't much, but they certainly is something rather than none at all.
And because my country isn't dollar based, i found having dollars / euros (or any money on other currency which worth more than our hometown in general) would help.
If you planned on leaving to that certain country, you'll have money prepared for your trip. Or if you're to keep it over the years, the rate will change (possibly rise) over the years, and it could be quite an investment!

i'm pretty sure in my country u can't even get a part time job (legally) until you're 16 but even then that's kinda hard so like tf do i do for the next 2 years

We had a speaker in NHS talking about study abroad that told us to put a sticky note around our cards with our goals on it so we were reminded every time we went to spend something instead of just thinking about it bc it was a physical reminder that made it impossible to forget.

I used to save half my pay check when I was in the uk before moving out here to Australia. I’m really struggling to find a job and I’m applying for job after job with no success at all and it’s killing me. I’ve been here for nearly a year and I feel guilty for my parents having to support me because I don’t have the money to support myself, and I’m so eager to support myself. I’m 18 & am trying to hard to get a job! I really admire you & see you as a role model for how to be wise financially and it’s amazing. Thank you for this video Rachel 💗✨

When I was 14 and 15 I was buying designer clothes: versace, supreme nike adidas etc and I got the iphone x. I made 5 or 6 grand in the space of 1 and a bit years. Now im adding to my savings

Im 28 and agree 100% , i was able to buy so many expensive things i could not afford to buy now. I went on holidays, also bought an iphone, laptop pretty much everything but rent and food, and I agree so much with working while you are young because all this money is yours -no rent ,not big bills, no groceries, when you are young you also have more energy so i had 3 jobs during summer and had enough time and energy for myself and my friends, i also didnt have to study hard so it was not stressful to continue having 2 jobs while in high school. Once you get older all of your earned money will also have to go for stuff like rent etc, you will not have so much energy to manage multiple jobs and also with uni you will need to focus a lot on your averages. All in all, if you are 14 you got about 6 years of having all the money to yourself and spending on yourself- it only makes sense :))

Lol as soon as I got a job at 14 I had to pay rent and electricity and hardly had savings.
