  • Two years ago, I was featured on a podcast called Small Operations with a one minute performance with my Op-1. @fldpln if you’re out there, just know there is a smallops-shaped hole in all of our hearts right now.
    On the podcast, I was able to figure out how to use the OP-1 as a vocoder, and I’ve been meaning to make a tutorial on it ever since.
    It all has to do with the LFO of the OP-1. There's a number of different LFO types that you can choose from including one called element. The element LFO uses the built-in microphone or a line-in signal to modulate whatever part of the sound you set it to, including volume and pitch. So I figured I could sing into the element LFO and use that to modulate the volume and pitch of the sound I was playing.
    Thank you so much for joining me here on ShinesTV!

    Nice video! when i accidentally discovered that i can use LFO to modulate my voice like this pitch-shifting vocody-thingy i was suprised that there is sill a lot things to explore on the OP-1
    10 years old, and still amazing

    so cool! I'll have to find a mic that works and try this out myself.

      Thank you!! Any mic that has it's own battery power will do great- I actually used my Zoom H2n recorder as a mic for it once and it worked great!

    very cool work mate! question: what microphone are you using throughout the video?

    • @ShinesTV
      @ShinesTV  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much!! I'm using the Takstar SGC-598 shotgun mic hooked up to the Zoom H2n - it's a decent mic setup! The Zoom has a built-in compressor/limiter which comes in handy for voiceovers.

    Odd Question but What does CWO stand for ?

    • @ShinesTV
      @ShinesTV  2 роки тому

      Hey Quinoa! I think it actually stands for Cow, but is misspelled on purpose to express the sheer craziness that is this filter!

      @@ShinesTV I've seen a video from cuckoo using cwo to play with the voice, do you think it's possible to have both your LFO and the cwo to do vocoder? Like if you use your LFO for your engine, and use cwo in the 4-track LFO slot?
      I'll test later anyway but I'm lazy

  • @max_mittler

    really cool video! but it's not a vocoder, right? you kinda say in the video and description, it's more of a modulation. Vocoder shifts your pitch to the note you play on the keyboard

    • @ShinesTV
      @ShinesTV  2 роки тому

      That's correct! A true vocoder has a ton more processing, and this just uses one sound source to modulate the carrier tone.

  • @WARDISWARD
    @WARDISWARD 2 роки тому

    You clearly don't know what a vocoder is
    It splits the incoming audio-your voice aka the modulator into separate frequency bands ( bandpass filters ) which then goes into an envelope follower
    The carrier ( synth signal ) is also split into corresponding frequency bands and the output of each of these bands is controlled by the envelope follower .
