Hard to believe that in 2022, we’re still seeing 700 series cards being released. What is especially baffling is why they haven’t done this as a 1030 re-release if aiming at the lower end - it’s at least still supported, and has some of the other modern conveniences that were introduced in the 10 series - I can’t imagine those manufacturing nodes being as saturated at this point, without being almost prehistoric like the 700’s.

It is not on the companies. They don't want to sell old stuff for profit, they just don't have anything else. ANYTHING else. So, better sell older generation stuff than hving absolutely nothing on the market. It isn't like there lies any profit on having old production lines running producing this with also high memory and basic component prices.

It's funny that, back when I first really started getting into computers, for games, I never imagined cards even like this. I remember after getting into the Pentium age and saving up enough money to replace my 4mb non-3d card for a 3d card. I remember 8mb and 16mb cards were the most beastly cards on the market. I got a Voodoo 3 8mb card, when Unreal and Unreal Tournament came out and playing in something other than Software mode. A friend of mine, who had gotten a job at Westwood studios, then moved eventually to Ubisoft told me about a card they were using that was 32mb, I almost didn't believe him haha.
I said all that to say, being older, remembering when the first real 3d cards came out, it still blows my mind sometimes, looking at videos like this and seeing a 2gb card, being basically, obsolete. I guess you have to be old like me for it to seem as amazing, but after all these years, I still find it amazing haha.
    Great video as always :D

@Michaels Carport low end cards with 2GB really can do a great job handling well optimized games and browsing the net for a good while.
Combined with the low power usage/heat output and these parts can last sooo much time.
As for gaming, this is my early 2000's kid opinion, gaming got kinda lame and can really make your hardware look bad, be it either because it uses 800 post-process filters or having huge maps that most of the time manage to hurt the gameplay.
Basic things like having a draw distance slider can REALLY boost your performance, but most game studios don't even think about that because they make only on bleeding edge hardware

The performance discrepancy between the DDR3 and GDDR5 versions cannot be due to memory, as 64-bit GDDR5 still has more bandwidth. I suspect the PCIe X1 interface is the culprit there.

As far as this graphics card goes, it's only really any good as a display adapter... not as an actual graphics card. The PCI X1 interface (instead of something better, like X8 or X16) is really quite a bottleneck in newer titles. But hey, at least (by virtue of having four HDMI ports) it is decent to have for driving multiple monitors.

The only advantage of this card is it has full open-source driver support in Linux, as Kepler is the latest architecture so far not to require firmware binaries for initialization and to fully support re-clocking.
Add to that the amount of outputs and the only niche this GPU will serve (and very well) are SysAdmins looking for a simple server display adapter.

Having more 1x cards on the market is nice for certain niche use cases. I wanted to have a card in my Plex server for hardware transcoding but my 16x slots are used up. I ended up using a low-profile 710 that I had lying around with a 1x to 16x riser card, but something like this would have done the job beautifully.
Being single-slot and passively cooled also has its benefits for workloads similar to that. Unfortunately, the price is the killer. If you could snag one of these for 50 bucks, it would have legitimate use cases.
The 1x slot is its biggest weakness for gaming but perhaps its biggest strength for desktop use. Think of all the mATX machines and prebuilts that only have a single x16 slot. If you need to drive A LOT of monitors for some reason, this could give you the ability to run four additional monitors if you have only one x16 slot and it's already in use.

It's really sad honestly that they decided to re-release a old unsupported GPU instead of just lower the prices of the current ones.

Is this worth the price? At a tenner, maybe... for 10 times that? No way on earth. Quick edit here: I miss the days when Nvidia drivers would let you have 2 cards from different ranges on the same machine...

In fairness the gt730 isn't gonna have a easy time even with games from 2005 and is much worse than any igpu I've ever seen so I suppose support doesn't matter for this card anyways.

Dam didn't expecr 14 fps in rdr2 considering nfs mw2005 ran at just 24fps.

I do not understand why the prices of new GPUs you don't even have to buy are making an effect on the resale value of older ones by making the old ones more expensive
This world and its perfect logic never cease to amaze me

Awesome video man, on this topic is there a possibility you could review the maxsun GeForce GT 730 4 or 2 gb? If not it’s okay I’m just wondering if it could be a possibility, thanks!😁

This card actually hurts me... Why not make it a half height card? The cooler takes up half the height of it and you could easily make those 4 hdmi ports either mini HDMI or even better just mini dp. Like com'on man, it would be way more useful to just chuck it into an old cheap pc that can't support (or isn't even power enough to use) a full height card.

Not sure if you are joking or not, but I'm pretty sure a GT 730 is far below the minimum VR requirements for the vast majority of VR games.

I have an old 4gb GT730 that I paid £30 for, put it in an old HP desktop with an I3-3220 and upgraded to 16gb of ram, running batocera to it will play all my retro games up to ps1 and GameCube / Wii, only ps2 / xbox onward won’t run, so love it for that, got an emulation stations for £40 not including ram which I had in a drawer

@@Penoatle Thats understandable. The 1080 was a pretty big purchase at the time and i was unsure if it was worth it. Turns out it was a very good decision. Try your luck on ebay or other sites depending on where your based. i just picked up a 970 for a friend for 100€ yesterday so its possible.

I have this very same card now,lol just only a 200 mhz overclock and its decent. Although I bought it in 2015 when new for less than 75 bucks ,sucks that the market is just gonna still go on the deep end.

I have a dell R720, and only last month I managed to get a 16x g card in it and it does work, perfectly. My server has 8 cores, 16 threads, 50 gig of ram, and 4TB of storage. Currently it has Gigabyte Radeon (1024 MB) (GV-R465OC-1GI) Graphics Card installed. Works great, but im running Abuntu.
