      General Discharge. Could you do a video for Marine Recon officers and Special Recon officers?

    • @Skywalkaaa
      @Skywalkaaa 4 роки тому +2

      @@garisonkillingsworth5232 I'll let the experts handle this, but for the time being I can offer what I know. I think that the way the Air Force special warfare officer career fields work is there's a general special warfare officer (SWO) classification for the selection phase and then from there SWO's move on to become either special tactics officers (STO) or combat rescue (CRO). If it's anything like it's been, SR probably falls under the command of STO's. Take what I say with a grain of salt because I'm just a cadet and I can only know what I've heard from older cadets and what I can find online. www.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/2170844/air-force-creates-new-afsc-for-special-warfare-officers/

    I think Air Force SR is gonna attract a lot of Recon Marines. I left a comment on the Ones Ready channel about how many ST Airmen I’ve seen that were former Recon Marines and they replied saying “there was a big push in the 90s for jump and dive qualified guys to join AF Special Warfare.” I think SR might be the second push

    Excellent Info! An Air Force Forward Weatherman (as he described himself) and I became aquatinted at Fort Benning during Jump School. He taught me how to use ISO lines on weather maps to help me predict where the biggest surf was when I was in NC.
    I was lucky enough to go to RECON school as a non-infantry Marine. I was Motor-T and then became the Water Safety Survival Instructor in 2D ANGLICO. The billet came up and no one wanted it. So I jump on it. Got hurt. But it was fun while it lasted. Wouldn't have done anything with it as I had re-enlisted for the lofty life of a C-130 Navigator. Happens!
    All that to say this: If you go for it in Spec Ops of any kind, learn about how to take full advantage of the benefits you are due in case you get hurt. It took me too long to get up to speed with it. And there were some hard years. And, knowing you will be cared for gives you that extra little motivation to not worry what will happen to you if you mess up your knees & back, (for instance).

      @@USJTAC well BUD/S is only six months, but the SEAL pipeline is about 2 years. They have several other schools and SQT to go through. When you say that AFSOC unit training is 2 years, you are referring to the whole pipeline. The actual AFSOC operator course, and for lack of better words “BUD/s”equivalent, is 15.5 weeks(roughly 3.5 months). This is followed by other schools and their specialized skill set training in the pipeline. Both take around the same amount of time to earn their respective titles and assignment to their SO units.

      They are pulling candidates from the Airforce, so yeah. Marine recon pulls from Marines which are trained harder from the beginning. Its like if I pulled Varsity football players all from middle school kids instead of seasoned sophmores etc. Airforce PJ course is hard, but if you ran nothing but Marines or Seal candidates through it they would have a higher passing rate. Seal candidates don’t just pass their respective physical tests but exceed them and them some. So seals are the best of the best candidates and have a lot of training by Seal mentors. This is not saying that PJ course is not hard, but you have to put it in perspective.

    You missed something. Recon Marines have to go through Infantry School to become an 0311 first, which is 8 weeks (sometimes they will ask for volunteers from MCT instead, which is 4 weeks long). Infantry School falls between bootcamp and RTAP. Every Marine has to go through basic infantry school, be that MCT or ITB.

      Does that make all Marines infantry? No, of course not. Infantry is infantry, and everyone else has their own job. Grunts train for their job all the time, while the only infantry training that most other MOSs ever receive is MCT. Even still, all Marines do go through basic infantry training, even if they don't practice those skills in their jobs. The Air Force, by contrast, doesn't have any kind of infantry training to speak of.

    One correction: SOWT was technically a temporary duty assignment, a “special post” if you will for Air Force weathermen, and technically not a special mission unit. It didn’t have its own selection pipeline, etc

    • @I_am_not_a_dog
      @I_am_not_a_dog 3 роки тому +3

      No. That is extremely incorrect. From 2009 to the SR-changeover, SOWT had its own selection, pipeline, and OJT. I said ‘it’s own’ - it was shared with CCT. Just the job-specific training, WX and ATC, was separate. SOWTs were fully qualified operators, and had their own AFSC, 1W0X2.
      Prior to 2009, what you said is… more or less true. Although in the years leading up to the ‘official’ 2009 designation, the pipeline had been solidified. But you did need to be regular WX, whereas after 2009 you could come in ‘off the street.’
      Now, there are ‘Battlefield Weather’ or ‘Combat Weather’ teams. These are regular WX Airmen that apply to support conventional Army air and ground units. They attend a short course, BWMQT, in order to learn how to function with an Army unit. It’s nothing special, and they are not SOF in any way, shape, or form. There are a couple Combat Weather Squadrons that have jump-qualified Airmen that, for some insane reason, are authorized to wear the grey beret (with a flash - SOWT/SR wears no flash - and a metal badge that is different from SOWT/SR). It’s bullshit, as all they need to do is go through jump school and be assigned to one of these units in order to rate our beret. So you’ll see fatasses, try-hard women, etc occasionally wearing the grey beret. I believe they’re present in the 3rd, 10th, and 18th Combat Weather Squadrons.
      CWS Airmen - even the ones with berets - didn’t have anything to do with SOWT/SR after 2009. Prior to 2009, most SOWTs were CWS, jump-qual’d WX Airmen that would volunteer for the training that would permit them to deploy alongside SOF units. Once they completed this training, they would remove the flash from their grey beret, and change out the ‘Combat Weather Team’ badge for the ‘Special Operations Weather Team’ badge.
