I was with STA in Hawaii in the 80's. We were just conventional billeted MOS snipers. We spent more time training with the Rangers than with our own recon. We operated in 6, 4 and 2 man scout teams. The 2 man team was for the stalking and long term surveillance missions. We got a lot of good enhanced foraging skills from them as we operated outside of the logistics envelope for extended periods. Our senior member was a staff sergeant and the Army commander out there would invite us to play black hat aggressor in the North Shore training area. S2 would green light and we got out of all the drill and inspection prep.

@@lateefalimi7331 Or as said by many veteran snipers: Your most dangerous weapon is not necessarily what you carry, but the information you provide to your command. There are situations where snipers held their fire, because what they observe, note and record is far more valuable for the big picture, than shooting a few targets of opportunity and potentially alerting the enemy they are compromised.
For the army you can also get a recommendation for it I served as a 12B combat engineer and when we would get attached to infantry for mostly training their leadership would tell us if any of us met the qualifications to go and were interested that they would recommend any of us. The way I see it, there are a couple schools of thought as far as velocity goes. Do you run a supersonic load for better ballistics, or do you run a subsonic load so you don’t alert the enemy’s buddies after he drops? Is your projectile going to deliver enough energy at the range you’re shooting? Is the projectile going to move too fast and zip straight through your target? Is your target behind a hard barrier? These are some of the questions that snipers and marksmen have to ask when they’re setting up a rifle for their job.
