My mom died at the age of 33. She was an alcoholic and I was 5 when she died, all I remember of her is those scary situations.. one being in a swirling car. Sadly, I felt relieved growing up without her . She tried to gave me drinks and silly me understood that it was wrong and refuse to do drink with her. Alcoholism makes you reach your lows … and hearts deeply the people around them.
Please protect your kids. Please protect yourself. ❤

First caller: Overeating to the point of obesity is obviously not normal and if there is no medical reason for it there is something going on emotionally. I know from personal experience. I am definitely a junk food addict and like Dr. John, can’t touch that sugary stuff. I gave up all my junk food four months ago and I am not white knuckling it which I am very grateful for. I made some lifestyle changes and the compulsion to grab carbs has been lifted.

Regarding the wife and her drinking 🍷 It will only get worse if you don’t keep your boundaries. And you MUST do EVERYTHING to protect your kids. You MUST get 💯 % custody. I’ve seen this up close and personal… if you do divorce, things will go south quickly. Legally protect yourself … more than you think you need. I worked for a divorce attorney and have seen a lot. And I’ve seen addiction in my family.
When your wife sees that you love her and are holding these boundaries and keeping them … it may help her recognize her need for help.
I hope 🙏🏼 things go well for your family. Your kids one day will thank you for putting their safety first. You do NOT want to regret taking a chance on their physical and emotional health.

I'm a bereavement doula. When a baby dies, they call me. The first thing they taught us in school was, "Doulaing the doula"- that is, how to make sure you're okay and taking care of yourself as you walk with families through the space where birth and death meet.

I’m one of those moms. I lost my baby in 2018. It’s simultaneously so fresh and hard, while being so distant. I can’t begin to describe what it’d be like to get a letter to my son. Him saying that made me cry. That would be such an amazing thing to be able to have.

For the nurse… my dad just died recently and I got to stay with him in hospice. His last days he was choking violently almost non-stop. The nurses there were AMAZING… they hugged me, cried with me … and showed so much respect to my father. I wondered how they could do this as most of them had 10-20 years experience. The hospice staff lent into connect and it made ALL the difference.
What you are doing is a gift to the baby, mother, father and family members. A priceless gift that they will forever remember.
In this unfair world, you are making a difference by connecting and witnessing their grief.

For Tori, I thought of that great quote from JD to Dr. Cox in Scrubs- “I guess I came over here to tell you how proud of you I am. Not because you did the best you could for those patients... but because after 20 years of being a doctor, when things go badly, you still take it this hard. And I gotta tell you man, I mean, that’s the kind of doctor I want to be.”

The minute your significant other punches you or throws hot coffee on you is the minute you should reconsider if that relationship is worth continuing. Especially if it happened before having kids. Nobody ever deserves to be disrespected like that wether you’re under the influence or not.

This came at a very apropos time in my life and the life of my family. For the past almost 2 months we have been waiting for my son and his wife's little one to pass. They found out at the 20 week ultrasound that baby would not live. At this point however, baby is still alive and there's a possibility that my daughter-in-law made carry full term. It has been very difficult for them and I can't imagine as much as it breaks my heart. So some of the things that you shared on how the nurse could deal with things was very helpful and useful. Also for my son dealing with some of the things he has seen in the fire service. I appreciate the information that I could pass on to him, and the information I could use as a member of EMS.

"A part of me was taken; I didn't give permission"
Thank you for this insight; it essentially defines the relationship I had with my mother, who for 20+ years would take/negate a part of me on a near-daily basis. At 49 years old, I remain bewildered as to why she needed to treat me so. The grief I continue to feel - both at her actions, and the life of extreme dysfunction I subsequently lived - consumes me. I have (and have had) nothing... all so that she might feel a little more powerful in a fleeting moment.

Wim Hof seems like a spin-off of pranayama. I know Americans go crazy for asanas, but imo if you are not also properly doing pranayama and dharana it is incomplete. Body, breath and mind control to truely master yourself. If anyone is interested in what I am talking about check out The Shiva Samhita and Yoga Sutar by Patanjali.

Dude, you need to scorch the earth to protect your kids. Get an attorney and a therapist, not just for yourself but your kids. My husband's parents were both high functioning alcoholics. His mother was a mean bitter drunk with extensive physical abuse in her history... who would be found naked, incoherent, screaming that she wanted to die, while passed out in the bathroom by her kids when they came home from school. My hubby remembers multiple instances of being given $$$ by his dad to go to the arcade for the entire DAY because mom was in a violent mood and it wasnt safe for him there. Both kids had locking bedroom doors because of her. His dad was a giggly drunk who never stood up to his spouse abusing her kids, he was a serial philanderer who would threaten divorce but never had the balls to do it... and my husband is permanently emotionally scarred. Do whatever you have to do to protect their kids, i can tell you that theyre hurt akready.. Its time for the gloves to come all the way off.

I have a question about a conversation I had online with someone who had taken down some videos they had posted. This person implied that they took down the videos because something negative was occurring in their life and they felt as though they were falling off the face of the earth. This bothered me because I'm not sure if these kinds of comments indicate that this person is giving up on life and I don't want this to happen to this person. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what I could say without coming off as nosy? Thanks!
