Just an FYI my tv (LG OLED CX) has an optical output and you can set it to output the audio coming from the HDMI cable. So it's worth looking if your tv supports that too.

Are you sure this adapter supports 120hz at 1080p? In the blog they keep saying it only supports 60hz, which is ridiculous for nextgen consoles at 1080p. This has stopped me from buying it

Can you explain in simpler terms what this is for? I just bought the A50s and have a PS5! Trying to figure out if I need this. Also is there a way I can get my astros to charge while the PS5 is in rest mode?
The astro mixamp has 2 audio channels: USB and optical. If you only use USB then you are "stuck" with 1 channel and you can't change eg the voice volume vs game volume because all is going over 1 channel. Additionally it seems like the USB driver of the PS5 is ... pretty basic and doesn't give the fullest audio. In my experience I liked the audio better over optical. So what this thing does is take the audio out of the HDMI signal and sends it over to an optical port so you can enjoy that second channel (optical) of your mixamp again. However some TV's have an optical out, in this case you don't need the adapter. Also if you are happy with the USB audio and you dont need to switch volume levels, then you don't need this and you can just use optical
Mine works but the headset mic sounds horrible so bad my PlayStation controller built in mic is a Bugatti compared to this Astro a50 mic that sounds like a car with a busted transmission lol
So assuming that for example you have: Gigabyte M28U that supports 4k with 120hz that comes with HDMI 2.1 and you hook up this adapter in between your PS5 and your M28U to extract the audio that you need for the headset, does this HDMI adapter/extractor come with HDMI 2.1? If it comes with 2.0 then it may lock me with 4k at 60 hz even though a would have 4k and 120hz monitor and a game that supports 120hz. Am I correct on this?
So i got the Razer thresher 7.1 and for the PS4 it uses a optical port. Now with the ps5 i assume that i lose the surround sound and it will be stereo sound. With this product I sould be able to use my headset with surround sound (like the PS4) and get 1080p and 120H quality for my screen, right?
So I’m trying to figure out before i buy . I only need it for streaming so my stream can hear my chat audio ? Is this what’s needed or no . And could i stream with a wireless headset and it pick up all audio
not needed and it depends on the headset, an Astro A40 mixamp (wired) has a stream port that sends out all audio that comes in & out to a single output, great for streamers, sadly only on the wired mixamp. So if you would use the audio extractor, you could connect the optical to your PC and capture the incoming voice & game audio, but it will not capture your voice. So you'll have to use a second mic

did you try without adapter? if it works without adapter then it's an issue with your settings, check: blog.astrogaming.com/2020/12/a50-headset-playstation-5-setup-guide/
so whats the diff if i hook it up via usb thats how i have it right now i bought my a50s last night and plugged it in to the usb on back of ps5 wold i get a better sound...
in my test the sound was better over optical. Also you'll have 2 channels (USB and optical) allow you to change voice-game balance. If oyu only use USB then you can't change the balance
Question I got everything hooked up and I’m trying to change the settings on my ps5 but the audio output doesn’t allow me to switch to my Astro ?! Any idea
yea should work just as well as on ps4 as you just plug it in your controller. Not working on one side is either a faulty headset or the user didnt plug the audio cable in all the way, then you also only have sound on one side
Wouldn't it be easier to buy an optical splitter from your TV to your headset? I have a sound bar and am thinking of going that way since a splitter is like 14 bucks.
I have it hooked up to my Samsung q90T and I put the tv in game mode to get the 4K but it says my tv doesn’t support HDR. If I plug the optical in to the tv without the adapter it’s fine
Hi, hopefully you will respond. Is there a way I can have the astros connected to both the PS4 and PS5 at the same time? So whenever I’d turn on one console they would be ready and working for each console? It’s a hassle to keep unplugging the cables
you could work with an optical splitter, but then the USB connection would still be an issue ... so i'd say no unless you start doing crazy stuff in which case it'll probably be cheaper just to buy a second mixamp in case of the A50 you could just get a second base and then click it in the base for a sec and it'll sync
@@GamegearTV solution found and it's quite simple! I've used a USB switch which connects the two consoles to the base station, I just switch between either console from the device depending on which one I want to use! The optical cable stays connected from the base station to the TV.

it should work, make sure both cables work by connecting the ps5 to the tv using each cable. If that works you are certain the cables are fine, then check the resolution, i propose putting is in 1080p first and of course make sure you have the PS5 going to IN and the monitor going to OUT of the adapter
I thought the same thing at first. I didn't think the USB cable that came with the device was going to be necessary but it turns out that you need it in order to power the device. Also like Gamegear said, just make sure that the ps5 is plugged through the input side and the HDMI cable that's going into the tv or monitor is plugged into the output side.
On the PS4 I had the Soundblaster XG 5 connected over USB to my PC and used the optical cable for the PS4 so I could hear PS4 gamesound + PC Discord at the same time. Will I be able to do the same with this on the PS5?
I can't get any picture, just volume unless I disable HDCP is this how it's intended to be or am I doing something wrong. It sucks not using apps with the headset
it' spossible you need to disable the copyright protection, it works without? I know back in the day you had to do that to get your elgato capture device to work. Haven't heard that you had to do it for the hdmi splitter
i dont have the mix amp just the base station and i have a50 gen 3. for some reason the presets on my slider doesnt work its always the same sound. how do i get my presets to work? i have all the latest firmware.
@Jay _TooGoated no need for an additional optical cable and if your TV has an optical out, then you don't need the HDMI adaptor as you can plug the optical cable in the optical out port of your tv
you need USB for power anyway, if you put it in the console you'll be able to use USB for voice (creating channel 1) and then optical for game audio (which creates channel 2). Wether you get the optical sound from and adapter or from your TV that doesn't matter

Can I use my A20’s wirelessly ? or do I need to plug it into the adapter to be able to hear my friends and gameplay ?
sure you can, you can either go full USB or buy the adapter if you want to have 2 channels
I don’t understand all these video’s. Everyone shows you how to connect everything but they leave out the most important part, the PS5 settings on the system, so the headset works right??
if more people ask I'll do a follow up, but it'll be a very short video
@@GamegearTV Interested. Just to ensure I don't mess up when mine arrives lol
@@AnimeAnalyst ther's not really anything you can mess up though, so dont worry too much ;)
Astro hdmi adapter only does 60hz so you display will only give you 60fps. I have had this product since it came out.
that is incorrect, Astro also updated their blog
@@GamegearTV Got 3 emails for support at Astro (including one today) that says different.
@@darrenalyea3215 ok, but I have tested it myself, here in the office and I notified astro that they were wrong on their blog and they confirmed they would update it, and they did
I get a horrendous crackling sound. Is it the adapter itself? Maybe get a replacement ? I tried without the adapter and the issue was gone on slobs. Please advise.
yea just get a new one, thats not normal
@@GamegearTV yup! got it replaced from astro! all fixed now :D
Are you sure this adapter supports 120hz at 1080p? In the blog they keep saying it only supports 60hz, which is ridiculous for nextgen consoles at 1080p. This has stopped me from buying it
I tested it myself, its 120 @1080p and 60 at 4K or 1440p
No,my Monitor is not showing 120hz on 1080p...and also not showing it with 1440p....it showes me only 120hz with 1440p when i delete the adapter and connect hdmi directly to monitor.
Two questions. The normal usb that’s on the mix amp. I need that too? So I need two USBs? I unplugged it and it won’t work without it. Also, now my audio is backwards when I move the dial to “game” I hear nothing.. and when I turn it to “audio” I hear only game
I do not get 120 hz on the games that support it through this adapter. I bet it also matters the monitor you have. My monitor supports 144hz but yet I still don't get 120hz.
that is strange indeed, but some 144 monitors only give 144 on DP and not HDMI
I watched your video and it worked first time but after I went to use it again my ps5 no longer comes up on hdmi input but only viszeo comes up instead. Any help?
if you did the exact same, and tried to reconnect again and it still doesn't work it might be defective
I'm pretty sure if you plug the USB into your PC you can use your headset for both PC and ps5 at the same time.
if one is pluggen into the optical and the other into usb then sure
So i can still run 1440p
Hi...may i know what monitor you are using in this video?bcoz i saw u r using gigabyte...did u tried gigabyte g27f can give u 1080p 120hz on black ops cold war?
it's the G32QC 1440p and yes 1080p @ 120Hz is no issue but the 1440p is 60Hz
@@GamegearTV i see..so u tried the gigabyte g27f?do u get 1080p 120hz?bcoz what i heard is 1.4hdmi port cannot get 1080p 120hz on ps5 and g27f is 1.4hdmi port
@@andrastan9543 i didn't try that one and yes 1.4 could be an issue
@@GamegearTV i see..ok then
Can you explain in simpler terms what this is for?
Is there a way I can charge my Astros while the PS5 is in rest mode?
@@andreiparala4501 only if you would use a self powered USB hub, then the USB hub gets power from the outlet and not the PS5
I didint even have to use hdmi through it
Mine works but the headset mic sounds horrible so bad my PlayStation controller built in mic is a Bugatti compared to this Astro a50 mic that sounds like a car with a busted transmission lol
Am I correct on this?
the hdmi adapter is not 2.1 so max it will do is 120hzat 1080p or 60hz at 4K
But wait... how are you getting power to the A50 cradle if the USB is going from the adapter to the PS5?
you can use a USB hub
How can you charge the headset while on rest mode? 😔
Leave USB Power supply activated in the power saving options.
My friends say my mic is to loud! How the fuck do I fix this. It’s on the lowest setting
Not good for me, it got too hot and stop working.
Mine does not work. I have to plug usb power to the headset base to Ps5 bout to return this headset basically takes up every port on the console
you can use a USB hub or a power outlet with a USB slot
So i got the Razer thresher 7.1 and for the PS4 it uses a optical port. Now with the ps5 i assume that i lose the surround sound and it will be stereo sound.
With this product I sould be able to use my headset with surround sound (like the PS4) and get 1080p and 120H quality for my screen, right?
yes, correct
Do I have to buy spdif cable separately? Can’t find it
Well this adapter work for the school series wireless headset pros
yes
@@GamegearTV Sorry I made the skills series wireless headset
So let me get this straight, the adapter will not affect the full experience of ps5 image performance ?
it will if you have a 4K 120hz monitor
So I’m trying to figure out before i buy . I only need it for streaming so my stream can hear my chat audio ? Is this what’s needed or no . And could i stream with a wireless headset and it pick up all audio
not needed and it depends on the headset, an Astro A40 mixamp (wired) has a stream port that sends out all audio that comes in & out to a single output, great for streamers, sadly only on the wired mixamp. So if you would use the audio extractor, you could connect the optical to your PC and capture the incoming voice & game audio, but it will not capture your voice. So you'll have to use a second mic
This thing is so hot after a bit.. Is that normal?
mine got hot as well
Hey there I followed every step here and mine wont work, i just got my adapter from astro and somehow my headset is not working, i can’t hear any sound out of it and when i try to test my mic, it doesn’t recognize any voice. Please help
did you try without adapter? if it works without adapter then it's an issue with your settings, check: blog.astrogaming.com/2020/12/a50-headset-playstation-5-setup-guide/
@@GamegearTV I set my settings just like in the tutorial.
Do you know if its possible to run dicord in any way with the Ps5 and That astro Adapter .
Thanks for the vid helped me a lot
I did this the other day. Connected the usb from my Astro A50 Base Station to my laptop which was running Discord.
So you can run pc sound and ps5 sound with this?
so whats the diff if i hook it up via usb thats how i have it right now i bought my a50s last night and plugged it in to the usb on back of ps5 wold i get a better sound...
in my test the sound was better over optical. Also you'll have 2 channels (USB and optical) allow you to change voice-game balance. If oyu only use USB then you can't change the balance
Question I got everything hooked up and I’m trying to change the settings on my ps5 but the audio output doesn’t allow me to switch to my Astro ?! Any idea
Same here, you figure it out?
Connect usb to ps5
Connect optical cable to TV
Boom headset works
yes, if your tv/monitor has it
@@GamegearTV Which if the resolution is above 720p and it isn't 10 years old, it probably does.
Nope. It worked for the first week. Now I have no sound coming out of my headset. It just stopped working one day. So, I had to buy this.
I’ve done this and it doesn’t work for me
did you follow these steps: blog.astrogaming.com/2020/12/mixamp-pro-tr-ps5-setup-guide/
So I’ve currently got a xbox one and I’m going to get the ps5 so could I use this adapter to use my one on the Xbox for the ps5?
yes, works on everything, it's just a way to get audio out of HDMI, regardless of the source
This Astro adapter runs inline from ps5 to source (TV or AVR)....so this will kill 4K120 HDMI 2.1??
yes, 4K at 60Hz or 1080 at 120hz only
Are the Astro A10 any good on PS5? I’ve heard some great things but also very bad things like only side working etc
yea should work just as well as on ps4 as you just plug it in your controller. Not working on one side is either a faulty headset or the user didnt plug the audio cable in all the way, then you also only have sound on one side
The adapter is HDMI 2.1?
no it's 2.0b
I’m getting a black screen, I’ve connected it the way you did and I’m not getting any signal
Try it the other way, hdmi from tv into the back of the adapter (Astro word facing you) and hdmi from PlayStation 5 to the front

Wouldn't it be easier to buy an optical splitter from your TV to your headset? I have a sound bar and am thinking of going that way since a splitter is like 14 bucks.
yes but a lot of people play with a monitor and they don't have an optical port
but in your case, yes thats a good solution :)
I have it hooked up to my Samsung q90T and I put the tv in game mode to get the 4K but it says my tv doesn’t support HDR. If I plug the optical in to the tv without the adapter it’s fine
I would use the optical in the TV, you don't need an adapter in this case. Can you still return it?
Does anyone know how to fix a50s base charging when ps5 is on rest mode? My headset does not have battery each time I turn on the console
best thing you can do is buy a self powered USB hub and plug it in there as that will always give power
@@GamegearTV what specs? Voltage watts etc.
Hi, hopefully you will respond. Is there a way I can have the astros connected to both the PS4 and PS5 at the same time? So whenever I’d turn on one console they would be ready and working for each console? It’s a hassle to keep unplugging the cables
you could work with an optical splitter, but then the USB connection would still be an issue ... so i'd say no unless you start doing crazy stuff in which case it'll probably be cheaper just to buy a second mixamp
in case of the A50 you could just get a second base and then click it in the base for a sec and it'll sync
@@GamegearTV could a usb switch + an optical switch OR a hdmi matrix work for the A50s?
@@GamegearTV solution found and it's quite simple! I've used a USB switch which connects the two consoles to the base station, I just switch between either console from the device depending on which one I want to use! The optical cable stays connected from the base station to the TV.

I bought the Astro adapter plugged everything just like the video but my TV says no video 😔 can you help me out, so confused 😐
it should work, make sure both cables work by connecting the ps5 to the tv using each cable.
I hear my own voice in my headset how do I turn that off?
you can connect it to the PC and use the astro software to change the option "side tone", that is what gives you the feedback
Ok so this adapter does run 1080p at 120hz but not 4K at 120hz am I right on that? You would just need obviously a 120hz+ monitor or tv correct?
yes, correct on both accounts

yes, same setup
I can't get any picture, just volume unless I disable HDCP is this how it's intended to be or am I doing something wrong. It sucks not using apps with the headset
it' spossible you need to disable the copyright protection, it works without? I know back in the day you had to do that to get your elgato capture device to work. Haven't heard that you had to do it for the hdmi splitter
i dont have the mix amp just the base station and i have a50 gen 3. for some reason the presets on my slider doesnt work its always the same sound. how do i get my presets to work? i have all the latest firmware.
and it works fine on PC? mag sure you have set your output to dolby
@Jay _TooGoated see other replies XD
@Jay _TooGoated no need for an additional optical cable and if your TV has an optical out, then you don't need the HDMI adaptor as you can plug the optical cable in the optical out port of your tv
is it necessary to use usb and optical together for chat mix on my ps5 or is it sufficient if i only connect optical to the tv?
you need USB for power anyway, if you put it in the console you'll be able to use USB for voice (creating channel 1) and then optical for game audio (which creates channel 2). Wether you get the optical sound from and adapter or from your TV that doesn't matter
