- A brief explanation of the APRS transmit prohibit issue with the FTM-300 and why it occurs.
This is not very well documented so hopefully this helps to solve the issue.

You’ll get the same message if your “my position set” is set to GPS and the GPS symbol is flashing and not solid

This was it for me, thank you. Don't know why my gps wasn't set. Couldn't figure out why my FTM-200 would tx in the truck, but the one in my base station wouldn't.
Just bought a 300. Not setup yet, but thanks for the info.
Glad to be of help, it’s got a bit of a learning curve but pretty easy to work with. I programmed mine by hand but will use an SD card to back up, those seem to be the wave of the future in radio.

Yea, and it makes perfect sense too, but it's just not a descriptive error. Plus, the norm for guys that play with data is generally to leave squelch wide open.@@hamandcheese25

Thank you for the video. It is helpful info. However, because I often change frequency to listen to sheriff or FD, when the APRS is set to 'mute,' it seems to prevent whatever other radio traffic I might want to listen to. For me, it was just easier to close the squelch enough to reduce the static. Then I didn't have either of those issues anymore.
Interesting, do you have the APRS set to VFO B and use VFO A for your listening? I also listen to local fire dispatch and have not experienced this issue running it in the above setup

Bob, WB4APR,created Voice Alert for APRS. You set your PL Tone to 100.0, then your unit still receives the APRS Packets, but you only hear the packets with the PL through the speaker.

I don't know... I've have this feeling this radio's squelch is wonky from the factory.
I have to agree, it is a bit quirky in its setup and does take a bit of getting used to
This is not an "issue" or a "problem" that needs fixed. It is simply how radios with APRS work. It won't transmit if the squelch is open. Every radio I have that has APRS works this way - Kenwood or Yaesu. Still, it is good for people to understand how this works.
That is correct on the squelch, but in this case there is a mute function for the APRS which is not a common feature on most radios. Of all of the 2m/70cm gear I use this is the only one that offers it. Thanks for watching
