It’s different and good, but I like the album version with Spector’s strings and vocals better. But this is certainly a more garage 60’s version I was craving!

This really shows how hard The Beatles worked on different versions of songs until finally reaching the final version we all know and love... I used to think they just sat down and played the version exactly as it was on the record! What an eye-opening experience all these videos on youtube have been for me! I just never realized how experimental they were, and moreover, how much work went into creating the finished product!!!
Four genius musicians who together, created a massive part of the soundtrack of our lives! Thank you John, Paul, George and Ringo, for all you sacrificed and all you gave... The world would be a much bleaker place without your music, Beatles era and post Beatles era! I mean, who couldn't love The Travelling Wilburys? And that was George Harrison's baby. Would never have happened without him getting it started! ✌🏼😎❤️

@@vascoernesto78 Indeed! Sir George Martin AND sound Engineer Geoff Emerick (I've terribly misspelled his last name!) played a gigantic part in the music of THE BEATLES!!!
Many times George Martin has been referred to as the 5th Beatle and I agree with that assignment! Without George Martin's amazing production skills and his astounding ability to write the PERFECT arrangements (the infamous string quartet on Yesterday, the beautiful harpsichord solo on In My Life... which he played himself, and the orchestral arrangements on Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band... especially on A Day In The Life,.and with the four pianos playing that final chord that rings on forever) he is a huge part of what made them THE BEATLES!
And don't forget that he was the one sacked Pete Best and scored the great and perfect fit of Ringo Starr!!! The Beatles had wanted Ringo for a long time, but George Martin was the one who made it happen...
And the rest is history!!!

Check out the version done by Rufus Wainwright, Moby and Sean Lennon (John's son). It has nice harmonies like this but with the mood of the album version.

So incredible how this early version is so rock n roll and classic wonky beatles, and interestingly the time is kind of irregular, the electric guitars and all feel like something they'd add later on the evolution of the song... but it's very interesting to think it evolved into something more minimal but SO much more atmospheric and timelessly beautiful. Or maybe I'm wrong or this is just them jamming on the chord progression.

It was recorded after the version we all know (saved from the trash by Spector, sped up, put strings on it). John wasn't happy with this version and wanted to rework it for the get back sessions.

When I bought the bootleg get back album in '69/70 this version was on it. I sure hope that this version makes it on the remixed Let It be album.

So cool to hear how it might have been. This always felt like a song that never quite was. Over-produced, over-sentimentalized, over-reverbed thanks Phil. But here you can hear the good bones of it. They could have done a real slow-burn rocker on this.

Great stuff, think you've got the description slightly wrong though, the song wasn't released until it was on a charity compilation later in 1969
Across The Universe was originally recorded in February ‘68 along with Hey Bulldog and Lady Madonna in the final session before going to India. It was considered as a single but Lady Madonna was chosen instead,
@@BigSky1 song would have probably gone on the white album if it hadn't been set aside for the wwf charity thing in 68. Also it seems that phil spector and the group ditched this live '69 recording and just did a remix of the original GM recording(s) for the 'Let it be' film/LP

I don't know if I would call this a serious version more a run thru than anything else, if they were to release it thou I would as Kewkabe mentioned get rid of Yoko and her interruption.
I agree, they may have started the game seriously, but it quickly dissolves into an extremely weird and rough run through! I love the acoustic version on LET IT BE NAKED sooooo much more!

I wish that Ringo would have played his cymbal rather than his high-hat - it would have sounded more 'pretty' and more 'full'.
Sometimes when the band is learning a song a drummer will stay on the high hat because it's a bit quieter and you can hear what's going on better when you're learning it
