- I made video testing the Festool script bit with the Shaper Origin, in comparison to a tapered angle bit. The goal was to see which bit is better to engrave letters or words into wood.

That script bit is ideal for filled single line text. You can then go much deeper. Boxed text like you did is absolutely not what’s it’s made for beyond a certain point. The script bit will give the script a “V” profile which makes it look beautiful…an example being script that looks like fancy single line hand writing or calligraphy style fonts. Need to use the bits in their intended use case to get the most out of them.

I really liked the text engraving you did in this video, and I wondered if you could produce a video showing the software you used to create the text, producing a cutting path and the creation of the Shaper-acceptable .svg file

Thanks 😊 You can use any font you want by placing it in a vector graphics software (eg Illustrator, Inkscape), the converting the font to paths and saving as an svg. That’s how I do it...
Looked super good, just the bottom of the a and c on the festool bit looked a little sloppy compared to the other one. Getting closer and closer to buying a shaper origin.

With the shallow depths I can clearly see that the festool bit produced a sharper result, but in every test it also appeared to have more errors. Specifically, more areas where the curve wasn't smooth, kind of like the shaper was bumped or something. Can you comment on this?
Interesting. That is not my experience, but looking at the picture I can see why you must conclude like that. After using the bit for many hours, I feel confident it is sharper at shallow depths.
@@Woodensoul Yeah it's weird, because 95% of the festool cut one looks way better but that other 5% looks way worse :) Specifically, at 3:54 in the video, the bottom of the festool "C" has a bump, and at 4:10 the bottom of the festool "A" has a bump. I'm guessing this was just a Shaper snafu and not a bit issue. In any case, thanks for the comparison. As a new Shaper owner I really appreciate your content, keep it up!

It's an up & down bit, people on forum seem to like it, it make cleaner cut (thanks to the "up" part of the bit) and help the piece of wood to stick to the workbench (thanks to the "down" part of the bit), if I understood correctly the utility of the kind of bit.

The shaper comes with a 1/4" collet and the script bit has a 8mm shaft diameter. How do you get this to work? THX
The US Shaper comes indeed with a 1/4“
collet, and the script bit only with 8mm. If you want to use that bit you need an 8mm collet. I explain everything collet here: ua-cam.com/video/wIUd37VuedY/v-deo.html

No longer available in the US for some reason. Also, as mentioned below, you are not using the Festool bit for its intended purpose which is to carve single line font characters, not outline characters. Shaper Origin now has a few single line fonts with more coming (I hope).
Yeah, it's no longer sold, but I ended up using mostly this bit anyway, as it's much cheaper and has pretty good results for the money: ua-cam.com/video/BtAmp1RZT0o/v-deo.html
Given the strange shape of the Festool bit, what did you enter into Shaper for the bit diameter?
I set it to „engrave“
