I am especially happy about this promotion because I was expecting to get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection at a really good price with 50% more discount. 😀 I myself can say that I am a fan of the classic TMNT TV series since my childhood and even if I could only watch the episodes of the first 3 seasons in my native language, it is good to know that other TMNT stories were shown by the developers employed at the video game company called Konami. 🙂
I'm an old fan of turtles as well, But don't diss the CG Nickelodeon teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show. It was actually really good and brought back the original turtles for a few episodes with their original voice actors. They even had the last couple episodes bring shredder and Krang over to this universe for a crossover. This is just a port of an arcade game that came out about them during that time.
Arguably, the 2012 crossovers treated the '87 turtles with more respect then the controversial "Turtles Forever" movie did. It still spoofed some things, but you could tell the show runners understood and liked the '87 turtles better then the 2003 4Kids/Fox staff did. The 2012 Series even brought back many classic TMNT characters the 2003 series ignored, like Slash, Tatsu, Mutagen Man, and the Rat King. (Seriously, the 2003 series really neglected the Rat King only doing literally one episode with him... Not counting his "orgin" episode before he became the Rat King, and his very brief series finale cameo.)
I definitely agree, I much prefer how the 2012 version handled the Classic Turtles way more. 4kids in the 2003 version did not portray them accurately at all. All they did was super cartoonified them and didn't even bother getting the original voice actors. Don't get me wrong I like the crossover Turtles forever but it's definitely not accurate. Plus with the 2012 crossover I love the fact that we got more Krang lore.
Normally I'd agree with you, but there are people who grew up with this version of TMNT and didn't have that many options videogame wise. Let them have their fun. ❤
As someone who grew up with the cornball classic 90s and darker 2003 series, I actually liked 2012 TMNT as it was kinda like a combination of the goofy 80s/90s show, and yet could be as dark/serious as the 2003 series.
@@ZoraTheExplora as a retro turtle fan, the 80s/90s show wasn't always perfect, and very cheesy at times, lest I remind you of characters like "Mr. Ogg," or that tourist alien with a camera. 2012 keeps the classic cheese, and humor, but mixes it with the darker style of the 2003 series and 1990 movie. So I actually think it was pretty good.
I disagree, 2012 has many fans. It's only underrated with some older 1987/2003 purists who only like the previous shows, and nothing else TMNT related.
@@beauwalker9820 I'm a huge TMNT fan from the 80s and 90s. I enjoyed the games, the show, and the first two movies (screw the third for existing) from that time period. I absolutely adored the 2012 Turtles. And would freaking love to see a game based on the new generation Turtles from the Last Ronin universe.
Same here grew up with the orignal series. I like all the different adaptations but the 2012 turtles had the best of both old and 2003 series @@Overlord81
Fun fact, Kevin Eastman a co-creator for TMNT called it the best adaptation of TMNT he ever saw. That's big praise, considering he and Peter Laird weren't too fond of the original 1980s/90s show.
big TMNT fan here the 2k12 nick series has gone down as one of the best incarnations of the turtles and lots of people are big fans of it and wish it would come back. that said, there's been no hint of that happening and a new videogame for this version is absolutely out of left field and unexpected
I mean, the 2k12 story has been fully told though. There is only a couple small minor things to go over at this point It having a presence though, would be good/decent... but new stories set into it, would only seem cheap and hollow. For any example, let's look at how the 2003 Turtles got handled (to some degree)
@@TexasHollowEarthy'know Kevin Eastman liked the 2012 show, and called it the "best version of TMNT" he ever saw. So you obviously never saw it aside from the more humorous episodes. It can get just as dark and serious as the 2003 series, and arguably even had some edgy things the 2003 series couldn't get away with.
Well, as the father of two young girls that love that arcade game at Chuck E. Cheese I’m very happy that we’re getting a Home release going to save so much money
As someone that grew up with the original turtles cartoon, and watched the 2012... It's much better than you'd think, with plenty of good development, some incredibly dark moments, a Shredder that takes the fued with Splinter to a higher level, and each season a running gag of the Turtles watching old cartoons. And those definitly knew how to draw muscles in the old style. Also a very respectful crossover with the 80's turtles.
Wow man, kinda missed the mark in this one. I’m closer to your age, I get it, our classics are amazing, but you can’t ignore that future generations have nostalgia for things if their own time as well. This game is not amazing, but it’s far from bad
No kidding. Also, complaining that the turtles look like kids? Did he just not see the word "teenage"? I mean c'mon man, it's in the title! They're all about 15-16 (which kinda makes their relationship with a 23 year old April a little creepy) We of gen x will always have people catering to our nostalgia but the young millennials aren't kids anymore, 2012 was 12 years ago. Let them have their own nostalgia crap and just accept that this ain't for you.
I agree, I grow up with the classic show, but the 2012 show is amazing...it also had some cross-over episodes with the 80's TMNT and you can see that this game will have some of that too...like here 9:57 that's the 80's Krang not the 2012 Krangs.
@@glenngriffon8032 ''teenage'' yes, but I also recall the word ''mutant'' implying that they were strong and more powerful than human teenagers, hence their bulging muscles. I do not see the appeal of taking them away. I think you are getting your times a little muddled; it's widely considered that the youngest Millenials were born in 1996, which means they would have been 16 when the show started airing and 21 in 2017 LMAO. So I think you mean Gen-Z. I am not against nostalgia for younger people, but this game didn't reach most Arcades until 2018. Regardless of age it seems tough in my opinion for anyone to feel nostalgic about something so incredibly recent, hence why I don't feel the nostalgia angle works with this one. It is the equivalent to currently feeling nostalgic about the Nintendo Switch half way through it's life cycle or me as a kid feeling nostalgic about Super Nintendo games shortly after purchasing a Nintendo 64. Fair enough some people may find it appealing, but nostalgia cannot come into the equation here - if it was only distributed 5 and half years back. A neurotypical child or teen is unlikely to experience nostalgia and they will in all likelihood be looking forward to the future since most of their lives are yet to be lived. 5 years ago = out of date, not retro.
Eh, I have to agree with everyone else here. I’ve played the game and gameplay wise it’s no worse that the original arcade game or arcade turtles in time. (where there wasn’t an actual “engine” as the slams and screen throws were random, unlike the snes one where they were actually done on command and a part of the gameplay - like shredders boss battle in the technodrome) End of the day, I’m always hyped for more beat em ups, especially ones that could become “lost” since the only way to emulate this is teknoparrot and they’ve been trying for years to get it to run and can’t, and it’s cool to have every tmnt arcade game finally available. I see this as a win all the way around.
@@TopHatGamingManChannel ''teenage'' yes, but I also recall the word ''mutant'' implying that they were strong and more powerful than human teenagers" Why? In the classic comics they get their arses kicked by some Foot Soldiers in the beginning, also Raph get his butt kicked in the movie..
My 6 year old son loves playing it at the arcade. I’m ok with buying it for him to play at home on the switch instead of giving him $10 worth of credits to play each time we go to the mini golf course.
1. I disagree that it's ugly. I like the stylized versions of the 2012 Turtles and this game nails it. 2. It's one I never got to play in the arcade, so a home release is very much welcome. 3. The only games you ever seem to give any praise to are the Street Fighter games, so I think you're really just biased.
Yeah, the 2000s games are kinda ignored sadly. Would be cool to have "Smash-Up" on there too, and maybe "Turtles in Time Reshelled," seeing as that isn't available anymore.
I never heard of this game. I'll gladly give it a try though Edit: Also any time people porting arcade games make the extra effort to add new content to the home releases instead of just copying them over they deserve support IMO.
This time I think you're overly negative... Usually I more like tend to agree. I played this game with my kids in the arcade over and over. It was perfect because it was a way to connect with something we both grew up with even though in different iterations. The game is no Shredder's Revenge given... But before SR, this was actually one of the few decent TMNT beat 'm ups since Turtles in time... Even if personally, I'm never really on board with any of Nickelodeon releases. Remember the abomination Rise of the Ninja Turtles was...
Unfortunately if you go to the trailer videos a lot of comments aren't comfortable with the visual style, it might end up getting low sales for this reason.
I Grew up with the original movie and the 2000 cartoon give the 2012 version a shot one day out of boredom and I got sucked in. It's actually pretty good
Personally I think this should of dropped on 360 when it was the era of that brand of turtles. It’s not bad but it feels very babyish…..I recently played this at a margaritaville
I just turned 40 in January. Im a life long turtles fan and was the perfect target age for the first wave of turtle-mania. I had the figures, the vehicles , the movies and of course the games. I have an entire room in my house full vintage tmnt figures, current figures, the original mirage books and various artwork. I have one of the 1up arcade machines with the deck signed by the original voice cast, and Kevin Eastman. Having said all that i cant say without hesitation that the nickelodeon series is one of the best pieces of TMNT media every produced and is, in terms of quality, the best series produced. I would even venture to say that it is matched only in quality by the 1990 movie. I recommend checking it out. The designs are different but they suit this version well after the inital viewing. The series basically a distillation of all the best parts of every version that came before adapted into something new and highly entertaining. It strikes the perfect balance between the darker tone of the mirage books and the 87 series. It even keeps that series cannon and serves as a better finale than the actual finale. Highly recommend checking it out. You might find yourself surprised.
Why has nobody reacted or given your comment the credit, lol! I just turned 37 in Feb, so I know you're timeline and I was at the birthday party with the plates and the samurai action figure the older bro gets, haha. I'm not a huge turtles fan but I think you have good credentials to anoint it. Please tell me you hated the new fortnite song though, my goodness it was like one take improv from a rapper that didn't know who they are lol
@@MLaker221 I appreciate it! I just call things as I see them. No need in gate keeping. If it's quality it's quality. Doesn't matter what generation it was released. I was initially a skeptic when the nick show was announced. I had a lot of the same complaints that other people from our generation in regards to the designs and changes that were made. I gave it a chance and it didn't take long to realize I was watching something special. As far as the fortnite content, I haven't played it. Ironically I play mostly retro arcade games lol.
When I first saw 2012's art style I thought it looked plain and uninteresting too. But upon seeing it in motion, and being treated to some damn good writing and action, I was sold. As a child of the 80s, I feel no shame calling the 2012 show the best version of Turtles ever, and since I had no idea this arcade game even existed, I'll probably pick this up. The Mutant Mayhem movie surprised me too, and though this does feel like blasphemy, it might have even been better than the 1990 original.
I've played this in arcades & enjoyed it. It's designed after the 2012 Nickelodeon series, which was great & I'm glad to see it come home. I don't think it's ugly, but I'm a massive fan of TMNT in their late 30's.
Been a turtle since the og cartoon in the 80s , this series was really good, l like the art style , I still watch it now is much better then what we had lately, I’ll probably jump on this game day 1 . Go Ninja Go
*shrugs* I’ve been following the turtles since the 90s and I liked this version and don’t think this looks so ugly. Your argument basically sounds like; “this isn’t what I’m nostalgic for so no one else can possibly be either” but you know what? We got our turtles in Shredder’s Revenge. The generation that liked this version (and it does have quite an audience) deserve their trip down nostalgia lane too
I don't disagree that theres a good chance this doesn't do well because of maybe gameplay/graphics somewhere in between but to say this looks bad is a disservice. It looks very close to the show its based on and I know myself and a lot of other folks are itching for what has been regarded as the best video game from the 2012 show.
I'm sorry, everything you said about the 2012 turtles is a terrible take. You disagreeing with the decision to make them look "childish" (aka TEENAGED) is one thing, but comparing them to spongebob?? come on dude. You obviously never even gave it a shot and quite literally judged the book by its cover. I grew up on the 89 turtles and when my son first started to watch the 2012 iteration I too was not interested in watching it, but just a few minutes of actually paying attention, I found that it EASILY blew the cartoons we grew up on out of the water. Seriously dude.. give it a shot.
I like the 80s games as much as any retro gamer would, but yeah, I tire of the retro purists who insist any version of TMNT after 1993 is "bad," or say only pixels look good, and bash 3D games... (I think old polygonal 3D games can still look as nice and nostalgic as 2D games.) 2012 TMNT honestly look better then the awful "Secret of the Ooze" or TMNT3 Muppet turtles. (Should of kept the darker look of the 1990 movie, it helped hide the flaws better.)
L take. This game is what most of us were missing from this specific generation of Turtles. I've been waiting ages for this game to re-release because it's been super hard trying to get a hold of it outside of the arcades themselves...
As a big turtles fan, 2012 was an amazing adaptation. Great portrayal of teenagers and brothers at that. Possibly the best Splinter portrayal that I have seen, and story pretty much adapts the 87 origins with a bit more edge, specifically for splinter and shredders history. The show gets dark, and kinda messed up, people actually die and get dismembered in the show. You can have your opinion about it, but I suggest actually checking it out instead of judging it by the cover. The show respected the source materials that came before it. 2012(good) >rise(bad)> mayhem(ugly) The latter 2 were trash imo, specifically that last one Idk how this game is, but hope it's good.
Agreed, he has obviously never seen the 2012 show, (or at least the great episodes/story arcs) and only liked the old stuff letting nostalgia blind him. Like people who think only the original Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy is good, and don't give anything else a chance, or that guy who was angry that Link is a blonde now.
Watch out what you're saying, 2003 series fanboys are going to lynch you for that. I think 2012 show got enough love it deserved, it's just nice to see arcade game released on modern consoles and haters won't change anything about it
@beauwalker9820 Same, actually I like all 4 shows for what they were. It just gets annoying when people whine about giving TMNT 2003 more attention when it gets attention by fans even nowadays, the thing that really needs more appreciation from that show is Fast Forward season 6. I'm tired to pretend it's a bad season, when it's clearly not, it has care, passion and creativity put into its concept, no wonder there was planned to be second season in the future.
The 2012 Nickelodeon cartoon and the IDW comics are huge reason why the Turtles are very popular again. We are even getting a Mutant Mayhem video game as well. As for the game itself, it's actually kind a fun. Not Shredder's Revenge level of good but better than Turtles in Time Re-shelled/remake
Hey, speak for yourself. I can’t speak to the game, but as someone who grew up with the original turtles, I for one would love to see them revisit the 2012 series. I was initially as put off as you are, but having shared it with my daughters growing up, I can now say that It’s easily up there with the best of the franchise. If you haven’t tested the waters yet, you might want to consider giving it a shot. May be a safer bet than playing the game, from the sound of it. 😉
I really don't get the hate, but unfortunately with a majority of harsh criticism in the trailers, I don't see it getting good sales. Already preordered the PS5 version.
Yeah gonna have to say you missed the mark with this one. I’m 40 now, grew up watching the original turtles cartoon and imo The 2012 TMNT is better than the original. The game isn’t that bad either, not much different than the TMNT turtles in time game imo.
The '87 series was a major part of my childhood. As much as I love it, it's not the masterpiece I remember it as. Honestly I like the 2012 version the best. It has the cheesy humor of the '87 series, as well as the darker tone of the '03 series. Not to mention, brought back a TON of characters.
@@Benjamillioneven my niece hated that 2018 fat, couch potato, Yoda version, and she named one of her pet rats "Splinter." The new afro, glasses, movie version isn't much better, as he lacks his wisdom, doesn't teach the turtles ninjitsu, (they learn it from the Internet) and is flat out prejudiced against humans basically acting like a typical cranky old man stereotype. 2012 Splinter was the last awesome Splinter.
Im a fan of the 2012 TMNT show. It was the last great TMNT show we received cause rise was terrible and dont get me started on last years movie. This game will be a great addition to the turtles console games.
Fan of 2012 TMNT here, totally disagree about Rise, even with different approach from its predecessor its still one if not the hest Nickelodeon show of late 2010's
hahahahhahaha you knew exactly how passionate the TMNT community is, and used the right words to create the engagement, well played! as for the game it makes no sense comparing the game to new Beat 'em ups, obvious reasons me personally was waiting for this since it is the only turtle game with no way to play or emulate, so this is very well welcomed, also TMTN 2012 has one of the best storytelling and best representation of character personalities for me, and I grew up with the OG, so yeah I think a LOT of people was waiting and are happy for this "Ugly" game lol
This game was actually a pleasant surprise. At a time when we had no arcade games or arcades really. I found a machine in Las Vegas and played with my kids and nieces and nephews, to my surprise everyone actually had a blast lol. Not the best game but for what it is and for releasing an actually arcade machine it was pretty awesome. I already have a copy reserved for the Nintendo switch.
I’m looking forward to this. Arcades were dead in my city when this came out. I enjoyed the series and own it on DVD along with the original and the 2003 series.
The game looks fine to me. I never understood the hype with the 87 series. I had a vhs tape of it when I was a kid and thought the show was alright. I love the 2003 series. I still haven't watched 2012 or Rise. I saw that TMNT 2012 got a complete series dvd release, so I'll be picking it up soon. A lot of the 87 series fans just seem like a bunch of boomers who think new = bad. Old = good. It just reminds me of Mario fans who cling to Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 knowing those games aged terribly, but they'll swear up and down that the New Super Mario Bros games are god-awful.
2012 Turtles was a fantastic show. It had serial storytelling and spot-on characterization, even opting for movie style tough Raph over jokey Raph (which always seemed redundant to Mike, who's always silly). The action is good, the Turtles are still formidable, April is a peer. It worked. I'm writing this as a mid forties guy who grew up with 1987, btw... The game? Graphically it doesn't look as nice as the pixel games, especially Shredder's Revenge, but I bet it's fun.
At the end of the day its gameplay that matters, many games have underwhelming or outdated graphics yet they're still loved because they have lot of other things to offer.
@@ashesGeekand sometimes even old graphics can have appeal Honestly the graphics aren't that outdated, cartoonier games don't look too different now then they did a decade ago.
2012 Raphael still smart mouths though, so I saw him as a combination of the hot headed Raphael and sarcastic versions. Which I like as it's the best of both versions.
@@Low_Standards_Gaming_YT Yeah, Top Hat Gaming Man is incredibly biased, and nostalgia-blind... His criticism of the 2012 turtles designs remind me of those lunatic retro Sonic fanboys that complain about Sonic having green eyes...
3:55 TMNT the next mutation is an abomination. NOT 2012. 2012 actually looks good compared to most of the other versions. I’d go as far as to say that the turtles look better in 2012 than they did in any other form. They definitely look better than 1987 and 2003. They look better than Rise (even though Rise does look amazing), and they look better than Mutant mayhem. And that goes for the side characters too. I think the only character that looks better in a different version is Shredder (which Rise takes). Not trying to be mean, just stating my opinion. I just feel like you should at least give 2012 some credit for some things (like the story). It doesn’t deserve to be hated.
I thought the 2012 series' designs looked ugly when the show debuted, but compared to later versions it looks great! My little cousins have gotten into reruns of the show so I've recently seen a few episodes and it (writing wise) wasn't too bad. The episodes I saw were teaching good lessons to kids but not too preachy, either. The lessons were woven into the story.
I liked how they handled one lesson cleverly when Raphael claimed in order to stop the bad guys they have to be as "bad" as they are. However, when they try that by threatening to harm one of the bad guys to force another to surrender, it doesn't work, as the other baddie doesn't care about his partner. Even Raphael realizes he can't follow through with that threat, and let's him go. That's a good subtle lesson that evil doesn't care about evil, and trying to stoop to their level won't work in your favor, and it only makes situations worse.
Wow, TMNT does have the gen-wunner problem. I never wondered it, but now I know. The 2012 series isn't my favorite, but it was consistently pretty solid. I feel like you're really coming down unnecessarily hard on it, when we have abominations like Rise and the most-recent movie to compare it to. They're preserving an arcade title that would've died otherwise, and it looks competent. So what's the problem?
Still not uglier than mutant mayhem or rises designs IMO. As far as the game I've played it at Dave & Busters it's not bad just not as good as the 90s tmnt beat em ups but if rawthrills were smart they'd make it online. This was their biggest mistake with Cruis n blast. Great game ported to the Switch but was going to have online but sadly they pulled it.
Yeah I love it too and a big Cruis'N fan I just wished it had online play it would have made the game better but I digress. He did say he'd like to one day put out a Cruis' N collection! That would be awesome!
Agree to disagree, im waiting for its release, im a fan of the TMNT since the original cartoon and comics came out and have seen all the versions of the Turtles, the 2012 tv series was the first one i saw with my daughter and she loved them, im sure we'll have an awesome time playing that game, maybe you dislike how they look, but there are people that actually like them a lot, including me.
Worst turtle take ever, this video is basically "I don't like this iteration of the turtles and they got no muscles, so this show and game is bad and no one should like it, old good new bad 🤬" can't we all just agree that all the mainline shows are good the way they are? (1987, 2k3, 2k12, 2k18)
Seeing this tmnt arcade in dave and busters years ago made me a little bitter thinking it was just a arcade only exclusive that would be forgotten when it was no longer making money. For that reason i didnt go near it. I am happy to see that companies are giving new life to these games. The quality may be not be super high but i will take it with a few updates. There were also simple 2 or 3 button style DC and marvel games that were in dave and busters. They were fun to play and they gave you scannable character cards to keep. Maybe those will wind up in the home console market too.
I still have some of those cards lol. And yeah, older arcade games deserve home versions. I'm shocked Nintendo ignores the Mario Kart/Luigi's Mansion/F-Zero arcade games. (Probably because they didn't make them.)
played this in the arcade 4 players and oh boy this feels like a very tightened up version of the old school games though it looks like nick toons where in shines is it's presentation and sound they really did a bang up job of making this a 'Raw Thrill' lol aND again the sound effects and voices are killer. cant really compare shredders revenge as they are 2 different fighting mechanics
Omg dude, what's your beef with the 2012 version. I'm old enough to have grown up with the 87 version. I played all the games. My favorite iteration of them is the current IDW run. The 2012 version is easily my 2nd favorite. Did you watch the series? Did you see the references? Did you see the actual combat? The 2012 series has the most deaths. I'm kinda shocked you don't like it. That being said, the game looks low budget.
It's ok not to like 2012 series, but using the argument "The creators took away all the muscles and made them soy" is so bizarre. I get why people didn't like Donnie tooth gap or even maybe Mikey's freckles, but I haven't heard anybody complain about that
@@ashesGeekwhich I don't understand because they still look muscular to me... Even Donatello as thin as he is has some muscle detail if you look closely. I like the tooth gap and freckles. I like how each turtle looks more distinct, though not as wildly distinct as the 2018 ones.
@beauwalker9820 That is kinda hypocritical since these people were and are complaining that Michael Bay Turtles were too buff yet when characters don't have muscles on their muscles it's outrageous and disgraceful. Then again, it's the same category of people who were nitpicking about 2012 Turtles having 3 toes instead of 2 even though their feet look much more appealing, especially since they're covered in bandages
2012 turtles are not the ugliest and this game play is not that bad not character designs I think some fans just don't like change other than that love your video
Downvoted. Any turtles fan will tell you that the 2012 series was one of the best iterations of the franchise. This was released prior to the resurgence of beat-em-ups and it's a game I've always wanted to try out but inaccessible to me due to it being in arcades. It also bothered me about what your mental image of a man should be based on the your comments on muscles and 'young lads aspiring to grow into strong men.' Someone else commented how this sounded like 'This isn't my version of the turtles so I don't like it' and it sure sounds like it.
Unfortunately there are some TMNT fans out there that ended their show viewing at the 2003 series. The IGN trailer for this game has quite a lot of comments taking jabs at the art style of 2012.
I'm sorry you don't like this iteration of the 'Turtles. 😕 It's admittedly not my favorite, either, but it's one of their best showings, writing/direction wise. I actually hated the character design initially myself but I got over it eventually and now even find it charming in its own right. I finally started watching clips a few years back, and *knew* I needed to see it someday, which I finally started on a couple weeks ago tbh (and it _is_ great so far). I'll probably buy this game, though certainly I will remain cautiously optimistic-we'll see if it's any good after I try it, and only then pass judgement.
Glad you started watching, there's so much fanservice in the show for longtime fans, The show does peak at a point but even still it's my absolute favorite version of the TMNT at the time.
I honestly don't think the 2012 designs are that bad, and they still look muscular to me. I also kinda like each turtle looking distinct from each other kinda like the original 1990 movie. I prefer them over the 2018, and 2023 designs. I also actually like the 2012 series better then the newer versions, so I think it's cool to revisit that era again. It's an underrated era, and even Kevin Eastman said he liked the 2012 show. Also, your assertion that kids don't care for "beat em ups," my nieces and nephews LOVE old and new beat em ups, like Streets of Rage, the old TMNT, and such. Also, Raw Thrills is basically modern Midway, as that's where most of the Midway developers went when Midway went out of business. Nintendo even let them revive the "Cruise'N" series in arcade and Switch with "Cruise'N Blast" which was a cool game. So the developer team is actually quite good and experienced with arcade style games. I never played the game, but I've seen the arcade somewhere before and thought it looked alright. I think honestly guys like you are letting your nostalgia clog your judgement, especially that "pixels over polygons" argument. (Arguably you can't even see the polygons in this game, it honestly looks pretty modern to me.) Dude, I grew up with low polygon games, I think polygonal games can look as good as 2D pixel art, so I think it's a shame many write off "polygon games as bad graphics," yet gush over how "good" 8-bit games look. (I like 8-bit games, but how can you say those have good graphics yet 32/64 bit games don't?) I still think Ocarina of Time and StarFox look good, I don't care what anyone says.
Hey TopHat, I normally love your content but you have lately been falling on a huge nostalgia trap where it seems your only criticisim is "Nostalgia better, new or newer bad.". This port is not going to hurt you or stop anyone from enjoying any of the other dozen versions of TMNT games. This and your take on street fighter 6 where you go "Oh I dont like it so nobody else does." Is just a bit too much of an old man shaking his crane at clouds. Your content is great, man, but nostalgia is just that, we gotta embrace change, diversity and progression as, whether you like it or not, new generations are cinstantky forming new nostalgia for things they're growing up with, new traditions are also being formed all the time.
The sad part about this port is that arcade operators are complaining this cost rhem an exlusive and it's a better version for consumers. Of course we have the very same complaints about games we can never get our hands on for various reasons.
I usually agree with a lot of your takes, but I believe you're wrong on this one. I played TMNT on NES in 1989, in the arcade in 1989, watched it on TV from 1988 to about 1993, played TMNT turtles in time on SNES and the arcade as well as Hyperstone Heist and tournament fighters, so I'm well versed in TMNT. I played this game in the arcade in 2017 and loved it! I'm glad it's FINALLY coming out, though I wish it had been on the Cowabunga Collection 2 along with the 2000s era TMNT games. This is a great game, don't knock it until you try it.
Another great home arcade port is "Cruise'N Blast." It even includes the arcade game as a mode, and has a lot of hilarious unlockable cars. (Including a hammerhead shark.)
2012 TMNT are maybe the best ones. I grew up with 2003 version, but the 2012 version was the one that fully lived upt to the name of them being teenagers and ninjas. 2003 verison had nothing to do with them being teenagers and the old cartoon had nothing to do with them being actual ninjas. My favorite version of TMNT is the comic book from 2011 and 2012 cartoon took some of the best parts from it. The worst thing about 2012 version is that some of the cgi designs were awful. The storyline was also more focused on mutating the villains wich was pretty cool and some of the cgi worked well for them.
I mean, my favourite series is the Rise TMNT--and I grew up with the 87 Turtles--even watched the first movie in the theatres (I am an ancient evil, first brought onto the world long ago in the distance past of the 1900s) That being said... "ugly" is prolly not the best word for it--as it does make an attempt to follow the style the show went by for the 2k12 Turtles The better issue here is how it seems to oversimplify the style and various elements present in the 2k12 Turtles. As it looks like it is dropping some rather key parts of the style, to speed up putting out this game. A graphical overhaul would involving looking at what this dropped from how the 2k12 TMNT did their stuff, and restoring those elements into the game Also, can we stop calling all the new TMNT "ugly" as our initial response to them? The old foggies in the 80s who didn't care for the TMNT of that time also thought those turtles were gross and ugly. They also had the benefit of pointing to how much of the toys involved "slime" or "ooze"--with trash and sewer systems being highly present. Though, even with some stuff they can point at--we don't want to associate ourselves with them, do we?

I am especially happy about this promotion because I was expecting to get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection at a really good price with 50% more discount. 😀
I myself can say that I am a fan of the classic TMNT TV series since my childhood and even if I could only watch the episodes of the first 3 seasons in my native language, it is good to know that other TMNT stories were shown by the developers employed at the video game company called Konami. 🙂
Getting a home console port of an arcade exclusive is NEVER a bad thing, regardless of how many changes Gamemill does or doesn't make to it.
Are these the people who made Gollum and the walking dead and Kong island?

2012 Turtles is way too underrated and hated for no reason
Except it isn't underrated as it was rated EXTREMELY well by the majority.
I used to hate the 2012 turtles than I saw the Next Mutation and decided to give 2012 a chance
When was it ever underrated? It literally brought popularity back to the franchise after the tv rights collected dust for a decade.

Fun fact, Kevin Eastman a co-creator for TMNT called it the best adaptation of TMNT he ever saw. That's big praise, considering he and Peter Laird weren't too fond of the original 1980s/90s show.

the 2k12 nick series has gone down as one of the best incarnations of the turtles and lots of people are big fans of it and wish it would come back. that said, there's been no hint of that happening and a new videogame for this version is absolutely out of left field and unexpected
Agree
I mean, the 2k12 story has been fully told though. There is only a couple small minor things to go over at this point
It having a presence though, would be good/decent... but new stories set into it, would only seem cheap and hollow. For any example, let's look at how the 2003 Turtles got handled (to some degree)
.... Garbage knockoff tutles show for SpongeBob fans. Fox Kids 2003 TMNT is the best and most accurate to the OG Eastman & Laird comic 😎👍
@@TexasHollowEarthy'know Kevin Eastman liked the 2012 show, and called it the "best version of TMNT" he ever saw. So you obviously never saw it aside from the more humorous episodes. @@NimhLabs there's more to be told the 2k12 series still had major plot holes
This game also gets 6 additional levels the arcade does not have. Can't wait.
That's actually impressive, because the NES version of the first arcade game only added 2 levels, and SNES "Turtles in Time" only added one.
I loved the running gag that the turtles loved retro cartoons, similar to how some kids watch their parents old 80s/90s videos and such.
They're all about 15-16 (which kinda makes their relationship with a 23 year old April a little creepy)
We of gen x will always have people catering to our nostalgia but the young millennials aren't kids anymore, 2012 was 12 years ago.
(where there wasn’t an actual “engine” as the slams and screen throws were random, unlike the snes one where they were actually done on command and a part of the gameplay - like shredders boss battle in the technodrome)
End of the day, I’m always hyped for more beat em ups, especially ones that could become “lost” since the only way to emulate this is teknoparrot and they’ve been trying for years to get it to run and can’t, and it’s cool to have every tmnt arcade game finally available.
I see this as a win all the way around.

You disagreeing with the decision to make them look "childish" (aka TEENAGED) is one thing, but comparing them to spongebob?? come on dude.

2012 Turtles was the best series of the franchise. If you didn't watch it, you really missed out.
I feel like 2k3 and 2k12 are incredibly close to the "Best TMNT show" title
I am hyped. Hope they release Turtles in time HD remake again. Sony removed my right to play It.
I’m looking forward to this. Arcades were dead in my city when this came out. I enjoyed the series and own it on DVD along with the original and the 2003 series.
Mutant Mayhem was pretty good and I believe would make for a good game adaptation if given the same love as Shredder's Revenge.
Mutant Mayhem was better than expected, SuperFly(Ice Cube) really carried the movie.
2012 turtles is prime made for kids body horror and I fucking loved it.
@@ashesGeekand sometimes even old graphics can have appeal
Honestly the graphics aren't that outdated, cartoonier games don't look too different now then they did a decade ago.
2012 Raphael still smart mouths though, so I saw him as a combination of the hot headed Raphael and sarcastic versions. Which I like as it's the best of both versions.
Oh my goodness!!! Been waiting forever for someone to port this over to console!!!!
Well F you because it’s not his Turtles lol 🎉. Thanks for proving a point . This is so much more relevant than he seems to think it is

@Low_Standards_Gaming_YT - EVERYTHING about your profile + this comment checks out ☠
@@Low_Standards_Gaming_YT Yeah, Top Hat Gaming Man is incredibly biased, and nostalgia-blind...
2012 TMNT was the best but rise and mutant mayhem was awful
My brother played it at the arcade and loved it. I always wanted this game on home consoles now I will get a chance to play it at home.
The problem is some are just blind to nostalgia. I say that as someone who loves the old games too, even the butthard NES game.
Regardless I still loved Cruis'N Blast and I'm glad Nintendo and Raw Thrills revived the "Cruise'N" series.
Yeah I love it too and a big Cruis'N fan I just wished it had online play it would have made the game better but I digress. He did say he'd like to one day put out a Cruis' N collection! That would be awesome!
Ya know, those are not the ugliest design for the TMNT. I have seen uglier. Here are three words for ya:
MICHAEL
BAY
DUALOGY
Or The Next Mutation
2012 turtles was a good show, as far as this game goes, it doesn’t look as good as shredders revenge. I’m sure the gsme will still be fun though.
This entire video is a straight up heel promo and I love it LMAO 😂😂
I hope this means we are going to get more 2012 TMNT
(Probably because they didn't make them.)
played this in the arcade 4 players and oh boy this feels like a very tightened up version of the old school games though it looks like nick toons where in shines is it's presentation and sound they really did a bang up job of making this a 'Raw Thrill' lol
aND again the sound effects and voices are killer. cant really compare shredders revenge as they are 2 different fighting mechanics
The animated tv series was actually dope idk wat ur talkin bout it wasn’t even corny
I played this game on vacation a few years back and had a lot of fun with it and I’m excited for this port!
Cowaboomer calling the 2012's designs "Lacking of detail" while the 87 turtles look exactly the same....
I’m going to buy it. I wish there was some way I could get Turtles in Time: Reshelled too.
Same
This is Reshelled, but better 😉
We need ... golden axe
(Arguably you can't even see the polygons in this game, it honestly looks pretty modern to me.)
Dude, I grew up with low polygon games, I think polygonal games can look as good as 2D pixel art, so I think it's a shame many write off "polygon games as bad graphics," yet gush over how "good" 8-bit games look.
Granted not many arcades have it now, and it's nearly a decade old, so it's overdo for a home release.
I love this version of the tmnt ,my best cartoon series that I still like
I usually agree with a lot of your takes, but I believe you're wrong on this one.
Agreed, the 2000s games deserve a collection or rerelease too.
Your sponsored ad is full of charm
Arcade ports are not that common nowadays, so I feel like I would want to support this simply on the principle of that. I hope it's a good release.
I mean, my favourite series is the Rise TMNT--and I grew up with the 87 Turtles--even watched the first movie in the theatres (I am an ancient evil, first brought onto the world long ago in the distance past of the 1900s)
That being said... "ugly" is prolly not the best word for it--as it does make an attempt to follow the style the show went by for the 2k12 Turtles
The better issue here is how it seems to oversimplify the style and various elements present in the 2k12 Turtles. As it looks like it is dropping some rather key parts of the style, to speed up putting out this game. A graphical overhaul would involving looking at what this dropped from how the 2k12 TMNT did their stuff, and restoring those elements into the game
Also, can we stop calling all the new TMNT "ugly" as our initial response to them? The old foggies in the 80s who didn't care for the TMNT of that time also thought those turtles were gross and ugly. They also had the benefit of pointing to how much of the toys involved "slime" or "ooze"--with trash and sewer systems being highly present. Though, even with some stuff they can point at--we don't want to associate ourselves with them, do we?
Man... I really would like to see the 2003 TMNT return..🥲
Idk, i liked the 2012 designs too
Brian “Streets of” Cage sighting!
He deserves a way bigger push. Guy looks like a Mad Max supervillain + he wrestles badass 😎👍
