I appreciate you mentioning the "Embrace the Dark" character design contest, as it inspired me to start working on OC ideas. I still enjoy hearing DS fans speculate about possible characters... there's just so much potential for a new game.
Darkstalkers 4 character ideas: The first 18 characters from the past three games. Characters that have appeared but have never been unique playable characters *Dee* (He would be both playable and act as the game’s final boss) *Anita* *Marionette* *Shadow* *Khaibit* Brand new characters *Voshtal* - a green devil with the power to control plant life. *Akaen* - a female red oni that can control fire. *Erik* - a once famous opera singer who after suffering an on stage accident was left severally scarred across his face and forced to wear a mask to hide his scars. After finding out that it was not an accident but an act of sabotage, he is now on a path of vengeance. *Ki2Ne* - Originally a guardian fox spirit named Sakuya who now moonlights as a famous J-Rock singer named Ki2Ne. She sees Felicia as her rival and has shown to have a crush on Jon Talbain. *O'Lantern* - a scarecrow with a jack o'lantern for a head that is possessed by the spirit of a dead farm hand. *Quasi* - a gargoyle that acts as the guardian of Dee's castle. *Trexx* - an alien with the appearance of a small blue T-Rex. *Mr Eddy Hyde* - the physical manifestation of the darker half of the kind scientist Dr Henry Jekyll. *Ooblii* - a sentient female humanoid slime monster. *Wechuge* - a Wendigo that was accidentally released from its ancient prison. *Agnes* - an ancient elderly witch with powerful dark magic. *Brynhild* - a Valkyrie from the heavens. *Jolly Johnny* - a former birthday clown turned psychotic serial killer. *Beel* - a dark fae searching for a way to become a light fae. *Sophia* - a young witch in training who was a former apprentice of the witch Agnes but left her after opposing her dark methods. She now travels the world in search of a new teacher to learn under. *Medusa* - a gorgon queen that seeks for a way to rid herself of the ancient curse that causes her to turn others who look at her to stone. *Rakshasa* - a demigod with the appearance of a humanoid tiger who serves as the guardian of an ancient city in India. *Anna* - a demigoddess who is the child of the spider god Anansi. *Kurama* - a young tengu who seeks to free his people from imprisonment. *Ikabod Krane* - a Dullahan or headless horseman. Guest characters *Amingo* *Ruby Heart* *SonSon* *Tessa* from Red Earth *Arthur* from Ghosts' N Goblins *Dante* from Devil May Cry Sorry if this was so long. I had to put this somewhere.
Add in Ingrid too because she's waaay more suited here than in Street fighter. Her supernatural powers are way fitting here and a being who uses the powers of light can balance most of the dark powers seen in the games.
I would Honestly Cut Dante from this game. Mainly because Dante ALREADY HAS a POPULAR STREAK A MILE LONG! Darkstalkers has been in the Literal Shadow of Street Fighter and Devil May Cry for almost 30 Years at this point!
Other Guest Characters I’d add are Q from SF 3 Final Impact since his entire past and origins is a mystery and he seems to be unnatural, Akuma since his teleportation and Raging Demon fit in nicely with the series, and Jill Valentine/Leon Kennedy who are investigating reports of monsters attacking humans worldwide. Maybe Necro and Twelve from SF 3 Final Impact as the human made creatures of the game.
@@danielramsey6141 I definitely get where you're coming from, but this logic is precisely why they SHOULD add Dante as a guest character. The reason Darkstalkers gets treated like the redheaded stepchild of Capcom fighters is because of a perceived lack of popularity and widespread appeal. Adding a popular guest character to the mix is how you pull in people who might ordinarily not care about Darkstalkers. Just look at how many Street Fighter fans who couldn't care less about Tekken suddenly became interested when they brought Akuma into the fray. One of the best ways to bring something out of the shadow of something else is by leveraging the appeal of the very thing they're in the shadow of.
Damn, this was way better than Thorgi’s vid. All of the guests make sense and there is actual new characters. For shadow’s moveset, I would have it use moves from dormant Capcom franchises.
Some hypothetical additions that I have thought up: * A male Gorgon who can not only turn opponents to stone, but also any part of his body into snake heads or tails to attack. * An animated scarecrow cowboy with a crow familiar, who acts as a rival to Lord Raptor and, unlike him, is loyal to Ozomu. * An onryo, who is really not vengeful, but very shy and kind of adorable, yet terrifying when pushed. * A mantis-man mutant, inspired by The Fly as well The Guyver and Kamen Rider Shin. * Harry Grimory from the cartoon. He's an awkward young wizard. * Firebrand from Demon's Crest as a guest character. * An androgynous angel, who shapeshifts in various "biblically accurate" ways, as the final boss.
@@crencottrell7849 Well, the onryo is female. And Darkstalers has so many iconic ones already; I couldn't come up with any at the level of Morrigan, Lilith, Felicia, or B.B. Hood.
Maybe an unpopular opinion. "Lilith should come back as Morrigan sister in an Angel form, just like her initial concept started." No need to change her drasticaly, just replace her Bat motives with feathers or something.
Tessa from Red Earth seems like a natural pick to add to a potential new Darkstalkers game. A witch character would fit right in amongst all these monster guys as a classic horror trope as well.
15:45 I thought up of a similar function, so when you boot up most fighting games these days we should be able to choose between a NORMAL Mode where you unlock everything by yourself (excluding DLC) and a TOURNAMENT Mode where everything is unlocked by default, however you don't get achievements by playing this option
Having a Tengu as a fighter is a great idea! I would pick the Karasu Tengu versus the red-faced tengu, though, as the Karasu Tengu would find into the "cocky bird character" archetype that a lot of video games use, and crows fit the "spooky" aesthetic of Darkstalkers more.
Loved this video! It’s cool to see someone else who was inspired by the Thorgi build a roster videos! I just did my own today on MvC, on my channel but I must admit this one is definitely better quality lol. Good job!
The exciting thing about a Darkstalkers 4 is they can bring characters from exclusive versions like Shadow, Marionette, Dee and a grown up Anita for people who have not played or experienced these characters at all. I absolutely adore the idea of bringing in the MVC2 Trio of Ruby Heart, Amingo and Sonson! Spider-Man alone would bring so much clout to Darkstalkers and continue the fanart he gets with Morrigan. I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t consider Tessa from Red Earth at all, she was in Super Gem Fighter and is that Witch Archetype we are missing, she would fit nicely along with the cast, other than that great video.
A fun one would be Cecil, the young lad that follows Huitzil. Since we've had a time skip, maybe he's repurposed some older Huitzil tech into weapons for personal protection and Armour.
An idea for a new character is that the dark hunters creat a series of robots that are made to specifically hunt darkstalkers similar to the sentinels from X-Men specifically from days of future's past when they can adapted to any specific darkstalkers' power amd develop powers that are specifically made to counter them
My character ideas for a Darkstalkers game and their names: 1. *Dell O’Hann* - A Dullahan who wields both a sword and a whip made from a human vertebra. He can also throw his disembodied head to bite and headbutt opponents. 2. *Medusa, Jr.* - A Gorgon who wears a pair of sunglasses. She will have a snake’s tail instead of legs that she can whip and constrict her opponents with, and as a Gorgon, she can petrify her enemies. Additionally, she can also spit venom from her snake hair. Her backstory shows that she also happens to be a high school student and a UA-camr, and she also loves to cosplay. 3. *Saurus* - A lizardman who came from deep in the Amazon Rainforest. His moveset involves biting, scratching, and tail whipping. Additionally, he can also transform into a fire-breathing Tyrannosaurus rex (as a lizardman, his moveset will be based on Reptile from Mortal Kombat and Lizardman from Soul Calibur, and as a T-rex, his moveset will be based on Sauron and Diablo from Primal Rage and Hauzer from Red Earth). 4. *Skull* - A skeleton warrior who can dismantle himself to attack opponents as well as used a sword and shield (he also wields a bow and a boomerang). He’s based on Spinal from Killer Instinct. 5. *Drakon* - An anthropomorphic dragon that can attack using his talons, fangs, wings, and tail as well as fire breath to fight his opponents. His moveset will be based on Ridley from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. 6. *Marina Tiburon* - A mermaid who came from the ruins of Atlantis and wields a trident. She has a shark motif and can transform from human form to mermaid form (she will be based on Ellen Joe from Zenless Zone Zero). Since she is based on a shark, she can also attack her opponents by biting and tail whipping. Additionally, she can also summon aquatic animals to assist her (sharks, piranhas, eels, killer whales, and a kraken). 7. *Kojira* - A kaiju who can size-shift from human-sized to Godzilla-sized (in fact, he IS based on Godzilla). His moveset will be inspired from kaiju movies and tokusatsu shows (including an atomic breath, his moveset will be based on Godzilla fighting games, Rampage, and Gigabash). When he grows to kaiju size, he will do the “rise” pose from Ultraman. His backstory shows that he loves performing in both kaiju movies and kids’ shows as well as advertisements and PSAs (in-universe, he’s also known as the “Friend to All Children”, as a reference to Gamera). His story mode’s good ending will involve him advertising an official action figure of himself and his true ending involves him performing a stage show for kids at an orphanage for charity. 8. *Mothman* - A Mothman (obviously) from Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He will be portrayed as a gothic character with psychic powers. He can hypnotize and swoop down at his opponents, and his backstory shows that he was the one who tried to warn people about the Silver Bridge collapse. His good ending involves him becoming the hero of Point Pleasant, and his true ending will involve him becoming a vigilante hero. 9. *Zeta Reticuli* (note: codename, his true name is unpronounceable to humans) - An alien scientist who was previously a prisoner in Area 51. He can use psychic powers as well as alien tech and specimens of alien plants, fungi, and parasites to attack his opponents. 10: *Arachne* - A spider monster (she has a female human upper body and a spider’s legs and abdomen). Her species is the natural predator of Q-Bee’s species. Her moves involve shooting webbing, injecting venom via biting, and skewering opponents using her eight legs.
Loving the roster, though you missed Cecil, the little boy who accompanies Huitzil! He could easily become a mad scientist character. Give him a zoning moveset where he creates floating turret nodes that pepper the opponent. Make him VERY futuristic. Some more character ideas: A genie character. Lots of magic, comes from a magic lamp, and could be the final boss of an Arcade Mode, where he grants the wish of the winner… but screws them over. This would leave Dee as the final boss of a story mode instead. Arthur could be a copy of the classic Arthur we know, but both a member of the Dark Hunter Association, and a potential superboss for the game. He’s essentially a descendent of the original. A Van Helsing. A Dark Hunter who is part of the legendary Van Helsing family line. They could easily be both an arch enemy to Demitri and potentially a rival to Anita. A dragon maid. ‘Cuz why not? I say we could use a dragon character, so put her in! Human maid, but can transform parts of her body into dragon body parts. There are so many character ideas you can go with. You can have holiday-inspired ones like a Cupid stand-in, Krampus, or Easter Bunny. You could reference other media, like a headless horseman with a flaming pumpkin (Sleepy Hollow), the fairies Titania or Oberon (Midsummer Night’s Dream), or go full-on religious (Azazel the fallen angel, trickster god Loki, the Native American Thunderbird). And there’s plenty of 3rd Party reps too. Maybe Dan Hibiki, but he can tap into the Satsui no Hadou more easily. Rose Winters who can use her special powers freely here. A MegaMan Battle Network character who somehow exists despite being made of code. Red Earth’s Tessa as a witch or Hauzer as a dino dragon. This video has given me more character ideas to think about! We need more vids like this!
Great video! I feel Tessa from red earth would work wonders in darkstalkers given they had a crossover manga. X3 Though, Mei Ling (Hsienkos sister) would be an awesome inclusion given how much we actually see her in darkstalkers Media such as comics, the ova, her game cameos, etc
The final boss should be a huge full screen character like the MvC bosses since they're fun to play against (except for the cheap moves and high damage). Maybe one of the demon lords of Makai perhaps? Talbain should have his human form as a playable character with a slightly different moveset or, at the very least, it should be an alternate costume. There should be a mad scientist character that hunts Darkstalkers for the purpose of capturing and experimenting on them. There should also be a magician/wizard/warlock character whose play style is that of a zoner like Dr Strange or JP. Other supernatural related guest characters from existing Capcom franchises could be Chris, Jill, Wesker or Nemesis from Resident Evil, Tessa from Red Earth, Rose or Menat from Street Fighter, Ingrid from Fighting Jam, one of the Monster Hunters, etc. And Akuma should be a hidden challenger if you fulfil certain conditions because he's always looking for stronger fighters. He could even be wearing the Dirty Beret outfit in the Vampire Savior intro!
I think a more fitting guest character that's probably be more realistic than Spider-Man would be Dio Brando, since Capcom made that JoJo fighting game
Personally I think it'd be kick-ass if Akuma showed up at some point. I mean he's canonically in Tekken now, so he could just have dimensional travel ability by now.
I’ve created my own new characters too. The Invisible Man who is a Graffiti artist, a Gargoyle Mafioso, a Nine tailed Korean fox girl, a gorgon fashion designer, a pirate skeleton with a ghostly form of Captain Calico,a gentlemanly Hyde, an Arabian Djinn with a lantern for a head, an Archangel, and a character named Sander Van Hellsing. I also incorporated Shadow, Marrionette, Dee, and Anita, as well as the comic exclusive Majorette and Thomas (witch and catman). I also decided to remove Lilith, Jedah, Pyron, and Victor adding them back as DLC but removing them from the main story since Lilith is part of Morrigan now, Victor gave his life for Emily, Jedah is dead, and Pyron was sent back to space. As an added bonus I toyed with the idea of Dhalsim, Blanka, or Akuma joining the game since each one has monster like traits (Dhalsim being some demihuman, Blanka being the jungle boy, and Akuma being a “demon”) And the random select would basically be Eleven from Street Fighter 5
I definitely agree with Thorgi’s thoughts on the DMC characters like Dante and Nero! Any one of those Characters will overshadow the Darkstalkers Cast due to the gap in popularity and the Amount of time that both series have had relevance! In order for a Darkstalkers Game to Succeed, it Needs another fighter, or a Spin-off franchise other Another Crossover game!
Shadow is good, but since there’s so many Shadows running around (no pun intended) he’ll probably need a different name. Maybe something like Dusk, Bleak, or Dym.
An idea I had was "Megaman" But its actually a demon taking the form of a famous character, like Sonic.EXE. Really playing on the goofiness of creepypasta culture, maybe have a Ben Drowned type backstory.
I like your Dullahan but you could cheat a little and use who I think is a fan fav anime girl with Durarara's Celty. She could be fun in this universe with the motorcycle and such
If DarkStalkers can build a large fanbase n recognition, like it once did so many yrs ago for Capcom, I hope that when Capcom does another new verses series, that Capcom work alongside ArcSysWrks as the product development team benefactor. DarkStalkers will finally have achieved 2D/3D model work us fans of the DarkStalkers franchise have always longed for, made by the best fighting game developer currently in the gaming industry ArcSysWrks. Hopefully, we can finally get my dream game crossover, DarkStalkers verses Guilty Gear, developer ArcSysWrks and production Capcom. To me that will be much bigger than the MvC franchise ever was, with no limitations to what these developers can bring into their game.
Lastly since we got MvC Collection underway n Capcom fighting game devs wanting to make more crossover, it's a possibility DarkStalkers can return fully be remodeled from the ground up and make a return, thanks to Morrigan in mvc3 n Jedah in mvc infinite.
Twelve and Q would also fit in nicely. Q has been implied to be possibly an android and his origins and past are still unknown. And disasters happen wherever he appears. What if the final boss and antagonist of this hypothetical game was Q’s creator and the one controlling him? Twelve could fit in by being a rep for a human made bio weapon and his moveset would work in a game like Darkstalkers.
@@nicksokolowski7709. You're not the only one. Hell, even in Thorgi's video on Darkstalkers 4, he directly stated that, if Dante were added, the game would immediately turn into "Dante and His Amazing Friends". (Of course, adding Spider-Man like in THIS video would make that overshadowing even worse.)
I'm all for a dark stalkers 4 But what they need to do is not to omit any characters but they also need to add a few There should be a dullahan A Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde mad doctor A hunchback A gargoyle A witch A sorcerer A priest A banshee A mutant A swamp creature An insect creature A limia A golem A living doll
Some of those already exist. But It would be super interesting to see the Characters from the “Darkstalkers Create a Character Contest” so many Years back! Cause a lot of those ideas for monsters made it into Art!
Monster archetypes I want to see in Darkstalkers 4: Dullahan Gray alien Gorgon Lizardman Mermaid (specifically, the darker, sinister aspects of the mermaid legend) Kaiju (will be a sizeshifter who can change from human-sized to kaiju-sized) Mothman Giant spider
40:17. Absolutely not. Nero was already pushing it in this regard, but Spider-Man? No, you cannot put him in here AT ALL. Not because of the gameplay or tone, mind you, but rather this: He completely overshadows the rest of the roster and makes them all useless. Who the hell wants to play as some vampire character from the mid 90's when you can play as one of the most popular Devil May Cry characters ever and one of the most popular superhero characters in the entire entertainment industry? You see the problem here? You add Spider-Man to a Darkstalkers game and it immediately turns into "Spider-Man's Grand Makai Adventure" and basically the entire roster would be ignored. Think of it like this: Imagine if a Killer Instinct 2 reboot got made and suddenly it was announced that Ryu from Street Fighter was gonna be one of the guest characters. He would overshadow the rest of the cast and it would immediately turn into "Street Fighter featuring Killer Instinct 2".
The DMC cast already overshadows a lot of the Darkstalkers Crew due to the Shear AMOUNT OF TIME and EXPOSURE the DMC series has had compared to Darkstalkers!
@@danielramsey6141. Obviously. However, adding Spider-Man makes that even worse is my point: He just further overshadows the roster more than Nero already did. When coming up with new characters for Darkstalkers 4, probably best not to make the Darkstalkers characters a footnote in their own game, no?
As base roster picks, I'd agree. As DLC picks? Nero is FINE. As a DLC pick, he's fine. Spider-Man is...I think a full blown guest IS actually a good idea, but Darkstalkers is supposed to be a tribute to ALL monster fans (horror tinged or not) and...Vivzie is RIGHT. THERE. I'd still go with Alastor as the best fit, but Stolas could also be pretty cool if Amazon doesn't want to play ball and Viv is the only one receptive. But, if Capcom just really wanted Spider-Man in Darkstalkers in spite of the mismatch and has NO interest in Viv? I would tell them "Okay, but if it's going to be Spider-Man it HAS to be 6 Arms Saga Spider-Man."
@@Volvagia1927. Point still stands; Who cares about some vampire character when you can play as Spider-Man? There is literally no reason the Darkstalkers characters should be made a footnote in their own game. (Especially the first one since 1997.)
I actually think Q would fit in nicely and maybe for an extra twist, the final boss and antagonist of this hypothetical Darkstalkers game is the creator of Q and the one controlling him.
@@kenthuang436 Just let Q's, decently implied through his theme, backstory be "he's just a robot commissioned by The Smoking Man" and leave it at that.
I’ll be honest, this is not very good. Pitching new characters as just “monster archetype + fighting game archetype” with at most a few bullet points of story and personality makes it feel more like a pitch for a generic monster fighting game rather than Darkstalkers specifically. And for the love of all that is holy, cut back on the guest characters. Barely any of them have anything in common with Darkstalkers other than being owned by Capcom and just having monsters but that is not enough of a similarity for them to fit in. And that’s on top of the fact that a game that’s been as dormant for as long as Darkstalkers has should not have to rely on other brands’ identities to pick itself back up.

Some more character ideas:
A genie character.
Demitri 1st
Donovan/Lei-Lei 2nd
Morrigan 3rd
Protagonist of each game is as listed
As an added bonus I toyed with the idea of Dhalsim, Blanka, or Akuma joining the game since each one has monster like traits (Dhalsim being some demihuman, Blanka being the jungle boy, and Akuma being a “demon”)
And the random select would basically be Eleven from Street Fighter 5
Ruby Heart would be that Ghost Pirate.
@@triohazard6104 wouldn't having anyone from Street Fighter also counts as overshadowing.
@@nicksokolowski7709 eh it’s a hypothetical. I just liked the mini story from the udon comics where BB Hood went after Blanka
@@danielramsey6141 yeah but she’s not real ghostly.
So basically Thorgi's BtR with your own OCs added. Got it.
Capcom should bring back Rival Schools
I definitely agree with Thorgi’s thoughts on the DMC characters like Dante and Nero! Any one of those Characters will overshadow the Darkstalkers Cast due to the gap in popularity and the Amount of time that both series have had relevance!
In order for a Darkstalkers Game to Succeed, it Needs another fighter, or a Spin-off franchise other Another Crossover game!
Shadow is good, but since there’s so many Shadows running around (no pun intended) he’ll probably need a different name. Maybe something like Dusk, Bleak, or Dym.
He could Definitely use a Name from Mythology itself that means Shadow.
I think new characters should be based on the gargoyle, invisible man, golem, and hunchback.
Love this but i wouldve added Rose from Street fighters for the fortune teller psychic role
I thinking wraith from slammasters 2 would be sick
Huh nice this is awesome, reslly enjoyed this
An idea I had was "Megaman"
But its actually a demon taking the form of a famous character, like Sonic.EXE. Really playing on the goofiness of creepypasta culture, maybe have a Ben Drowned type backstory.
Ohhh! A Computer Virus Monster! That’s actually a Really Cool idea that doesn’t get used Often! :)
We need a new darkstalkers game
Also additional characters that could work in a DarkStalkers crossover from Capcom are from Red Earth, Blade, Leo and Tessa
Lastly since we got MvC Collection underway n Capcom fighting game devs wanting to make more crossover, it's a possibility DarkStalkers can return fully be remodeled from the ground up and make a return, thanks to Morrigan in mvc3 n Jedah in mvc infinite.
Street Fighter characters that can work into a DarkStalkers universe as guest Necro, Akuma, Rose, Blanka, Gill and Oro
Tessa is a good new character. I mean… WITCH.
You are missing out on the Red Earth Characters that actually have a cannon manga series with The Darkstalkers universe
The new character ideas are great, and I'd love to see Nero in a fighter :))
Didn't I say on Smash Boards that any one from the Devil May Cry series would just overshadowing the Darkstalkers.
I love darkstalkers and still waiting for a new game
I always had an idea to make a new Darkstakers comic to do it on webtoons
Good video, me personally would like a Slasher based character like Jason or Michal Myers since DS is Capcom homage too horror films
avp was a capcom game both franchises would work
no Tabasa/Tessa or the other Red Earth guys?
Also, my idea for a DLC guest character exclusive to a Nintendo console port of the game:
Raven Beak from Metroid Dread
I'm all for a dark stalkers 4
But what they need to do is not to omit any characters but they also need to add a few
There should be a dullahan
A Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde mad doctor
A hunchback
A gargoyle
A witch
A sorcerer
A priest
A banshee
A mutant
A swamp creature
An insect creature
A limia
A golem
A living doll
Some of those already exist. But It would be super interesting to see the Characters from the “Darkstalkers Create a Character Contest” so many Years back! Cause a lot of those ideas for monsters made it into Art!
Dee can maybe seen as Violet Ken.
6:50 I hear what you did there. ;D
POKKEMON
The end credits
Take out Jack, from Power Stone, and add Vampire Hunter D, as a guest character. Capcom will sell more Season Passes with VHD.
Too many guest characters for me. As far as a monster archetype the series never had, I always wanted a witch.
Red Earth Tessa?
@@brandonwilliams6119 Rather have an original character over her.
@@YeldellGW
I can agree with that logic. At the same time I would So Like some Red Earth Cameo Fighter. But we’ll see.
Monster archetypes I want to see in Darkstalkers 4:
Dullahan
Gray alien
Gorgon
Lizardman
Mermaid (specifically, the darker, sinister aspects of the mermaid legend)
Kaiju (will be a sizeshifter who can change from human-sized to kaiju-sized)
Mothman
Giant spider
Nemesis or Mr X from resident evil as guests
@@dragonbornexpress5650oh agreed.
Firebrand would be a great pick since he would be both a gargoyle and a crossover character. And Arthur is annoying.
I love Amingo
For the algorithm!
Put the Crow in it.
It's only proper to say Victor's full name at all times.
Just do SF vs Darkstalkers crossover already. :)
throwing in guest characters but ignoring SF3's Q. for shame
I actually think Q would fit in nicely and maybe for an extra twist, the final boss and antagonist of this hypothetical Darkstalkers game is the creator of Q and the one controlling him.
@@kenthuang436 Just let Q's, decently implied through his theme, backstory be "he's just a robot commissioned by The Smoking Man" and leave it at that.
bof characters would work.
