Living in a Victorian we are restoring I really like the map idea! We want to hide everything modern so it is as if one stepped back in time. I also thought about a velvet drape of some sort.
I know this video is a bit old but something I've found people doing is using decorative tape to restyle the bezel of the TV. Super cheap and easy and it comes in tons of finishes to help match your furniture better like bronze, copper, even faux wood grains.
We recently completed our retirement home with a very open floor plan, so here are a couple of ideas that I have considered for the electronic “black hole” above the fireplace, especially since MDH didn’t want our TV to be recessed; he may be purchasing an even bigger one once the prices decrease. YEAH!! 🤣 A). I have a beautiful (very large) antique platter that has black, gray, tan, red, cream, and gold in the pattern. I may (carefully) mount that above the TV. Nancy’s Daily Dish also sells black and white dishes and painted platters that could also be used. An inexpensive DIY project might be to decoupage some plates, platters, etc. yourself. B). I’ve considered painting the back wall, but since we have adjacent bookshelves and we’re trying to keep the space light, I’m not completely sold. Minimally, I’ll be incorporating some black/gray into our books and/or nick-knacks to distract from the TV. C). I’ve been playing with the idea of somehow attaching small acrylic mirrors to 1-2 canvases (since they’re light-weight) and creating large “mirror(s)” that could be placed in-front-of or attached-to the TV when we’re expecting company or doing a more formal event (it’s the only time I really care). Wallpaper and fabric might be other options. D). I have seen a tapestry mounted above a TV and pulled-up like a balloon/Roman shade. E). I’ve considered extending my mantle with a piece of glass, acrylic, or wood and placing vases, flowers, etc. in front of the TV for special events. F). A folding metal or wood/painted screen/room divider placed on the mantle in front of the TV is another option. G). I’m not completely sold on the wood-frame-around the TV idea; they’re too skimpy for my house/taste, though I recently saw a DIYer who had mounted a much “weightier” frame around her TV. H). A lot of local folks are having professional electronic “paintings” done, but I don’t have any details. I). Have you seen those “folding” TV’s?!? They were originally about 10K, but we can always hope!! Of course, we all know that the the key is to “pick our battles.” Since MDH is a great guy who doesn’t ask for much, I’ve definitely let this one go!!
One more is what I do - a tv lift. It sits behind a cabinet (34 inch high by as wide as u need for tv size) and at the press of a button it lifts up for viewing and then another button press lowers it down out of sight when I’m done. I think they’re often installed inside a custom cabinet but the disadvantage is if you want a new tv of a different size it may not fit in a custom unit. That’s also true of some of these solutions - it works better if they’re generously larger than the tv itself
I really enjoyed watching your video on how to incorporate a TV in the living room. But, I need some ideas on how to place a TV in a corner wall. My style is country cottage and I haven't been able to figure this out. Thank in advance for your input.
There are several companies that make a television that turns into a mirror when it’s turned off. You can even customize your own frame. I’m a widowed empty-nester, I don’t have a television in my living room. I barely watched television so it’s in my bedroom. My friend’s husband asked me, “Why don’t you have a television in your living room.” I replied, if anyone is coming to my home, they’re usually coming to visit me not watch television. A couple of weeks ago I had three of my Grandsons (all under the age of 7) spending the weekend. During the day we made cars out of cardboard boxes, that evening I set their “Cars” up on my bed all in a row and we pretended we were at a “Drive-In”. It was hysterical because they had no idea what it was!
A large vintage tapestry hanging from a nice rod could be cool too. Depending on the setting, a gorgeous piece of netting style tablecloth strung on rings could be nice. 🤔
Brilliant compilation of TV solutions. Can't wait for more TV makers to offer more options. Can you offer solutions for other things like bathroom medicine cabinet or small storage for the bathroom? Also privacy for balconies or patios? Thanks and GOD bless you and yours.
Watching your suggestions gave me an idea 💡! We have an older flat screen tv. My husband doesn't like the armoire that it is in. We are moving to a smaller place so it will need to be sitting, exposed. I came up with a great compromise. We have Roku so we can use UA-cam scenery videos to play when we want to make the big black hole disappear. Yeah! Can play video with or science or even pause to just one scene. And I didn't have to buy a new smart TV! Loved this video.
I love this video - well all of your videos! You just inspired me to diy a cover for my TV. Thank you for your hard work making these videos. You've quickly become my favorite online designer. I can't wait to get to know you better. ❤
Love these ideas! I love the vintage "educational" posters, too, so using one to cover up the tv is brilliant. Not sure how big it would have to be, though. that might be a little problematic! Ha!
What about covering it with curtains that match your other curtains in the room? As long as they all match, it won't stick out, and they would be easy to move out of the way when you want to watch TV.
Wonderful ideas! We installed the barn door look and we love it:) I hate our huge tv and my husband loves it so hopefully this works to make us both happy:)
While I am not that interested in this topic, I came across this video and played it out of curiosity. You offer some interesting takes on how to hide TV. I also found your channel's name pretty classic: "She holds dearly". Good choice! Wish you a good luck youtubing!
So one of my my long term dreams in life is to have a skoolie, so I tend to daydream about it for hours sometimes. About two years ago I encountered a problem: how can I possibly have a skoolie in a developing country (Costa Rica, where I'm from) without getting robbed? It's common for robberies to happen in regular houses! Houses with lots of fences and wires, my skoolie wouldn't stand a chance of surviving. So I decided I'd have to hide things, like computers and TVs, and it has been a nightmare to come up with an idea that isn't too bulky so I can hide the entertainment center. But you lady, you solved my dilemma. The map idea is BRILLIANT. I feel stupid for not thinking about it sooner! I can't tell you how thankful I am ❤️
Love all these ideas! Although I'm really struggling to make our set up fit in. We have a living room tv, a gaming tv and dual monitors for work that I'm trying to make work in our space and boy is it difficult haha!
Some good ideas but some are extremly expensive, some even more than the dang tv. Pull downs must not exist anymore as I couldn't find any after watching this. Those were my favorite
Great ideas to cover the ugly big projector screen I was looking for a motorized screen that hides in the ceiling but they are crazy expensive, these ideas are great.
We searched high and low for a armoire wide enough for our 55” flat screen. Any we found were either too far away or extremely pricey. Our solution was a black cottage style entertainment center with a recessed area for the tv with shelving on either side for decor. It also helped to arrange our living space such that the piece wasn’t the focal point of the room.
What about the ones that go up and down from in a piece of furniture? Wonder if a that could somehow be a DIY project....maybe more on the difficult end of things, maybe not
Do you mean the ones that come down like projector screens? Or the ones that pop up out of a dresser? I think it COULD be a DIY, but would be a bit tricky!
In the future when we don’t watch tv anyone and all our shows just appear in front of us to watch, tv would be a vintage piece that people would decorate with
I've done the gallery wall with my huge tv. My tv sits on an old coffee table I've painted with chalk paint! I have 2 old louvered saloon doors on each side with a wreath on each, a large black (distressed) shelf above my TV with whatever decor is in season and a large round clock with worn looking tin as a frame. There's no use in trying to cover it here because it's almost always being used and it's far too large for an armoire. Love all of your ideas and love your channel.
Our big screen sits on something like an art stand. ( two silver legs branch out to either side) and it sits on a long wood glass fronted and shelf fronted piece. Help!
As I watched your channel for the first time ever, I watched- " 10 ways to hide your TV". I didn't notice how long ago you made this. 2 funny things about this one was- using "Craig's list" is almost obsolete in 2022 and I am shaking my head at the easiest and cheapest way to hide your TV/ you must not have heard of.. For goodness sake, have you really never heard of FREE UA-cam TV ART? I'm old and not tect savvy at all but even I know you can search and find so many long running [11 hours??] Nice mood music included- or not, on the FREE UA-cam TV Art options. I’m leaning toward another idea, which is to eliminate the tv altogether.
That's the Joanna Gaines approach. Their family used to go to friends' houses to watch Fixer Upper premiers
Finally, someone addresses this issue, yay! Thank you, I love your ideas.
Living in a Victorian we are restoring I really like the map idea! We want to hide everything modern so it is as if one stepped back in time. I also thought about a velvet drape of some sort.
Thoughtful and informative! Excellent presentation!
I always hoped someone would come up with a TV that looked like a beautiful mirror when the TV was not in use.
I have seen that done in one of the facebook old house groups! A two way mirror was used. It was great!
Or a painting. More easy
I LOVE the idea of the pull down map!
Isn't it lovely!
How about an attractive decorative folding screen that stands in front of the tv. Possibly best placed near a corner of the room?

So average payout if you received 1000 views with a 1% click through rate average. Your vid on YT with paid ads will roughly make 17 per 1000 views at 46k views total
