  • Winning FSAE Michigan 2018's Autocross event by 3,5 seconds over closest competitor.
Kinda stress tested the side slip angle in the last slalom.
Michigan is always an extraordinary competition for us. Travelling across the pond with "last europe seasons car" two weeks prior to competition to test the car every day is always exhausting but so much fun. Swapping engines back and for became normal, because something always brakes before the event. We are lucky to be supported with a nice workshop from The Ohio State University.
It's super rewarding to set the fastest lap times and win the competition after investing months of work in addition to the europe season the year before.

@@ThePurpleGoose023 Not really? Out of all the thousands of pro drivers in different series, the current F1 grid will always be among the best of them.

@@ThePurpleGoose023 That's why I said among the best. I was referring to the lower categories of racing when I said majority, not WRC, MotoGP, Indy, etc, which are imo around the same level as F1. But it just happens to be that F1 tends to acquire the most promising drivers from feeder series (at least in Europe), but obviously not all talented drivers end up there.

Yes, haha! The famous Michigan weather made us running our wets cause there was no way getting enough temperature into the (hard compound R25B) slicks.
In FSAE no tire warmers are allowed so we always struggle with getting temperature into the tires for the Autocross runs.

Why do the FSAE cars never have much camber? I’m curious on the setups because I feel like that’s how a whole bunch of time could be made.

    • @MaddiMcAwesome

This depends on tires and track conditions. In this case for example you don't need much.

Hi! Amazing driving and video quality. I often skim through FSAE videos and I ended up watching yours many many times.
Since I'm starting a series of videos where I follow the development of my teams' car, I wanted to ask you if I could use a few seconds of this clip in my first video, while I make a brief introduction to explain what Formula SAE is. Since we're at our second year and we only raced in static events (which were remote only, due to the pandemic), we have no actual footage taken at a proper Formula Student venue. Of course I will put "courtesy of" at the bottom of the screen while your video is playing and thank you and all the other creators that gave theri permission. I'll also link the videos in the description and put a pinned comment where I tell people to go check out the videos.
Thank you in advance, whichever will be your choice!

It definitely helps to have a karting background. Preferably you have already competed in autocross events, with the kart or the car.
The most important thing is that you need to know where the braking point will be on an unfamiliar track, the correct racing line and how your car will react.
I think the best way to train this is with a kart and self-built tracks.

As with any sport, it all comes down to preparation. You get used to the g-froces and bumps. The needed focus to memorize the track is an add on to that.

This track is so easy compared to Germany

    • @MaddiMcAwesome
      @MaddiMcAwesome  5 місяців тому

Not so easy to say IMO. It's probably easier to flip a cone in germany, yes. But that's just half the trick, as you might now: FSG track is getting tighter and slower year by year. No need for long hard braking or even trail braking. No need for drivability+downforce balance at high speeds. Cause there's no high speed cornering in FSG. Michigan is also demanding for the driver cause you have to choose the raceline yourself, due to the open track design.
