As a sound designer i will go for the D100. It is a lot more detailed and by checking the specs it has a lower selfnoise. Besides it has this "umpfh" to it (Fx when you hear the flipflops in the beginning) and i like that. + it is a lot more handy than the D10 and i dont need the XLR-inputs because if im actually going to record something specific for a film with microphones i would never use these pre-amps that the D10 and D100 have, i would go for a 744/633/MixPre-3 mixer. So if you, like me, is in need of a "go-to" recorder you can ACTUALLY use in fiction for when you are on holiday or just having it around in your backpack for some spontanious recording (which i love to do) you should go for the D100. "Me english bad", sorry :D
I totally agree with you. This video is just one sample. Depending on the user condition, the choices will vary. The D100 is one of my favorite devices.
@@KandiKlover Its a bit odd since both are capable of recording at 192Hz (not mentioned in this videoo although I suppose the settings are at max res) and with XLR, phantom power and a suprior mike, it might be possible to get as decent a respose from the D10
D100 blows everything out of the water in it's category.. it's been like this since the release. I recently did some work with both the D10 and Tascam DR-100MkIII and never want to ever touch those again. If what you are looking for is true sound quality, the D100 has no match.. usability-wise, sure, there are lots of better options out there. With the D10 Sony has made a practical, overgrown, high-end versatile product that's a great all-rounder for lots of people without excelling at anything. A great jack of many trades that's also is sonically a complete downgrade from the D100. The D10 is not a D100 successor.. it's a top notch consumer product for those who want lots of features in one package I have no priority about ultimate sound quality.
Sony know exactly what they are doing, if XLR would have been better they would have used them. Everything has a compromise. The D100 is an awesome bit of kit period

System Sotheb excacly, Its a very cool unit. I hope it wont get discontinued.. But thank you for the upload! Its been very helpful.
This is useful information, thanks.
Haha this is awesome. Idk why I never thought of this. I should take my recorder out when I walk to record the sounds too.
Damn I wish that d100 had XLR combo jacks
Sony really needs to make a successor to the PCM-D100 that keeps everything that's great about it but adds the D10's XLR inputs
And it still hasn't come...
I like the D10. It may not be as detailed but it picks up more of what you actually WANT to hear.
Nope. It doesn't.

@@barnabycross With all those stuff, you get the same quality with just a d100 and probably save money.

Yes is real nice.
La D10 es menos ruidosa que la D100. Gracias por el video.

D100 is clearly better.
