Top quality honest info like this can be very difficult come by. Looking to up my zander game on midlands canals this is great content to digest. From what I've observed on the bank every word rings true and has helped validate my assessment whats going on sub sub-surface. Thanks for the info Tom, great work 👏
Thats why there so finicky ive struggled with them tbh I had my first one few weeks ago very small it wasn't hooked so what your saying explains a lot I lost a big one due to not being able to set the hook I obviously didn't strike hard enough thanks thom good advice 👍
In ice fishing world, you often just leave your spoon or balanced jig, or a regular jig completely motionless and the fish sort of inhale it. But! Even on hard water, there’s days those zander dart straight up several meters to catch the lure the second you drop it into the hole. Then if you don’t move the lure a lot, they’re not interested. Very interesting vid, thanks a lot!
Hi Thom. Great vid very informative. Recently caught my 1st ever Zander and everything you covered here rings true for both the occasion when I caught the fish and the subsequent visits where I have had bites but blanked. Actually what you mentioned about them clamping their jaws shut and holding the lure is exactly what happened to me!
Great info here, good to have some technical advice for us UK anglers. So true about the slight temp changes. I live close to the Glos canal and its a bit of joke that from just after midday to 2 pm is the witchin time. Hits or fish happen so many times especially during winter that its no fluke. Regards to rod choice i think im missing out on a few more fish as im on an old XLNT which is definitely not fast enough Thinking of the W3 TC 7-21g. Would you advice that as a fast enough actioned rod? Thanks for these vids, am watching them all now!
Kenton Smith Hi Kenton, yes I have the W3 7-21 T&C and it’s a great rod, ideal for Perch and Zander and at 7ft I’d say that’s just right for the Glos Canal 👌👌
I've had 2 zanders that have grabbed my lure a westin crecraw bait and let go when hitting the surface . This is on the Canal at last light in December . Just can't seem to set the hook .
Yes you need super sharp hooks, try exposed hooks rather thank offset/weedless hooks, and make sure your rod is fast enough/has backbone to set the hook 👍🏻
Hello machine, could you recommend a rod for zander? Medium or Medium Heavy? Spinning or Baitcasting? Reel size? Thank you very much in advance. Thanks for your videos. 1 greeting from neighboring Spain. see you soon!!
I like a fast rod for Zander, Westin W3 or W6 Finesse T&C 7-21g or the Finesse Shad 10-28g both excellent. I’m personally a spinning reel man rather than baitcaster so a good quality 2500 size reel will pair nicely with both 👍🏻
