    The joy you feel in your transition and in the acceptance that your family has shown really shines through your video. I am really glad (as a cis gay male) to hear your story. May you go from strength to strength! Thank you for sharing your life with us.

    Great story. Thanks so much for taking the time to tell it. Hope your brother is living a more joyful life. Your poetic exhibition of his troubled life is one of the most moving things I've seen on the web, so thanks again for that video!

    When I first started questioning myself, like majorly, I found your videos and it was such a good thing that I did. I don't think I would have been able to come out nearly as soon as I did. You're such a huge inspiration to me and I cannot thank you enough for being the awesome dude you are

    So I do realize I'm commenting pretty late on this video, but I just found out about your channel and your experiences help me. Although I've been questioning for a while now and have felt make since eighth grade, I have been transitioning. My parents aren't supportive, neither is my sister, and they prefer to blame the people I hang out with/say I'm only looking for attention. It can get really bad with hurtful things said and it still occurring, but hearing your experiences throughout your lifetime and all the optimism and happiness you have to share have given me a little more optimism on my little problem. Much love :)

    I honestly wish I could come out (as FtM transguy) to my parents but PoC parents are super old fashioned and traditional. Honestly I have no idea what to do, except just keep afloat. Thank you sky, watching your vids makes me feel a little safe for some reason? Haha anyways thank you 💕

    Do you recommend coming out gradually like you did, even for someone sure of their identity?
    You're really lucky to have to much support Sky (:

    • @skylarkeleven
      @skylarkeleven  10 років тому +5

      Yes, it is my own personal suggestion. I suggest it from the moment someone begins questioning their gender to include others on that, if they feel comfortable. Because for me, I realized that this would be a huge shock to my parents to just come out and be like "I identify as a guy.." They weren't a part at all of my questioning process, but I wish I had made them more of a part of it. In the same way that, if I were to ever date a man again (open to it,) I'd likely let my family/friends know it's something I've been thinking about. Then, when I start dating them, it won't be like a huge "coming out as pansexual/gay/queer/whatnot" but more like "oh yeah, Sky's been thinking about this a while, looks like he's happy, yay." For me personally, coming out as transgender came as a huge shock to those who were not involved in my questioning phase - because it seemed like I just woke up and "decided it." Whereas, for those I told "hey, I've been thinking about my gender la la la" and updated them a bit on my thoughts over the course of a year or so, they were not at all surprised when I came out but they also weren't shocked when I said I was questioning it ;) - Once again though, I want to reiterate that this is just my suggestion when it is possible - by no means it there a right or wrong way to come out or assert one's identity!!
      I definitely am lucky. :)

    Hey man, I just came out as FtM to my friends and now all that's left to do is come out to mom and dad. I'm terrified. I'm out to them as bigender and my mom hates it. What do I do?

      @skylarkeleven  10 років тому +1

      It's up to you Bailey! Maybe tell your dad first, since it sounds like he is less adverse? I think that whenever you are ready to have the conversation, that would be a good time :)

    Hey Sky I was wondering which video [of yours] would be best to use to help inform my mom? I get nervous and anxious when I try to bring the topic up of transitioning & being an FtM to my mom so I find it best if I just show her one of your videos. You're very thorough in your videos and I enjoy them quite a lot.

      hey my friend! i was thinking about making a video specifically for advice for parents/explanation. meaning, what i would want to say to my parents now if i could have then! but for the time being, i think my 3 part series of Q&A with my mom can help show our relationship as well as explain some things/her insecurities/anxieties and how they were resolved?

    It makes me so happy that there are people like yourself on youtube - willing to share your experiences. As an active member of our local LGBTQ community back here in Norway, I know a lot of transpeople who have found comfort in your videos. :)
    Personally I have to say that, with all the variations we find in the world regarding how to define gender, this idea of biology being the key element (although a good theory) is highly insufficient, and extremely naive..
    The "genderbread-person" you find online however - very ideal!

    I look up to you Sky and trying to reach out for some support from the community. A popular youtuber (ItsJudyslife) recently made a video mentioning a trans woman, and saying "I wouldn't have thought she was born a man!" and that "Shes prettier than most women". I commented about how ignorant and disrespectful that comment was, and I'm currently getting bashed on the comments section. I use to be that ignorant person, saying those things without knowledge of it being offensive, until I got informed, educated and also discovered that I'm gender non-conforming.

    • @skylarkeleven
      @skylarkeleven  10 років тому +8

      You have my full support in pointing out that those comments are problematic in many ways. I recommend though, if others are bashing you, to exit the conversation peacefully. People will not learn when they do not want to, sadly.

And ive been finding it really reall difficult to come yit, my parents arent religeous, my mum has a homosexual friend.. Shes fine with him but im scared because i know deep down im a straight guy in a female body following the crowd.. And my family always make horrible comments towards lesbians.. Ive told a teacher.. But in the uk trans youth isnt that known.. Can you inbox me some help what i can do i am 14.

    Hey sky, I'm a tom boy but this last year I have been wearing a bunch of girly things cause it pleases my mom. But I've always been a tomboy for as long as I can remember but the other day when I asked my mom if she will be fine that I will be going back to guys clothes (cause I hate girls clothes soo much!) she said that that would be fine and she would love me and all that stuff, but she said that I may send the wrong vibe to people. She said that most people will think that I am lesbian. And I said ok but I don't really don't want to appeal to people as being lesbian cause I don't think I am. Well, I'm just really confused right now in my life because I like boys but some times I look at girls and I'm like "ooh, if she was only my girlfriend." So I was wondering if you could talk to me cause I'm really confused what I am.

    At age 17 how were you able to pay for your T?

    • @skylarkeleven
      @skylarkeleven  10 років тому

      I had health insurance - doctor's copay was $20 and T was $20. Now, doctor's visit is $500 and T is $75 (a vial lasts me 8 months on average.) However, I did get a full-time job solely for the purpose of having health insurance. Most of my friends can't relate, as they are covered under their parents insurance until age 26. My dad is uninsured, and my mom's no longer can cover me since she is no longer working due to her disabilities.

    • @skylarkeleven
      @skylarkeleven  10 років тому

      skylarkeleven I also paid $20 for each therapy visit I had. I covered all those costs by working part time at a supermarket while I was in high school - as well as managed to save $3000 for top surgery during those four years!

    You're very fortunate it was a easy acceptance from your family, I told my dad about a year before I told my mom, my sister about two months before I told my mom and she was 100% supportive, until she saw me in person and called me "auntie" which I can't stand. How could she be supportive and not use the correct pronouns, why is she not using "uncle" like I want. My mom refuses to recognize it at all, and my dad's reaction was a lot like yours.
