Personally I feel sorry for Germany and I'm Dutch. I think they're discriminated against for being German and that's not fair at all. Had Finland performed this song, it would have won. In my opinion juries should judge the songs regardless of the nation first and afterwards be told whom they gave the points to. It could be easy.

i dont think thats the case. People who enjoy this genre are more likely to search and click. Everything related to metal might not be everybodys taste, so i can see why the audience-voting went so bad for the lords. What i dont unterstand is this jury voting? What is the deciding factor for their votes? Their personal taste in music, quality of the song, something else? If its taste, what do we need that at all? If its quality how can the votings be so wide spread?

Interesting fact: Germany actually placed 14th in the televotes on average, much higher than many other entries that ended up receiving more votes! They just managed to not be higher than 11 in almost all countries, which due to the points distribution means no points. Meanwhile a song that is 2nd in some country and 26th in others will receive more points from this one time above 11th spot.
It's crazy that the point system hasn't been updated. But I suppose that would mean we'd have to get rid of the traditional, iconic maximum "12 points"

Sweden conveniently "winning" when ABBA has their ESC anniversary with an artist signed under Warner Music. Lol. Or that Blanka debacle being tolerated. Germany were robbed big time. Absolutely love this performance from Lord of the Lost. Hands down my absolute favourite song from the Eurovision contest this year.
@@TheFren I tend to think the people's votes may not even be counted actually, or they are but additional fake votes are given to the country supposed to win by the organizers.
Thousands of Germans have criticized the NDR, the German pre-selection jury, for consistently sending generic acts in recent years. Finally, the old radio gurus yielded to the pressure and organized a semi-public vote. In this vote, the jury was clearly outperformed and Lord of the Lost emerged as the big winner. While I didn't expect a top 5 placement, last place is definitely undeserved. If we had managed to reach the top 20, we could have proven the German jury wrong. Unfortunately, now they have no reason not to send yet another generic radio pop song next year. So, thanks for nothing, Europe. Despite the odds, we fought for a non-generic act, but Europe let us down.
I hope they will see it for what it is: A reason not a sent another song again, no matter what genre.

went to a Lord of the Lost concert yesterday, they're brilliant and didn't deserve to come last, not one bit

Yeah saw them 2017 in Osnabrück and their performance was just great, you could easily tell they put a lot heart into their work despite the fact that it was a concert with just ~200 visitors.

I'm so happy I have discovered Lord of the Lost through ESC but their last place just broke my heart. I've been listening to their songs non stop for the past week, not only Blood and Glitter, but another ones and they are just fire! They remind me so much of my other favourite German bands, like Eisbrecher or Oomph!
This was one of the best performances and the placing is totally unfair. ESC just does not get quality metal music.

You know that Rupert Keplinger actually is the bass player for Eisbrecher (among others). He's mentioned in the beginning and credited for both text and music.

these guys put 200% into ESC and this does not go unnoticed. if you look at their social media posts building up to Eurovision, all the song covers and interviews, they seriously did so much more than any other performers and they were really enjoying the whole experience, you can tell it wasn't half-assed. in the process of having fun at such a 'cheesy' but grandiose song contest, they still took it very seriously 👏the unfortunate thing about Germany hardly scoring any points is that they do not take part in semi-finals, so they kinda lose opportunity to build a longer lasting connection with the fans. for example, at the semi-finals everyone already knew who Käärijä or Loreen are. and yet we only got to see Germany for the first time at the finals and the song contest is already over that same night... it's just different in that way.
but I genuinely hope that Lord of the Lost guys know they truly gave their all. I so much enjoyed watching their fun Eurovision interviews - what a bunch of cool, down to earth, lovable guys, especially Chris. his charisma and engagement in others really shines through. whatever the low score says, I feel they certainly have made an impact on people and acquired some new fans. even though I'm not a huge metal fan, I do wish I knew about them before Eurovision. good luck guys in any future projects ⭐ much love from Croatia ☺

they were good and put a lot of heart in, problem was this year just had so many good contestants and add to that how they disrespected the competition several times by refusing the use the German flag during the promotional material or the flag march which probably didn't go over very well with the juries.

I may be English but "I wrote a song" was absolute bollocks, this wasn't just a song it was a full performance, it didn't deserve last place! I haven't been keen on Germany's entries for years, but this year they sent a banger, I expected a way better place for this song, and the fact it came last is criminal. I have to ask where did our votes go? I definitely voted for you guys. This song deserved way better.
As always, Germany has one of the most interesting performances and lands at the bottom of the list, with dull and average performances winning the honors. The vocalist had a pretty extensive vocal range, there were good special effects, the performance and the image of the band members were eye-catching. They visibly put a lot of energy into this performance and they were infectious with energy through TV. People are not mature enough for heavier music. I hope that the band will gain fans who will be able to truly appreciate them.

It cannot be seen in this video, but the German national flag is not shown at the beginning of the live event. They waved the so-called Progressive Flag - a symbol of the LGBTQ movement. Most of the foreign voters saw this as disrespect, which was then acknowledged accordingly. I can understand.

As a german i can say that Germany really wants to win every time but they always got last. UK is always bad nearly every time, but UK doesnt really want to win. Uk have so much popular singers. Italy 2021 was not a metal song, but a pretty radio-friendly rock song without extreme vocals (or looks). Why would you compare them at all? Still, me as a German, I am Not disappointed. LotL were friendly all the time, they showed respect for all the other Songs and Artists and they Said that the Fact that they represented Germany at Eurovision was the biggest win for them. Btw I'm a huge fan of LOTL, I have been listening to little else but their music since I discovered them in early March with the Unser Lied (as a huge Eurovision fan, I try to follow the national selections when I can, not only the contest nights). You can imagine that I can't be happier that they participated in it, and I, as a non-German, and not really a metal fan, had the opportunity to discover them. :)

I am not a metal fan but this was absolutely amazing ! I can’t understand how all these generic pop songs got better votes , they have to be more open minded to different styles ,these kind of bands make the Eurovision worth watching, 12 from Israel !

I was honestly so frustrated yesterday. After their performance I really thought they could easily do first place, they were amazing. Us being last place again for me just confirmed that the voting is rigged and corrupt.
I didn't even expect TOP 10. I would have been fully satisfied if we got 30 points from the Jurys and 60 from the Televotes and landed ourseves at 19th place or something. That would have been fully okay. The song is not for everyone and I respect that. BUT THIS! How in JYP's Fish Tank does a song like that end up with less points than Carpe Diem or even freaking Solo (No offense, I thought the stage was actually good, but the song is honestly just boring to me)?!
Them ending up at last place proves that we could send BTS and BLACKPINK as a collaboration together and still get last place. This was the first and last ESC I actively watched. Liebe EBU, verarschen kann ich mich immer noch alleine!
I still have to process how it is possible that they got the last place 😨. The song, their performance on stage, the costumes, everything was great. I wasn't expecting them to win because I knew that other songs where more appealing for the public and the jury, but I definitely wasn't expecting them to be in the last position. As a german i can say that Germany really wants to win every time but they always got last. UK is always bad nearly every time, but UK doesnt really want to win. Uk have so much popular singers. (Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Elton John,for example). If UK really wants to win they only must take one of these singers and they win.

And in my opinion there’s no point in sending already world popular singers (like Sweden did this year, it just ruined the contest), Eurovision stage is a great chance for budding stars to build a successful career (Maneskin is a great example of it)

I don't listen to modern music, but during this ESC and plagiarism accusations in some songs I have noticed the pattern soft + hard + soft. It is about melody and performance, but probably hard + soft + hard has worked better. And my own musical taste is emotional + deep + emotional, which are of course defined only in my head.

As a German, you feel really screwed this year. You can't believe how disappointed I was about the last place. We finally dared to send something to Eurovision that stands out, not a generic pop song. Sure, Blood & Glitter is not a masterpiece but still a great song, the performance was great, the singer has charisma, we made an effort with the staging and in the end we end up behind generic pop songs on the last place. I just don't understand it. I think, because of our partly very bad songs from the last years, we are branded as losers by most of the people, no matter what we send to Eurovision and maybe it would make sense not to participate for a few years. Anyway, I can say I'm proud of Lord Of The Lost, I haven't been so proud of our participants for years. You represented us great, thank you ❤
A generic metal song performed by band that paints their faces like KISS and doesn't have a stage presence on the Eurovision stage (knowing that they are relatively succesful outside of the Eurovision world). Also the stage was boring compared to other entries. This metal sound itself doesn't seem to fit for Eurovision and its voters anymore. Electric Callboy on the other hand would have made a statement. It was way more original than this entry. Unfortunately, it was not to happen.
Yeah, I think the song itself was the main problem - I had an icky feeling about it since it won the national final. Just the words "blood & glitter" seem very cliché for a glam-rockband. The Australian rockband had more pop elements & variations in my opinion + a more creative staging. But they weren't really appreciated by the televoters either (21 points vs 130 from the juries).

Lord of the Lost it's classic of gothic-rock, it's unfair that they didn't get enough points, but I'm glad that thanks to this performance, someone discovered this wonderful group.
It was my case. I can't be happier they participated at ESC and so I got the chance to discover them.
It’s because of this performance the jury needs to be revamped to accommodate for more genres of music. It’s been months and I still can’t think of anything that was actually wrong with their performance. This is not a last place performance.

Chris lost somewhere his voice on his way to final. Studio version is 500% better than live and costumes just don't match the music. If you wear such outfit you sing Belgium's song, not metal.

No one can tell me that this was the worst performance of the evening. They killed it and deserved to be Top 10 at least!
Got to say I hated their costumes. But I though this could be somewhere in the middle in votes. Would like to know what % of votes they got from each country. They might have been 13 to 16 a lot in national rankings which sadly gives them 0 points each time. Hence not getting many points does not automatically mean people did not like the song.
It was not. Germany was not once last in a countries televote. Average placing was 15.5 but they barely made it to the top 10 to receive points
You are absolutely right, a retro-mashup between Rammstein, Europe and Depeche Mode is precisely the appropriate musical level for ESC. Maybe they were only voted last because people felt that they held a mirror up to ESC lovers...?

Honestly it's normal, I don't think most people who watch Eurovision on the daily would like this type of rock, especially the screaming vocals (which are really good). They'd rather listen to Maneskin type of rock, which is also really good but way lighter and easier to listen (compared to Blind Channel who competed to Maneskin that year, Blind Channel screamed a little more and lost right away even though their song was also on point, Maneskin going on 100M views right now while Blind Channel has 10 times less). It's not just the votes, you can see that this video only has 150k views right now, while some others are in millions of views already. It's just not the average person cup of tea.

The placement of Lord of the Lost in 2023 is one of the reasons why I, a Eurovision fan for more than 20 years, I'm annoyed with the Eurovision jurors and scoring system to the point that I'm not excited for the new season at all, and I don't even know if I will be watching next year.
Fucking robbed. Upset with the overall result tonight, but this really surprised me. It was a good wake up song, most decent entry Germany has sent in years. Every year they do poorly, and this year I felt this would do at least enough to get to the left side.

Of course they play metal music, so they simply didn't fit the EuroVision format, which seems made for commercial music. Elementary lyrics with an elementary concept, a very basic melody, flat voice... nothing new that is supposed to impress the audience.
P.S. for me the best thing of the show was Mr. Roger Taylor (Queen's drummer) appearance.

The placement of this song is a sin. Blood and Glitter isn't the best this band can offer, but compared to other Eurovision songs this year it was on a whole other level. Even if general audiences don't appreciate metal, they should've scored much higher for originality and the memorable performance alone.
