Hello! I just want to let you know I have a UA-cam channel I just started about ants and it’s all because of you, my content is great now because I have learned much from you! Thanks so much for inspiring me to create my own awesome UA-cam channel, your the best!
Hey, Elder ants! I finally caught a queen! I put her in a minihearth and she created two clutches that have hatched into larvae. I'm soooooo excited! You're also one of my favorite ant keepers, Post more videos!!
I live in Europe and I have a lasius queen which I caught last year, september. She was hibernating until the end of february, and then she laid her eggs.My question is:Normally how much time does it take for nanitic workers to arrive?I only see small larvae although more than 2 months passed.
Recently, I be been taking walks everyday to find queen ants and all of the sudden a massive swarm of Queens appeared in my front yard unexpectedly, so always have your test tubes ready!
First off, congrats! You can contact me through email, Instagram, or Discord if you want me to help identify it. You can also go on ant forums for more help too :D
how about this, for example i have a ant colony in a medium formicarium, does the population of the ants keep on growing? do i have or does it a must have to add more nesting site? or is ok to not expand?
The colony will keep on growing depending on how much food you give them. If you want them to not outgrow their formicarium, you can limit the amount of protein you give them.
The sad thing is you didn't mention much about semi claustral queens unless I missed it because I'm just scouring the internet for Myrmica Rubra info and I was hoping that some info would be great for my 2 new queens but this was still very useful because I have only been keeping ants for around a year so I'm still learning from my mistakes of ant keeping but I always try my best and I just don't like how people cast molten metal on ant colony's and call it art it just hurts me so much well good luck on your anting season and to all my fellow ant keeper's the same #AntsAreAwsome
I mentioned it in my “How To Raise an Ant Colony” video :D For those queens, feed them honey, and insect legs and you should be good. The molten metal casted in the nests are kinda good though, because he casts them into Imported fire ant nests.
Hey Ender Ants Great Video You Mentioned Great Tips On Starting An Ant Colony, But I Was Wondering If You Could Show Us When Queens Fly In United States And EU
They’re flying right now, since its already Spring and Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. I also have a video last year of how I looked for queen ants.
Since we can't really go out, I would suggest black-lighting if you have a blacklight. If you don't have one, I highly recommend it! If not, then I would say just look around the sidewalk near you, and not be too close to people.
Another thing people often seem to mess up, sugar water is not a replacement to regular water! the amount of colonies I have heard die because they didn't get normal water is too high!
Hibernation in Europe is vital for ants, not hibernating ants can bring to premature queen deaths, some queen may die during this process but this cases mean that those queens weren’t strong enough to have a healthy colony. This said, I live in Italy and found loads of Camponotus vagus and Camponotus lateralis queens
I found 3 queens that were all living in this tiny branch there extremely tiny almost half an inch I have no Idea what species they are can I send you a picture of them?
I just caught 4 camponotus lateralis queen in my yard just by luck :) one of the male just flew on my window and i noticed they were having a nuptial flight. I could just keep picking queens but i think 4 is just enough and more would have been harder for me to handle ! anyway i hope they will lay eggs soon, i let them rest in a dark place and i surrounded the test tubes with red transparent plastic so they have less stress ^^ i'm very happy now
Very stupid question, but if ants can't see red light, why not place red see-trough foil over the test tube and we can see them (more or less), but they can't see us and so the queen is not disturbed?

Is fire ant are easy to keep
I have a Fire Queen Ant and like about 1-2 days she laid a lot of eggs and after 3-4 weeks she ate her larvae
yes, they are quick to grow. Limit checking on her as she could be getting stressed.
I wish i could tell more questions😢
Why does my ants larvae turns into like gray like color
If you mean entirely grey, i’m not sure, could be they are dying, their natural color, or are changing into a pupae/cocoon.

Regarding heating.
USE A THERMOSTAT FOR GODS SAKES.
There are stories of reptiles with completely burned up undersides from poorly regulated heating.
Yup, and what’s even worse is that if you have a lot of colonies on the heating pad, they all could end up overheating 😔
