    • @EnderAnts

      The colony will keep on growing depending on how much food you give them. If you want them to not outgrow their formicarium, you can limit the amount of protein you give them.

    The sad thing is you didn't mention much about semi claustral queens unless I missed it because I'm just scouring the internet for Myrmica Rubra info and I was hoping that some info would be great for my 2 new queens but this was still very useful because I have only been keeping ants for around a year so I'm still learning from my mistakes of ant keeping but I always try my best and I just don't like how people cast molten metal on ant colony's and call it art it just hurts me so much well good luck on your anting season and to all my fellow ant keeper's the same #AntsAreAwsome

    • @EnderAnts
      @EnderAnts  4 роки тому

      I mentioned it in my “How To Raise an Ant Colony” video :D For those queens, feed them honey, and insect legs and you should be good. The molten metal casted in the nests are kinda good though, because he casts them into Imported fire ant nests.

    Hibernation in Europe is vital for ants, not hibernating ants can bring to premature queen deaths, some queen may die during this process but this cases mean that those queens weren’t strong enough to have a healthy colony. Great vid but you should also boil the insects because a found a cricket and fed it to my ants but they died of parasites but if you boil it it will kill all parasites

      Ah yes, boiling and freezing insects are a must when feeding wild insects.

    Is anyone here from Ireland? I can n͟e͟v͟e͟r find any queens around.
    Would appreciate some tips for finding them around here.

    • @EnderAnts
      @EnderAnts  4 роки тому

      Ireland has a pretty cold climate, so it can be hard to find queens at times. Maybe try during the hottest days and look at parks, sidewalks, and trails

    Hi I’m @oreocookiekatt3 on insta! Thank you for helping me get rid of the vampiric mites of my pheidole ant colony! I gave them a cotton ball drenched in lemon juice (I don’t have fresh lemons bcuz quarantining and all that stuff) and the next day they were scratching off the mites on the cotton ball, and dead mites on the ground. Most of them seem to be mite-free now. Thanks a lot!

    Regarding heating.
    USE A THERMOSTAT FOR GODS SAKES.
    There are stories of reptiles with completely burned up undersides from poorly regulated heating.

    • @EnderAnts
      @EnderAnts  4 роки тому

      Yup, and what’s even worse is that if you have a lot of colonies on the heating pad, they all could end up overheating 😔

    • @bolt1437
      @bolt1437 4 роки тому

      @@EnderAnts Yeah you should also regulate what part of it the heating covers.
      IIRC ants like to move pupae to the warmth and Larvae to the moist areas.
      So it lets them have a gradiant and also means that they could possibly escape if an accident happened and tempratures started rising.
