    A few things I forgot to mention in the video:
    - Group up mobs tightly in dungeons so everyone’s AOE attacks can hit all of them easily. Wiggle around a bit to pull the mobs closer together
    - PLD and GNB can use their invulns as another mitigation in dungeons. You can do this at the start so it’s back up again towards the end. WAR/DRK get tricky if the healer keeps healing you when you use it. Feel free to tell them you plan on using it before the pull. Feel free to save it for an emergency if you’re unsure
    - Tank stance turns off when you get level synced down, remember to turn it back on when you get in the instance
    - Ranged attack generates more agro than other normal attacks
    - You can and should be giving mit/shields/heals to squishy party members as needed if they're in trouble (TBN, oblation, corundum, aurora, intervention, nascent)
    - Make sure a tank is always first in agro (“A” next to their name in party list) if both tanks die you have to provoke when you get back up to get the boss back. It’s likely slapping a dps in the meantime, so be quick
    - It’s good practice to turn your stance on after your opener as the off tank, tanks should always be 1 & 2 in agro in case the main tank dies or if there are two busters on agro 1 & 2 (typically a Savage mechanic)
    - If you want to get into extreme, savage, or ultimate on tank just watch a guide on the fight beforehand and make sure you know your rotation and mitigation like the back of your hand. Jump in there and give it a shot!
    Let me know if there’s anything else I forgot!

      For the level sync stance thing, this is why I have a greeting macro I click at the start of every dungeon:
      /p Lali-diddly-ho neighborinos!
      /ac "Iron Will"
      /ac "Defiance"
      /ac "Grit"
      /ac "Royal Guard"
      /wait 1
      /ac "Iron Will"
      /ac "Defiance"
      /ac "Grit"
      /ac "Royal Guard"
      This will make sure that, whether your stance was on or not before, it's on now; turning stance on is a 2s cd, turning it off is a 1s cd, so if the macro turned it on in the first round, it's still on cooldown after the /wait 1, but if the first set turned it off then it'll turn right back on. And you never have to actually remember to do it, as long as you're polite and click your Hello macro!

      From about 23:35 to 24:05 when explaining the colour of the enmity indicator in the enemy list, for some reason you worded it weirdly, probably just in the moment. You made it sound like for a tank the gem works inversely to the dps perspective (as in it changing colour from red towards green means you're "about to" lose aggro when it reaches green), when in reality for a tank any colour except solid red means that this mob is already hitting someone else instead of you and you need to pick it up with your aoe or provoke/ranged attack.

Showing you specific advice on cd management and how to pull packs optimally and positional stuff. Honestly the first thing you should be telling new players regardless of roles is to do the Hall of Novice duties. The game literally walks you through the basics of what to do in a dungeon with a party depending on the role you picked, and you can run all Novice duties on a single character provided you’ve level the right classes to 15. There is absolutely zero reason to skip hall of Novice even though it’s a side quest. It’s right outside of Aleport in the Limsa location. People should get comfortable with basics before tackling the more advanced stuff especially if you feel stressed or nervous. Once you get basics down and are comfortable 99.9% of people will leave you alone about your tanking in base game content. Outside a friendly reminder to turn on tank stance.

    I think something very valuable is setting up a hotbar next to the party list and adding macros for each and every party member for your sharable mitigations. It has improved my tank game by a ton by not only using my mitigations on myself and the cotank. You want to make it a macro so that you don't have to detarget the boss and click in the partylist to do your mitigations. Since I made my tank hotbars have these macros for sharable mitigations I cannot even count how many times I've saved scuffed PF runs of savage raids or just general gameplay. My biggest tip for anyone serious about tanking is to set up a hotbar like that and become more active about mitigating your healers or dps instead of yourself for aoe's and other mechanics. Your healers will love you and you will be surprised by how often you can spam these mitigations.

    just a side-note: it is very difficult to be so undergeared as a tank to lose aggro if you are hitting the mobs - if you properly aoe the packs with tank stance on, your weapon would need to be around 20 levels (or somewhere around 150-300 ilvl) lower than the minimum ilvl of the dungeon to be running into aggro issues, meaning the armor game would need to be popping off in order for you to meet MIL requirements, but not keep aggro.

    hello! Tank main here since 1.0. A note on 21:39 ; this is the correct way to pull with ranged or voke however you only need one per mob pack. Mob packs are tied together with lines you can see. when you voke or ranged attack one all the mobs in that chain will aggro to you. So, you can use ranged attack as you are going in then aoe. Or Voke then aoe. No need to use both. I find its better to save voke in case while you are pulling a mob falls behind and aggos a dps then you can quickly voke that mob and keep going.
    Those lines are also the reason some tanks get mad. If a dps pulls early all the mobs in that pack aggro them and the tank needs to aoe to pull them off the dps which can make it a bit annoying but overall thats your job! I usually just pop sprint so I'm always in front grabbing that initial aggro of the mob pack.

    • @danielbeattie9509
      @danielbeattie9509 5 місяців тому +5

      Sometime to note is the range on voke is much further than your ranged attack. Plus its off the GCD so you can voke to grab all there attention and as they run at you you can instantly use your AOE since you don't have to wait for the GCD. It depends on how the mobs are spaced most of the time. Also tanks getting mad is weird because a simple AOE picks all adds up instantly. The only time I would be mad as a tank is if they ran away from me instead of to me with the adds. If they get aggro and bring it in the pack they will instantly get picked up regardless. Although to be honest its rare to find a healer or dps in a dungeon that wants to go faster then me.

    • @booblaa9734
      @booblaa9734 5 місяців тому +1

      @danielbeattie9509 Yup I agree it's strange to get upset about that but it happens. Voke is farther and faster so I use voke and ranged interchangeably. Like you said the benefit of voke is its not a gcd so you can instantly hit your aoe after and it's longer range.

    • @SapphireDragon357
      @SapphireDragon357 5 місяців тому

      @@danielbeattie9509 "Also tanks getting mad is weird because a simple AOE picks all adds up instantly." I *ABSOLUTELY F*^$ING HATE* when dps pull this crap. Especially when they then say "I was doing you a favor!" I've never seen adds group up normally when a dps is beelining it back and expecting me to make up for their stupid. One of them will get an auto off, stop for a second, and then run in behind everything else, or there's ranged attacks (there's ALWAYS ranged attacks), or they'll try to tank until the rest of the party catches up. If I, the tank, was not already in front of you, it's because SOMEONE ELSE DID SOMETHING STUPID TOO and I had to hang back to fix it!
      The only time I will pull ahead of a tank, and the only time I understand when people do it to me, is when a buff is about to run out and the whole damn rotation is at stake.
      The worst, most toxic asshat I've ever seen was a Black Mage in Lost City of Amdapor. I would use sprint after each w2w, he would run normally for a bit... then teleport to me, use his own sprint so it lasted longer than mine, and use BLM range to pull the mobs ahead of me. Why, I could not possibly tell you. And when I asked him to stop doing that, he told me to pull faster. ....My brother in christ, MOTHERF*&^ING HOW WOULD I POSSIBLY DO THAT?!? They then kicked me from the party for daring to question them.

      @@SapphireDragon357 Sounds like cope from you. All i hear is its everyone's fault but your own. I'm a tank main and I pull for tanks all the time as DPS/heals and do shit like pop arms lengths to slow them all while bringing them directly back into the middle of the stacked pack. BLM needs to be ahead to precast or they aren't doing there job with doing as much damage as possible. I would be pissed as a tank if the dps were not actively putting out as much damage as possible or having mobs mostly dead by the time they get caught up to me because that is how you do it efficiently. It seems like you need to change your perspective and stop blaming others and instead think about your own actions. Plus regardless even if the dps shouldn't be pulling for you you can't control them and just sound petty if you complain or refuse to take hate back. My recommendation on dungeon mitigations is to start with your two 90 second ones for the first pack, on the second pack lead with your 2 minute and then arm's length after that ends, and have some proper cycling of your short mitigations and healing along the way, this applies to pulling wall to wall which for almost every dungeon past HW is literally two groups before you get gated before a boss.
    So for GNB for example...
    Rampart (90) -> Heart of Corundum/Aurora at any point -> Camouflage (90) + Reprisal(60) once Rampart ends. That's enough for one pack, move to the next.
    Nebula (120) - Heart of Corundum/Aurora at any point -> Arm's Length (120) + Reprisal (60) once Nebula ends, second packs tend to be a lot beefier and with this cycle your other 90 seconds are back up to use just in case you end up needing anymore. Works for PLD and WAR as well, though War rarely needs much.
    You need adjustment with DRK though as it lacks a 90 second cooldown, it's best to use your invuln as much as you can and communicate with your healer that you'll do it. Its short CD is very strong though and negates more damage than the others do so you may not need it. I do recommend using Invulns are your own discretion but this flat cycle applies to most situations.
    You'll eventually figure out what dungeons you need to plan things out more as 90% of dungeons in game are just hallways with two packs per pull, they almost don't need any proper planning or use of invulns, you can follow a designated order you wanna use and almost never have issues. With experience you'll know which dungeons have big boy pulls that you can try to optimize like in the 65 dungeon, first 70 one, 71's first pulls, 79's last pull, (literally all I can think of past ARR).

    As a Bard main, I can say from experience that Bards make squishy tanks. Also, when I do play Tank, I'm generally okay with pulling more mobs than just one (although it does get a bit anxiety-inducing at times because I don't *main* tank, I just play it for some variety or for achievements), but there was one time I was tanking in The Aurum Vale, and I was trying to get to the boss room pulling as few mobs as possible, and a DPS kept running around and pulling more mobs to us to have us take more time, and later in the dungeon would run ahead, aggro mobs, and get himself killed. Now, I'm the same way as the vlogger here; if someone pulls a mob I wasn't intending to at the time, I'll still aggro them to get them away from the party, but in this case, the DPS was obviously griefing the party and the healer was actually encouraging me to just let him tank any extra mobs he pulled.

    I go with the mindset: why deal with it later when you can handle it now? If you see a DPS pull a couple of mobs from the room you're in, it means, 'Hey, this room could be a problem if we wipe, so let's clean it up.' That way, the DPS or healer doesn't get jumped while doing the walk of shame back to the boss they wiped on.

    Dungeon mit rotation. You only need 1 and very seldomly 2 mitigations up at a time.
    Short (bloodwhetting, heart of corrundum etc)-->long (rampart, vengeance, camoflauge, sentinel etc)---> short--->long.
    Usually the pull will be over during the second short.
    Good mits to combine when needed for pulls are arms length and reprisal.
    Good mits to combine for tank busters are a short and long. Think bloodwhetting+vengeance.
    Mits that rarely get combined. Any 2 long mits. Think rampart and vengeance. Savage hits hard sometimes and requires the kitchen sink though.
    Mits to never combine. Vengeance and arms length. The slow and reflect do not stack. Something weird with the fact they both proc off physical hits.

      Something else for warrior specifically. Shake it off will eat active buffs from vengeance, thrill of battle and bloodwhetting in return for 2% more shield. This is almost never worth eating vengeance and bloodwhetting buffs unless they are about to full off. Thrill of battle is an exception. Shake it off snapshots your max hp when you use it. Basically if you have 100hp and use shake it off you’ll get a 15hp shield. However if you use thrill of battle your hap will jump to 120hp. Then use shake it off you’ll get a 20.4hp shield. 15% for shake it off+2% for eating thrill of battle buff.

      @Someone_3lse I already made another comment with a bunch of info. This is just 1 part:
      Notes on cd usage for dungeons: You want to stack cds as much as you possibly can. Anything under 1 min should be used for every pull. (Repraisal, and your short cd) and you should never save cds for bosses or tank busters as you can always use your short cd for those and even then you won't need it vs tanking a wall to wall pull. Its also about dungeon knowledge... if you can pull to the boss wall then you don't need to save any cds and should use them all... And then its job specific stuff as well. Playing a pld always Hallowed ground the first 10 seconds of the first large pull that way you can maybe get it back for a large pull before the last boss. Don't stack vengeance and arms length because you want them hitting you faster for the damage back. Etc If you are running with a whitemage that is holy spamming you can wait a few seconds to layer your cds for when the stuns wear off. But generally speaking you want to think about how you can use as many cds as you can. This will allow the support to do much more dps and the packs will die way quicker which is more overall mitigation and less damage taken.
      This is specific for dungeon cd usage. For savage and ultimates, it's clearly different, and you should work on mapping your cds to be consistent with each pull, but obviously, these will be different for each fight.

    • @Someone_3lse
      @Someone_3lse 5 місяців тому +1

      @@danielbeattie9509 you don’t want to stack a bunch of mits because of diminishing returns. You can check this yourself by comparing the damage you receive without mits to what you receive when using just rampart and to what you receive when using just bloodwhetting. Otherwise we’d just stack a bunch of mits for 100% damage reduction.
      As for arms length and vengeance. Their slow/reflect literally overwrite each other. You can not apply both at the same time. caetsu chaiji has a video showing how they do not stack at all even when both are active

    I think most new tanks struggle on is just the mitigation juggling. which one to use first, which one should stack and able to know when one is about to end and cast the next mitigation being they are mix of short durations.
    everything else is pretty simple.

    • @danielbeattie9509
      @danielbeattie9509 5 місяців тому

      Think about the spacing for the content and aim to use your cds as much as you can to maximize usages. While learning new content you can keep some mitigation in the reserve but as you learn the content more you can figure out when you can safely start to use all your cds to the maximum efficiency. For dungeons this is mainly used for big pulls and for raids its mainly used on tank busters. For dungeons its best to stack your cds as much as you can for big pulls since most big pulls die within 20 seconds assuming dps were hitting it on the way and everyone is doing AOE. So run them into position and start stacking your cds.at the first of the pull as soon as you get in position unless you are doing something like invuln or holy spam etc... and then you can use it after. Also you typically dont need more then short cds for small groups of 3-4 mobs so just reprisal, blood whetting/heart etc stuff that will come back for the next pull regardless. I think the biggest mistakes most beginner tanks make is not using as many cds as they can and instead using the least that they can which is totally backwards. I go through dungeons sometimes and they use 1 cd at a time or never even use some of there cds for the whole run.

      Trusts are the Scion Avatar NPC. You need to level them pretty similarly as the Grand Company Squadrons, by taking them on with you.

    An interesting element of tanking to me is how many players want really huge pulls, but I think that's a misconception. Because most non-tank AOEs max out at X targets, I feel like it's rarely efficient to pull more than two packs at a time. (corrected below)

    Haven't even finished the video yet. I'm a tank main. Ultimate cleared. As soon as I got to the tank etiquette section you earned a like.
    Some correction if the aggro list shows anything but red it means you do not have 1st hate. Green means you have no hate. Yellow means you have some hate but are not the top of the list therefore not tanking.
    Another note. I know you mention LOSing but your reasoning was a bit off. The example you give in Aurum Vale isn't used to avoid ranged damage... Its used to stack enemies. When you LOS a ranged mob it is forced to move to a position that can hit you. Death balling or stacking all mobs together is extremely important and LOS is a good way to force ranged to catch up. You can also run back and stack the pack on top of ranged mobs as well. This isn't a good idea in Aurum vale as you want to avoid the patrols but a good example is the room in Dzemael Darkhold after the 2nd boss. You pick up all the hate but its all ranged and on opposite sides of the room.. if you run far up the ramp in the back it forces them to the middle and then you run back and stack on them.

I had a specific question, I recently cleared uwu and tea, working on dsr and ucob right now, and... as I get used to controller, I feel like I can do ok in a dungeon pull, but the idea of an ult on controller right now seems... scary 😅, do you have any Ult specific controller tips? (or, is there a video of yours I haven't watched yet that you think could help?). P.S. I main tank and heals, so I guess I'm mainly thinking of all the different party member and/or boss target swapping I'd be doing while also double weaving compared to a dps perhaps. I'm so used to using the F1-F8 keys for party and Tab for boss(s).

    • @99_Vit
      @99_Vit  5 місяців тому

      If you’ve already watched the controller guide I don’t have too much else to add. You could potentially macro an important mit or healing button to all 7 of the party members so you don’t have to target, but that would take up most of a hotbar. This shouldn’t be super necessary for the most part but could help save a run if something’s going bad I guess. But you’ll most likely know ahead of time who you need to heal/mit when things are going smoothly and it should be okay to just target normally. I just play dps in ulti, sorry I don’t have any secret tricks haha I just press feint

    • @danielbeattie9509
      @danielbeattie9509 5 місяців тому +2

      Using a voke to pull is usually superior to your ranged attack. For 1 you can use it at a further range and it will give you top hate on every enemy in the pack. This will give them more time to bunch up as they run towards you and since it was an oGCD you can now instantly use your AOE on the pack that is grouped up as you are running through them. The only way you lose hate is if you don't hit them with an AOE or ranged attack at least once. So if you are running through and using only your ranged attack you need to make sure you cycle through each one once. If the mobs are spaced out you can do this but if they are in packs its better to try to get the AOE off while running through them to do them all at once. If you miss someone target them with the list and send them back a ranged attack or if they are out of range just keep running and the dps or healer will eventually bring them closer when you get the group of mobs stacked up. Most dungeons have 2 big packs to pull so voke the first one then AOE through it. On the second one use your ranged attack asap and then get on top of them and start AOEing. If the dungeon has spread out mobs like Brayflox hard for example you can ranged attack each mob as you run. Knowing the tricks should now hopefully help you understand when to apply each one.

    My rule of thumb for tanks is. Attempt to wall to wall pull first. The game is balanced around it so I honestly think doing that is just bare minimum as a tank. If your healer is pulling more mobs for you it's because they're confident in their healing skills so just let them or do it for them. If you're scared or new, atleast attempt to do it once. Don't just say no without trying. If you live. Congrats keep doing that from now on. If u die. Find out why. Is it healer issue? Did u stand in aoes too much? Did u use any of your mitigation? But if u say no and don't try At that point as a healer you're just wasting my time so I'll leave and re queue
