Actual reason: they know the difference, just don't wanna pay to use the original green hill theme. They'd rather replace it with music they own the full rights to. Did the same thing for Forces and Sonic Speed Simulator. It's also why Rumble uses the Forces Chemical Plant theme and not the original.
