    When I started watching this video, I thought that "oh nice! BD1!"
    Then when I went to like it, I saw the date posted. One day ago. And I thought "OH MY GOSH! BD1 CONTENT IN 2023!"
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    For me, the problem with Arcanist is that it doesn't have a place. It does a ton of damage, if your enemy has conditions. Late game bosses resist most conditions, and grinding requires you to wipe everything out turn 1, without the setup Arcanist wants.

      I ended up combining it with Red Mage to make a pretty versatile BP battery that could both damage, debuff, and support.
      Black magic for poison/sleep/silence/dread, white magic for raise/esuna/dispel/reflect, and the arcanist abilities to pump damage when needed.
      Ya there are better ways to make a BP battery, but this way seemed less boring and less OP. And whenever a game lets me poison bosses I love doing it.

    I like the symmetry of the last four standard jobs (not counting Conjurer and Vampire, which have their own rigamarole to unlock) mirroring the 4 starter jobs you get, but Arcanist, unlike Spiritmaster, Templar, and Dark Knight feels like it took the writing prompt and stuck a little too close. Admittedly, Black Mage has the most narrow niche of the 4 starter jobs, being pure Magic DPS and ailment spreader, which the Arcanist does capitalize on well enough, but the other three jobs don't need their respective "Base Forms" to be competent.
    Spiritmaster does have the closest problem, with its specialty requiring WM as a sub job, but its kit is so good and versatile, you can run it on basically any support job and be fine.
    Dark Knight/Monk is teased in the game, as a pair of jobs that sacrifice HP for powerful physical attacks, and Monk having a massive HP pool, but DK is perfectly serviceable with any number of other Physical DPS jobs, especially ones that have alternative drawbacks or skills that can mitigate its HP burning abilities.
    Templar is obviously quite good with Knight, but honestly might be a bit overkill, it does offer some useful offensive abilities to the Knight, which generally focuses a bit more on defense, but it does offer Rampart and useful BP modulating and crit abilities to any tank, support, or DPS job in the game.
    And then there's this. It really only works with BM as a sub job. Sure you can use Spell Fencer or Vampire to spread status instead (or the arguably better Salve Maker), but you lose out on so much of the Arcanist's kit without reliable access to BM. It's honestly a bit disappointing. And its own suite of offensive skills are rather lackluster on any mage that isn't a BM as well, as most are very situational at best, and churn through massive MP otherwise.

    Also, another niche use of Arcanist is reaching unga bunga damage with bravely second, which yes hardly matters and doesn't make the job any better, but if you, speaking hypothetically of course, accidentally give yourself 99 sp while trying to save-edit norende villagers because the online functions died (again, purely hypothetical scenario that in no way happened), it may be worth considering

    Honestly, I think (at least for leveling purposes) main arcanist sub red mage may be the ticket. Easy access to poison, healing and support in a pinch and the huge int and save b.mag mp can let you use amp black magic to deal respectable damage with the -ra spells. Also optimizes out the physical prowess of the red mage and trades out its specialty for something a little more reliable.

    The usefulness of this job is very short-lived imo, since its main appeal is high magical damage but you can easily reach the damage cap a bit further into the game and with more durable, reliable and less restricting combinations. It's such a shame too, I expected the job tied to a recurring figure (Victoria) to have more of an impact gameplay wise, but alas. I will however always be grateful to this job because aracnist+black mage was one of the few combinations that allowed to reliably deal with those fucking infernal hounds in derosso's castle on my first playthrough, and subsequent ones as well. It also helps with grinding outside Florem in chapter 5 so there's that

    Man this brings me back. For a while I had Tiz spamming Annihilation (with Red Mage's In The Red) while my team has Dark Shields. Hit a roadblock with that Airy fight where she makes you weak to everything which somehow negated the dark immunity from the shields. Then I discovered Stillness + Hasten World. Had Tiz spam 4 Iniquities every 2 turns with Agnes rolling out Stillness immediately after on the same turn. Never had another problem and Ringabel and Edea were just along for the ride.
    Looking though comments now and wow. Did nobody else use Arcanist? Sure the abilities dependent on status conditions are kinda useless but the BP dependent ones are amazing. Just use Hasten World and maybe Singer's One More For You to give each enemy extra BP and them spam Iniquity.

    If set up properly, using a red mage BP battery with poison and BP Recovery, paired with the spiritmaster's Adaptation spell (possibly cast by the Arcanist with Spiritmaster job command, you could create a scenario where the Arcanist's Exterminate spell can fully heal your team and deal significant damage to the whole enemy side every time it attacks, with the same singular move.

    Ive never felt like I needed arcanist, Im really good at making extremely powerful mages without it, I dont use status effects very often and if I wanna do max damage Im gonna use my physical DPS Tiz who can reach max damage pretty easily if I play it right.
    However, on my phone Ive had a picture of concept art of Tiz as a arcanist and I think its really cute, specifically the hat. So even if I'll probably never ever use the job, its still winning in my mind

    Arcanist, probably the one and only job in this game I could never see myself finding a team slot for. Summoner and Merchant are also pretty bad, but at least they're available fairly early in the game and at least offer SOMETHING to the team. Summoner can be used as a direct upgrade for a Black Mage due to the higher base INT and MP stats while also having expensive but otherwise complimentary Earth and Wind damage (which are also conveniently the first 2 summons you can get). Merchant, while a borderline meme job, can at least function as a situational but usable support job with BP Drinks, Low/High Leverage, Pay to Play, and Pharmacy (plus being your best source of easy money for most the game).
    Arcanist though... it's a job that's advertised as Black Mage+, but ironically leans WAY too heavily into that to where it essentially is forced to run Black Mage as a sub-job (HALF of it's support skills and spells are for something it doesnt even have natively in it's own kit ffs), or have an ally who is able to inflict poison/sleep... statuses that can really only reliably be inflicted by an Arcanist running a Black Mage sub later in the game. All that for a very high damage magic damage output that a properly built Black/Time Mage or Summoner could already be doing much more consistently for a bit more MP.
    Ya, hard pass on this job. Takes way too much time, effort, and essentially a full team composition to do something that even the other worst mage job in the game (Summoner) can at least do reliably without needing to dedicate a full team to it.

    • @Jadersgames
      @Jadersgames  11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, when I find myself using Arcanist on those very rare occasions, it's usually only for Free Lunch + Internment or during challenge runs. I just wish the job could at least apply ailments itself without help. If it had that, I'm sure it would be at least more consistent than it is right now.

    • @loren5432
      @loren5432 3 місяці тому

      I disagree, even though I'd consider both Arcanist and Summoner to be low tier jobs, I at least found the Arcanist to be somewhat more useful compared to Summoner.
      Summoner's main problem (excluding the unskippable cutscenes) is that when you get it, your MP is so low that unless you're running Aspir, you're going to burn through your MP before you even finish the battle, and by the time you do have enough mana to run it, magic gets severely outclassed by physical classes. Not to mention, Summoner's attacks are tied to dealing AoE damage (since damage isn't split between the enemies, unlike the other mage's cases), and almost all of the bosses in the game tend to be on their own.
      Arcanist heavily requieres to be paired with BM to even function (which is dumb if you ask me), but it has the highest INT stat if my memory's not wrong (meaning it does plenty of magic damage), and with the right poison set up, you can easily deal 9999 damage to most enemies, bosses included.

    I rarely use the Arcanist. It can be strong, but there's so many other, stronger class and class combos. I usually have a Spirit Master/White Mage combo for Stillness, Monk/Dark Knight to deal basically guaranteed 9999 damage each hit, Ninja/Thief for much the same, and Thief/Time Mage or Templar/Time Mage for Hasten World and high damage and/or heal MP for the Spirit Master. That's what I usually go for.

    Honestly despite this Job being objectively kinda bad I personally love it. It has the best offensive spell in the game, Interment, so long as you are not facing a foe with darkness resist or immunity. Better than Meteor due to its consistency in hitting groups and its capability to be powered up with items. The Bushido Arcanist with Pierce Magic Defense and Zero hard carried me through the fight with that one new years Kamiizumi fight in Norrende. For one final point top two jobs aesthetically. I love dark magic and I love clowns. Combining them is just awesome, though the female costume is a bit better than the male.

    I just don't understand why these jobs weren't in Bravely Second. From what I've seen or heard of, they never explained why Victor or Victoria's asterisks go missing which is even stranger since Sage Yulyana gets explained being that he died very early on in Bravely Second. And granted, things like Stillness are very OP but so are things Like Undo from the Exorcist job and nobody complained about it (as far as I know).

    Bravely default content in 2023? Yes!
    But I def found arcanist kind of lame it's really hard to put poison on the bosses even with all the support abilities equipped when I tried to use it. And in random encounters by the time I had an AOE arcanist set up I already had easier ways to nuke mobs. The job got overhauled in bravely default 2 and is really fun in that game. Some of the supports are cool tho. And the MP consumption ability is easy to fix with a dual wielding healer to spam. I do really like the male arcanist design, the girls just kind of sucks because they up scaled Victoria's costume without adding details to make up for the fact that Victoria is tiny.

    • @Jadersgames
      @Jadersgames  11 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I'm glad they brought it back in BD2 and made some changes to it. Arcanist is really cool concept in this game imo, but it just falls short in a few too many places for it to be a mainstay on any of the teams I've ran. A shame, really.

    Yeah, Arcanist is the one job i absolutely didn`t miss in Bravely Second. It is clunky, comes too late in the game to be of actual use since by the time you get it you propably have already a well-built team that can deal with random encounters without issue and the outfits are a huge yikes (aside from the hat). Even the Black Magic support passives can be substituited with passives from another classes.....

      I went back and forth on whether or not the Arcanist would get D or C tier when it came to fashion, but the more I pondered, the more I found myself liking the stupid head pieces more and more. The rest of the outfit is D-tier material though, I'll give you that.
