They didn't get the story right for these murderers' first attempt. It was a lot more scary. Late at night, a retired cop relaxing in his cabin with his son got a really bad feeling that there was someone outside his house, maybe trying to peer through the curtains. One guy knocked at the door of this cop's isolated house late at night while the other hid in the bushes. The man inside was with his son. He felt 'something' was off, that the kid wasn't alone, and that he shouldn't open the door. When he refused to let him in, the kid at the door got angry, and then the cop lifted his shirt to show him his weapon in a holster. The kid played apologetic but asked the homeowner if he could call AAA for them. When the man tried to make that call, he found the phone didn't work. When he went back to the door, the kid was smirking at him, "like he wanted me to know he'd cut the wires."
The kid took off, while the guy holstered his weapon, got his hunting rifle and loaded it, and stayed up all night.
Later on, it turned out the two boys had already dug a grave for this guy and his kid.

Yeah well when narrating a situation for the purpose of entertainment, you're going to embellish the phraseology you use to make things more interesting. The fact of the perceived whereabouts of the perpetrator by the investigators at that specific moment is key information to the narration, everybody would rather hear what was said as oppose to "he either left or he's still here". Thats boring, we're all watching this for entertainment. The deduction and how it was presented is perfect for the scenario. The fact that you bring this up in a comment in a demeaning manner just shows you've a very false sense of self confidence based on being "above" others, be it intellectually or in a common sense situation like now. The fact that you're not content with you're own thoughts and deductions of a situation and feel the need to comment it shows youre also not very confident in you're own thoughts. You need likes and replys to validate that you're own thoughts and opinions are considered what you consider other people consider is the norm. Work on yourself, you've alot of work to do

It is only in America where a 17 year old young man is still considered a child. In other cultures 16 and 17 year olds they are already considered adult men. The push to label people essentially children until 25 in America is indulgent and is responsible for the rise in young men and women refusing to take accountablility for their actions.
As soon as you know right from wrong you are accountable for your decisions. I have teenagers and treat mine as adults from 16 plus. They budget for themselves, learn to cook, do their own laundry etc and babying young adults is not helping them learn the skills they need to deal with the world and learning what is expected from them when they have to adult.

I knew kids who enjoy seeing others suffer, normally starting with animals. The youngest psychopath I met was 3 years old and I was the same age. He made me bleed and I was shocked to see the happiness on his face when he caused me pain and my blood. Since then I have never trusted kids. Evilness knows no age limit.

In the US there are billions of dollars of weapon and gun manufactures, as a result the US has to wage wars so the factories can keep producing. If you creat prisons and billions of dollars of justice system they have to find people to stand trail, to be jailed. In another words they have to justify their budget. I am a Muslim guy who travels. In many airports I am stopped and spoken to more than anybody else in the flight...I say they have to justify the budget the airport spends on the security personnel; otherwise they will be out of work. So, they have to find a problem to look busy.

The writing on the blackboard at 16:36 cracks me up. That's the the kind of thing that's taught in schools, not Ivy League colleges. The research in this doc is a bit iffy anyway - her name was Susanna, not Suzanne. A pretty basic detail to get wrong, imo. AND they gloss over the story about the killers' first intended targets - I think the guy's name was Andrew Patty. They had pre-dug a grave for him and his young son but his instinct saved them. It's insane. There's a better doc on this case, might be under Cold Blood or something - it's worth checking out.

So the cliché that knife murders are perpetrated by someone the victim knows and who really hates them is once again proved wrong. Many frenzied overkill knife attacks are, like this one, carried out by complete strangers. It wasn’t profiling that caught the killers, it was the stupidity of the teenage offenders who left the knife sheaths at the crime scene. If they hadn’t done that, they would have gotten away with murder. This show likes to portray law enforcement officers as brilliant investigators, but in almost every episode it is a lucky break and forensics that cracks the case, not profiling. Profiling of serial killers can be accurate and helpful, but again it is a mistake by the killer, or a witness that provides the breakthrough needed. BTK got away with his crimes for 30 years and basically turned himself in by taunting police in the media. Ed Kemper did turn himself in. Bundy used his real name when trolling for victims. Film, tv and the media like to glorify the FBI as this crack team of geniuses who always get their man. The facts don’t bear that out all.
