Also can I say thankyou for the theatrics, the classic drive through the pile of leaves, when their were no trees around to create those perfectly brown creations. Which means you either went out the woods and found some leaves to sweep up. Or bought a pack of leaves off a prop store via the net and then dump them their, abd then drove through them. Great video for an on going problem with all Mustangs. I have enjoyed a 65 and 68. The cooling solution for me was not electric, not very trust worthy. I used a stock 68 big block radiator ( 24 inch) and a high flow water pumps. Not all water pumps are created equal. I also, run a 195 temp value. Cars runs perfect with a/c and Florida heat. Keep up the good work
Nicely packed trunk for the perfect road trip. Nice hose-age. Always delighted to learn things I never knew I'd want to know. Must 'ang out here more often. Ta.
These new replacement radiator have a much higher fin count per inch than the old original raditors . They are more efficient and can shed more heat quicker than old core design . As Edd shines the light through the core its easy to see the higher fin count . More fins shed more heat .
If you’re stood in traffic the viscus fan goes faster and slows down when the engine revs increase as the car is moving and air moves through the radiator fast enough to cool the engine.
Nice to see you Ed, best wishes to you, I could have done with your help, my bmw x5 had to have a timing chain replacement, and it's been an absolute nightmare!
Edd I saw one of the Outspan cars at Custom Car show Crystal Palace around '72. Years later 3 of them were in a yard in South London rotting away for years I used to drive past
Good to see you back Edd.. You always have great content.. If I could make a recommendation it would be to put a 200A inline fuse between the Alternator and Positive side of the solenoid.. Good way to protect your new investment.. Anyway, looking forward to seeing much more of your content.. 👍
the dimples on the blades are anti-cavitation. Because at this speed of movement i.e. pressure the air is reacting like water hence cavitation and damaging the blades.
Huge respect to Edd after years on Wheeler Dealers but if you're going to modernise a vintage car's cooling system by adding an electric fan, you might as well replace the old heavy brass/copper radiator with a lightweight aluminium unit. The aluminium unit would also be more effective at dissipating heat and keeping the engine cool.
2 top tips. 1st.. unless you are presenting a pebble beach show car, source an Aluminium radiator, the reason is 2 fold . Although aluminium is thicker and can reduce thermal transfer, the aftermarket suppliers are able increase the surface area ( not overall size) for the coolant to properly do its job. Another reason for using aluminium is metal fatigue from the thermal cycling and exposure to the elements. Copper/brass unit WILL eventually corrode and de-laminate due to the cooling fins separating from the cooling tubes . 2nd one is placement of the fan switch. External switches like this SHOULD be either in the engine block or as close to the water pump exit side as possible. Having that switch at the pump or block ensures it will activate as the peak temperature of coolant exits the system .
Great video, good to see you back. However, on the Alternator wiring, you did the right thing wiring a new correctly sized cable, but you did not put in a inline high amperage fuse. This will protect in the rare happenstance the alternator or cable got shorted. Also, you disconnected the Alternator jumper harness and tucked the engine harness side of the inline connector above the crossmember. The main B+ of this connector will still be live, the Black/Yellow Wire. This is because it wires to the B+ side of the Starter Relay and is spliced with the main feed for the fuse panel. You either need to seal up that intermediate connector the alternator jumper connects to, or alter the wiring so that Black/Yellow circuit no longer has power. Also, the field circuit will be powered (White Wire) if the original regulator is plugged back in. Might want leave that unplugged.
I own a 1966 Mustang nearly identical to this one. The electrics are theoretical to put it mildly. I have kept it entirely stock except for one thing; I got rid of the points and put in an electronic ignition. It is the best thing I ever did. It absolutely transformed how the car runs and drives. Points are just awful.
@@eddchina I like them feeling old. And mechanical. I don’t mind drum brakes at all and am fine without power steering. It just needs to start reliably and run smoothly

Love these old first generation Mustangs! I had a '65 coupe I inherited from my dad, had a base-level 289 w/2bbl carb and a 3 speed manual. I was rebuilding the engine and had some life situations that made me have to stop and sell it all. :-( I had the heads ported, larger 1.90/1.60 valves put in and a Comp High Energy Cam to go in with 1.6 roller tip rockers. I also had picked up an original 4bbl Motorcraft carb that was from a 289 HiPo. All engine fasteners were replaced with ARP bolts. All I needed was an intake (probably a Weiand or Edelbrock dual-plane lo-rise) and pushrods to get it together and fire it up. I'd love to know how it all turned out. I'd guess it would be good for up to about 250HP, up from the stock 200. The idea was to connect a modern T-5 transmission and get that 289 singing. *sigh* The best laid plans of mice and men...
😀👍🏿 YO the china man is still in the room..And I'm here for it. I'd love to be in his or anyone else like him circle of close friends for comradery and knowledge.
Early Mustangs never had many issues, very simple cars. Would have been better to keep the original fan and just changed the radiator. My first car was a 1966 (in 1983), back in the day you could get a radiator pulled, pressure tested, welded and painted for like $35 in NJ USA, that would probably cost you $800 today, so a new OEM new old stock or a knock off radiator would be way cheaper.
