Here is the second installment of our somewhat foolish Ferrari 308GT4 project. We are on our way to getting its wonderful (but potentially very expensive) V8 engine fired into life and this first job of getting the fuel system to work is very important. The next episode is likely to be the office building build, let me know of this side of our workshop activity is as interesting as the car projects... Thanks for watching!!
Whatever you do Edd with your meticulous manners it's pure entertainment for us. Thank you for share all your experience. You've been a great source of inspiration during all these years
To Edd and company; what a fantastic production. I love the subject matter, methods and music. Wishing you all the success that I can within the limited framework of the imperial system 😅.
Hi Edd and crew,, I had one of these GT4’s which I rebuilt mechanically so here are a few pointers from watching this episode, Regarding the fuel system, inside that canister which is actually the fuel filter holder is a fuel filter, I did see you blow through it but it would probably be a good idea to open it up and replace that filter, There’s also another fine gauze filter behind that nipple which was connected to the fuel tank, seeing that you were able to pump fuel around and into that bottle chances are it’s not blocked but it wouldn’t hurt to remove, check and clean if needed being you are this far into it.. Also as mentioned, there is a fuel filler hose which connects the fuel filler pipe to the top of the tank,, that hose often gets over looked as it’s hidden but after 50 years, it will most likely be perished and has been a source of engine fires when people have refuelled at the gas station.. The reason the rear spark plugs had more corrosion than the front is that when it rains, the water drops right down on that rear bank and water pools up on to the spark plugs, even they are protected somewhat by rubber spark plug well boots.. On my car I fabricated a small gutter/channel that sat under the firewall that caught any rainwater and drained it to the sides of the car.. Great show which is bringing back a whole lot of memories,, I’l certainly be watching it until the end
Edd stated that he would replace the filter once the 'cleansing fuel' has been inserted, circulated and removed - ie. to prevent the unnesssary contamination of a new filter. Agree with the requirement to replace the hose near the filler neck as it's also likely to be perished.
I already spotted the same sentiment I feel watching this episode in comments from others, but man, what a pleasure to see you do what you do best: Break down something complicated into its much easier constituent parts! And the music, camera work; Yahoo!!! What a gift!! Thanks guys!!!
@ I just found the mustang episode, somehow that slipped by me, same thing: old school (as in your core love for) machanics combined with a perfect Score and camera work! You’re on a roll!!
Edd is back!!! This has a vintage Edd feel to it and it's awesome to see you in this role again!!! I loved the Range Rover project and this one is going to be even better!!! Happy new Year Edd China and Team!!!
Happy New Year to you all too! The Range Rover will be back for more work soon but hopefully th Ferrari (and office building) is a welcome addition to our steaming pile of projects!
@@eddchina I have a feeling the fun with the 'Cheapest Ferrari in all of Europe' has just begun. Hoping you get to use some of the old WD magic to quadruple its value. Loved the cars that were misdiagnosed by previous shops and sold to Mike for a song. The one where you fixed the Porsche Boxster transmission with a ten pence bolt was the best (outside of the Lambo episode).
I always thought that Edd was wasted on the Wheeler Dealers format, which had to be simplified and shortened for entertainment. I LOVE this slower, more detailed cadence. Combining this with his practiced presenter skills makes this about as high quality an offering as I’ve found.
This is the Edd we know and love! This is fantastic. A fascinating project, and it's great to have you back doing what you do best. We have all missed this so much.
Lovely! This is the type of videos we want more of. Regarding that fuel balance pipe, I’d cut it in half and joined it with a hose to make it easier to get out in the future..
Lovely progress! :) Makes me nostalgic for the old Wheeler Dealers episode that featured the same model, even in the same color! But now, we get a much more in-depth look at all the little details that went amiss in the much more fast-paced TV production, and it's just fascinating how intricately these things are put together...
Ok, so I'll go out there and say this is one if the best episodes so far. Crazy to say, but this channel improves the quality of my life! Not kidding! Thanks Edd!
From what's been found so far it looks to me like the car has been run on a shoestring budget with minimal maintenance for the latter part of it's working life and just parked up when it became too troublesome. At least cars of this era are purely mechanical with NO fancy electronics and the nightmare that can come with troubleshooting them. This vid just shows why the temptation to pour in some fresh fuel and try for a start should be avoided at all costs!👍 Slow, steady and methodical gets the job done. Great!😀
Nice to see Ed back. I bumped into him at a conference in Bournemouth, hes a really nice guy. I dont have Ed's patience and would have left the balance pipe in position to remove the drain plug. Sprayed the plug with Kroill and heated it with induction heater, to be belts and braces you could run a nitrogen purge gas through the tanks. I'm looking forward to the next video. The tanks are aluminium, which explains the lack of internal corrosion 😊
This is my Ed China dream rebuild. I was 10 years old when this Dino/Ferrari started production and I know it's not most peoples favourite but it's always been mine. Good luck and I am looking forward to hopefully many hours of enjoyment watching. Thank you Ed!
OMG, I've missed this version of Edd doing his thing! There were times when I thought it'd never be like this again, but I'm so happy to see stuff this interesting again - and so is my wife! We're going to have to do something about the climate control in the shop though! The mini-building inside of a building is a good start for some warm refuge, but seeing your breath inside - well, that's just un-American! LOL!!!
I'm really glad I found your channel, I used to love watching wheeler dealers and while I enjoyed some of the segments with Mike Brewer, it was watching you actually fixing the cars that really made that show special, and now I've discovered this channel I can once again watch you doing what you do best, turning a tired old classic into a thing of beauty. I can't wait to see the Ferrari up and running, that's going to be so satisfying when it's all done
For fiddly jobs like cleaning that banjo fitting I've found that a gun-barrel cleaning product called "Ultraclean" made by a company called Napier of London is really good. It's basically a woven patch material that's rough on one side for scrubbing and smooth on the other for polishing. Cut a bit off the roll, clamp one end in a split pin and wrap it 'round to the desired diameter. You can also use little bits in a loop of plastic covered wire as a "pull through" on bendy metal fuel and oil pipes. I learnt about this after spending an afternoon trying to fish out the lump of cotton wool that had fallen off the end of the plastic in a really annoying place. A set of phosphor-bronze gun-cleaning brushes is also a useful thing to have in the workshop too. You can get them from about 4.5mm up to 20mm and they're really good for cleaning out gummed up threads in engine blocks.
WHAT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR! I unsubscribed last vid because there was too much talking, not much working, and you wrote me a couple of vids ago that you'd work on that, but I was impatient, apparently. Good job. (For you, it's not a big deal-what's one negative comment in a sea of a million fans? But for me, following you since the beginning, it mattered a lot. Thank you very much.)
this was a really lovely episode - start to finish - relaxed work and this is something i really love here - the timeline is realistic :) it takes a lot of time to fix a car. I wish you all best for this year :) cheers :)
Love the content Eddie. Just one thing with the new building. Always fit you bolts nut down. Then if the nuts come loose the bolt doesn't drop & still acts as pin.
Edd is working on cars...instant subscribe from me. Thank you Edd, now we can see your projects as they go on. I've been a fan since the old W.D days and what a great adventure you took me through with this repair. 10/10
I was a big fan of "Wheeler Dealers," and I was bummed when Ed decided to part ways. I understand why, though. While I still enjoy that show, it's evolved into something that I just don't enjoy as much. The Motortrend transformation of the old Velocity Channel has sapped away most of what I enjoyed, and I rarely watch anymore. Seeing what Ed is up to makes me happy & I look forward to future adventures.
Where have I been?! Hopefully you will have time to catch up on all of the other episodes we have for you! We've got the Range Rover, Outspan Orange car, Electric Ice Cream Van, even a couple of boats...Enjoy!
Edd, Ive got to say this is one of the best videos you have done on your channel, back to basics, just like the old days, Edd fixing cars, love it. I know you have been exploring what your content should be like recently and for me (and it can only ever be my view) this is it. Edd fix cars, perfect, why rewrite a hit.
It took about half of the video for me to stop panic breathing over the thought of old fuel seeping into John's watch. Apart from that... I thoroughly enjoyed every last second of it. Well done, gentlemen.
The 308 is renowned for choke problems because the choke control doesn’t get used; it’s unnecessary to start the car. You need just a few pumps on the accelerator to start it even in really cold weather. If warm just slowly open the throttles and turn the key. For preventative maintenance it’s a good idea to check the tanks for micro perforation where they rest on their insulating pads; it’s a known problem area for corrosion. Also, while the air box is off check the coolant pipe running down the centre of the V. It gets baked and can split.
Ed, im a fan of your show (your work was the heart of wheelers dealers)! Great to seeing you again reviving old wonders, make me remember the urraco episode, greetings from Argentina!!
What a great watch! As many others are suggesting you’ve hit the mark with this upload. Whatever it is that makes people watchable you’ve got in Edd. Please keep these quality videos coming 👍
As @BillRyan said "Edd is Back!!" And I have to say I'm super elated that he is. The way he describes as the work is being done is phenomenal. Even a novice like me can understand. Thanks Mr. China, keep up the fantastic work!!
I love this! I can relate to this project, though I have Alfa Romeos, not Ferraris! But this is otherwise similar to projects I am hoping to get back into. Several years ago, Edd worked on an Alfa Spider on... some other program ;-) That video gave me the confidence and inspiration I needed to get my Alfa back on the road. Thanks again, Edd! Brilliant.
It's always an informative delight and great pleasure, to watch our Hero mechanic in action - especially when he's wearing many fan's (me included 😆), favourite Edd T-shirt. Go Edd Go☮️❤️🏎️
Brilliant to have you back Edd, it's like all the good bits of Wheeler Dealers again. I am just about to recommission my aged Bentley which will need similar care to the fuel system as this Ferrari so watching with great interest.
Great video! It's great to see you working on all those details. It feels like doing it myself - which creates a feeling of success (which I didn't have an hour ago when working on my own car...). Thanks Edd! Please continue the great work. I am very curious about this project!
This is wonderful to watch. It's so good to see you back where you belong, just doing your thing. I'm inspired to get on with my own car / motorcycle jobs.
'Ello Ello ello me old China!' This is AWESOME! I mean from Wheeler Dealers, I loved the mechanical sessions, and this harkens back to a simpler time. Gotta say, that I love EVERY moment of this. The videography is absolutely on top as well! Edd, your content is still TV level, in the best possible way :3
Well i can't blame john for buying another project, if you get a chance to buy something cool for a nice price you should get it. Especially if you have the room for it, and well the range rover is a time consuming restoration project as the ferrarri is more of a huge maintenance project seeing the car itself seems in fine condition. Seeing that office project is interesting, its nice to see your and johns handy work to do something else. Can come in handy if i wanna build my own little side/inside building if it ever comes to that, and then say i learned the handy work from watching your youtube channel. Your channel has also helped me doing a lot of work on my own car(s), i had a car technics course but i can always learn more seeing you work on cars and such.
I really like this type of content from Edd. Bringing an old vehicle back to safe and reliable operation. Not a restoration or resto-mod, but for normal use. When he mentioned the new office, and "American", my first thought was to bring in an Airstream caravan. Would would look cool, but not to be. Looking forward to seeing what gets built, and glad all the other people helping will have a nice place to be. Hoping the heating is via something like a Spilt DX air conditioner, heat for winter, cooling for summer. Particularly if there is going to be an editing suite (or is that Edditing suite) with some reasonably powerful computing power inside.
This is superb! Feels like the Wheeler Dealers of old 😁 Great progress Ed and your attention to detail is unmatched. Simple things like fogging (well, spraying) the bores which satisfies my OCD immeasurably. This is what we want! As a side note - totally random but I'd love to see you restore a D2 Audi S8 some day. Would make for great content (I've had 2 of 'em over the years and they have interesting issues that would make for great YT content as a resto project). Eagerly awaiting next vid!!
It's great to see you working methodically through getting this old classic back on the road. Also, it is really interesting to see your workshop and your new touches to it.
I watched it with pleasure and taking notes, sir. It was a really tiring work with a lot of technical details. The advantage of the cheap price has turned into a disadvantage. I'm so glad you got it done, it's a great job, even if the fuel issue is an additional challenge. Congratulations, sir. 😊🙌
Welcome back to our screens Edd China, ( and without Mike Brewer )! You are always a pleasure to watch and Very knowledgeable!! The spark plugs would cleaned alright, but for the price, NGK are GOOD Quality spark plugs!! I am confident the engine should run after all the attention, but Really it needs to come OUT for a Full Proper service, it is the Best way on such vehicles!
On my old GT4 after loosening the front bank spark plugs I used an old garden hose to turn them and get them out and do the reverse when putting in new plugs. Worked really well.
Cracking to see you back at it with the weekly installments, thank you. Would be great to see a segment on using a multimeter and how to troubleshoot using one.
I think I'll be the first subscriber to tell you, but you Mr. China are the best in all the tubers to give the most and best earthy explanation for what you are mechanically actually doing. right-O then... thank you for all your fantastic videos 😊
Classic Ed China, it is awesome that you're back on YT with these fantastic car repairs!!! And i'm glad the episodes are now stretched over multiple videos, so you can buff your channel with lots of minutes watch time haha. Cheers!
That vibraphone music was ideal "Music to watch paint dry", so it works equally well as we see the seam sealer do its stuff! I thought for a moment that the extra thickness you had added to the pipe in those few places was going to be a space killer in getting it back in ....
OMG Edd. Just found your channel after watching your show for years. This is so theraputic. lol Cant wait to watch the backlog and be a new subscriber. Top man
I work on a lot of old cars that have been standing and fuel system rubber parts are a part I look at replacing, all of them. Some are very available, some not. Metal tubes can fill with deposits from evaporated petrol can often be blown out. Same goes for a lot of coolant hoses. All fixable.
Awesome. I loooooove the detail. Especially good for moral support on our own projects. Recently challenged myself to tackle Cam belt, Waterpump, camshaft seals, crankshaft seals coolant hoses and aux belts on my 2003 mx5. Honestly the biggest headache I had was rusted parts and seized or crumbling bolts. If you could do a "how to" on removing rusted bolts and using heat etc, re-tapping threads (I had to re-tap 2 bolts into the oil pump on the block AND cam cylinder head bolt holes 😫) ...Thatd be great...!
I will consider this series of UA-cam-clips "Influenzo 2" and hoping for as many episodes as Jack Pegoraro (aka Number 27) did on his 308 GTS named Influenzo. This is brilliant!
Welcome back boys and a Happy New Year to you both. I'm liking witnessing the kidney flush of this potential monster, amongst other routine ops. Also looking forward to hearing her wail...but not too soon as I'm learning lots as we head towards that moment...with this and other episodes in this series. Great stuff, keep up the good work! Also it is strange to see such good bodywork coupled with obviously somewhat neglected serviceable parts - cost implications here, me finx!
Edd you are an absolute genius and joy to watch, always making even mundane stuff interesting. I always thought that you were the real star of Wheeler Dealers. Thanks for another great video.
Greatest respect for Ed China and his marvelous talent putting vehicles back on the road. I am surprised that they didn’t go for an engine out service straight away, give the unknown condition of the engine. An engine out service would give them the most access to the engine internals, the valvetrain, etc, and do a compression test, and ascertain how much wear there is in the engine. I recall on a wheeler dealer episode, they did an engine out service on a vintage Lamborghini, so it surprises me they didn’t go that route here. Apparently the new owner doesn’t have the budget for a restoration of this vehicle. Shame!
Just as an extra info piece, my choke control on my Lotus Esprit S3 was not good. Long cable. I only needed the inner (original was rusty at the engine end. Lotus wanted lots of money for a replacement of course. I ended up using a tandem pushbike derailleur gear change cable. Perfect. Still working 30 years on !!!!
How wonderful to see you in a new project, this is just the old whealer dealers, univers, which I like so Much, so I am so looking forevard to the next episodes. Thank you Edd.
Here is the second installment of our somewhat foolish Ferrari 308GT4 project.
Wonderful video edd, its so good to see you back with regular videos, i knew you were hiding for a reason, glad i stayed 😁
'Ello Ello ello me old China!'
This is AWESOME! I mean from Wheeler Dealers, I loved the mechanical sessions, and this harkens back to a simpler time.
Gotta say, that I love EVERY moment of this. The videography is absolutely on top as well!
Edd, your content is still TV level, in the best possible way :3
Good to see u back. Wheeler dealers wasn’t the same when u left the show it went down hill after that in my eyes 🤣 Al be watching every video 👏🇬🇧
Thank you so much Edd. I was just telling my wife we needed fix our Ferrari’s leaky fuel system.
After a long day at work ,coming home and watching Ed work is relaxing, sorry Ed but I love how you work thru a problem.
Oh my, this is a treat. Thank you Edd and co., this series is going to be fun to watch, and hopefully quicker than the Range Rover!
Edd you are doing it fantastic. You were one of my inspiration why I started with this lovely hobby repairing and restoring old cars!
Hi Edd please keep on going lovely to see you restore a Ferrari and getting another classic back on on the road. Catch you soon!
😊🙌
Love this! Well done not dropping a nut or washer down the carb venturi, my heart was in my mouth watching that bit!
So good to see this type of content, longer form and (as others have said) nice progress in the video with breakdowns of complicated!
Sei grande Edd !! 🤙🏼
È un piacere vederti di nuovo al lavoro 😁
Thanks Edd and John. I've really enjoyed both Ferrari videos. Good luck with the office build too.
Edd is finally back ! 😊
Thank you for brightening up the beginning of 2025 with such joyful presents. Can't wait for more episodes.
Nice one Edd, good to see this sort of content again. Glad you have found something that isn't that boring range rover
Cracking to see you back at it with the weekly installments, thank you. Would be great to see a segment on using a multimeter and how to troubleshoot using one.
Ah mighty stuff Ed. It's great to see this kind of detailed content again from you on such an iconic car. Looking forward to the next episode.
I think I'll be the first subscriber to tell you, but you Mr. China are the best in all the tubers to give the most and best earthy explanation for what you are mechanically actually doing.
right-O then... thank you for all your fantastic videos 😊
Great show, Edd. Very relaxing to watch your show. Compared with some to much other UA-cam content, yours is very fun & enjoyable.
Classic Ed China, it is awesome that you're back on YT with these fantastic car repairs!!! And i'm glad the episodes are now stretched over multiple videos, so you can buff your channel with lots of minutes watch time haha. Cheers!
back to Saturday morning coffee with Ed and the gang 🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍 I hope
The 308 Dino is such an underrated sports car, please take your time with this project, this will be enjoyable to watch!
Ahhh this entire project is filling me with joy! All the little details, the whole reason I started watching the channel! Love it!
Great project Edd. Please don’t do too much to the paint. I like the patina look. Plus you won’t want to leave / park it anywhere if you paint it 😍👍
Inheritance machining calls the "unplanned" extra work as side quests. So good job completing our sidequests.
Top man
I love all the little tricks of the trade Edd shows that we may need to use with our own projects.
Love it!
Very excited to see what challenges you'll overcome next 😊
Let’s get it to start!!
I work on a lot of old cars that have been standing and fuel system rubber parts are a part I look at replacing, all of them. Some are very available, some not. Metal tubes can fill with deposits from evaporated petrol can often be blown out. Same goes for a lot of coolant hoses. All fixable.
A mechanic that actually diagnoses issues...a rare breed people!
Much better than wheeler dealers was, keep it up Edd. 👍❤️
I love your channel Ed. It’s all the things I loved about WD, without any of the bits I didn’t 👍🏻👌🏻
Editting and video quality are top noch Edd and of coruse the soul of the show is present as well. Glad to see you again 🎉
Thankyou very much gentlemen. Very enjoyable viewing.👍👍👍👍👍
Liking the background music - very Lalo Schifrin.
Great to see Ed again. Loving the Outspan orange car with lights in. 👍👍
EDD CHINA ---- THE GREATEST MECHANIC TO EVER BREATHE AIR ON PLANET EARTH 😀😀😀😀
Edd you are an absolute genius and joy to watch, always making even mundane stuff interesting. I always thought that you were the real star of Wheeler Dealers. Thanks for another great video.
The only automotive content I enjoy on YT. Well done, Edd. Bravo and Happy New year!
Shame!
I would assume they are doing it this way for production purposes. I.E., for the purposes of video content.
Always great watching you work Edd. I like the interspersed bits of building the new space as well. Great format!
How wonderful to see you in a new project, this is just the old whealer dealers, univers, which I like so Much, so I am so looking forevard to the next episodes. Thank you Edd.
Excellent , this is the stuff i like to watch just like the good old days of the original Wheeler Dealers. Can`t wait for the next episode
