If you have a bit of crit bonus in your build it can pack quite the punch and with it being silenced sneak crits can really add up. Can be better than bone stock sniper rifle at times
12:10 plus with Ratslayer, you have the different ammo types (AP, HP mostly) so it's an easy "one gun run" weapon, same with dinner bell (or shotguns in general). The ammo type changeout makes it so you can swap ammo based on whatever enemy you encounter and do a fine job. Plus because it's a varmint rifle, it's super cheap to repair with juryrigging!

One important note concerning obtaining the Ratslayer using a stealth boy early: do not wear medium or heavy armor while cloaked-that armor produces "noise" and will alert the rats to your presence even if you're using a Stealth Boy. Light armor, regular clothes or going butt naked will maximize your stealth.
Ive been binging your Fallout 3 and New Vegas videos and I gotta give you massive praise. You take the tier list and top ten formats and then talk in depth about game stats and game mechanics while also making the videos fun to watch. I love it
Slight correction: Grunt works with the Assault Carbine, but it doesn't work with the GRA version. Grunt is from the Honest Hearts DLC, so it interacts with the base version just fine, but the GRA version came out on that DLC, and DLC can't interfere with other DLCs without mods. Great video, great tierlist!
Holy moly I was NOT expecting a Jin Roh reference in this video. I literally never put two and two together, but it's true that the Veteran Ranger Design looks very similar!
@@cgijokerman5787 if they did make a fallout game set in that time it would have to lean into the grayness of morality and sense the war ended in 1945 it'd just be remnants and maybe their are undertones of a cold war to the east with the Ncr or whatever faction being stationed in Germany
While the anti-materiel rifle is slow, in my eyes it's still a good VATS weapon as long as you're not being ganged up on, because when you can aim at specific parts, you're pretty much guaranteed to stop the enemy in their tracks and have all the time in the world to finish them off if you didn't one-shot them anyway.
My favorite thing to do with the abilene kid bb gun is grab the guaranteed stealth boys from goodsprings run all the way north grab the bb gun and pick up the ycs/186 by stealth boy close enough to kill the guy in combat armor take it wear it and completely body the rest of them. Even if they have a reinforced combat armor mark 2 their health is usually so low that headshot sneak crit will down them instantly. and the rest of them won't be prepared enough to fight you even with your fist if you put on the dead guy's armor. That reason also makes it a s rank thanks to cheese.
The Survivalist Rifle is based on the .50 Beowulf round specifically according to Josh Sawyer. The change in handguard is because the model (and rifle) use a shorter, heavier, barrel. Interestingly, the in game model says it was produced in Annexed Canada and was a checkpoint carbine. So it seems the pre war military was attempting to give some sort of anti-material capability to the infantry manning checkpoints against vehicles. Though without the longer barrel, you wont get much velocity or muzzle energy out of such a small round, meaning its ability to punch through small vehicles like its cousin the Anti-Material Rifle is minimal at best.
@zacknowles9711 true, but I was more comparing .50 Beowulf to .50BMG or 12.7x108 in the anti-material role. I still wouldn't wanna get hit with either.
@Honor_and_Steel ah, completely true, I have noticed my 50 Beowulf rifle also strains the ar-15 system, it beats up the buffer tube and springs pretty quick
@@Ducking69 the M16 wasn't stuck in full auto or burst, in fact the M16A1 in particular had no burst functionality without modification. Also it makes sense the NCR would remove the select fire on their weapons, don't want the troopers wasting all their ammo.
4:00 Small correction. While yes you can put .223 rounds in 5.56 chambered guns, you REALLY don’t wanna do it the other way around. 5.56 ammo is slightly longer than .223, and is likely to get jammed in a gun chambered in .223.
the anti-material rifle unmodded is only really A tier for me unmodded not only is the ammo really damn heavy but 20 weight is insane especially with the sawyer mod that nerfs companion carry weight
These comps are the perfect thing to have going in my car during the long drives home from work.
I do the same but during work
I always carry The Ratslayer, mostly out of fondness, but even at level cap I find myself using it. S in my ❤

best weapon to kill low level monsters
I mean it's good for almost anything that isn't too tanky or beefy, especially with even the most bare bones basic crit build.
Night vision scope and silencer, it's a must for any sneaky sniper.

This Machine/Battle Rifle users: haha! Get wrecked wannabe Mussolini!
Do I detect a None Piece reference??
It angers me in a special way how theres only 4 actual ballistic rifles in fallout 3 while fallout nv has more than I can count
Paciencia helped a lot by making all my shots counts.
Hence the name!
nah same but i wish it had 5 rounds like the other hunting rifles, for awhile i used it to hunt deathclaws 💀

This Machine is becoming my favorite. Lots of leg work to get at first. But using those JSP rounds are unstoppable
You should do a merchant tier list! There are some merchants that are really good for buying weapons and ammo
i would love that
Really good to be back & watching your work, cheers from Yorkshire
Awesome! Thank you!

I wait until I have Boone and ED-E with me before taking on the rats.
@@CliffSedge-nu5fv You can do that. Or, like I said, you can grab it as early as level 1 with just the Stealth Boy from the school house.
in the viva new vegas remaster that josh sawyer worked on the varmint rifle shoots .22 which makes a lot more sense

The varmit rifle is still technically a .22 claiber rifle
The JSawyer / Vigor mods fix that.

Is that also why Cowboy doesn't work on the Police Pistol?
Doesn't matter with the dmg that much so just use the GRA version

I think Cowboy is a base game perk, though I am now unsure, so that would be on the Police Pistols end instead.

To be fair, even the NV devs don’t know what their guns are based on sometimes.
