    For those who have the most common AN515-52, i5 8300h, 1050ti. These are the custom settings: XTU undervolt -0.130v, MSI Afterburner GPU overclock, core clock: +180, memory clock: +880. (Don't go lower on the undervolt, CPU crashes on idle if you do. I already tested these settings extensively, and this is the sweet spot for the GPU) Also, always use Max fan speed on NitroSense when gaming, they are gonna rev up, so is gonna be loud anyway.
    My CPU won't even reach 90C, but I took the risk of using liquid metal, so take that into consideration.
    Undervolt itself lowered my thermals from 7 to 10 C alone.
    Good luck.

    I have spent some time testing my NITRO 5, and hope this comment might be helpful for some owners of this laptop.
    So, if you don't want to change the thermal pasting, or download software to under clock etc, there are few things you can do to not burn your hardware and still be able to play games (comes with compromise) with some easy adjustments with no extra software or hardware mod required.
    In the nitro sense app, set it up to power saver, this will have an impact on performance but it will keep the thermals on check, when this option is highlighted my laptop never went over 75 degrees even after heavy gaming.
    Not the best solution but works, you will have to compromise and set graphics on lower settings than the laptop can actually handle, but sadly using the 100% of this laptop makes me a bit nervous since I could cook a meal with the temperatures it reaches, was playing wow (game you can play on a toaster) and it was giving me temps of over 90 degree Celsius if I left the damn high performance mode.
    There are also some tweaks you can do on the NVIDIA control panel 3d graphics settings, just a quick search in UA-cam will pop up some good videos and you can squeeze a bit more performance and better looking games.
    Also don't forget to go to the game settings on windows, and be sure your games are actually using your NVIDIA GPU.
    With only this 2 tweaks (Power saving mode + NVIDIA panel tweaks) I am now able to play SFV looking smooth and good (Had to compromise and use 720p res and medium settings) and not burn my system, I don't play the most demanding graphical games so it was extremely annoying having 90+ degrees all the time when it clearly didn't had to happen (lowering life expectancy of your laptop for no god damn reason).

      Bruh I have a friend with the Ryzen version of the laptop and his temperatures never reach more than 75 no matter what, Intel version overheats a lot I might just get the Ryzen one

    • @morid0
      @morid0 3 роки тому

      @@ItsNylrak I have the intel version and yeah I regret it, I used to get very nervous with 90 degree temps before I did some tweaks and set it to power saving mode, quite sure I lowered the life expectancy of my laptop since I did some heavy gaming under those temps for months, tried buying a cooling pad (gives you only like 1 or 2 degrees less tops) some other kind of external heat vacuum, also not the best, put some external fans, combination of all but nothing really worked, only thing that work with out changing the thermal pasting was throttle the power consumption via setting and using it on power saving mode.

I want to get a laptop that can handle all of my uni needs but also double as a good gaming laptop. Where I live the l340 is going for £650 (around $800) I can’t find a better laptop for the same price but honestly I don’t exactly know what to look for, £650 is probably the most I could spend on a laptop right now and I need it to last about 4 years at least. It's ok if you need something with a less "gamer" look, the only others with similar price/specs I'd probably prefer if Nitro 5 is out would be the Dell G3, at least it has dual channel memory potential, though CPU power limits are still on the lower side like this machine so performance is down a little vs slightly more expensive options (nitro 5 doesn't have this issue, and also has better fan speed control).

      Undervolting with intel xtu is not dangerous as even if you undervolt too much the laptop will just crash and reboot. After the reboot all voltage configurations will be reset to the default, so it will be fine again with no harm at all. Undervolting doesnt hurt the cpu, overvolting that does. The worst it could happen is the laptop lock up and reboot and then it will reset the voltage configs.
      And no i dont think it does void warranty, as the manufacturers cant even prove you done it if you reset to the default configuration, and its not something that can damage the cpu.
      Undervolting may increase performance even if clock speeds are a bit lower than the theorical maximum of the cpu because it may drop less the speed than it would with thermal and tdp throttle in stock configs.
      But keep in mind that even 2 cpus with the exact same model may undervolt differently, one may go down -0.150v, the other may not even be able to pass -0.05v without crashing, its a matter of luck. They call this "the silicon lottery".

      AMD laptops tend to run cooler than Intel ones as the power limits are lower, this does however mean performance is not quite as good. If you're looking at an Intel based Nitro, then it will probably perform better than an AMD based TUF.

    After using this notebook for 2 years - version with 3550H and 1650, I had my ups and downs with this one. I like that it's quite modular - have 3 drives installed and upgraded memory. However in terms of gaming... I had throttles and notebook turned off while playing Crysis 1 (original) :D... This happens on stock settings with pretty much every cpu intensive game, new or even some older. Without watching several videos on youtube which showed me Ryzen Controller and reading articles I'd be lost. Official acer forums are also full of very unintelligent people that will tell you lot of nonsense about throttle temps being ok though not all people there are like this.
    With Ryzen controller set up to limit temp to 85c and TDP limit, cooling pad and so on this is a very potent machine. Though... this CPU apparently can't handle sea of thieves well... I decided to keep this laptop for some more time. Sister recently bought lenovo with newer AMD cpu and it runs cool and quiet. I was not much more expensive than Nitro 5. Maybe next time I'll just buy that one rather than another Acer.

    3 years later, my Acer Nitro 5 (AN512-42 Ryzen 7 2700u w Mobile Vega Graphics | RX 560X 4GB) is hitting 95 C whilst in idle mode. Well to be fair the fans are not spinning anymore, and the thermal paste was later reapplied 2 year later. Haven't opened my Laptop since there are stripped screws, but I'm guessing the fan is either dirty or its ded.

    Hello
    I have the exact same model. I repasted the GPU and CPU and saw that there is some orange paste besides the grey thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. I dont know what that paste is and what its needed for. That orange paste is on 6 spots. Is it possible that thats a thermal paste for each core? I wonder if it would lower my temps if i repaste them aswell? Is it even Thermal paste just in orange color?

      All Coolboost does is ramps up your fan speed when on auto settings, so it's perfectly safe to do at any time. I turned it on after noticing my CPU temps were getting towards 90 degrees. It did help moderate heat spikes a bit.

    I did a research and it seems that acer service is terrible if something goes wrong with the laptop as they only have mail in warranty. Should I go for the Lenovo L340 instead of nitro 5?

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 років тому

      Eh, I feel like there are issues with that type of thing regardless of who you pick, I don't personally let it decide what product I pick. L340 will perform significantly worse, lower CPU power limit, no fan control, single channel memory. It does look less "gamery" though. You can see my experience with lenovo support in my L340 review, they tried to charge me $200 for a HDD cable lol.

    • @AthifKhan
      @AthifKhan 5 років тому

      @@JarrodsTech Yea i agree most of the companies have crappy support but in the case of lenovo I have the option to opt for a on site warranty for 2 or 3 years whereas with acer I am limited to one year mail in warranty which can be a pain in the ass. I have removed l340 from my shortlist and swapped it with Y7000. But unfortunately you haven't reviewed it yet :(

      @@JarrodsTech I had a Nitro 5 (i5 8300h, 144hz screen, GTX 1060), it was hitting 95C CPU and 70C+ GPU when playing Dota 2 on mid Graphics. I returned it after three days as my finger tips would be very uncomfortable and computer was extremely loud. I read around and didn't feel as though undervolting etc. would be enough. Thought it was a defective model, got a replacement and saw the same things. So just returned that one as well and spent my money on a Medion Erazer X6807 (exact same specs) and runs a lot cooler (albeit louder) though I'm going to get a cooling pad anyway. Think I should have made more effort for a solution or there a chance of an issue with this particular batch of Nitro 5s and I got unlucky?

      @@jackm7324 it could be defective or... your unit comes with bonus dust clogging the vents. Here's my tip, put your hands on the exhaust when you're playing, if the air doesn't come out as much as your fan sounds, something is blocking the vents. you'll be surprised how much difference it made once you clean it.

    I have the Acer Nitro 5 2018 with i7-8750h, GTX 1060 6 GB, 256 Gb SSS + 1 Tb HDD. I ve undervolted the CPU -0,125 mV, limit power management at 80 % and a cooling pad for the laptop. The max temperature i've had in Battlefield, GTA, AC Origins , Forza Horizon 4 was a max 60-67 Celsius with a room temperature of 28-30 degrees ( I live in South-East Europe, it's very hot this summer, above 35-38 Celsius outside). It depends how wll it is configured. Personally, I'm very satisfied with this laptop.

      Depends on how much you use it. Typically I find the battery dies first on most laptops followed by the charge connection. But after 4-5 years something will probably break and won't be worth fixing. If you want a computer that lasts 6+ years buy a desktop running ryzen and upgrade it later.

    I have the 2008 Acer Nitro 5 model with the highest specs.
    Whats weird with Nitro 5 laptop is that on normal usage (Google Chrome, Slack, and one editor open) the CPU usage and temperatures are getting higher reaching at least 92 celcius degrees, which is not normal for what Im using the laptop (on gaming it reaches up to 97 degrees CPU and 85 degrees GPU). The funny thing is that the laptop is not getting hot and the moment I open task manager or CPU-Z the temperatures return back to normal (40 - 55 degrees) and the fans slow from 5000 RPM to 2800 RPM.
    Hope u have encountered it as an issue and have a solution for it.
    Thanks :)
