    I'm a 74 year old lady who followed this video exactly and saved myself at least $400!! It was an easy fix. I will probably have to replace this again in a few years (this is the second replacement-first one was done under warranty) so I will definitely invest in a spring stretcher tool. It's only $12 on Amazon and would have saved me a LOT of frustration when it comes to getting the ring back on the front drum gasket. Thanks so much for this great video!!! Oh....and I suggest wearing gloves when taking the top and the front of the machine panels off.....that will definitely cut down the metals cuts!

      Wow thank you for saying that. That makes it worth all the hours I spent making the video. I know this video is slow for some people but I wanted to be through & make sure anyone could do the project.

    I just finished doing this. Your video helped tremendously. That ring is a major pain. I shook the old pump and water came out.

      Thank you for taking the time to leave a nice comment. Yeah I definitely think the ring is the worst part. My first time it probably took me an hour because I had no idea what I was doing. I can’t believe how cheaply they make the pumps for being such an important part of the whole machine.

    Thanks for the video. I've replaced my pump and I'm running a tub-clean cycle now. Don't think I'd even have attempted it without such a video.

    This is a great video. Just followed the instructions, fixed my washer, and saved myself a big repair bill. Thanks.
    Out of caution, I ordered the "original" part from LG for about $60 (incl. shipping), which turned out to be just like the broken one in my machine. It was an ASKOLL part -- the same brand as the one you had to replace and with all the same characteristics, but with a different part number. When I pulled on the rotor on the old one, it came out and I found that the chamber was completely full of soggy lint. 6000 views on this video tells me something is not right these pumps.
    Next time, I will definitely buy an old fashioned washer and an old fashioned dryer -- if they still make them! Until then, I am happy I found this video.

    Thank you for the video! I've already replaced the drain pump twice on my WM399HWA. The ring re-installation made me want to jump off a cliff, so I gave up and replaced the spring with a zip tie and it works.

    Had to chuckle when you shared your review of the unit. Yep. I followed your logic and also can to your same conclusion. If you want your clothes dry without wrinkles, you need more BTUs for a real clothes dryer. I think this a good unit for an RV or small off-grid property because it runs on 110 volts, is small (its all in one), and doesn't require external venting. This is my third LG washer and I would say its not great at washing the clothes either but its better easier than hand washing. I'm also on my third pump in five years. ...wait, maybe its not better than hand washing.

    Great video! Very helpful. Since the two pump motors are AC, the exact placement of the wires is probably not critical (i.e. no distinct positive and negative). I would also offer this pro-tip (that I just thought of because it happened to me): before you button everything back up again, pour a glass or two of water in the washer tub to make sure the big hose is seated properly (ask me how I know). Likewise, you could also reconnect the door switch and run a brief drain/spin cycle with the spin disabled to verify that your new pump is doing something. I ended up taking it apart twice to deal with water flooding out of the leaking hose fitting.
    Another thing worth doing is buying the specialized tool for stretching the spring while reinstalling the gasket. I ended up putting it back together without the band because I couldn't do it by hand. It doesn't seem to need the band to prevent leaks, so I'll just use the machine until I get the tool and can finish it properly.

    Your awsome thank you! I have already had to have my pump replaced once aleady. He said because i have well water its common. And its gone again. Then it was under warrenty still, unfortunetly its not now. But thats easy enough to do! Im excited you made this vide9 thank you!

      Thank you for taking the time to leave a nice comment. Unfortunately I think it’s the quality of the motors that is the main problem I’ve had to replace mine every year I’ve owned my washer / dryer & I’m on city water. You might want to look for a motor with a lifetime warranty. It feels good to save a buck and do the job yourself. The only part I hate is the putting the spring on the drum.

    Thank you! I was going to do this myself but mine is shoved in a little itty bitty area in my bathroom in my tiny home. I love all the extra tips and tricks, never would have thought of that I like taking things apart then wondering wth the extra screw goes. Definitely going to use those on any and all activities I do on diy projects.

    Hey, thank you so much for this video, dude. It was a HUGE help. The vid is super detailed and gove great tips, and warnings about tricky aspects of the replacement. The only part I was iffy on was putting back those 3 bolts that hold down the pump assembly because there are kind squishy rubber pads those bolts go through, so I was unsure of how much to tighten them. Anyway, fantastic video, and thank you again!

      @jt9602 Рік тому +2

      Thank you for taking the time to send me a nice message. It makes all the time I took making video worth it. I tried to make it detailed enough that anyone with basic tools could fix it. I had some complaints that is was to detailed… I guess you can’t please everyone.
      As for those 3 bolts you don’t need to tighten them down much. The rubber is there to dampen the vibration of the motor. So when the bolts are secure the motor should be able to move around.

    Just got mine apart after factory motor impeller failed. Just a note that on mine (same model number & purchased in 2018) my blue & black wires were opposite yours, brown and black wires were opposite yours, and hot and cold water connections were opposite yours. Also the 3 screws that hold the pump/motor bracket to the washer are 10mm hex heads. New factory motor is supposed to arrive tomorrow along with a wiring harness. Not sure what to expect with the opposite conditions I found on mine compared to yours.

      @alohawaii222 Рік тому

      Does anyone know, what would happen if you switched the cold and hot water valves? Also what is the role of hot and cold water to the drain pump?

    • @jt9602
      @jt9602 Рік тому

      I don’t believe there should be any problems with the wire color being different. Motors run with wires placed on either terminal from my experiences of playing around with them. AC & DC

    • @jt9602
      @jt9602 Рік тому

      @@alohawaii222 I would confirm that you put it back together the way it was originally setup. Why take the risk of something going wrong with a washer that already has problems.

    There are 2 screws, TWO, that you MUST remove down at the bottom-left corner of the main-door assembly panel, holding the plastic piece covering the drain filter (one is painted white, the other is BEHIND that) that you MUST remove AFTER you remove the top 6 screws or you will DESTROY the entire front metal panel!!! The panel the door is attached to DOES NOT "just come right off" without removing those 2 screws which is NOT in the video!!!
    Fortunately I said to myself, "this is not "just coming right off" so there must be something else holding it on" before I bent the crap out of the entire front metal panel.

    I purchased a PartsBroz pump and it lasted 6 months. I actually ordered a second one since this seems to be a breakdown that you can’t escape with a different pump. I don’t even use my washer / Dryer combo to dry the cloths… I thought that might be the problem why it was going bad.

    Just a question for you what is the make and model of the sidekick that you have and does it dry as well?

    • @jt9602
      @jt9602 Рік тому

      The sidekick doesn’t dry it’s only a washer. It’s really only good for super small loads like delicates. As for the model I’m not sure but I made a video how to fix it when the lid gets stuck. You could check my video. I just brought the washer and combo to the basement, the pump broke for the 5th time in 5 years. I’m done with it!
