This whole postseaon run was amazing for the Sox. What's crazy is that they brought Eric Gagne to be the 8th inning guy to bolster up an already great bullpen. They knew he wasnt the 50 save closer from 2002-04 but he still was having a good season when they brought him over. Then he just stunk it up with the Sox and barely got a postseason roster spot. Everytime he pitched this postseason, it was almost an accident waiting to happen. Terry mostly used him in the postseason when the game was practically over and someone had to eat up an inning. Imagine had he pitched like he did in the first half of 2007, that bullpen would've been unstoppable.

FooFighters1188 Buck was right. There's a difference in having aces that dont pitch well and complete stiffs on the mound. Burba and Nagy didnt scare anyone from 98-99 the way Carmona and Sabathia did in 07
I swear to god... I was in college watching this game, at a sports bar. And they had the game in the loud speaker and when he said that the entire bar lost it. It was great. The nigh turned straight into a South Park themed night. Everyone got racists and we all loved it.
This Cleveland team was one wild mishmash of streaky talents, one hit wonders, guys playing too early, washed up stars, and high-potential guys who never quite put it all together. Not even slightly surprising they blew a big series lead.
Yeah that’s a matter of opinion, personally I think different parts were better in ‘04, and others were better in ‘07. The pitching rotation was much better in ‘04 because outside of Beckett, the rest of the rotation wasn’t very good, Schilling was at the end of his career and was barely getting it done, back in ‘04 you had Schill, and Pedro, plus, D-Lowe and Arroyo. The overall lineups had much more power in ‘04, but I think the bullpen was better in ‘07.
@@MAGA4EVA1986 07' rotation was deeper but 04' was better at the top end. Beckett Shilling Lester Matzusaka Wakefield not bad at all 1-5. Add the fact that Beckett was the best pitcher on the planet that year. Not even close the 04 Sox team was better hands down and they had a better regular season record of 98 wins as in the 2007 Sox they only won 96 wins that season. Heck the the 2013 team was better than the 07 Sox and it was more exciting to watch them too
This was Dustin Pedroias first full season in the majors and as soon as the Sox made the postseason Pedroia played on an elite level of his own. Pedroia was a better player in as a whole and in the clutch than Derek Jeter ever was and should have been given the same hype Jeter was always given. Pedroia was a better hitter and DEFINITELY a better fielder. If my life was dependant.on a player hitting home run I'd pick David Ortiz. If my life was dependent on a player getting a hit against the best ACE pitcher in baseball, Id pick Dustin Pedroia EASILY. Pedroia is my favorite baseball player EVER. Pedroia didn't give a flying F*CK about the opponent and their status or situational pressure. Dude packed his lunch pail and went to work through the good and the bad. Pedroia played the game right!
Lets not forget boston trailed in the first 4 games and indians scored first, but in the final three games once boston scored first they won those games.
The 2007 American League Championship Series was a 7-game love affair between the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians. It was aired live on Net 25 from October 13-22, 2007, as the coverage was hosted by the late Veronica Cleofe-Alejar with Henry Liao, Jonathan Dela Cruz, Morly Alinio, and Atty. Dodo Dulay as Studio Analysts, together with Edwil Zabala (Play-by-Play) and Kathleen Guerrero (Color Commentary) as commentators alongside Diane De Castro-Triguero and Elmer Caseles as Field Reporters
Trailing 3-games-to-1 in this best of seven, the Red Sox rallied off three straight victories to win the series. The games weren't even close, as Boston stunned the Indians by outscoring them 30-5 in the process.
I was literally on the toilet when that happened. It was the 3rd inning 2 outs. Manny was slumping...I was like well, I can poop....then look what happened.
Jose Carranza Yeah, just slightly better. Even so, Josh Beckett was 2-0 vs. C.C. Sabathia in this ALCS, especially in Game 5(At Cleveland) when The Indians had a chance to Win the Pennant At Home, but it was Beckett who pitched Like a Cy Young Winner that night Striking Out 11 Batters over 8 Innings while giving up Cleveland’s Only Run of the Game. Some Cy Young Award Winner Sabathia was in 2007.
Jiltedin2007 Not just slightly better, ERA CC was much better than josh. More complete games and strikeouts. Playoffs has nothing to do with regular season awards.
Game 5 of this series was probably the closest thing to a classic (2 went into extras, but was pretty ugly on all sides, and most of the others were blowouts almost all the way). Not sure what this game is here for, although I'm happy to watch it anyway.
I was hoping for the Indians to win this series. Not going to say they would have won because if they played that badly in the last 3 games they should not have.
Trade deadline major acquisition Eric gagne finishing the game at the end lmao , he was awful for the red sox and luckily the team was so loaded that they were able to win still ...
Josh Beckett had one of the most dominating Playoff Run of All-Time. He had pinpoint control with 96-97mph Fastball and threw the nastiest straight 12-6 Curveball you’ve ever seen. It seemed like no one could touch him. You knew he was going to win...
Why are there no clips of Gms 2-4 of this series ANYWHERE?!?! That was compelling baseball. And yes, the Indians would've also stomped the Rockies in the World Series. Oh well.
It's frustrating that finding full games is so difficult. I'm still trying to find most of the Red Sox 2013 season to download along with past playoff games.
Blake Pettys Fuck the 2003 Yankees. If the 2003 Red Sox had a different manager they would have won the pennant. Best team not to win the world series was the 2004 Cardinals who's ace was hurt going into the WS against Boston
Maybe. But had Cleveland shut Boston down in game 5, that means Colorado goes into the WS with a lot more momentum then when they had to wait over a week to play Boston.
lololol no they werent first off they lost so there's that Second The indians had the same amount of wins in regular season that year as the red sox third, all but one of the games the Indians won were close, game 2 went to extra innings finally the last 3 games boston scored 30 runs to Clevelands 5 making the the total composite line Red Sox: 51 runs Indians: 32 Id say its more accurate to state the Indians got lucky they even got that far.
Hellfire1535 With the moves the Red Sox made this off season they definitely improved. However I see them finishing at .500 by the end of the season. They have a very mediocre starting rotation, Clay Buccholz is a joke and unreliable, Koji collapsed at the end of the season last year yet the Sox resigned him, and the Sox still lack an ace. The only thing that they have going for them is the offense improved and the bullpen has some depth. This is a recipe for a 81-81 or 82-80 finish. I seem them in 3rd place in the AL East in 2015. If they are lucky to make the playoffs they won't make it passed the wild card round. Unless they can get that ace then I see them in a better position.
