My dear husband left me with every tool a person could want and now I am learning to use them. Today I am fixing my washing machine and needed to hold a part tighter than these OLD hands can grip. Thank you for the tutorial!!!
very useful video. I knew generally how vicegrips worked but they never seemed to do what i wanted them too. this video clears up a lot of head-scratchers for me
They are superb for holding something for soldering, or small welding. They are also really good when something is too small for a metal vice. Too many people use then for undoing bolts, which mess up the thread on the nut and bolt and rips out the grip in the locking pliers.
This was so helpful. I especially appreciated your showing, unmistakably, which way is clockwise. I never knew how to use vise grips. Now I do. Thanks!
Really informative. I thought it was used to dismantle bath taps and nuts. I tried this and cocked up my bath tap. Do I use the mole to grip and then use a spanner to dismantle the collar nut on the tap?
So my grandpa was "teaching" me how to change oil on a mower and we had to use a vice grip cause it appeared that someone had used them before and destroyed the nut so a normal crescent wrench or socket wouldn't work. Having never even heard of vice grips let alone seen them used, I was trying in vain to use them while he watched. Then being the a-hole that he is, said "well, maybe it isn't a girl's tool". Then he showed me how it works. Thanks for the video. They seem very simple to use upon seeing your video and although I do feel dumb for not figuring it out, I can tell I could have figured it out if he had at least shown me once how they work.
It always frustrates me when i hear this type of thing ; if you hadn't been shown how to use the tool , how could you know ?! Don't feel dumb - you're grandfather should have taken the time to demonstrate how to use vice grips . I worked in a garage as a teenager with cranky old guys, but they always showed us how to use the tools . If we kept asking the same question - then we were in trouble ! Good for you for figuring them out - vice grips are handy tools ; just as effective if a girl is using them as a guy :)
Lol your grandpa seems cool af. You're lucky to have him working with you on outdoor stuff like that. You're gonna miss these times when he's gone. Stop complaining.
Had to educate myself after I tried holding onto hot metal with a vise grip. Didn’t have a good enough grip and dropped it right onto my welding instructors desk. I felt so bad.
THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL i HAVE THIS TOOL AND DID NOT KNOW ABOUT ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO USE IT. MINE IF RUSTY LIKE YOURS. i USED WD40 TO GET THE RUST OFF. THIS IS GREAT FOR MY OBJECT LESSON ON PRIDE THE GREAT VICE. THANKS ALOT.
+Hanks a skitzo Yeah, the socket is the part that goes over the nut, the ratchet means there is a gear in the wrench that lets it turn the nut one direction but not the other.
Completely unhelpful. I'm not trying to grip a shank or get a lesson on sockets. Trying to get a screw out that is inside the bathroom vanity, I think it's the one that's screwed into the stud. The screw has the smallest 1" insert bit, couldn't be a phillips or slotted head, it takes a special square head. But it's so small that the bit doesn't sit in there far enough so I can get some torque and wrench it out or pray it out. I'm 70 yrs old and God is my helper. Whenever I can't do something by myself, I stop and pray and usually I succeed on the next attempt. I just really wanted to know how to get a nice grip on the screw head and twist it out that way. Even if I twisted the screw head off, at least then I could just pull the vanity away from the wall. Not trying to save the vanity. But can't take a sledge to it, it's still attached via the plumbing. Plumber comes tomorrow, maybe he will help if I can't get her done. Thanks anyway.
Well , if what you said is true all you had to do was pray that you could get the screw out and God would have hooked you up and took care of it for you on your next try. 😂

Excellent video. I have had a set of these in my shed for years and never new how to use them.
Men like you are the real heroes of this world.

This was so helpful. I had this tool for years and didn't know what it was. I thought it was a really bad pliers, lol!

holy shit, how stupid are you?
@@spamcan9208 sorry everyone is not as smart as you
@@spamcan9208 well you’re watching the video too...
@@davidescobar9455 blame the UA-cam algorithm lol. The real problem is I made that comment 5 years ago and I'm freaked out at how time flies by.
Just found a mole grip in my Grandad's old tool box he left me - really helpful in figuring out how to use this beautiful heirloom! Cheers guy!
Thanks for the information. That's what was missing from my home tool box. Your information makes an easy job, that had become hard, easy.

Good idea mentioning when not to use it as well. Thanks for the video!
Great tip for getting more grip at the second part of video with that drill bit. Didnt know that.
Thank you!
No problem Jw - thanks for commenting
Thanks very much for the video. Thanks also for solving the mystery of properly using the wise grip pliers after all these years!!!
akbaxb165 Glad i could help solve the mystery Akbax !
My left ear enjoyed this video 👍
My left ear loved this video
Was your right ear feeling a bit excluded?
I didn't really know how to use vice grips until now so thanks a lot!
Liked and subscribed!
+Tayla Burgess And thank you for liking & subscribing Tayla !
I have used vice grips multiple times to remove stripped screws and bolts. Every toolbox needs a pair of these.
Thank you for posting. I had no clue what these were.
I need to practice using these.
GREAT VIDEO ..!! THANKS SO MUCH !!!

Very Informative
I have a vice grip and the middle connector has come out of the groove so they do not work, how do I put it back in place?
I'm curious; why you didn't demonstrate the wire cutting ability of the tool. At the back of rhe jaw opening is a wire cutting pounr & anvil.
Hi , my straight jaw bolt is hard to rotate , can i do something to solve this ?
good hood strut stops lol
How about showing locking them on the bolt?
I jsut found this strange tool in the toolbox and thanks to your tutorial fixed the shower in about 3 minutes! Thank you!
I have a bunch of these
For easy movement, you should use WD-40.
really helpful now i know how to tote a glock
Is the socket you used around 5:20 also known as a ratchet?

the grips on the table
