How To Lock Vise Grips

Three main components of Vise Grips
Jaws/Pliers
Locking Bolt
Lever
I'll show three examples of how you could use vise grips. Example number 1, locking to a medium thickness object (eg. wrench). A very tight lock. If the locking Pliers doesn’t lock! When jaws/pliers gap is much smaller than the thickness of the object (eg. wrench). Step 1 - Put the Lock Vise in the closed position. Rotate the locking bolt in the anti-clockwise direction to widen the gap. Close the Vise Grip on the object. Use the locking bolt to tighten the jaws to the same thickness as of the object. Remove the Vice Grip from the object. Close it. Tighten it a bit further by rotating the bolt clockwise. Press the back end of the handle to lock the pliers. This is an example of a very tight grip. The gap between the jaws is a bit too tight but not so tight that it won't lock. Pay attention to the sound when it's locked! It's impressively tight grip!
Push the lever towards the handle to unlock the lock! When lock is very tight, you'd need to push the lever very hard. So, it's better to avoid very tight locks! Warning - If you make the lock too tight you could damage the tool. The jaws are very sharp, and can pierce and scratch the object.
Example number 2, locking a very thin object (eg. Scrapper). In the closed position, the gap between jaws are too wide.
Example, number 3, locking a thick round object (eg. hammer head). How to use the concave part of the pliers. Front end of the jaws are flat and back end are concave.
Summary
1) If the gap between the jaws are much smaller than the thickness of the object then no matter how much you press, you won't be able to lock.
2) The trick is to have the gap slightly smaller than the thickness of the object.
3) If the gap is bigger than the thickness of the object, then the grip would be loose.

Thank you for sharing the 'secret' I am petite & have no strength in my hands or arms, vice grips & leverage are my friends. I only wish in repayment I could teach you to pronounce V's. But I have the same problem with rolling R's in Spanish, so I guess we're both 'stuck' on those, hehe.
