- SOCIAL DISTORTION The Making of Another State Of Mind
Mike Ness back in 1982 explaining the process of the writing of "Another State of Mind. Added on to this is a Clip of Social D playing the song at a practice session filmed in 1983.
The fact that they caught THIS on tape and it SURVIVED…..just f-ing brilliant
F ya Oh my god so dope!
I have the dvd this if from, its called Another State of Mind. features Youth Brigade Minor Threat and of course Social Distortion. might be on UA-cam lol.
Lot of this film was staged…this was revealed later. Not an authentic documentary.

Obviously when somebody turns a camera on they’re gonna preform otherwise it would be a film of them sitting there scratching they’re balls
One of the most underrated films in music history
Mommy’s Little Monster was my high school soundtrack in the 80’s.
So underrated, these guys are as good as it gets,
Capturing the creative process is amazing. I absolutely love this.
Little gold nuggets like this is what makes youtube so priceless
Mike at 18 -20 yrs old is so awesome to see. Dude is a legend .
This kid sounds just like Mike Ness!
Some of the greats say that they feel like the music is being channeled through them, that sometimes they don’t know where the music comes from. Some people are just born to be a Rockstar a musical pioneer paving the way and inspiring generations to come. Sure am glad the stars aligned for this boy, thanks Mike Ness for all the memories through your music that I cherish through my own life experiences. 🇺🇸🎸🇺🇸
One of the greatest Rock N Roll films ever made ....
caugth this film when I was 12 and never looked back 47 now, punk rock for life!
Green day had a protocea.
Thats actual guitar on cover of mainliner unbelievable
best documentary ever, reality is stronger than fiction
Mikes eye makeup should have its own UA-cam channel!
Do you know where I can find Hunter? He got me knocked up and won't acknowledge his baby
Watched this many times yrs ago gotta checheck it out again good memories
This acoustic jam was stuck in my head and I was revoking my brains trying to figure it out...
Social D is another band that should get nominated for the Rap and Roll Hall of Fame!
Rap and Roll?
@@offspringfan1288 He must be in drugs.
hhahaha. I get the joke. :)
Im feeling old watching this!
Reminds me of the time back in the 80's when I worked the door at the Collins Hotel and a "New Wave" band played called Slick. The sound was very similar to you guys but they did a lot of tribute stuff like Billy Idol, Clash, etc. I'm impressed you guys were writing your own material. Skål man!
2:43 2:47, You can tell by how he is looking Brent wanted to go home. RIP BUDDY, even though I never met you, and thanks to the entire band for the Another State Of Mind Album.
Amazing vid, thanks for posting it. Saw SD in Toronto @ Kool Haus last year. It was my first concert ( seeing them ).......just bloody awesome! Only wish that they did more Canadian tours because there is more Mike Ness / SD fans than they are aware of.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts sticker right there, because she was such an inspiration and songwriting powerhouse. Mike Ness is plugged in to rockn’roll that matters at this point. Mommy’s Little Monster was a brilliant rockn’roll/punk record more than an HC record. Set them apart from the other HC bands on the tour.
What songs did she write?
@@readyupad
She wrote Bad Reputation and a number of other songs, but most of her hits are covers. Joan rocks and I like her music, but actual song writing isn't really what she's known for.
I'm surprised they got all of this on video. But it's cool to have nonetheless. The time will come soon enough when there's no one left to perform this music or remember it. Damn I'm getting old!
This is an incredible video thank you for uploading! The first SG we see Mike using is awesome I wish he used that more frequently love the contrast between the amplified distortion sound and the accoustic from being so close. Excellent!
Yeah like he wasn’t being himself stoopid people nowadays think everything is for a reason
That is some early rocking! Nice.
Holy crap Mike was young here!!!!
Yeah probably 20
WOW..to see that progression,.......
Thanks for posting this......no one ever thinks of Ness starting in a garage, but I guess he did! AWESOME
I knew I was there when they played small gigs and were good but now....
Most bands start in a garage.
Well technically he started on a front porch.
😂😂🤣🤣
i can see his tattoos even if they are not there yet
dont mess with Mike Ness..
On the plane ride home mike Ness met the late great Ali.
Rip Dennis
God bless Social D!!!
The loyalty never ends with Nessy.
Love This!!
This is great.
That white SG custom!😍😍😍
Great Band 👌👍
Fuck ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!tears in her eyes!!!!
3:16 A lot of people with inner demons have a similar handwriting. Jagged and uneven...
baby mike !
1:19 Dennis Danell - RIP
Dizzy D!! Respect.
yeah. Brent Liles wrote the Soc. D song, MASS HYSTERIA and the music and lyrics for ALL THE ANSWERS and co-wrote MORAL THREAT so he did a lot more for Soc. D than most members of the band
History in the making@!
brilliant
I love this video lol. It's interesting to see the creation process. Is it just me, or does it sound better here than in the actual record version?
oops :) Still, it applies to so many other ppl who I know: sometimes you see friends of someone famous who was always hanging out with them, and that was when they were just an unknown garage band...
He's too sweet!
1982 when mike ness still young
GENIUS at WORK
Another State of Mind it's my all time favorite Punk Rock song along American Idiot by Green Day and Streets by Avenged Sevenfold
I was in middle school in 1982. When I think how young we were I just laugh because I have white hair now. At 44 I am not getting any younger. Ha ha.
wow 44 8 years ago and i'm 44 now. amazing.
sick boys hot!
ahhaha, THIS IS PURE GOLD!
Manso aguante el batero haciendo los coros
this leaves me HoT &bOtHeRed everytime!
Mike ness was 20 years old back in 1982 then he was 21 years old back in 1983
Rockers Topic and then he was 22 in 1984
I heard he was twenty-three in 85 and listen to this...
he was 33 in 95
@@GreenCanvasInteriorscape yeah he was getting old for now
@knowshondas you listen to SNFU??
I know the feeling, Ness and his booking agents seem to think that London is the whole of the UK (thats when they can be bothered crossing the Atlantic)
sooooo damn cute
pure punk, before there were rockabilly elements
Rad!
fast 40 Jahre 👀📺her 👍
Kaum zu glauben, oder ?👋🍀
Is that Jerry Only on his shirt??
Yes it was a Jery Only t-shirt, one that definately never made it to my 'Fits' collection mostly b/c it must have been one of the first t-shirts
that the Fiend Club put out which was started & ran out of Glenn's bedroom before they decided to upscale b/c of the growing fanbase!!
I am gonna be 50 here in a few months & have been a die-hard Misfits fan & Glenn was one of my most influential icons in my life &
growing up a Punk Rocker here in the Midwest. I have been buying & now selling Misfits items for over 30 years now. I don't wanna get
into it here, so all I will say about how I feel about Jerry Only now? Give it up Jerry. It's time to hang up your Cyclopean Bass & say goodnight
for the final time. Turn off the lights , the party's over. You are not the MIsfits. You did not make or establish the Misfits. Glenn did. Give him
the respect he deserves. Thank him. Shower him with gifts of money that you have been stealing from him. Glenn is your daddy & you will
always be the boy. But now the time has come to say goodnight Jerry. B/c you're too old to take this MIsfits THing anywhere constructive
without Glenn leading you. Now it's time to be a man Jerry. Say good fucking night already.
Ok, so i did get into it here a little bit!! lol. It's hard for me not too. I can't even imagine how fustrated & angry, not tot mention feeling
betrayed & mocked by his former Bass player must feel. Glenn, wherever you are right now... you are THEMAN!!
I do my hair just like mikes :D
how do you know this?
What year is this
!982.
so where is the les paul that gibson is milking so hard?
manliner never sounded so good
The nihilism is strong.
Chu désolé........il me reste beaucoup de chemin à faire...........high 5 to those who understand..........

haha I feel sorry for the 3rd kid in the back who's like, "I don't feel like learning to play an instrument & go on tour to get girls or try to join Mike Ness's band so I can become a multi-millionaire & have a huge car collection, without even working hard." :-)
I'd be kicking myself a decade later if I grew up knowing all of the right people like Mike Ness & was just too much of an ass-scratcher to bother learning even how to do something FUN like playing music with him. haha sucky but true.
I'm pretty sure the guy your talking about was the bass player who in my opinion was the better musician of the band.
Agreed and they weren't offering millions to punk rock bands in those days so that kid probably ended up ok not to mention mike going to prison for a few years
Angry young man!
Is that Chuckie Biscuits on the couch??
Thats Casey Royer, Chuck i think was in Black Flag at this time..
It was neither chuck or casey.
sorry to break it to you but this whole process is faked the song was already put out by the time the movie came out. and if you ever watch the youth brigade documentary (let them know) it explains that this part of the movie is actually faked
nardcore23 Lol it was so cool...
Not as fake as many shows we see today
So what
obviously not his greatest song but you have to start somewhere
Mommy's little monster and 1945 are greatest albums/ep these guys did before mike went to prison , after which the music became less punk and appealed to more people, I'm old and set in my ways
@@a.fritoaxecheeto6052 no argument there. But they had better songs than this one. It's not bad but it's not great
Glad my parents forced social d and many og punk bands from the cbgb days on me most kids my age just listen to bullshit rap haha
All of my 4 kids like music, but none of them like rock, it's odd
They wince when I turn up what I like to listen to
If you don't that face playing guitar. You don't play guitar
Shitty musicians but so cool and badass
Early Social Distortion was honestly pretty great. They wrote some good songs.
No thumbs up in six years, you're wrong
Shitty? Well they out there living life before cell phones and Twitter and music editors on computers , 1982, touring US, music is epic when it evolves like this and 40 years later and still getting comments
This is so stupid , why acustic why why !
Dude if you're going to make a statement like that, spell acoustic correct.
Yeah, because they should be plugged into a 100 watt Marshall through 4 full stacks on the tour bus. Idiot.
