There's also this myth that people that work out are super motivated all the time or that the motivation itself is this intense burning desire. Sometimes it's that, most of the time (for me at least) it's like brushing your teeth. I know I should do it, I know it's benefits. I don't always feel like doing it or am excited to but I do it anyway (90% of the time). Showing up is really the hardest part. As for the science of the benefits a 10 minute google and reading session will fill you in on the broad spectrum of positives. If you can't even be bothered doing that than you don't really want to improve. Don't wait for some stranger on the internet, talking to himself in front of a camera dictate the direction or success of your goals.
It's been 4 months since my girlfriend of 4 years left me. And I've found it hard to let go despite knowing it's for the best. With that said, my question would be, how do you successfully move on from a relationship and grow as a person?
Rule #1 - Do not think of the good times. There will be reasons why the relationship didn't work. Think of the reasons why it didn't work out, take experience from that, hold yourself accountable for your own wrongdoings in the relationship, and work to improve on said wrongdoings so you don't repeat the same mistakes in future relationships. Focus on what you enjoy. Throw yourself into your hobbies if you need to. Throw yourself into your work. Throw yourself into yourself, for lack of a better term. But by all means, don't throw yourself into another relationship without first working on your flaws.
**Question** How to help a friend who can't help themselves. They always blames others or childhood trauma(valid but it did happened years ago) for all there problems. How can i make them able to help them out the whole they've dug themselves in.
Simple answer: you cannot help someone who does not want to help themselves. they are a negative whirlpool swallowing all your empathy and positive energy. Or like a fellow climber who has fallen off the mountain, pulling you with them. you must cut the cord and save yourself.
"Complaining doesn't fix problems, fixing them does. What are you doing to fix it?" Sounds obvious but took me a bit to realise. Bit of a maturity thing really.
Hello Mr Shanks, I was wondering if you take any medication and if you have any caffeinated beverages on a regular basis? As I admire your energy and focus with the flow of conversation in your videos.
Definitely a lot like Jordan in the sense I'm probably more feminine than masculine but I'm also masculine. Pretty indecisive but I could attribute that to my ability to want to know as much as I can about the options open to me before making the decision
Jordiz, this should be a pretty comfortable one for you to answer. How do you avoid getting FOMO, not on simple things like not being invited to a party, for example, but fear of missing out on advancing in life. An example of this is me being an only child, I feel I’ve missed out on a lot of social skills by not having someone a similar age being constantly around me. This can basically be attributed to everyone at any point in life
Finally someone said it. Feel like I've been playing catch-up in terms of socail skills my entire life with people with siblings, and from experience other only-children are way more likely to be less socially adept. Less bad now I'm a) an adult and b) working on myself but still, feels like a shame.
Hey! Loved the info in the video but after watching the whole thing and listening to all the “features” of the four brain chemistries I’ve realised that I occupy a significant amount of all but “dopamine” and relate thoroughly to testosterone, oestrogen and serotonin. What kind of person should I be looking for now??
yo drop more of ur skincare secrets bc i tried the mask thing from the korean video but idk if i did it right lol, more detail would be 👌🏽 thx jordies u legend
Idk if this will help you, but if you like to have hot showers (hot water is bad for your skin) always moisturize after. It's made a huge difference for me.
Would love to see you go more over personality types (MBTI stuff). It has been really beneficial for me to understand factors about my personality type and has been a huge weight off my shoulders to learn that some of the things I and feel are normal for my personality type. Would love to know your opinions and thoughts.
Getting sucked into personality types is like getting sucked into horoscopes, fortune telling, or religion. It can be used to find some idea of self-reflection, but ultimately it's about validation. It's probably not the personality types content itself that is useful, but the feeling of validation that you receive from the experience. So what you did to start finding answers for yourself in personality type content was probably the most important step, which was finally grasping that dissatisfaction, looking online for answers, then eventually stumbling onto the content that happened to scratch the itch. I see your comment is from 3 years ago. I hope you're doing alright.
how can i determine which of the four i would fit into so i can then use that to my advantage, i honestly feel a bit of all of them, not so much the dopamine but yeah a little bit. is there like a check list or something for each of the four and then which ever of the four has more boxes ticked is the winner. make a check list!!!
It's bullshit and they're all applicable to everyone. There is basically no scientific backing to Helen Fisher's test either. Just as the Myer-Briggs PT has been debunked.
I'm very clearly a negotiator, but I do not fit well in to the serotonin or dopamine categories you have described. I've very go with the flow, not a planner, I've always been complemented for my creativity, strict guide line will be the end of me, I like to experiment and try new things but it's mostly mentally. I have anxiety and would be the last in person in the world to jump off a cliff. I'm nervous but also very layed back, it's kinda weird, especially cause normally psychologist think anxiety is all about control and the therapies they use are to help people be less controlling. Basically if the dopamine people were a litter of hyped up puppies I'd be that one puppy that's always sleeping and who's little legs shake when they walk. So I'm a runt I guess? You could also say I'm a little more balanced.
You mentioned in one of your videos, that video games are fucked for guys as far as how alluring is. I think im a director guy and all my time is wasted on these things. Can you do a video where you go into more detail about it?
Assuming this is still an issue for you, google “get out of your mind and into you life”. Very helpful book. If I had to guess video games are a type of avoidance behaviour. Also google experiential avoidance.
UHHHHHHH, OKAY ANOTHER QUESTION Self help talks a lot about giving and receiving to find fulfillment in your life. But what bugs me is people can be greedy, selfish, self centered, you know what people are like... I get how giving, like charity work can give someone meaning, fulfillment, perhaps a scene of responsibility. I never really understood this. Tony Robins mentioned giving back a fair amount but I wonder what can you receive in return by being generous in a dog eat dog world. And you could argue that being apart of something bigger than yourself in a virtue. Yet if you are aware of this couldn't you change your mindset. Wouldn't it be better to just take responsibility of the things your in control of, instead of trying to change the world like a lot of people my age wish to do.
Hey jordies, could you give a summary on Tony Robbins 6 NAC master steps for change? Id love for my girlfriend and family to read at least that chapter, but I feel a video would be better suited for them cuz I know they won't read it unless I sit down with them and force them to
The first two are hormones. The second two are neurotransmitters. Being high in one is not mutually exclusive with another. Also, the neurotransmitters tend to be released immediately in response to stimuli and they are addictive, so you can become high in them through your actions. The hormones? It's more complex.
Jerry Seinfeld Voice, "What's the deal with young people using and adapting to stock personalities?" Which is totally a phrase I made up. But what I mean by 'stock personalities' is these white girls who talk about how they love doggos, or currently, a personality around the house plant trend. Their lack of a personality forces them to try use a ready-made personality. So yeah... why? They mildly irritate me and a better understanding may cease that. Also, thanks for signing a photo of my girlfriend's cat when you were in Adelaide.
It seems increasingly like every one of these four traits is vaguely applicable to everyone. Barnum statement I think it's called. I'm calling bullshit.
What's the best way to solve someones problem/issue/weakness and grow as an individual? Challenge them from your viewpoint or relate to 'what you think' is their viewpoint/situation?
It's an interesting idea, I think that people can be part of more than one of these groups at a time, though. From your description, I'm a combination of the estrogen/dopamine brains.
Question for Jordan: Sorry this is a long question but I really struggle with relationships and I would like to get better at them (and by struggle, he means he doesn't ask people out because he'd rather be close friends with them first so he can make an informed opinion as to whether or not he should date them, but if he chooses yes its too late cause he just put himself in the friendzone). I find this very interesting. It feels like a simplification of the 5 personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and Neuroticism), or the MBTI 16 personality types. Its also probably because I spend so much time thinking about and researching this topic that I struggle to fit into these 4 types of people. Now I could be wrong, but the way I understood this was that there are 4 types of people, each with two of these traits e.g. testosterone with dopamine. If this is the case my first thought from what you described is that I am testosterone and dopamine, testosterone because I am very poor at socialising, I hate chit chat, I only really want to talk about my interests, or put up with talking about my very close friends interests cause I like them and I dont find many people I like. I also think I'm dopamine because I am highly creative, and while like a testosterone I only care about my interests, I can just focus on one, my whole life I've been pretty good at most interests I've tried, and I've spent so much time learning and focusing on all of them at once, which I've always found easy to do as it stops me from being bored. However, I can't be a testosterone because I'm terrible at making decisions, I absolutely hate it. I hate menus too. This one time I was out with two friends. The first dropped me home with the other, and when we got to my place he said he was coming in for a chat. He then asked the second friend if she wanted to do the same or stay in the car. She said that it was up to me. I said that I was quite happy for her to come in, but I wouldnt mind if she didnt either - it was up to her, as i didnt want her to feel forced into anything. This led to a legit half an hour argument at the front of my house in this car where she keeps saying NO JUST TELL ME WHAT TO DO and I keep refusing cause i hate telling people what to do, probably because I despise being told what to do. Now that I think about it, you could chalk this up to my dopamine side playing against the testosterone, as dopamine people seem to also struggle to focus on one thing, and by extension might not be good at making decisions - like me. However, the trouble with calling me a dopamine is that while i know i am one (because its the trait i am most similar to with my creativness and the spontaneous way i tend to live (i hate plans), I am ironically not a very happy person. Now, thats not really a fair assesment - i have bi polar, so perhaps if I didnt have bi polar i would tend to be a more happy excited person like you described (I know i tend to be more like his when im in my highs). However, I'll never be as social as what you described the dopamine to be, but again this is probably just my introverted testosterone side which only cares about the topics im interested in conflicting with my dopamine side. Idk, I think I've now satisfactorily resolved the issues I had with this formula of sorts for understanding people, but I'd like to here what you think Jordan, as you are probably far more well versed in this topic than I am! Edit: Well shit I just actually finished the video and my whole understanding of this system has been thrown away because the presumption i made that you have to be two of the personality types is wrong. Jordan just said you have to choose one. Fuck. Now I really need help, if Jordan or anyone else can explain to me which type I am that would really help thankyou.
I have a question! How do you sand up for yourself in a work environment when you feel like you're being taken advantage of? As someone with confidence and self esteem issues I struggle with this kind of thing and could use some pointers pls thank
Jordan I think I am a seratonin person but I also have depression, or maybe an estrogen person; but I have a strong jaw and autistic obsessiveness. Help
Idk about the whole "A kind people end up with A kind people, B kind end up with B kind etc" My partner and I are a bit different. My ex and I were the same. I'm in a much better and healthier relationship now. We have our own things and we have our together things. 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe that's just me.
QUESTION QUESTION How can one escape the 9-5 grind I think the major root of unhappiness in our society is the fact that our lives are determined by others(bosses) leaving us in a constant state of worry due to the uncertainty of our own lives. So what can a person do to feel more in control of their own lives and to stop being dependent on people who only view them as cattle or bees. Joe Rogan mentioned that we cant contribute to society so our only option is to work for it. Then goes on about how we become so drained that we cant formulate our own opinions so we turn to media who constantly drills what they want you to believe into our minds blah blah blah you know how it is. So how would you go about pursuing happiness when most people don't even know what truly makes them happy. I think there lies the root of people not having goals in the first place. Because they don't know themselves hence they don't know what they want to achieve. My opinion though. What you think?
How does your neurochemical relationship advice apply to people who are polyamorous? Does that mean a dopamine person is likely to pair up with multiple dopamine people, or just one of each type like a cadbury favourites box?
It would be great to see a video on your perspective about the explosion of private education companies that have emerged due to the deregulation and unregulated (thanks ASQA) of the Australian education system. that provide uselessly certificates. As it would provide a useful warning tool to prevent people from entering dodgy dept contracts where money is a first and the education service is second. Turns out I'm dopamine, soo
So I did the test on the site and I got; Your score on the Explorer scale is 27 out of a possible 42, or 64%. Your score on the Builder scale is 19 out of a possible 42, or 45%. Your score on the Director scale is 28 out of a possible 42, or 67%. Your score on the Negotiator scale is 23 out of a possible 42, or 55% The URL literally called me a tie breaker. dafuq?!
Although she's not got one tenth the presentation skills of Prof Shanksie here - and he puts the point at 1:20 particularly well - here's Helen Fisher on _her_ four personality types _in men_ ua-cam.com/video/3a2PvlD-O9Q/v-deo.html - while here is Alain de Botton's rather longer analysis of long-term relationships ua-cam.com/video/v-iUHlVazKk/v-deo.html
so i googled my way to this lady : reason.com/video/helen-fisher-neurochemistry-libertarian/ ... did her perosnality test and here is my answer below :::: NEGOTIATORS are philosophers. These women (and men) express traits linked with the estrogen system in the brain. These people see the big picture. They are imaginative and intuitive. They have superb language and people skills. They are also emotionally expressive, as well as agreeable, trusting and compassionate. Negotiators seek someone with whom they can make an intensely intimate, deeply meaningful, inspiring and spiritual connection. But Negotiators, like Directors, prefer to go out with one person at a time and to explore the depths of this potential partnership. They dislike wasting time on irrelevant, trivial or boring socializing. When they find “The One,” Negotiators are superb at generating and maintaining intimacy with this partner. They avoid conflicts with a mate, and make major personal adjustments to strengthen this cherished bond. They give thoughtful gifts, such as a treasured book or photograph. They share their most personal feelings. And they want their partner to share his or her feelings too. LOL how flattering. i have a question : whats the deal with personality tests?
Do you have any advice for making major life decisions? I'm pretty sure my brain is higher in oestrogen because i'm an indecisive bastard. So these critical life decisions tend to make me highly stressed.
What if you're a bipolar estrogen brained male who Is also prone to impulsive behaviour like drug taking but you are physically high in testosterone because you inject it exogenously? Asking for a friend...
With the dopamine one I imagine everyone who watched this just had someone immediately pop into their head as soon as he started describing that person and if they didn't they are that person
Jordan, this is a serious question - regarding the testosterone brain, are you saying men are smarter than women in general, and that men have greater potential to be smarter? I'm not here to do a gotcha thing with sexism, I'm genuinely curious. Because I didn't think that was the case. I'm aware of, for example, Jordan Peterson's explanations on the general differences in men and women, and I'm not some twitter junkee hack incel/radical feminist who ignores science. So - is that the case?
Now I can't tell if I'm a testosterone brain, dopamine brain or estrogen brain. I like being social, but I'm also very decisive and take charge pretty often. Also since I started taking medication for my ADHD, I've been a lot more focussed on learning things like a testosterone brain (but I always learn different things day to day, not really one or two things that I'm focussed on, I have so many hobbies that none of them really count as a hobby). I'm mostly creative, very impulsive, and have an addictive personality (maybe just the adhd?), so it makes sense that I'd be a dopamine brain, but I'm also a clinically depressed pos so I'm clearly not high in dopamine or serotonin. Do I go against the trend or is this stuff just bs?
I feel like im a mix of the first 3; I can pretty decisive and take charge, but I love understanding people and those social interactions (but I kinda hate people most of the time) and I’m a creative (at least I feel like I am) since I’m trying to become a fashion designer. Out of /10, how fucked am I?
Yeah, testosterone and estrogen are homones, dopamine and serotonin are neurotransmitters. There are heaps of neurotransmitters we don't even understand. Hormones and neurotransmitters are effected by inflammation, gut bacterial, childhood programming, nutrition, activity level, epigenetics and even BMi. Its just not as simple as you are portraying it.
What do you do when your work financially supports you, your goals and family but morally you're conflicted because you know your company is questionable (mining industry)
I feel like I'm both explorer and negotiator or maybe im just a negotiator that wants to be an explorer :( oh wait im even coming up with a bunch of alternative options in my head just like a negotiator my face IS pretty fuckin round tho
Uh. So I don't know what I am cos I have chronic anxiety and depression and relationship trauma 😆. Oh and possibly ADHD/ADD. So all hormones out of whack. I have aspects of all of these but no fun
Jordan, do you read Mark Manson? Make another video about self-love. If you don't love or accept yourself you will never do any of the things self-help recommends. It's fundamental to improving yourself. It needs to come first.
Browse some books at a shop if there's one near you. I generally ignore the blurb on the back and just read a page 1/3 the way in; if they can't grab you in a few paragraphs, grab another book. Or finding a good book group can help.
Why do some guys find basic girls attractive? I’m talking about the ones with seemingly no knowledge of politics or social issues, unintelligent and blindly following trends.
Maybe they don't want to have to argue about stuff in personal time, just get on with day-to-day stuff. Maybe they're scared of arguing about stuff. Maybe they like to feel intellectually superior. Maybe they think that's how women should be. Maybe they like being able to play around behind their girlfriend's back. Maybe they're marking time and expect to go looking for someone more driven/smarter later in life.

High in oestrogen

Any tips for not emailing your ex who you were with for 13 years?
You're. Not. Gonna. Stop. Me. From. Learning. About. AAANTS!
Jordies wtf you're bonkers 10/10.
Can a relationship be fixed / still work if a partner cheats?
I have a question! How do you sand up for yourself in a work environment when you feel like you're being taken advantage of? As someone with confidence and self esteem issues I struggle with this kind of thing and could use some pointers pls thank
people high on dopamine: "i don't have any friends...yeah i drove off a cliff! what a good life!!"
came here to laugh but shit this was actually a really good video, gotta ask tho, do u film these high or sumthing?
Ya boi spittin that spice
How do you explain someone who sits in between Estrogen and Serotonin?
Jordan I think I am a seratonin person but I also have depression, or maybe an estrogen person; but I have a strong jaw and autistic obsessiveness. Help
Idk about the whole "A kind people end up with A kind people, B kind end up with B kind etc"
My partner and I are a bit different. My ex and I were the same. I'm in a much better and healthier relationship now. We have our own things and we have our together things. 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe that's just me.
QUESTION QUESTION
How can one escape the 9-5 grind
I think the major root of unhappiness in our society is the fact that our lives are determined by others(bosses) leaving us in a constant state of worry due to the uncertainty of our own lives.
Does that mean a dopamine person is likely to pair up with multiple dopamine people, or just one of each type like a cadbury favourites box?
as a polyam person, i reckon a variety would be preferable since everyone involved would (hopefully) balance and bring out the best in each other
can you change what type you are?
Please drop a reading list!
Oi, where do I find the podcast
It would be great to see a video on your perspective about the explosion of private education companies that have emerged due to the deregulation and unregulated (thanks ASQA) of the Australian education system. that provide uselessly certificates. As it would provide a useful warning tool to prevent people from entering dodgy dept contracts where money is a first and the education service is second.
Turns out I'm dopamine, soo
So I did the test on the site and I got;
Your score on the Explorer scale is 27 out of a possible 42, or 64%.
Your score on the Builder scale is 19 out of a possible 42, or 45%.
Your score on the Director scale is 28 out of a possible 42, or 67%.
Your score on the Negotiator scale is 23 out of a possible 42, or 55%
The URL literally called me a tie breaker. dafuq?!
Although she's not got one tenth the presentation skills of Prof Shanksie here - and he puts the point at 1:20 particularly well - here's Helen Fisher on _her_ four personality types _in men_ ua-cam.com/video/3a2PvlD-O9Q/v-deo.html - while here is Alain de Botton's rather longer analysis of long-term relationships ua-cam.com/video/v-iUHlVazKk/v-deo.html
surely if you are high in any of these things, there are physical side effects ... more so than personality traits ... links?
so i googled my way to this lady :
reason.com/video/helen-fisher-neurochemistry-libertarian/
... did her perosnality test and here is my answer below ::::
NEGOTIATORS are philosophers.
"Don't look at blue screens anwhere close to bedtime" *uploads content for us all right before bedtime...
bedtime
Do you have any advice for making major life decisions? I'm pretty sure my brain is higher in oestrogen because i'm an indecisive bastard. So these critical life decisions tend to make me highly stressed.
How do you deal with dating a co-worker?
What if you're a bipolar estrogen brained male who Is also prone to impulsive behaviour like drug taking but you are physically high in testosterone because you inject it exogenously?
Asking for a friend...
You really got the dopamine high people to a t, never had myself explained better
With the dopamine one I imagine everyone who watched this just had someone immediately pop into their head as soon as he started describing that person and if they didn't they are that person
There is definitely more to know about the psilocybin mushroom
What degree/s should people look at?
I must have a mad imbalance. There must be something I can do to address that.
you’re like my youtube mum
Jordan, this is a serious question - regarding the testosterone brain, are you saying men are smarter than women in general, and that men have greater potential to be smarter?
I'm not here to do a gotcha thing with sexism, I'm genuinely curious. Because I didn't think that was the case. I'm aware of, for example, Jordan Peterson's explanations on the general differences in men and women, and I'm not some twitter junkee hack incel/radical feminist who ignores science.
So - is that the case?
I love your content
I feel like im a mix of the first 3;
I can pretty decisive and take charge, but I love understanding people and those social interactions (but I kinda hate people most of the time) and I’m a creative (at least I feel like I am) since I’m trying to become a fashion designer.
People high in serotonin are builders... good luck millennials
I feel like I'm both explorer and negotiator
or maybe im just a negotiator that wants to be an explorer :(
oh wait im even coming up with a bunch of alternative options in my head just like a negotiator
my face IS pretty fuckin round tho
human body and spirit?/ayahuasca/drug-war/addiction
Key pointers.
Your impersonations are so funny.
Are you a chaos magician?
This semi blows my mind Ngl kinda realised I'm fucked tho 😂😂
Interesting vid mate.
looking that good how could you be sad
how can you encourage yourself to start reading, instead of watching movies or playing video games
Go to a library where there is a cute librarian and show off by borrowing a book and actually read it so you can discuss it with him/her
Browse some books at a shop if there's one near you.
I'm no expert but i assume they are basic guys?
Maybe they don't want to have to argue about stuff in personal time, just get on with day-to-day stuff. Maybe they're scared of arguing about stuff. Maybe they like to feel intellectually superior. Maybe they think that's how women should be. Maybe they like being able to play around behind their girlfriend's back. Maybe they're marking time and expect to go looking for someone more driven/smarter later in life.
Somehow I am all of those brains.
But I don't know which category I'm in
Don't worry ; it's a very broad (and therefore inaccurate per person) set of characterisations.
So that explains myself pretty well but not much fits my ex tho she was just nuts
