Good to see more content creators covering sim mode, I think especially at top tier it’s where you get the best fights. RB is too chaotic to get the kind of 1v1 fights you get in sim. I actually ran into you in a sim game on Sunday! We had a great dogfight with your F-16C vs my Mirage 4000
I use my mouse in sim, dont find it to bothersome to use over buying a setup for sim, just put free lock on my mouses side button and use arrow keys mid dogfight, only issue i have is losing the orientation of my plane for a split second
Same here. I use keyboard to maneuver my plane and the mouse to look around and fire weapons. I don't have trim setup and I don't know if I can in top tier as that is usually what I play so I actually find it harder to get guns on a non maneuvering target than in a DF because every imput I do full sends my aircraft. Basically it's hard to make minor adjustments even when tapping the airframe. If we both just full send into a circle then I can just hold the button until my plane starts stalling or until my nose has guns on the target and pop goes the bandit. Or friendly
Regarding the mouse joystick feeling clunky, you can tweak the settings to mitigate that significantly. WingalingDragon I believe has some stuff about that. As for head tracking, I prefer VR personally. More immersion that way.
I would say its not that more expensive, i brougt oculus meta 3 for 550 euros, but mine is 512GB so its on more expesive side, i seen 112GB going for 300€, so it's very close to tobi. @@ВячеславФролов-д7я
You can certainly use a mouse and keyboard and be proficient in sim. If however you want to get a stick (get a VKB-not Logitech) you’re going to need headtracking for the stick to truly upgrade your game experience. I use Track IR and it’s been great. Never used the tobii but I imagine it’s just as useful.
I know it’s a Tobi vid but using the vjoy setup with neural tracker and my webcam also worked (which I had been fighting with for a while). So THANK YOU!!!!!
I was about to get some headtracker but ended up using my iphone with opentrack, if you have iphone 11 or newer with truedepth camera it works without hats and even in pretty dark (monitor light is enough)
@@ВячеславФролов-д7я That sucks. I can tune both the PS3 webcam driver and the Opentrack software so that doesn't happen to me, Idk how you would do that with a real TrackIR though
pro tip for all the console players/pc players with controllers, you can actually make a very proficient air sim setup on a gamepad. my sim controls are actually quite similar to ace combat in a lot of ways (triggers for throttle, buttons for weapons, one thumbstick dedicated to free look and another for pitch/roll) and they are very effective
I currently use a stick for flying and mouse for free look. Great way to not spend too much but still get into sim. Getting a stick was a game changer and i can actually get gun kills now which feels amazing.
For me the trackIR solution has always been working better (of course I'm talking about an infared trackers). There are several ir lights clips that hold to the headset, thus, eliminating a need for a hat, and it is even possible to 3d print them by yourself. The only problem i had is when i had sun rays at the wall behind me so ir camera got confused. Anyway, that's just my experience, if an eye tracker works for somebody else, that's great anyway
See for the money Tobii wants for their eye tracker, a Quest will likely be SO much more for simulator mode, War Thunder in VR is absolutely incredible! A quest 2 currently will set you back about the same amount of money.
Wait, I'm very confused, how does the head tracking work ?? As in do you look to the right in real life and it does so in game.. if that's so, then how do you see your screen ? Do you need VR glasses or something?
@@LifeOfExo your in game view move exponentionally faster than your irl head. So to look right, you only need to move your head a bit right. Confusing at the beginning, but works very well.
----EDITED----- I fixed it. The issue was I needed to toggle the relative controls in War Thunder. It now tracks properly and is pretty good. Not VR headset good, but good. So you can safely ignore the rest of this comment, which I will leave in case anyone else had the same problem. --------------------- Don't buy the Tobii for War Thunder. I watched a few reviews, all sponsored btw, including this one when deciding what to buy. You expect it to work by tracking your head, when it doesn't. It replaces your left, right, up and down head movement for a HOTAS camera input. Basically, when you move your head right the camera pans right, when you move your head back to forward the camera stays to the right the same as a HOTAS. It works extremely well with MSF tracking your head perfectly, but it's trash for war thunder. WT doesn't really track your head movement, it just uses it as input for camera which is not the same.
i use keyboard for flying and mouse for free look. since i fly jets mainly i also use the damping sas mode, depending on situation and plane. and i find it quite effective, many missile kills and even some gun kills from time to time
I play with mouse and keyboard + Oculus Rift, but honestly, just mouse and keyboard is fine, eye tracking is probably the best, because in VR you loose resolution and sound quality
It'd be nice if xbox had better options for vr or even head tracking would be cool. At least my hotas has a 4 position switch that I can use for camera movement.
Tobii mounts to the bottom of the screen and has a limit of how far/close you have to be and how big your screen can be, these are massive cons compared to TrackIR

Facts, I use mouse to view and a $30 flight stick , easy and simple
Same case here, but i also got used to getting orientation from map layout
And also I use only A and D mid dogfight, bit of rudder too
I think mouse and keyboard is easier in mid tier jets. But I have a full set up now and it’s a lot more enjoyable to me
7:27 sums up my sim experience quite well...
